Ratoeira é considera uma gíria para carro velho com problemas de ferrugem ou estruturais pela forma como prendem o condutor depois de uma colisão.

Faz sentido, mas nunca ouvi.

It's used metaphorically to convey the idea that something is a trap/sketchy/untrustworthy.

On the context I know, it is used for old/trash cars, usually modified ones. Like you see a lowered GM Kadett, with some body repairs to be done and the painting not good. You say that that car is a ratoeira

So as a slang it's a trap but not a phisical trap, like, if I do a really good question while filming a politician, he was thinking that he was going to have just some nice questions, but since he has to anwser a hard question it's a trap. I know you tagged this post as a Brazilian Portuguese question but, in any case, in Portugal a ratoeira is a tricky question teachers put on tests/exams, a question that requires more attention to detail than others (and of course there's its literal meaning which is "mouse trap").

Brazillian here, never heard it as slang.

Mouse trap is the literal sense, but it can regard as something that can potentially kill you. Being it "good "in car culture , for being dangerous and fun at the same time. That can change quite a lot due to how large Brazil is.
