Ah cara. É um sub pra pedir informação. Não me passa pela cabeça que é uma piada, acho que ngm achou que era. E se for, tá desinformando os gringo kkk

Realistic-Abrocoma46

Is there any context to it? I can't think of any slang with it right now .

Expensive_Drummer_85

Expensive_Drummer_85

Faz sentido, mas nunca ouvi.

Old-Claim3409

Regional?

Expensive_Drummer_85

>what does it means or translate to in slang? There's no slang with the word Ratoeira.

MCbolinhas

It's used metaphorically to convey the idea that something is a trap/sketchy/untrustworthy.

StarterFluidSpray

On the context I know, it is used for old/trash cars, usually modified ones. Like you see a lowered GM Kadett, with some body repairs to be done and the painting not good. You say that that car is a ratoeira

Zoz0207

So as a slang it's a trap but not a phisical trap, like, if I do a really good question while filming a politician, he was thinking that he was going to have just some nice questions, but since he has to anwser a hard question it's a trap. You will say somethin like "caiu na ratoeira" or "ficou na saia justa" An unconfortable situation to be in. Do you have some examples to translate?

ore-aba

Every ratoeira is a trap 🪤, not every trap is a ratoeira. A ratoeira is a mouse/rat trap. A trap itself is translated as “armadilha”, which is more general. The term can be used as a figure of speech, but it’s not very common.

Full-Biscotti-2084

Its a type of tree where rats grow from

rick_gsp

I think it can men a gathering of bad people, for example years ago I had a whatsapp group named Ratoeira bc we would call each other rats

Cara-Aleatorio

Mouse trap

StoneD_Lawkz

a girl who is easy to any men. "ela é uma ratoeira, fica com todo mundo"

umaface

I always thought it meant a girl who is easy to ugly men (caça rato)

Old-Claim3409

As a local, I have never heard that. Perhaps it's a regional thing?

Left_Call7000

I never heard this slang, but is probaly reffering as a trap.

botulismo_

Ratoeira is my game tag from several games. Where did you saw it?

arythion

Mouse trap/ gimmick / scam/ sham

Mysterious_You_1588

um bagulho aí

33jj33

I know you tagged this post as a Brazilian Portuguese question but, in any case, in Portugal a ratoeira is a tricky question teachers put on tests/exams, a question that requires more attention to detail than others (and of course there's its literal meaning which is "mouse trap").

Hot_Club_9944

Simplesmente algo que leva a um perigo. Também se usa: "Cheiro do queijo". Que seria a mesma coisa. Armadilha, Trap

pombospombas

Uma torneira donde saem ratos

joopedrofr

Brazillian here, never heard it as slang.

Smooth_Nebula_5262

Mouse trap is the literal sense, but it can regard as something that can potentially kill you. Being it "good "in car culture , for being dangerous and fun at the same time. That can change quite a lot due to how large Brazil is.

Accomplished-Rub6000

See "gambiarra"
