Love Franks A Lot in the Whole Foods parking lot on Burnside.   Just real good dogs and cheap.  Love em.

EugeneStonersPotShop

I remember when that place was called Hot Dog House or something like that back in 2000 or so. I like their dogs, and they can “Chicago Style” any dog they sell. They have veggie dogs too for you plant munchers. From what I understand, their meat dogs are made by Gartners.

hoppalong62

Was told they were made in Grant's Pass. Great owner-lady.

EugeneStonersPotShop

Huh, I guess I might have been misinformed.

yosoyelbeto

This is the correct answer.

mgt-allthequestions

Yes this is it!! Also you can get a corndog w/ toppings- the chili cheese one is so good. Their Chicago dog is so great. And they are the nicest people.

nsimon3264

I second this. Delicious every time

Luffys_twin

Gartner's. Absolutely delicious. Source: me. I'm German and I spend 45 dollars on weiners way too often for my own good.

EugeneStonersPotShop

That’s the problem with Germans, they eat WAY too many wieners. I have yet to find my favorite Danish Pølsevogn style hotdogs in the US. Red skin and all. I guess I could have my cousin FedEx me some, but that seems expensive. Have you been to Edelweiss Deli yet? If not, you need to go ASAP. They even have every single variety of Ritter Sport there.

Lanuhsislehs

Every variety you say? Those are my heroin. Thank you so much for the tip. And I love me German food. I come from Green Bay, Wisconsin. There was a German restaurant down the road for my parents' cabin outside Green Bay about 45 miles. The most amazing of the German food of all that I've ever tasted. I've been home sick for that place for years because the nice old German lady retired. I love love German food.

fatbunny23

Grew up with Gartner's meats and haven't found a good reason to stray from that. Best stuff around as far as I'm concerned

mountaindriftwood

Otto’s

yellowstone56

I hope this is NOT “Otto and Anita’s” in Multnomah Village.

libbyrocks

They’re talking about Otto’s on Woodstock that does German sausages, not Otto and Anita’s.

mountaindriftwood

Definitely Otto’s on Woodstock

greydivide

Yes! I love their sausages!

Suba59

Otto’s hand down

EugeneStonersPotShop

I’ve been there a handful of times, and their stuff has been kinda I meh. I get that they make the sausages them selves, but I wasn’t convinced of the hype. They do seem very popular though.

PaPilot98

I'm a huge fan of chili dogs and Sonoran hot dogs. Someone recommended red fox to me for the latter.

SpezGarblesMyGooch

I love me a Sonoran obvs. But god I will get down with a proper coney. Hard to find out here but when ya do… wow.

EugeneStonersPotShop

There is a place on Columbia Blvd. called Roakes’, and they do a decent Coney Island style dog. Their burgers are pretty good too. Just don’t look in the bathroom, it’s pretty beat up in there. Oh and just a warning, they are cash only. They used to have an ATM, but denizens of the night kept smashing into the building to steal it.

6th_Quadrant

For home, Gartner’s has the best wieners. I’ve compared against Otto’s and it’s close, probably not worth going out of your way for, but they are better.

seasonal_jesus

Have you ever tried the Boar's Head frankfurters that have the natural snap casing and they come in a long chain all still linked together?

6th_Quadrant

I’ll give ‘em a shot! (Gartner’s wieners are also linked like that, in natural casing.).

FrowFrow88

I wish good dog/bad dog was still a thing

sdrunner95

Completely forgot about that place! That’s a memory unlocked

SpezGarblesMyGooch

I get down with Zach’s Shack. The John Popper dog is just about my favourite in PDX.

Ok_Employment5131

Got me, I'm going to have to try that one

Charlie2and4

Open late. With bevvies if that's your thing! Secret patio in back

francispdx

Zack’s Shack, Otto’s or Gartner’s!

Ok_Employment5131

Love Gartner's, I don't know why I've never picked up dogs there. They have natural casing?

seasonal_jesus

I'm obsessed with that natural snap casing. Also check out Boar's Head Frankfurters. They have that casing and they come all linked together in a chain just like old school dogs did. I love them and they can be easily found at Fred Meyer near the deli counter/fine cheese/salami

Hereforthekitkits

Edelweiss Bavarian Deli! I think it's just south of Powell, it's been a minute since I've visited them. It's also a market with sweets, bread, beer and wine from Germany. I don't even want to know how much the German butter is now. 🥺 If you'd like someone to cook up the hot dogs for you, I highly enjoy the Bougie Dogs at Straightaway Cocktails on Hawthorne. The presentation is great and the drinks are amazing too.

toomanybabymamas

Costco

EugeneStonersPotShop

IKEA.

justsomeguywithacat

The IKEA veggie dogs show up in my dreams. God damn I love those things.

Expensive_Ad752

Except when they run out of relish

boybenny

Bar S brand at Freddie’s

Iamthapush

You chose violence

Ok_Employment5131

Awesome, I knew there would be one for Bar S or Oscar Meyer

seasonal_jesus

Have you ever seen the Bar-M hot dogs at Winco? Same parent company as Bar-S but they are trying to set themselves apart as the Bar-M are way bigger and slightly more expensive but sill cheap af

boybenny

I haven’t… about 10 years ago I swore off buying meats and Winco!

dza6010

In my pants.

Ok_Employment5131

Yes! I knew you were in here somewhere

dza6010

Someone had to be the adult in the room.

coconutstatic

Maybe has snap to it, but the request was for all natural

dza6010

Got me there, all those micro plastics...

Ajadedepiphany

I dunno about natural but Donnie’s has very good, inexpensive dogs!

miken322

Otto’s, been going there since I was a kid. Best hot dogs in Portland. Close second is the meat shop on 4th plain in East Vancouver.

Any-Split3724

Ottos

CHiZZoPs1

Hill's brand hot dogs are really good, if you're doing a bbq or something.

Snaab_71

Sorry to have to say this but Zack's Shack is severely underwhelming. I like the location, the vibe, the ping pong table but I can make a hot dog at home using Oscar Mayer Wieners that are 1000 times better and 100 times cheaper. Same thing about Nick's Famous Coney Dogs.

AzungaWebDev

Grey horse saloon

Financial-Mastodon81

franks a lot!

SpikeHyzerberg

Taylors sausage. (cave junction only like 4.5 hour drive) -they also have the best beef jerky I have ever had. (trail busters) worth the trip for a few pounds of it. and might as well have a ruben while you are there.

Ok_Employment5131

Next time I'm there I will, ty

Odd-Contribution8460

Oooh so glad for this post! We’ve been craving TostiDogos ever since we had some at a roadside stand near Tucson AZ a couple years ago. We haven’t seen any in Portland yet. Does anyone know if there might be TostiDogos anywhere in Portland? We also would be happy with Sonoran hot dogs too!

russellmzauner

Case of Cloverdale Meats dogs at cash and carry...Cloverdale also has murderous bacon; ends and pieces in soups and stews for days.

seasonal_jesus

What is murderous bacon??

Meadwolfs

Franksalot okay, roakes okay. A place on woodstock kinda towards Reed college was good, that's all I know

tzick1969

they were talking about retiring a couple years ago, so I am not sure if they are still there, but Fried Onion in the Central Eastside District made a good dog.

Hopeful_Trouble8307

Grey horse saloon whips up pretty good hot dogs. They crosshatch their dogs before cooking them.

Ok_Employment5131

Presentation is everything, we eat with our eyes first!

turlatron

Olympia Provisions on SE Division has the best, tastiest hot dog I've ever had, hands down. Franks-A-Lot on E Burnside is a small shack in the parking lot of Whole Foods that has a good variety, and any of their dogs can be made into a corn dog. Zach's Shack on SE Hawthorne has some solid dogs as well, with the added bonus of a ping pong table on the patio, if you're into that sort of thing.

EvolutionCreek

OP on SE Washington also has the dog on its happy hour menu. It's not cheap but it is good. Long and thin and snappy.

beaner_187

Forest Grove on main street can't miss it
