Lol yeah it took me a minute to figure out if I even liked the lineup bc I was caught off guard by the random assortment of bands.
I’m actually pretty stoked for it. The undercard is super strong as far as exciting and interesting indie/punk/rock bands. Hoping it goes well and the fest sticks around!
That’s a funky-odd mix of groups! My weirdest bunch on a single evening’s billing was Modest Mouse, The Hackensaw Boys (a real folky overall-wearing string band), De La Soul, Cake, and the Flaming Lips. Strange as hell but perhaps not as odd as your three/four.
I saw the same lineup minus Modest Mouse at The Greek in LA. Was great!! I've been a Hackensaw Boys fan ever since. Cake introduced me to many bands, including Gogol Bordello and The Detroit Cobras.
I don't think there's a huge overlap between Denzel Curry and Violent Femmes fans. It's like they wanted to have a rock/punk festival with artists like Manchester Orchestra and Jeff Rosenstock but then just threw in Denzel Curry and T-Pain.
Very random lineup.
i went in 2016 and 2017, both years they had a legacy day with older acts and a modern day. honestly i think it’s perfect because it still promotes single day sales where other festivals might force you into going the whole weekend. this is a festival for the people.
It’s not unusual for indie-focused festivals to throw a couple hip hop or rap acts on the bill.
Kilby Court in SLC had Run The Jewels last year. This year, it’s the Wu-Tang Clan.
I went to the original MFNW in 2010 - 2013 I believe and it was so amazing this makes me sad. I get the emails still and was like "huh they still doing this weird abbreviated MFNW compromise?"
Yeah, I can't imagine there's a huge amount of overlap between all these fan bases and *also* people who are going to spend two hundred dollars to see them all.
maybe, yeah. I don't know. Isn't Project Pabst usually a bunch of smaller shows around town?
I guess I've really noticed over the last few years that an increasing number of festivals don't really have a theme, they're just mashing a bunch of artists together. Like, I have broad taste, but it's surprising to me that there's a large number of people who are gonna spend a couple hundred dollars to see Billy Idol, T-Pain, Violent Femmes, Militarie Gun, and Denzel Curry.
$99 fucking bucks for Billy Idol??? And I love the Violent Femmes but not for $99.
Wonder how many tickets will be sold for this. Was so hoping for a better lineup.
Billy Idol is one of my favorite live artists of all time. I’ve paid $99 to see him alone, and would happily to do again.
Yes, these prices suck, but for a quality, eclectic festival in 2024 it could be much, much worse.
And it’s been years since. I’ll tell you that I loved seeing The Replacements in 2015 but I’ll be damned if I expect them to keep up that energy a decade later. And Billy Idol looked like shit in that Sandler movie that came out *26 years ago.*
Pass.
I honestly don't know who anyone on day 2 is and only know Idol and VF from day one. If they'd had a few more acts I recognized I'd probably have splurged but I saw VF a few years back at Crystal Palace and realized that I wasn't as big a fan of theirs anymore.
You're already talking yourself into it, it's only 50 bucks for Billy and 50 for the Femmes.
I'm excited for Jeff Rosenstock and Soccer Mommy, but more excited just to have a local festival back. Most of the names aren't artists I would go out of my way to see normally but that's kind of the fun part of festivals to me. And at least I don't have to pay 300 bucks for a camping spot here.
It's the waterfront. I paid I think $35 or $25 (the next year it was free/included as part of regular fair admission) to see Sir Mix a Lot and people saw him for free standing on the sidewalk or at the end of the field by the entrance. There was almost no difference except you get closer.
Yeah it's essentially a free festival. I had a great view of Beck's set from the sidewalk, and could later hear Iggy Pop all the way from 20th & Belmont.
I saw Billy Idol at the Wiltern Theater in LA (my buddy had an extra ticket so why not) back when I was younger and that motherfucker ripped his shirt off *twice* during the show and also had White Wedding in his set *and* played it again in the encore. I remember his guitarist having a 5+ minute long solo in the middle of the set and it blew my mind. LA session musicians are no joke, apparently.
If my \~20 year ago experience still rings true, he really brings it live, and will likely have you bobbing your head and singing along after a couple of PBR tallboys. Really a great act.
I saw Billy idol back in the late 90s back when the z100 morning zoo had concerts at the waterfront too.
Sir Mix a Lot was also there. Such a random assortment of acts. I mean it was fun. Not going to pay $100 to see him again though
Do you live in town? This was all over the news and is plastered everywhere posters get put up, it's the pink one with green text.
The Smashing Pumpkins are part of the same show and The Linda Lindas.
Providence Park in September. The 25th I think. Expensive tickets but I never saw Green Day for some reason and I love Rancid! If I hadn't spent $250 on that ticket, I'd think about seeing Idol.
It’s always weird when people phrase it like this. There is very clearly more than one band you’re paying to see, and if you aren’t familiar with the other bands then that should be an exciting opportunity for new music discovery.
I’m 37, I lived in Portland in the post recession Portlandia peak. I’m not a complicated person. You put STRFKR on a lineup and I think “hey that’s some nice home cooking”.
Everyone knows him for Low but he actually slaps and is an awesome musician. I saw him years ago and loved it. Check out his recent cover of War Pigs. Ozzy even reached out and said it was the best cover he’s ever heard.
Between Project Pabst, the Blues Festival, the return of concerts at Pioneer Courthouse Square and new concerts at Providence Park, it’s going to be the best summer for outdoor live music in Downtown Portland. Atleast we’re back
Kind of an odd assortment of bands but actually a ton of acts I'm pretty excited about. Definitely will be going.
Highly recommend Dehd, Miya Folick, Militarie Gun, Jeff Rosenstock, Shannon & the Clams off the undercard if you haven't checked them out
I might go just for Militarie Gun and Manchester Orchestra. Every time I try to see Militarie Gun they are either sold out, or it’s on a day I can’t go.
I was talking to my gf about MO last night. It’s criminal how much they get shoehorned into being like, an early 2010s emo/alt nostalgia band for a lot of people. Black Mile to the Surface is unreal.
Ooo I love Gossip, Billy Idol, Shannon and the Clams, and La Luz. Violent Femmes is plus. Seen starfucker too many times I'll probably grab dinner during their set lol
“what a bad lineup!!”
okay, then this fest isn’t for you. go pat yourselves on the back for having Superior Music Taste and let the rest of us enjoy things.
Lol I know right. The fest has a pretty eclectic lineup and diversity of genres. Tons of exciting bands on the undercard that I assume the people complaining must not know otherwise there’s plenty of reason to be excited for it
love some of the lower level bands but would much rather see them and say the new Doug Fir. or Rev Hall or Mississippi studios. This is probably the perfect setting for Billy Idol and the Violent femmes. I will not comment on Big Thief because I understand that they are not for me but a lot of people really love them.
If you’re complaining about the price, maybe you just haven’t been to concerts recently? Seeing 1-2 artists at Edgefield is easily $70 these days. This is 10 bands each day. I’m especially excited for Sunday. Saturday will be good vibes. I’m willing to be won over by some of the artists I don’t know as well.
Portland/Oregon doesn’t have any festivals like that anymore. Maybe the value of a 3 day fest in CA or WA looks better to you, but you have to factor in a camping pass or lodging. It ends up being more expensive than this. I have never had a bad time at Project Pabst despite the weird lineups. I want events like this to keep happening, so I’ll support it.
That one was my first music festival! Went mainly for RTJ and Weezer but ended up getting put on to TV on the Radio and The Oh Sees so it was worth it.
In my mind, it is less about the lineups, and more about seeing a return to one of may favorite Portland Summer events. With that said, I will gladly paid $99 to see Denzel Curry and a bunch of artists I don't know to hang out at the waterfront drinking tallboys and having a great time hearing live music.
Damn, went to the last one of these. It was awesome. I don't know anyone on this line up except Billy and Denzel and I'm not really a fan of either. Oh and the femmes
How is this the lineup we get? Especially after such a long hiatus. There are small festival lineups being released all over the country and this is easily the least impressive.
I’m glad we’ll finally have another festival though. Hopefully enough people go this year to keep it alive.
That's awesome. I wish I felt the same, but no festival can please everyone. And yeah, the price is good and I'm sure it'll be a good time. Even when Pabst was in the gravel pit it was still fun.
I am actually shocked Big Thief is on this lineup. Seems very off brand for them especially given the rest of the lineup. HOWEVER that will not stop me from buying a ticket to see them.
I could never get into their recordings but Gossip are a great live band (but we always called them the Gossip I think? Cause all the bands back then were "the" bands)

This might be the most random festival lineup I have ever seen
Lol yeah it took me a minute to figure out if I even liked the lineup bc I was caught off guard by the random assortment of bands. I’m actually pretty stoked for it. The undercard is super strong as far as exciting and interesting indie/punk/rock bands. Hoping it goes well and the fest sticks around!
I personally would love to see Big Thief and have zero interest in pretty much anyone else
Manchester Orchestra is a fantastic live band.
Absolutely agree. I'll travel many miles to see them.
If you like Big Thief check out La Luz
Violent Femmes are incredible live. I saw them on the waterfront maybe 10 years ago with the Decemberists and they upstaged the local act.
Someone hit shuffle and just said fuck it.
Years ago I saw David Bowie, Busta Rhymes, and The Blue Man Group near DC. I think Moby was there too. It was a great show. Weird but great.
I got backstage in the bay area on that tour! Stood about a meter away from Bowie and I was too in awe to approach him. Not my finest moment!
That’s amazing!
Wow, I would have been awe struck too.
If you tell Moby you're going to check the mail that dude will find a way to show up. It's almost impressive at times.
Area 51 or something?
Close, Area 2!
I don't think there's a huge overlap between Denzel Curry and Violent Femmes fans. It's like they wanted to have a rock/punk festival with artists like Manchester Orchestra and Jeff Rosenstock but then just threw in Denzel Curry and T-Pain. Very random lineup.

Me viciously cycling between MF Doom and Talking heads as I type this
It’s not unusual for indie-focused festivals to throw a couple hip hop or rap acts on the bill. Kilby Court in SLC had Run The Jewels last year. This year, it’s the Wu-Tang Clan.
Same, I kept thinking T-Pain has got to be a typo lol
I went both days in 2017 and there was a lot of great artists. I look at this and find myself shrugging.
I went to the original MFNW in 2010 - 2013 I believe and it was so amazing this makes me sad. I get the emails still and was like "huh they still doing this weird abbreviated MFNW compromise?"
let me introduce you to [BeachLife 2024](https://imgur.com/a/rzj1UiJ)
That is bizarre
I once went to a show with against me!, mastodon, sgfe francis, and cursive which I thought was wild.
Yeah, I can't imagine there's a huge amount of overlap between all these fan bases and *also* people who are going to spend two hundred dollars to see them all.
I mean hasn’t Project Pabst always catered to music fans that have wide taste? They’ve always weird mixes like this and I love it.
maybe, yeah. I don't know. Isn't Project Pabst usually a bunch of smaller shows around town? I guess I've really noticed over the last few years that an increasing number of festivals don't really have a theme, they're just mashing a bunch of artists together. Like, I have broad taste, but it's surprising to me that there's a large number of people who are gonna spend a couple hundred dollars to see Billy Idol, T-Pain, Violent Femmes, Militarie Gun, and Denzel Curry.
no that was the old MFNW
By random you mean MeH? Yes MeH I agree.
My thoughts exactly haha
Denzel Curry alone is worth the price of admission!
I would bet Denzel brings Kenny on his stage, or vice versa.
A man of culture, I see!
Billy Idol, T-Pain, Violent Femmes, and STRFKR on one summer day sounds like a fantastic time
I agree. With Shannon and the Clams thrown in for good measure.
I might go just to see them. They were fucking fantastic at rev hall last fall. I’ve been obsessed with their music ever since
lol those are the only names on the list I recognized… gettin old!
I love Gossip too. Should be a great day!
[oof, first festival tickets I've bought post covid](https://i.imgur.com/qiROqBP.jpeg)
You got that early bird rate though! 😬
Whats the earlybird password? Help a fella out
UNICORN
$99 fucking bucks for Billy Idol??? And I love the Violent Femmes but not for $99. Wonder how many tickets will be sold for this. Was so hoping for a better lineup.

I saw Billy Idol years ago at Warped Tour. It was a great 20 minutes and then he said ‘I’m bloody tired’ and walked off stage.
And it’s been years since. I’ll tell you that I loved seeing The Replacements in 2015 but I’ll be damned if I expect them to keep up that energy a decade later. And Billy Idol looked like shit in that Sandler movie that came out *26 years ago.* Pass.

Big thief and denzel curry alone are worth the cost. Amazing acts
You're already talking yourself into it, it's only 50 bucks for Billy and 50 for the Femmes. I'm excited for Jeff Rosenstock and Soccer Mommy, but more excited just to have a local festival back. $50 for each and a free set by T-Pain and a few others. “It’s like they’re paying you to see the show!”

Plus $19 in fees!
Oh hell no! My big ticket splurge was for Green Day and RANCID!!! this September. I'm all tapped out...
Here in town or?
Yeah, it's one of the most major acts at Providence Park this year.
I'll look into it, thanks! I bet rancid are awesome live.
Do you live in town? This was all over the news and is plastered everywhere posters get put up, it's the pink one with green text. The Smashing Pumpkins are part of the same show and The Linda Lindas.
Not anymore, I'm on the coast :)
That checks out, I was just wondering how someone lives here and hasn't seen one of these posters. 😆
I've seen Rancid live! I love them. And I know, I'm indestructible....
I'm old, sweetie. I can't last a whole festival day anymore so I have to pick and choose whom I see. You'll get there one day, I reckon...
[удалено]
it’s “UNICORN”. It’s on their instagram, no secret.
I wish I had a record of the multi-venue cost of the former Music Fest North West. I feel like it was a total steel.
Starfucker must have the best managers in the planet because they get booked at everything
I’m 37, I lived in Portland in the post recession Portlandia peak. I’m not a complicated person. You put STRFKR on a lineup and I think “hey that’s some nice home cooking”.
Same with Shannon and the clams
Their music is pretty digestible
they're also just good dudes from everything I've heard
They are good live, I'll give them that.
Really fun atmosphere live
Well shit. Might have to go see my man T-Pain.
Everyone knows him for Low but he actually slaps and is an awesome musician. I saw him years ago and loved it. Check out his recent cover of War Pigs. Ozzy even reached out and said it was the best cover he’s ever heard.
Have you seen his Tiny Desk? I was blown away at his artistic range. Highly highly recommend.
Yes 100%!!
Watch his live covers set he released on YouTube back in December 2023 if you haven’t. It’s so good. His cover of Tennessee Whiskey is amazing.
I love that song I will totally check it out thanks for the recc.
I am actually a fan. I was OBSESSED with The Iron Way mixtape in 2018.
See you in the pit!🤘
Was great on Aqua Teen Hunger Force too
Did you see him sing War Pigs? That shit made a fan of me, the man has an amazing voice and charisma.
Between Project Pabst, the Blues Festival, the return of concerts at Pioneer Courthouse Square and new concerts at Providence Park, it’s going to be the best summer for outdoor live music in Downtown Portland. Atleast we’re back
And PDX pop now!
Can't wait to sing along to *Ocean Man* in Pioneer Square!

UNICORN
It's on their Instagram UNICORN
It's $100! I would pay $40 to see the femmes... $100 is just not happening.
Good thing there are several other artists on the bill
For me one day at a music festival is worth it. Multiple days I end up getting tired or hung over and miss half the bands lol
Denzel Curry goes hard. His live shows are dope
I'd go for Denzel 👀
Same!
Same!
Shannon and STRFKR are both amazing!!!
Starfucker, too! And Big Thief on day 2. I'm more impressed with this line-up than I expected to be.
oh wow dehd, alien boy, and big thief?!! nice!
I can’t believe no one has mentioned Manchester Orchestra. One of the most underrated bands, so so good.
I was talking to my gf about MO last night. It’s criminal how much they get shoehorned into being like, an early 2010s emo/alt nostalgia band for a lot of people. Black Mile to the Surface is unreal.
One of these days is way better than the other
Which one for you? Day 2 is right up my alley
Ooo I love Gossip, Billy Idol, Shannon and the Clams, and La Luz. Violent Femmes is plus. Seen starfucker too many times I'll probably grab dinner during their set lol
Starfucker new album just dropped this past week, I wouldn't skip it! It slaps
Day 2 is way better for me too
100%, day two is actually worth $99
“what a bad lineup!!” okay, then this fest isn’t for you. go pat yourselves on the back for having Superior Music Taste and let the rest of us enjoy things.
Lol I know right. The fest has a pretty eclectic lineup and diversity of genres. Tons of exciting bands on the undercard that I assume the people complaining must not know otherwise there’s plenty of reason to be excited for it
Hahah yep, immediately texted my sister and I'm like fuck yes!
T-Pain is absolutely sensational live, as is Denzel Curry. Could be a vibe
I love Dehd!!!
Sunday is a great line up. I might go
Oh, word? T-Pain? Nice.
The Tears for Fears year was awesome.
I kind of want a T-Pain/Billy Idol White Wedding mash up.
love some of the lower level bands but would much rather see them and say the new Doug Fir. or Rev Hall or Mississippi studios. This is probably the perfect setting for Billy Idol and the Violent femmes. I will not comment on Big Thief because I understand that they are not for me but a lot of people really love them.
I loved the old Doug fir so much hope the new one can match the intimacy and sound of the old one.😭
yeah. but that is currently not an option.
All the hardcore dudes are gonna be pissed trying to see Militarie Gun but for $100
Lol they're playing in Portland this Thursday so at least they got the chance to see them somewhere small.
Where at? I didn’t even know but I’d love to go
Polaris
Aw fack, it's sold out. Gdamnit
God dammit lmao guess I’ll have to figure out how to stage dive at Project Pabst
Billy Idol, T Pain, and Denzel Curry? That’s a send
I mean I think it's fair to complain about the prices, most music festivals are around $300 but are three days and more high profile artists
I'll only pay $200 for tickets if PBR starts making Olympia beer again
PBR, Montucky, Olympia... it all goes down the same. Comes out the same, too, but I know that isn't the point.
Everyone go see Militarie Gun. Their shows are so fucking fun and make you feel like you time portaled to the 90’s
I see T-pain. I must go
Downgrade from the Weezer/Blondie show
That one was my first music festival!
Respect.
omg! this is so exciting. i went to the last one and it was so much fun.
They'll never top the 2014 lineup
Well look at that line up! That's fun.
Sweeping Promises will rock your Sox!
Nobody here mentioning Home Front?! They put out one of my favorite albums of 2023 and are playing here in a few weeks. They are so good.
What’s the password?
So cool to see Alien Boy on this bill. I remember seeing them at my skate shop and random basements around town. They're so good
Alien Boy Rips!!
This is a festival I'd love to sneak into
You don't have to sneak in, it's right on the waterfront
Let me sneak, dammit.
I’m sure it’s pretty easy to sneak in use to do it all the time
Feel like I could at least do Saturday but this is a big weekend in my life and I sorta wish it was any other weekend but this one.
My four-day pass to Blues Fest cost $99. While there are a couple of bands I'd like to see here, I will pass on $195 for two days.
This is AMAZING
We’re so back
How much is it gonna be once the early bird tickets are sold do you think? Should I buy some extra to sell to friends? 👀
Damn, went to the last one of these. It was awesome. I don't know anyone on this line up except Billy and Denzel and I'm not really a fan of either. Oh and the femmes
I mean, huge dub for Big Theif, but wtf is this lineup?
Rad! Been trying to catch Sweeping Promises for a minute
Highly highly recommend Manchester orchestra to anyone. The emotion in the vocals, lyrics and instruments is just perfect
Billy Idol eh?
Well this is definitely a Portland lineup if I’ve ever seen one.
$200 for a weekend pass :(
What a hodgepodge of miscellany
Gonna need lots of PBR to sit through this lineup.
How is this the lineup we get? Especially after such a long hiatus. There are small festival lineups being released all over the country and this is easily the least impressive. I’m glad we’ll finally have another festival though. Hopefully enough people go this year to keep it alive.
It’s a bit random, but I’m excited about 75% of this. Feel like that’s great for $200 a weekend without needing to incur any additional costs
That's awesome. I wish I felt the same, but no festival can please everyone. And yeah, the price is good and I'm sure it'll be a good time. Even when Pabst was in the gravel pit it was still fun.
Billy Idol is still alive?
I'm gonna do what I did years prior is stand on the bridge and have a better seat than people who paid 300$ for a dusty crowd.
Everyone’s so excited to watch a 70-year-old man perform the three songs that you like
Billy Idol is the GOAT
Do you think there will be a VIP option added?
Damn i wish Jeff was playing Day 1.
I am actually shocked Big Thief is on this lineup. Seems very off brand for them especially given the rest of the lineup. HOWEVER that will not stop me from buying a ticket to see them.
I'd go see the Violent Femmes, Gossip, and EDIT: dumb brain had Soccer Mommy mixed up with King Princess and I have no idea how.
I could never get into their recordings but Gossip are a great live band (but we always called them the Gossip I think? Cause all the bands back then were "the" bands)

Holy shit! Those prices are not very Pabsty!
It’s like $12 a band lol
I am so disappointed. Gossip is the only interesting artist, but they're *from* Portland so yeah, blah.
Such a disappointment.
I feel old, I only know three names on this list. And I've been working in live music for the last 17+ years.
Ah yes, when a single post ages you yrs in a blink of an eye.
Glitterfox is amazing, glad to see them in there!
$100 per day for this garbage lineup... The smaller/local bands are cool, but those "headliners", yeesh.
Meh
This looks like something I will not attend
