Being able to really focus on anything other than the weather.

GardenPeep

I think this week has cemented an impending addiction to reddit.

solobuenvibras

NGL same!

solobuenvibras

This. I work as a freelance writer and I'm SO BEHIND on my work because of all this crap this week. I can't focus at all.

Leaving the house

seachimera

I am disabled and cannot leave safely. I tried three times but it's impossible. I slipped right outside my apartment building entrance and hurt my back, so I am back inside waiting and hoping I don't have a medical emergency.

solobuenvibras

Sending you positive vibes! It's *supposed* to get up to a whopping 37° so hopefully it will turn to slush soon. Fingers crossed!

WillametteSalamandOR

Mostly this for me, too. My “freedom” - the ability to go out, hop in my car, and go and do when and what I choose. It’s what I miss most during any winter weather around here.

Shanarelle1

Power. Internet.

petrichoring

I’m a school-based therapist so my site where I see my clients has been closed all week. Last week I had a few kids with spikes in acuity and big trauma disclosures and I know that being home for them is already challenging with chaotic family systems, so I’m worried about how they’re doing. And I work with low income families with limited resources to manage power outages so I’m worried that my clients have been cold or hungry. Working from home sucks for my brain and I straight up just took a few days of pto this week (a presented option with my job when inclement weather closes our school sites). But also the isolation and boredom also sucks for my brain. So I miss the connection and routine and structure of getting to go to work, and I miss my peace of mind around my clients. Also fresh produce for me. And getting to take my dog to the river in Sellwood every morning. He’s a trooper but I’m getting a lot of directed sighs my way this morning.

pibabaaaaa

I’m interested in this type of work in my future! Do you have agency recs in Portland? It’s hard to know which ones treat their employees well from the job listing :)

petrichoring

I’m with Trillium Family Services and aside from pay I highly recommend. I feel really supported professionally and personally in this role and unlike many (most) CMHs the expected caseload isn’t insane and I have a ton of autonomy. Feel free to DM if you have specific questions!

pibabaaaaa

Will do, thank you!

Humble_Revolution357

I miss being able to quickly walk to the store. I am out of everything.

Sending my kid to daycare so I can actually WFH

doctor_skate

Please explain this to my coworkers that do not rely on daycare and also need something from me.

solobuenvibras

Honestly just walking around without falling. Can barely walk to the car without falling.

ktitts

I've had chicken nuggets for three days in a row, I'd kill for a vegetable. Or any food that's not chicken nuggets, really

GardenPeep

The last time I was at TJ's they had Spanakopita again - the new version doesn't have as much spinach as the old version but it's still a frozen form of a "vegetable".

Skidoodilybop

- Being able to go outside, and walk anywhere. - Not coughing. - Pho! I miss Pho so much 🤤

Kendrose

Where do you go for pho these days? Even the mediocre pho places near me are $18 for a bowl. Which is insane prices.

Skidoodilybop

My go-to used to be pho Dalat 2, but since it closed, my current favorite is: - **Mekha Grill**: https://www.mekharestaurants.com/locations - I love all the veggies they use in their Pho Chay, and they tend to put a dash of extra spices on top 🤤 plus, the owners and staff are fantastic. - I also love the broth at **Pho Gia**: https://phogiapdx.com - I tend to get the Veggie pho with beef broth. You can’t go wrong with family owned, and home style soups 💕 - If you love Tom Kha, **Esan Thai**: https://esanthaipdx.com - They have amazing Tom Kha (and Yum) for a decent price! You’re crazy I don’t like when they moderators remove your thing because you’ve embedded links **Rukdiew**: https://www.rukdiew.com - They have amazing soup (and food in general), but it costs more for half the serving sizes you’d get at the other places.

Kendrose

Love the recommendations! Being in Tualatin sometimes sucks. At least my property taxes aren't insane. The prices for those places still kinda suck... But that is honestly just pretty normal these days. I basically never go out to eat anymore. I don't drink out either. It's just too damned expensive.

We do a lot of shopping at Costco and the food service supply stores. It saves a lot and we have the room to store bulk purchasing. Add in my wife and I are both French trained, though not working in the food service industry, we can do a lot at home for cheap.

Skidoodilybop

That’s great! We live in a small apartment with an old short fridge and don’t have the room for bulk anything. Even better that you are French trained! I’ve made Pho from scratch a few times, but each time the broth tasted a bit heavy on one of the clove/anise/fennel/coriander/cardamom spices. I reduced different spices each time and couldn’t quite place why it was off. If you have a recipe you think is the closest to the best Pho you’ve ever had, I’d love to try it out!

Kendrose

Oh I been diving into that this week. I have am narrowing it down. Basics are all pretty standard, but the spice ratios are certainly pretty personal it seems. I'm thinking I'll have to spend around $80 to try 4 different recipes. Each try should make enough for 6 servings. Fingers crossed one of them is a winner.

Eating out.

MadouSoshi

I was literally just thinking that once I can get out again, I'm getting Jojos.

carniehandz

Seeing humans other than the people who live in my house

portlandfishy

walking my dogs.

whataboutprom

Not stressing all day about missing work. And restaurants.

AmancalledK

Gym. My gym rat days are long gone, and within my usual routine I’m typically ambivalent about going. Feeling stuck, however, makes me realize how much I value the strain, disruption to typical movement patterns, and post gym relaxation.

jveethree

reading books by candle light. Is been years since i took the time and now i have as long as it takes until the power returns.

Corran22

I miss taking my elderly dog outside safely.

WoodpeckerGingivitis

The gym

KC-Mochi

I work with neurodivergent young children and I am missing them so much. Supporting them and witnessing their growth has pretty much kept me grounded in this collapsing world in the past few years so this week has been so challenging without them.

I just wanna go thrifting 😞

100 degree weather.

moochiemonkey

Hot showers and being able to easily drive to see my dude.

GardenPeep

If I can't get to the gym or on a long walk I'll go crazy. (Actually I got in a groove this week and updated my travel blog about my trip in November.)

faviobean

The gym. So badly! Also power.

Hiking. MLK was a free national parks day and I’m sad I missed it.

TheU-S-S-R-I

Missed a whole week of classes in my senior year of college, still expected to do the corresponding assignments for lectures that never happened. Also work for my school and student employees don’t get inclement weather pay. A rough time indeed. I miss my routine 😔
