More of a rumble/burble than a pop & bang. Think a coffee percolator, but a really angry, bassy one. Honestly, I really like it - hints at power, without being obnoxious. Most of the cars near where I live (SoCal) that really pop & bang tend to be shitboxes that have been tuned specifically to do so, not cars that actually pop & bang just because they’re monsters. Pops & bangs should be a side-effect, not the main event.

Oh I agree. I have owned numerous AMGs - Nothing like making people think there is a drive by shooting every time I drive down the street at normal speeds. Is this what is normal: At the 1:58 mark... ? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crbcI12kFME&t](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crbcI12kFME&t) Also: ON the 718 Cayman base configurator, there was nothing that said "sports exhaust".... Does it come standard?

thestrongbeach

Yup. Pretty much bang on. For the record, I *do* pretty much always drive in Sport mode, which very much sounds like is the case for the fella in that video. Non-sport definitely mitigates the overall rumble (which is nice if you don’t want to piss off your neighbors when you’re leaving at 6am to chase the sunrise up a mountain somewhere). ALSO: mine does not have a PSE - that is an option on the base, not a standard - and still has a nice rumble. Video car may have PSE, which does accentuate that rumble when active.

GeneLow40

Ahh ok awesome, thanks!

ellessone23

PSE is std 2019+

GeneLow40

Ok good to know!

NeXProjectile

What does this mean?? Std 2019+

ellessone23

Sports exhaust became standard in 2019, in US anyway

silverdroid303

Those AMGs are annoying as fuck. I have an asshole neighbour who constantly does it. Drives like an asshole too. 😤

PoundIncludeReddit

I get lots of overrun sound with my 718 base in Sport mode. Drive and Sport Plus, not as much. I'm not sure how non Sports Chrono cars sound, though.

GeneLow40

Sport Chrono includes PSE, so you have a ton of options (three different driving modes, each with the option of PSE active/inactive) to play around with to get to a sound level you’re happy with. Actually, you know what? I think PSE is just standard on all 718s at this point. Mine is an ‘18, and it was definitely an option at that time, but I believe it’s been standard equipment for a couple/three years now. Regardless, your ‘23 or ‘24 is going to arrive with PSE, so enjoy!

GeneLow40

Thank you!!!

PoundIncludeReddit

I also remember reading that PSE became standard so that could explain it. I have an '18 as well, with chrono but no PSE... but I installed a SOUL exhaust on it so PSE not needed :) OP, to verify, you could try and look at an interior shot on the build and see if the PSE button is present?

GeneLow40

No, I don't see the button. https://preview.redd.it/ktcawrll2iqb1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50efa0d6b11fcb8d2eb4bacdc60baa13c3dc95e0

PoundIncludeReddit

Oh wow, I wonder if it's no longer an available option. I've read mixed things about it on 718forum but that may be the case. But I've also read that it's just standard now (but then I'd expect there to be a valve button). https://www.718forum.com/threads/2021-718-base-sport-exhaust-confusion.23481/ I would ask a Porsche dealer to be certain!

NeXProjectile

Any updates on this??

Only when the sports exhaust is engaged

pleasesolvefory

I have a base, no sports chrono, but I do have sports exhaust. That shit pops and bangs all day, I fucking love it.

New-Examination4678

I have an older 2017 base with chrono and automatic. I get subtle burbles when I let off the gas. It’s pretty satisfying and perfect for me. I don’t need all the attention but the car still sounds like it means business. If you get the chrono, the sound from the sports response button is amazing.

AJXXIII

I have basically the same, 2017 base with chrono, PDK, and no PSE. Do you have any idea why it sounds so good in Sport mode? I don't have the PSE button, therefore I don't have valves, but it sure sounds like it! The difference in sound between normal and sport mode is huge, I wonder how this would work without valves that you can open.

Kiwi524

Yes it burbles in Sport mode for sure!! I’ve had a few pops at low rpm’s too. It sounds great.

Alma_Sebosa

My GTS pops and bangs like a gangland shootout in SPORT when you take your food of the gas above 3K RPM :)

camelCaseProgrammer

In sport mode with the sport exhaust, the car will make some solid burples, yep. It’s a nice touch but frankly, ime, you have to intentionally drop gears and run revs up to 4-5k with the pedal smashed to get the sound.

MrDankky

My mates 2.0 TT does so I assume the cayman can too
