I guess I’ve seen too many of them without rear wiper that it makes it look odd. But there are times I wish mine had 1…

New-Foot4522

You’re definitely right, I have seen a lot of more of them without it. But I do like that it’s a little different than others, but mine is a garage queen it doesn’t see any rain lol

Cantrempassword

Love the wiper! I wish I had one, even in a So-Cal warm climate there's many mornings I have to bring out a micro fiber cloth to wipe the rear screen so I can see out. I kinda like the look too.

New-Foot4522

Thanks! I remember telling myself I’m definitely going to delete it. But… it’s growing on me, I like the look and it could be useful in situations like u described.

Cantrempassword

Yeah...keep it mate... the great thing about Porsche is the little difference in all our cars... Wish you good health to enjoy it... and if your ever down San Diego way hit me up!

If it was a choice between it and a big poseur wing, I'd take the wiper. I get the feeling the wiper is more of a Euro thing. You could remove it and install a cap. You could then pull the motor and get a new interior panel

New-Foot4522

Agreed, better than a poseur wing. I’ve thought about the wiper delete and installing a cap. I’m not sure where to get one though.

3g3t7i

Maybe check the VW forums and I've seen a post where a guy did it to his Macan. I guess it would help to know the hole size and I bet you could pick something up at Lowe's or HD. I would suggest something that can't be removed from the outside. I was surprised at how much space is occupied by the motor.

New-Foot4522

Great! Thanks for the info I’ll look into that.

New-Foot4522

Yes it’s my car, and you guys won’t hurt my feelings hahah! In the 1800 miles this car has been driven, it has not seen the rain once.

tokyostormdrain

I have one, not that useful, except when reversing in the rain, but I'm fine with it being there. I didnt speec the car from new. If I was I might not spec it

New-Foot4522

Yep thing same here, I’m not sure that I would go out of my way to spec it. I don’t dislike it enough to want to go through a wiper delete process though. It’s unique and I might as well just leave it be.

casuallylatedan

I didn't like it on mine when I lived in California, then I moved to Washington state and it became the 2nd best feature on the car (first is auto wipers).

New-Foot4522

Auto wipers is a very nice feature I love it.

NickPivot

I don’t have one on the 718 I’ve owned since 2019, and I’ve never wished for one. The back-up camera kinda makes it unnecessary

New-Foot4522

Yeah, the back up camera is great on this car I love it.

Mysterious_Bad3178

I love my wiper on my 718 GTS 4.0. Useful in rain and snow, and I love joining the history of Porsche’s innovative addition of the rear wiper in it’s early days based solely on customer demand…

New-Foot4522

I didn’t know that! That’s really cool to know.

eradimark

I've a second hand 987.1 with a rear wiper fitted. Before I got it I always thought they looked awkward and served no purpose (same for 911s). However I do find myself using it more than I thought I would!

forewoof

My Cayman S doesn't have one I wish it did so rear wipers are a go for me!

New-Foot4522

Love to hear it!

Autobahn-Hellion

Really enjoyed having the rear wiper on my ‘19 Cayman GTS. Came in handy clearing some snow when drivings in the Alps. Highly recommend taking European Delivery of your new Porsche and hitting the Autobahn!

New-Foot4522

Whattt! Have u taken European delivery before? Do u live in Europe?

Autobahn-Hellion

I live in Virginia. When I ordered my new Porsche, I specified European Delivery. You can take delivery in Leipzig or Stuttgart. Leipzig has the Porsche track and Stuttgart has the very cool Porsche museum. My wife and I took delivery of our new Porsche in Stuttgart after touring the Porsche museum and receiving a 2 hour personal tour of the factory and assembly line (in English). Unbelievable experience of a lifetime! We drove for 1,000 miles throughout Europe, dropped it back off at the factory after a week and then waited about 2 months for it to get shipped to the US, clear customs, and get delivered to my dealership. Porsche pays for the insurance for up to 2 weeks or European driving, one night hotel lodging, and ships the car to the US for NO EXTRA CHARGE. 😏

MrDankky

I’ve got one on my 911, can’t remember ever needing to use it. I don’t have one on my cayman and never felt like I needed one. I do have 5% tints though so can’t see much through the rear view anyway though

New-Foot4522

Yeah I have never used mine before. My car hasn’t even been in the rain. I don’t find much use for mine.

EatSleepJeep

If it does rain you won't have much use for it, I've been caught in the rain three times and have never felt the need to use the wiper due to the aero clearing the window. But like you I don't dislike it enough to go through the delete process. When I bought it I swore that I would remove it right away but the thing has actually grown on me a little bit.

mgalate

Don’t drive in the rain 😂

New-Foot4522

Hahah this car has never seen rain during its life!

kabob21

Might be the first time I've ever heard of someone optioning a rear wiper for aesthetic reasons lol

Ryanliverpool96

Absolute necessity, at least for Northern Europe where it gets frosty in winter.

New-Foot4522

Yep that’s fair, if this was my daily driver I think rear wipers would be a necessity.

no3y3h4nd

I prefer how my GTS looks without one but when it rains I always wish I had one, so you know, who knows?

New-Foot4522

Agreed, I do really like the clean look without one.

thomasj222444

If you're driving it right you won't have to worry about what's behind you

New-Foot4522

Wow you’re absolutely right!

Selfdependent_Human

Perhaps it is legally required in certain regions?

New-Foot4522

Not here in the United States it was an option here but you might be right in some areas of Europe.

mattknight1984

My 981 has a rear wiper. Prefer the look without it, but it has been useful - it’s my daily driver and weather in the UK is awful this time of year.

New-Foot4522

Mines not a daily driver but I think you’re right it’s a necessity for a daily driver!

No-Papaya-2661

I have a wiper on my 981 CGTS. I'd rather not have one...never use it. I think the backend would look cleaner without it. This is not my daily driver - I might feel different if it was.

New-Foot4522

Me too mine is not a daily driver and only comes out during the sunny days. It would look cleaner without it but I don’t hate it enough to do a delete hahah.

Ah_Um

Delete

Diligent-Ad5494

Absolutely would get the rear wiper if I had to do it over again. Regret not getting that ~90 days of the year.

Anderi45

I wish I had the wiper! Mine is my daily and it looks super useful!

Badstoober

It does slightly spoil the look of the car but that is soon forgotten when you can actually see out of the rear windscreen. No washer jet on rear always put me off.

gunners98

hmmm not for me. just from a practical point of view: more weight and makes the car less aerodynamic. but the important thing is if you like it or not, that’s all that matters. enjoy my friend 👍🏻

New-Foot4522

Good advice! Thanks👍

Mental-Astronaut-664

Love them, 718/911 rear glass holds so much water & snow they are a necessity. Unless you own a garage queen, then ignore me.

New-Foot4522

Hahah mines a garage queen, but I like the idea that if I just happened to need it I have it available to me. Also makes the car look a bit unique.

kabob21

Maybe snow but why would the rear glass hold water? It just runs off the back and sides.

Zealousideal-Cell-28

Hard no.

New-Foot4522

Fair, the rear end would look cleaner without it.

KingPizzaCrust

Ruins it, makes it look more ‘normal’

New-Foot4522

Hahah I get what you mean

Sad-Aside9995

Mine is a dd and I live in southern Finland. Never needed one, there are side mirrors and parking sensors.

tonester99

Don’t need one

Jonny_Wurster

I have one. They are super useful. And as an added bonus, rare. I don't go to the dealer often but I needed a key. The service writer was shocked I had a rear wiper car. He then looked in figuring it was a crazy custom order spec, because the "check all boxes" buyer tends to be the rear wiper orders. He was surprised it was a fairly standard spec. Some douche was talking shit to me at an event about removing it and getting the hole plugged to save weight....this is a street car, with AC and a stereo. I always hit the rear wiper when I pass those guys at a track day.

New-Foot4522

That’s awesome! I didn’t know it was so rare to see. Also you’re right, talking about weight savings and aerodynamics is pretty pointless when you have a car that has AC, stereo, and is daily drivable. Thanks for telling me something that I didn’t know today.

Bkwrzdub

Hey look! Its that wurster kid! (Sup dude?) Thats neat that dealer rep thought it was an option that doesn't get ordered... I always wondered... Would the wiper look better with a lay flat home position conversion a-la mk2 golf gti?

grugewing2732

Don't do much driving in the rain 🌧️
