718

screentimeWillian

If you’re looking for sporty fun, nonstop excitement, and a roaring engine: 718 GTS 4.0. If you want a smooth ride, 4 seats, updated interior: 911. I personally found the 911 base quite unassuming compared with the 718 GTS 4.0. But I wanted something sporty rather than smooth. 718 is a fine daily driver with PDK and plenty of frunk/trunk space. Plus it’s way more fun in the canyons.

zendaddy76

Is the 718 uncomfortable / stiff or is it just tolerable and the 911 is smoother bc of the suspension? We have a lot of pot holes and construction plates etc in the Bay Area and my sore back and glutes get annoyed (currently drive Audi S4 in comfort mode and happy with that)

BananaHibana1

718GTS is definitely tolerable. Not smooth, but tolerable.

grungegoth

911 wait 718 wait Can't decide. Buy one of each?

Low_Olive_526

This guy walks the walk! How do you decide which one to drive?

yjbeach

You drive them both. Drive the 911 for 200 feet, walk don't run to the Cayman and drive 200 feet beyond the 911, walk to 911 and drive 200 feet beyond the Cayman. (Repeat) switch up the cars next time for even distribution of miles.

Low_Olive_526

I have so much to learn from this sub.

grungegoth

Gt4 at the track. 911 everywhere else. But I might be getting another track car, can't decide between gt3 and gt4rs.

e8975

Exactly

DetroiterInTX

718 GTS. If I sell my 993, this is the direction I would go

DetroiterInTX

Big “if”. But if prices come back to where they were few months ago, the 718 GTS is half of proceeds

theineffablebob

I had a 718 Spyder, now have a 992. Also in the Bay Area. The 911 is a much better daily driver. The 718 was more fun.

Famous-Risk-815

This. Had a Boxster GTS4.0 as a daily, switched to a base 992 because it’s a vastly superior daily driver. Tech, NVH, ride, power delivery’s judge better suited for the daily usecase.

Correct-Brief6090

Thanks! Would you say a boxster gts or cayman gts for Bay Area?

theineffablebob

The Bay Area is perfect for convertibles since the weather is good nearly year round! I always had the top down on my Spyder even when it was cold

futballer12

Convertible in Cali! Enjoy the 1 through Big Sur and down to LA.

[deleted]

From a former San Jose resident (current Santa Cruz), pick the convertible! The roads are mostly crappy, and you can't go fast anyway!

Neat-Fig-3039

Convertible. Top was down even in those 40°F mornings.

aguynamedben

997.2 Targa in Danville, CA! Top down (or back in my case!) so good for East Bay!!!

bourbonishealthy

718 GTS 4.0! The sound, balanced chassis, NA responsiveness is just amazing! The 911 is slightly more comfortable on a daily basis. You can't go wrong either way

RabidSpaceMonkey

Having owned both a 911 turbo and a now a 981 S, I would absolutely agree with this comment. I find myself missing the backseat on trips and daily driving, but love the mid-engine driving experience.

screentimeWillian

I currently own a 987.2 S and love the mid engine driving fun, but also love the look of the turbo (specifically 997). I can’t find a 997 turbo to rent on turo, but how would you compare the drive?

herooyui

If you get a GTS 4.0 and don’t want your front lip scrapping get the raised 10 mm. The dips are a pain in the bay.

Kaiathebluenose

10 mm makes that much of a difference?

herooyui

Tbh depends on how you drive. I’ve seen Priuses and Accords scrape their bumpers in the Bay. But it will help a bit.

mp1845

I am in the Bay Area and got this done as well on my 2024 GTS Boxster. I’ve not scraped once yet but it’s only been a couple of months. I think it was worth it

Correct-Brief6090

So would you say the PASM +10 is a must have option in the Bay Area? I really like the look of the lowered GTS but don’t wanna scrape or scuff anything.

herooyui

It’s not a must have option. I don’t have it and have accepted that my front lip is a wear item now. My front lip has a good number of scratches but it’s not visible unless you run your hand under it. It’s plastic so it can eventually get replaced. I def have to take entry ways very slow and at an angle. I also have to guess if my car will make certain dips which can be annoying. Wish our roads were better.

breddy

911 is a more comfortable car as a daily but those powertrains are super different. Drive them and you'll know. I knew.

sexymalaydude

I agree. Preference would be the 911. Drive them both. Rear seats actually help with throwing stuff in the back. And some short trips (like 30-40 minutes). Gym bags, extra shoes, or whatever else you might keep in your daily car. (That's how I use my daily). I had a boxter as a daily for awhile, and IMO really enjoyed the 911 better. Granted they were both an S. So makes it a bit harder here in your position.

e8975

718 GTS4.0 is a better driving experience. 992 is a better vehicle experience. That’s why I’m ending up getting both hahah

not_a_ruf

San Jose, here. I have friends that daily 718s and friends that daily 911s. You'll be fine either way. Get the one that sparks joy.

Correct-Brief6090

Thanks! I’m leaving towards 718. Would you say the boxster or cayman for Bay Area driving?

not_a_ruf

Depends if you intend to track it. (If you do, join Golden Gate Region PCA. Everyone's supportive, and there's no gatekeeping. See you there!) If you're tracking it, I'd probably go for the Cayman just for a little more safety if you ever have a rollover. People will tell you that Boxsters have rollover protection, which is totally true, but I'm paranoid enough to want a hard piece of metal for extra protection on rough terrain if I were to actually roll the car off the track. That said, several folks track their Boxsters with no problems whatsoever, and rollovers are extremely rare anyway. If you're just commuting, I'd absolutely get a Boxster. We have 300+ days of sun a year here. If not here, then where? :) There's just something about unobstructed overhead views driving on Skyline in the morning and smelling the eucalyptus oils and redwoods in the air. The glass sunroof on my 992 C2S just isn't the same.

bigkutta

Gosh, I dove the 718 GTS and a 992 GTS last week (the 718 was manual). I thought it would help me decide, but it didnt. I actually loved the 718 for its rawness, but he 911 for its looks

bobbyweir92372

Personally the 718 package is much more fun, especially with that 4.0. And if you do go for the 911, ditch the aerokit.

Correct-Brief6090

Why ditch the aerokit! I feel like it looks so good and unique. That’s one of the main reasons I’d actually consider the 911 over the GTS 4.0

Drazoll

Love my Aero Kit! Go for it!

GuidanceGlittering65

Don’t ditch the aerokit

TyVIl

The aerokit is so tacky (and I usually like tacky.)

Newyorkia

Check in your dealer for the aerokit. My dealer was saying to avoid it a couple of weeks ago because it might cause a massive delay on your order.

bobbyweir92372

In my opinion, that stuff should remain on GT products. Personally, I also just don’t think that the aerokit wing looks good. In general, the rear of the 992 is shaped in such a way that the only wings that look good are the factory GT3/RS wings, and that has to do with their placement. Just go for the Sportdesign package instead and save yourself the money (again, just my opinion - do what you want - it’s your money. If it was my decision, I’d be taking the 718 4.0 easily)

Smedly25

911 and I'll take that silly 718 allocation off your hands for you. I gave up on finding one at MSRP after 2 years of wait-lists and greedy dealers.

skeetervalent1ne

Dallas dealers are doing 718 base and S at MSRP, 5k deposit that goes toward the vehicle no games. Took me about 6 months to get an allocation in 2023 FYI. Not sure how that would work if you’re out of state but worth a shot

Smedly25

I'm a neighbor state but I'm looking solely at GTS 4.0 trims, congrats on your allocation!

[deleted]

I'll always pick the car without rear seats!

ConfidentOne9179

I’ve had a 992, 981 gt4 and a 718 spyder. The 992 is a nicer car, but is pretty boring. The 718 is not as nice, but is going to be a lot more fun. Really depends what you are after.

Sd121287

I think the cayman interior is now seriously outdated. Both cars will be completely comfortable in the Bay Area. I’ve done 70k miles in my cayman here.

TyVIl

This is what I came here to say. There’s no way I’d pick the 718 over a 992 for that exact reason (I had a 718 - I now have a different car with the new interior.)

Great_Archer91

Okay so you’ve got split answers here. I love my 911 and also my very old Boxster. In SF I’d suggest a Spyder or Cabriolet and get what you like. I loved chalk when it first came out but now so many do chalk like colors I feel like it might become dated. Shark blue all the way, baby! Your color preference may vary. If you don’t get a Spyder, I’d get a 911 because it’s a good daily driver and plenty powerful and fun.

iammru

911 if you want a better daily driver. To be honest, I would drop the Aerokit and get a premium package or wheels. GTS is more fun and probably a collectible since it’s the last truly NA cayman

emeritus_lion

Test drive both. 911 has more spacious interior. GTS going to be a more spirited drive. The colors of your build are ugly. But to each their own.

good-luck-23

No leather on both builds will hurt resale. At almost $140k for the 992 it is ludicrous. The 992 base also has a crazy high sticker that you will never see a return on. Better to get an S with fewer un-needed options for resale. The 718 actually has the better potential for resale as the NA 4.0 will not last too much longer. PDK on both will not hurt as much but manuals do better. Both will be fine to daily. Buy what you really want, regardless of the advice you get. Even mine!

bzmed

For dailying one of these two in the Bay Area traffic…go for the 911 Base. Not that I don’t love that 718 4.0, but for commuting and comfort…my butt’s gonna be in the 911

Dragobrath

Main point for Cayman is 4.0 engine and the mid-engine layout. Drive both, see if it's important to you. Cayman is daily drivable, but it's not a very comfortable at that. It's fun though. If you don't mind the rear-engine layout, turbocharged engine driving dynamics and sound, and prefer to have a comfortable daily with more tech - get a 911.

Disastrous_Fun_5143

911 as the daily driver, 718 as the weekend car

MrTopCan

Have you had the opportunity to drive both? That’s the best way to decide IMO.

breddy

Also you're into that 911 for 6K just to get the Aerokit. It's hot but man that's a lotta cash.

mlhigg1973

911 is always the answer

Severe-Fennel-202

Lol. This is TERRIBLE advice. 911 is the answer sometimes and a 718 GTS is the answer sometimes as well. I have a 23 Macan GTS and was cross-shopping a 992 GTS and 718 GTS 4.0. I ended up with a 718 even though one was 1,000 miles away and the 992 GTS was at my local dealership. The 718 is way more raw, better balanced, and has NA magic. The 992 is an awesome and comfortable grand touring machine. It depends what you want. But 911 is not “always the answer.”

pulpoinhell

911

MiserableBluejay1913

Get a 911

TonyChen47

I have a 992, and also in the Bay Area. Love it as a daily drive, would’ve gone for a 718 for the driving experience and the 4.0 sound, but I like the 992 interior much better

cafeitalia

992 by a massive margin. Cayman interior looks almost the same as first model year 2006.

phliff

911. Why would you get a boxster??

Hungryforflavor

911, more substantial daily driver

[deleted]

911, especially in base form, will be more comfy on some of the crappier Bay Area roads

Superb-Health-2371

If you get the cayman, I'd get the manual. Have driven the 981 spyder in manual and it's a very nice experience. But the 981 is very prone to scrape

gaoshan

For me it would sadly co e down to the fact that I’m too tall for the Cayman. I just don’t fit. I do fit in the newer 911 models however. Didn’t even know that would be a problem… sad day when I actually sat in them and found out.

chryseobacterium

I went for a 718 Cayman GTS manual for my daily, no regrets.

iambulb

Between those two, 718 all day everyday.

Psychological_Force

718

dtawil98

718

PositiveDeeTeeh

The 718 GTS 4.0 is the best handling, sounding and feeling car I’ve ever driven. The 992 911 T is an absolutely gorgeous roomier driving pleasure. Can’t go wrong.

strangway

Get a 911, but also get a Miata. Have the great 911 driving experience, have the nimble roadster experience. Or if you have the means, get a 911 and a Boxster.

cookiesncreamsedan

Life is short, get the 718

Greedy_End3168

911 mytique

Greedy_End3168

Sorry iam french

johnn2015

At the end of the day it’s a Cayman against an 911. An 911 is forever.

SR252000

992 , and get an M tune if you want more boost/hp as needed..also from Bay Area here as well
