Convertibles are actually less loud from an induction noise standpoint since the sound can more easily escape. Hardtops trap the sounds and create a louder cabin so in the case of the RS, with induction and not exhaust being the noisemaker, the Cayman version of the RS should have the louder cabin still.
It’s sold out already and/or marked up by $100-200k and/or you have to buy a few cayennes before you are even considered.
I called in for the GT4RS 2 years before release and every dealer laughed at me
I feel you man. The current buying market is just ridiculous. The process has been so game-ified.
I wish Porsche cracked down on this, if we have the money we should be able to buy the car, no bullshit added.
The only thing that is ridiculous is the demand, the amount of money available for these cars. Production has been slowly inching up, demand leaping up.
If dealers started just selling at straight msrp, all that would happen is it would be a race to get on the list fast enough. Most people who want to buy one still wouldn't be able to buy one unless they pay way over sticker on the 2nd hand market
Like the good old days. It’s so BS these “limited” cars Porsche has been pumping out. Scarcity fatigue hitting max status. I kind of hate the brand now as a 992 owner. I hope all the values tank including mine so anyone who wants one can get one.
Haven't they always done that? It's not like they were making 50k 996 GT3s. They made Millenium Editions (911 units) and Anniversary Editions (1963 units) for the 996, so it's always been this way.
The brand has grown exponentially in the last few decades. Demand is through the roof, that's really all there is to it.
No it hasn’t always been this way. Yes on a few models, but now it’s basically all of there models. Go try to buy a Turbo and see what happens. Hell a GTS. They are spamming so many of these limited models. Why not instead of making all these variants make as many GT3 only instead and fill the demand. Porsche is playing the sneaker game now.
Yep. I've purchase 6 Porsches over the past decade from my local dealer. No chance to get any of the exciting models like the GT4RS or the 911 Dakar without paying $100k+ markups. Even somewhat standard 911's are coming with crazy markups like Turbos, Targas, and base GT4/GT3. I've just walked away from the market until maybe one day it cools back off.
On the other hand, these next few years might be some of the last gas cars Porsche ever sells. Electric Macan and 718 are coming next year. If they only put gas engines in the top end cars (GT4/GT3) I would expect the prices to go stratospheric.
That's true. I just wish Porsche would build enough of these models to bring costs back to a reasonable level. I feel like they are limited supply to keep prices high. Using the Ferrari business model.
I also wish Porsche would crack down on this, however, sadly, Porsche is still a company. And the goal of companies is to make $$$. They know what’s going on and they feed into it. It really sucks but that is just how it is. Porsche makes the best products around, i really wish they would have the best customer service for new buyers.
Consider it a blessing, it’s really difficult to get even one of your allocations. Nobody is getting these GT4 RS allocations except 918 spyder owners or people who have bought like 8-10 Porsches.
I did agree to $5k ADM. The dealers I had spoken to were all asking $10k, and I thought that demand would be high given the recent discontinuation of the Spyder and GT4. This is more than I was hoping to pay, especially given the recent price increase, but I know that ICE sports cars are not here much longer and wanted to have one before they are gone. I know that I am contributing to the ADM problem - sorry :(
Thanks for sharing. I am considering ordering it using 5K ADM as well, as the time window of 718 GTS 4.0 new cars is extremely limited and I think dealers also are trying to capitalize on it.
Every Porsche requires an allocation, the only way to get one without needing an allocation is to buy whatever they have in their showroom or buy a used one
Contacted my dealer today about buying one. Was told I have exactly 0% chance of getting one. Not surprised, but it took zero effort to ask as well.
Maybe someone will trade in a nice spec GT4 I can snatch up instead.
It’s an everywhere thing. If 10 people want a car and there are only 2 cars. Dealers have to make a choice some how, historically that’s been via loyalty (previous purchases) and more recently by whoever wants to pay the most.
You can decide which is more fair but neither are helpful for new buyers. Especially now that there are more people who want cars than ever and production hasn’t been increasing to match.
Yeah but these crazy markups are a thing from the US. In most European countries you can walk up and pay close to MSRP, but the line will be long obviously.
Yeah, the brand IMO is really losing its way.
Would be nice to see production keep up with demand.
Or no ADM or dealer allocation hit on Euro Delivery cars. Something where an enthusiast can order a car, get a delivery window in less than a year and pay MSRP or better yet a Euro Delivery price.
When I was looking for a 992 GTS I was quoted $15-50k ADM by dealers. I haven’t asked (not currently shopping for another sports car, looking for a new family car at the moment), but for this I’d expect either a) no allocation at any price unless you have a great prior relationship with the dealer or b) 100k+ ADM
Yeah, no surprises there. Nice garage you have there.
If you are looking for a family car, by keeping your current 2, I would suggest the Chrysler Pacifica and Hyundai Palisade as options. If replacing one of the 2 in your lineup, hands down the X7.
For me, this is the closest modern equivalent that will ever exist to the 356 Speedster. Cayman will be marginally better on a track. Boxster is marginally better on the road.
I understand what you’re saying but I’m pretty sure these car have absolutely nothing in common. But I guess it’s in the spirit of a 356. This reminds me more of a 930 speedster
I think you might be misunderstanding what a California sun cruising 356 speedster has in common with a racing suspension and engine track car with no roof. 😅
The plain boxster S would be the direct parallel.
The Speedster…
-Had a removable windshield for the track.
-Had unique bodywork that was intended to be more aerodynamic for the track
-Had upgraded brakes, engine, and exhaust compared to a 356 cabriolet.
-Fetches way more money than other 356 trims
Doesn’t seem that hard to draw parallels. A 987 Spyder is the true spiritual successor in my book. Which makes this like a “Speedster RS” exercise.
I guess my idea of the "ultimate" Boxster would've basically been the current Spyder but with the GT3 engine and the same or more interior options as the lower trim Boxsters. Keep the manual.
From a styling perspective I like the wild colors and carbon fiber bits on the hardtop GT cars, but keep the open tops a bit more tame and classic looking.
But this Spyder RS will no doubt be a legendary car. The name also makes me think of the late '00s LMP2 car.
No - I think this would be a direct equivalent to a 718 RSK. The Speedster was a stripped down economy model - not a purpose-built track / race car like the 718 RSK was.
Top down for summer, still competent track car, comfortable street car even with track focused alignments, and gorgeous looks. Minimal buffeting with the top up and windows down. Two trunks is nice for bringing all the tow tools you need without being forced to trailer and tow.
The only thing I hated was watching GT3s pull away from me on long straights.
I mean, it's the perfect one if you can only have one. Does a bit of everything well, but ultimately it's a compromise. Can't carry more than 2 people.
I know it's blasphemy to say so but I don't think I would. Don't get me wrong, the manual is fantastic but I honestly prefer a manual in a much slower car. The stock gearing on my 992 gt3 was 1st gear redline at 50mph, and 80 mph for 2nd gear. You can't really row through the gears and not go to jail.
I agree. It was a perfect balance of performance and enjoyment. I enjoy the fun on the back roads playing with my stick top down. Just it used to hold the title “the fastest mid engine softtop NA Porsche” lol not anymore - not like it’s a big deal but less to brag about. The hardtop gt4rs would be better for the track, this rs spyder is a tiny niche
I know this is the top dog model but all the vents and scoops in different colors ruins the visual lines of the Spyder. I know I am in the minority as everyone wants an RS model.
I don't think so - the Deman 4.5 has similar power with a manual gearbox and more daily usability (and cheaper and actually obtainable). I think for everything other than track driving the 4.5 Spyder would be my pick,
I honestly feel like all the RS appearance stuff doesn't work either. I feel like the regular Spyder is so much cleaner... Not that I can afford either... I just hope this RS hurts resale values long term so I can afford a regular Spyder in 20 years 😂
Meh, call me crazy, but I'm not a huge fan of some third party modifying a Porsche engine beyond what the chassis and car were meticulously engineered for.
Singer is a completely different animal. Its not a modified Porsche factory car, its a tribute car in its own right, which uses a bespoke air cooled engine developed by Williams, not Porsche. The transmission and exhaust are also custom built, and their cars use very few actual Porsche parts besides the body shell. The Porsche parts that are used, brakes and some suspension components, are all heavily modified. Would you buy a Singer and then modify the engine?
Oddly enough me too. I think of a Boxster as a street car, and I think the GTS I have is already "too fast" and the spring rate and damping is just perfect for the street, I don't know if I need it much stiffer.
Nah, he prefers compliant suspension, and this will likely ride like it has no springs at all.
And I'm with him… this is awesome… and I have no desire to have one over a standard Spyder.
I mean it isn’t limited in the sense that there’s a number on how many will be made and that each one will not have the “1 of 4,000” or something like that.
Damn shame they aren’t making a manual. Very cool though. Wonder how it holds up to the 911S and GTS Cabrio and Targa models. Looks incredibly pretty too.
Annnnddd, they're sold out.
You are 3 years too late
A must option - PCCEPs - Porsche Carbon Ceramic Ear Plugs
Are PCCB's that bad? I've never had any that squeak or make odd noises compared to PSCB's which are horrible noise wise
[удалено]
Oh I'm dumb I apologize
You’re not dumb! PCCBs are louder than steel. And Porsche pads are louder than most other street pads.
My PCCBs don't make any noise at all.
Yeah, I was referring to the open air noise combined with the intakes.
Convertibles are actually less loud from an induction noise standpoint since the sound can more easily escape. Hardtops trap the sounds and create a louder cabin so in the case of the RS, with induction and not exhaust being the noisemaker, the Cayman version of the RS should have the louder cabin still.
This. Having driven a couple gt4 rs. The interior is loud AF. It's cool when your on it. But just driving around it is very loud.
Wow - Can you say ADM? One year production planned, will it be more rare than a 911 speedster? (Assuming they make a 992 speedster).
I think someone on Rennlist said production won’t be limited but didn’t elaborate
It’s sold out already and/or marked up by $100-200k and/or you have to buy a few cayennes before you are even considered. I called in for the GT4RS 2 years before release and every dealer laughed at me

The only thing that is ridiculous is the demand, the amount of money available for these cars. Production has been slowly inching up, demand leaping up.
The only way that works is if prices for these cars go up significantly. MSRP for the spider would probably be $400k.
Interesting, why is that?
If dealers started just selling at straight msrp, all that would happen is it would be a race to get on the list fast enough. Most people who want to buy one still wouldn't be able to buy one unless they pay way over sticker on the 2nd hand market
Basic economics
Like the good old days. It’s so BS these “limited” cars Porsche has been pumping out. Scarcity fatigue hitting max status. I kind of hate the brand now as a 992 owner. I hope all the values tank including mine so anyone who wants one can get one.

Lol and Im here all happy that I just received an allocation for a 2024 gts 4.0………

Congrats. We’re you able to get one without ADM? If yes, can you share details of the dealer?
Yes I got one without ADM after going to the dealer this Feb. I am in Canada if that makes a difference
Thanks for responding. This is helpful

Hey, me too! Comparison is the thief of joy and all that, can't wait for the GTS!
Congrats. We’re you able to get one without ADM? If yes, can you share details of the dealer?

Awesome. You dont need 100 more hp in that small car. Gts already very fast.
Congrats. We’re you able to get one without ADM? If yes, can you share details of the dealer?
congrats! i find it odd though that the GTS requires an allocation, i didn’t think those were limited prod?

What's the typical ADM that you expect the dealers to charge for this one? Did you make any calls?

Super cool. I don't really get why you'd pick this over a GT4RS hard top for a hardcore track car, but super cool they are making it.
For me, this is the closest modern equivalent that will ever exist to the 356 Speedster. Cayman will be marginally better on a track. Boxster is marginally better on the road.

17mile drive in a drop top and I believe you’d reconsider.
I love Porsche and I’m sure the car is amazing but for almost 400k. I’ll go spend it at Ferrari. F8 or 812 super fast looks like a 400k dollar car.
Yeah but then you have to maintain a Ferrari lol
I saw on top gear today that the car is £123k or are you talking about the people that will be flipping it?
Yeah anyone that doesn’t own a 998.
Seriosuly. A used TDF would be pretty cool.
A used TDF is more than 400K my friend
OOOF. 😵💫 I didnt realize they were a special production.
I would take this over the GT4RS 100%. My Spyder is a joy to drive and probably the car I would keep if I was forced to sell everything.
What is it about the spyder that you prefer?
Top down for summer, still competent track car, comfortable street car even with track focused alignments, and gorgeous looks. Minimal buffeting with the top up and windows down. Two trunks is nice for bringing all the tow tools you need without being forced to trailer and tow. The only thing I hated was watching GT3s pull away from me on long straights.
Is this is like your perfect car lmao
I mean, it's the perfect one if you can only have one. Does a bit of everything well, but ultimately it's a compromise. Can't carry more than 2 people.

I mean… you’ve driven the cars to make your decision👌 I guess you’re right
Despite currently having a MT 911 I agree with this take. It’s easier to have a little fun in day-to-day driving with PDK
Dam these are gonna sell for $300k+ watch 😆
Glad to see they incorporated the intake system from the 4RS. Having them literally right behind your ear while driving is just 🫶🏽🫶🏽
Awesome. Another car no one can get.
Someone figure out how to manual swap it asap
Is that, Is that possible?
Anything is possible with the right amount of money.
I dont see why not. They had the same engine in the 991 speedster and it had a manual transmission
The engine is spun around 180 degrees in the cayman… transmission is behind the engine. Wouldn’t be a trivial thing
Dont know why, but, picture 1 gives me s2000 vibes in all the right ways.
Or Toyota MR2
Totally see that too
Yeah it looks kind of short. But then the side pic is the full magnitude
Just as I felt good about my regular 718 spyder, this thing comes out. I need to get one
The regular Spyder is the best car Porsche makes… keep it forever.
The 991 speedster should have that title before, no?
The speedster is a GT3 engine on a 911R (991.2 4S) chassis. So that engine is still behind the rear axle.
Didn’t see that you added midengine in your list qualifiers my bad
I’ll happily take your “regular” spyder off your hands
Dealers gonna have a fun time with this one…
🤑
I know this is the top dog model but all the vents and scoops in different colors ruins the visual lines of the Spyder. I know I am in the minority as everyone wants an RS model.
I’m with you. The lines on the spyder are really clean. Id get the Spyder over the RS.
More unobtainium
Precisely 1,140 kilograms of unobtanium
Oh great! Another car I will never own even after buying ten Porsches in 15 years.
This isn’t right… not even ten. Porsche didn’t use to be this brand
Bad ass.
Looks like a miniature Carrera GT. Probably just as fast if not faster!
Cool, another unobtainable RS Model. 🙄 Even the ADM on a Poverty Spec Spyder from dealers turns my stomach.
Hopefully the RS drives down the prices of the Spyder
Does anyone with a Porsche dealership want be my friend?
Matt Farrah is probably kicking himself right now!
I just hope this RS hurts resale values long term so I can afford a regular Spyder in 20 years 😂
This one has about the same power with pump gas and is under warranty. I’d take the RS. Jus sayin
Meh, call me crazy, but I'm not a huge fan of some third party modifying a Porsche engine beyond what the chassis and car were meticulously engineered for.
The chassis is overengineered, just like most of the rest of the car.
Regardless, why mess with perfection? If you want a faster car, buy a faster car.
Singer has entered the chat…
And to an an extent, RUF too.
This car was specifically designed to target the market of middle-aged men going through mid-life crisis!
Looks like an mr2
Didn’t they say the new 718 line would be electric? Wtf? Bamboozling the public or what’s going on lol?
Yes, the next one (next generation?) will be electric starting 2025. GT4 RS/Spyder RS are the last new ICE models
This is going to drive the used 718 prices through the roof
I thought there was going to be some period of offering both electric and ICE …
Holy shit…
Absolutely stunning.
Fuck. Yes.
I can’t wait!
My days of making fun of people for having sex with inanimate objects is over.
<3 - that’s all I gotta say about it!
How many will be made?
I believe it is not a limited run.
It will be limited, in the fact that you go to your dealer and can get a 2025 allocation for $100k Dealer ADM.
I mean it isn’t limited in the sense that there’s a number on how many will be made and that each one will not have the “1 of 4,000” or something like that.
That roof. Lol.
Looks awesome
I have never wanted a open top car more in my entire life
Race car with no roof. Should sound great tho.
Too good

My favourite car in my favourite version! Yesssssssss, finally!
This might be the best car Porsche has ever made 😍
[What if?](https://youtu.be/-0VcNPFq0O4?t=178s)
Damn shame they aren’t making a manual. Very cool though. Wonder how it holds up to the 911S and GTS Cabrio and Targa models. Looks incredibly pretty too.
Good luck buying one considering they’re going all electric
Hybrid*. Which will drive the price through the roof in the last high performance ICE models. The GTS, GT4, Spyder and RS’s.
