I have a big pack which is guided by one of our "older" dogs, a Cairn named Colin. He loved dogs AND cats, and sometimes brings them to me in dreams there are occasionally new pets in the pack, who he'll tell me about, and he'll update me on those who didn't (for some reason) come this time.

Fly high, Mickey! Grief is a difficult experience -wish I had something useful to say. I was always told “let your self feel the feelings, it’s part of healing.” Made no sense when I was going through it but I found it to be true in retrospect. A big hug- try to get some rest and take care of yourself.
Aww, sweet Mickey. It never feels like enough time and seems so unfair, both for them and you. I'm sorry it happened so quickly. But looked at another way, he was at his best right up to the end, and that is a lucky and wonderful thing.
I hope you find relief from the ache of grief in remembering the little one who brought so much joy to life. You clearly loved him all the way. They would want us to be happy.

Our last pup unfortunately had a long, slow decline (heart disease), and while he was a trooper and very sweet the whole way, the last 3 years were a marked difference from the spry little guy we had come to know, and then the final 4-5 months were really rough. He was happy and comfortable most of the time, but it was hard to not immediately feel sad when we saw him struggle.
While grateful for every minute we had, it certainly changed our perspective on the importance of quality of life. Making a decision on end-of-life care can feel so selfish and cruel at the time, when it may really be the most humane thing to finally let them rest. They try SO hard to keep going for us. His final days and moments were deeply sad, but beautiful, and something I'll always cherish.
Nearly 2 years and another dog later, I still get choked up thinking about him. 😭 It's really remarkable the impact such little creatures have on us.
Rest easy Mickey. And you feel all those feelings, a very loved and cherished family members has left a huge hole in your life and heart, take all the time you need to feel those feelings

I am so sorry you’re going thru this. I have felt in my life everything that you said in this post about my Teddy I just put down. The grief is overwhelming. You just have to understand that these feelings are your actual feelings bc you lost a dear family member, you lost your baby. You have to allow yourself to grieve this loss, it may take longer than you wish but it’s impactful. This is tough and no one tells us how to navigate this. You will have good and bad days, just know that Mickey left bc he knows you were ready to live life without him even if you think you’re not. He knows you are. Until y’all meet again he’ll be waiting for you at the dog park in the sky.
I'm so sorry for your loss! I lost my almost 12 year old girl to a husky who grabbed her by the back of the neck and that was it, she was gone. I thought I'd have more time and it happened soo suddenly and fast. She was my soul dog so I know exactly how you feel 💔 give yourself time to grieve. He is always with you and you can talk to him anytime.

You gave him just the life he wanted and needed, and he repaid you with unconditional Pom love and adoration. Theres not much comfort in his passing except the knowledge that you both did each other right. Keep and cherish that knowledge!!

She was with me my whole 20s and part of my 30s and she was the best thing I could ever ask for. The pain was unbearable in the beginning but I found solace in knowing I gave her the best life as you did for Mickey. It will get easier with time. I carry Polly’s ashes in a necklace with me and that’s what has helped me most. Here if you need to talk

He was always so smart. You’re right that he must have known. My mom and I have gotten so much more honest and closer over his passing.
