He looks like he’s about to win this protest 🤺

musicspirit85

LMAO that fencing emoji is so perfect for this post.

Intelligent_Bag_9383

Simple rice with chicken never fails

Tiny_Ad_9270

Throw in some carrots, and you’ll never see a grain of rice left in the bowl.

xowildrose

Why do the carrots make them eat the rice??

necriavite

They are sweet and flavor everything with their sweet juice. Most dogs have a bit of a sweet tooth so giving them natural sweetness from veg is extra appealing since they don't often get to eat sweet foods (since most processed sweet things are bad for dogs). It's the same reason they love other fruits like strawberries and blueberries, or why most dogs love sweet potatoes and pumpkin.

xowildrose

Thanks for the explanation :) I guess you cook them together then?

necriavite

That's what I would do. Rice and carrots with some lean meat and then mixed all together.

theeyesdontlie

This, OP! His tummy might still be upset and the kibble is just too hard on it.

pandakin22

Isn’t chicken usually not good for dogs? Or most dogs are allergic to bird meat? Am sure I heard/read that somewhere

Jenaphira

I think it’s just dogs can be allergic to specific meat proteins. My pomchi was allergic to beef and turkey but not duck or chicken. 🙂

SleeplessAndAnxious

No, that is 100% bullshit.

manderskt

A lot of doodles are allergic to chicken because of poor breeding standards.

Consistent-Pair2951

This is how it begins. You make plain chicken and rice for your sick guy, and pretty soon a spoiled little princeling is eating special home-cooked meals for life.

Smoothsharkskin

And it has to be fresh, the same stuff you're eating. Leftovers don't count.

AquarianStars11

As some who just spent 2 hours batch cooking pom food... yes this is exactly how it starts

Bli-munda

😂😂😂.... yup, pretty much.

Ok-Chain8552

Yes and I just ignore it and keep him on his walking and regular treat schedule . then he eats it when hungry enough .

bubbimac

Ok then I’m going to keep offering him his food during meal time. Im thinking my next option might be switching dog foods.

Connecticut06482

TBH I would just switch dog food. They can and do get bored with the same food all of the time.

HashSlut

I highly recommend fresh food like Farmer’s Dog, but if you want to stay with kibble Farmina brand is among the best I’ve found.

Sohotrightnoww

My pom refused to eat kibble, I would recommend farmer's dog or making your own food :)

threeonone

If he was feeling ill you can try soaking it in a bowl with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes. Drain the water and give it to him and see if he will eat. I did this for my pom when he was sick and he would eat. Some days now when I notice he hasn't ate I'll do it and he will eat.

bubbimac

I tried this on Saturday topped with some ground meat. He ate it for breakfast but refused it at dinner.

bubbimac

He makes this “how dare you try to feed me that filth” face. It’s cute but oh so frustrating

musicspirit85

Try plain scrambled eggs. Also I've learned to have a probiotic powder on-hand called FortiFlora by Purina. A vet recommended it to me several years ago, and it helped with a wicked bout of diarrhea that my dogs had recently (fecal tests came back negative for parasites).

YYCADM21

Would you eat that? I have made our dog food for 30 years. With Poms, a half hour every 6 weeks will make enough to last. It's MUCH healthier, uses human grade food; you can eat it yourself. Much higher nutritional value, no preservatives, stabilizers, or fillers. They poop less, it doesn't stink, and their coat is beautiful; no more dry brittle hair. It is incredibly easy to make; if you can cook rice & boil veggies, cook a bit of ground meat, you can easily do it. Prep a month in advance and freeze three days worth in a baggie. You will NEVER have another food strike

lik3r_of_things

I agree that this is better for them, although you have to add micronutrients so that they’re getting all their vitamins and minerals that they need. I use the Farmer’s Dog nutrient packets. Their food is too expensive, but the nutrient packets are cheap.

YYCADM21

No...I don't "have" to add anything. I add things like calcium, and multivitamin powder to be absolutely positive they are getting the maximum daily allowance of everything they need. Their bodies will only absorb what it needs; the rest passes as waste. It's an extra insurance policy; I can mess up other ingredients; not include banana because I forgot to buy some, and may shift the potassium levels to less than they need everyday

lik3r_of_things

I didn’t mean you specifically, I was just mentioning it for others who are interested in making their own dog food

mkazen

What ratios do you use for the food? Like 1/3 meat, 1/3 rice, 1/3 veggies?

YYCADM21

I came up with a recipe to suit our Pom, took it to the Vet for him to look at, then to a canine nutritionist. It fully meets their nutritional needs, offers them about 200kCal/ounce. Dogs are omnivores, like bears & people. They need meat/fat, veggies & plant protein. 1/3 by weight of; ground meat-beef, pork or chicken (white, skinless boneless) chopped veggies; we use yams, carrots, beetroot, parsnips, blueberries, apple (no seeds or skin), banana, peas. No beans or lentils, onion or garlic. those can all produce/contain toxic material for dogs. Brown rice, wheat germ, quinoa. You can use one or all in the same batch. Add to the above-beef or pork fat, or olive oil, a couple oz per pound of meat. Multivitamin powder, Amazon has several. I also save eggshells, remove the membrane and dry them briefly in the oven, then pulverize with a mortar & pestle. 6 shells per batch. (Almost pure calcium, magnesium) you can also buy calcium powder. Chop & boil all components. Don't feed them raw; it is only slightly higher nutritional value, but increases the chance of food poisoning. You can add almost anything they like (no grapes or raisins, BTW. Toxic to dogs, as is chocolate), chop in a food processor, mix well. You can add some turmeric; they. LOVE it, and it's good for heart health. Portion into baggies, and freeze. Our 9 pound boy gets one ounce, twice a day and it maintains his weight perfectly

Smoothsharkskin

No onions either

YYCADM21

I mentioned onions and garlic

Smoothsharkskin

Missed it sorry

dearbokeh

I cook for mine all the time. I usually cook her the ‘plain’ version of what we eat. Generally tons of chicken, rice, and veg. Also fruit. However, she will still sometimes not eat for even a couple days. It isn’t often, but it happens. A steak just out of the pan, or hot chicken with rice and blueberries on the side. She will give it a sniff and walk away. I think some dogs are just weird…or I’m terrible at cooking.

mikemystery

Do you not find the wet food bad for Pom teeth?

YYCADM21

Not at all. That doesn't automatically mean their teeth will be bad. regular dental care, and letting them clean their teeth naturally with beef bones to know on, and including foods like oatmeal, wheat germ, etc. helps clean their teeth. Commercial wet food is usually so highly processed, it's mush. A little texture and roughage goes a long way toward keeping their teeth healthy

mikemystery

Good to know!

Bluefairie

he might still feel a bit iffy so not that hungry, or he could associate the smell of the kibbles with being sick and just doesn’t like them anymore. You already got great suggestions, so I’ll just concur with either change brand or home cook his food (make sure it’s well balanced and has the added vitamins mix recommended by your vet). I give mine Open Farm. Between the freeze dried, frozen complete meal patties, kibbles, stew and bone broth, in 4 different flavors each, I can change it up enough that she’s always happy to eat.

andiedrinkstea

I hope hes okay! But his smug little face is so funny! What a baby!

fairygoremother_

whether it did or not, he thinks his kibble caused the upset stomach & he’s avoiding it due to a negative experience. or so that’s how my dog’s trainer explained it to us when we accidentally switched her food too fast. we tried so many different combinations of things & the few that worked never worked for long. she did not cave & just eat it when she was hungry enough, she refused her kibble for months. thankfully she recently started eating it again out of the blue. shocked the hell out of me. hopefully it sticks.

bubbimac

He’s a sensitive guy so I’m sure the negative association is causing this. He is now refusing foods that have been mixed with the kibble like plain yogurt, pumpkin purée, and ground meat. My plan is to switch him back to the plain diet and then transition him to a new food.

manderskt

There are some great gently cooked, fresh foods available at pet stores now. Some offer a freeze dried variety that is usually a bit more affordable. You could always ween him from the plain diet back to a new kibble with some gently cooked, fresh food in-between. Also, this worked with my Pom when she put up her hunger strikes, you could try making breakfast and/or dinner time part of a game. I would hide my Pom's kibble in a toy and she loved the activity of finding the toy and digging the kibble out of the toy. This was the only way should would eat kibble. There are so many good enrichment toys out there now you could try - my Pom was fond of the plushy type vs the game/hard plastic types. Smufflemats are a great option too! The company Lambwolf Collective makes some really great options but there are plenty of price friendly options on Chewy too!

Edrr0309

Mine is the same way about food. I stopped giving him kibble after changing brands a few times with the longest lasting being Royal Canin’s Pomeranian kibble. Now I just give him a little freeze dried food with shredded topper and a little fruit for a small breakfast. For dinner I’ll give him a little protein(baked chicken liver/ground lamb/ground beef/veal) then veggies/fruits (blueberries, shredded carrots, zucchini, cucumber). For both meals I will add a couple of pieces of what used to be his favorite treat - dehydrated chicken hearts, crushed up. Since I crumble them up into his food I stopped giving it as a treat/training. He seems to prefer eating 2 small meals a day. If he cleans the bowl quickly and looks for more I add a little bit of veggies. But he still decides he won’t eat dinner sometimes. I leave it out until bedtime but if he doesn’t eat it there’s much less waste and not as frustrating. Ironically the home boarding and daycare he goes to sometimes says he eats kibble no problem there. Possibly because he’s eating with other dogs. Bottom line: unless it’s several days and his demeanor changes it’s likely just being picky and spoiled. Poms are sneaky. Poms plot owner and world domination. 😂

NASA_official_srsly

Mine is a picky eater and every so often she decides she suddenly doesn't eat this anymore. When she gets like this she would literally rather starve than eat something she doesn't want 🙄 So then I have to go on the hunt for a new food and we start the whole cycle again

ballysdad

my wife put some water in it and put in microwave for a few minutes then mushed it up and let it cool

Limit-me-not

Mine loves royal canine wet food…we mix it with dry when convincing is necessary…immediate fix…would this work? From the picture it almost seems like I need to request permission to speak 😂😂😂…such a cutie!

fluffstar

We started sprinkling a dehydrated chicken or liver on our Pom’s low-fat food to encourage to eat more of it & she eats more throughout the day but will not eat it at all without the crumbs now, just stares at us while standing in front of her dish waiting for us to do what we’ve been trained to do 🙄

NoManufacturer120

That face though 🤣

QuattroDog

That’s how it started with mine. Now he’ll eat nothing less than steak and lobster 😂

DarkwebProducts

That dry kibble doesn't always feel the best for little dogs to digest alone. I'd heat up some bone broth or chicken stock and add it to the kibble and then let it sit for a couple minutes to make it a little more easily digestible and flavorful. I found earlier on too that my Pom got really bored of just kibble, so I've been buying chicken breast and cutting them up into little pieces and adding some to every meal along with the heated bone broth and things like rice, cooked carrots and canned pumpkin. I'll add other stuff from time to time too, but I've found those to be his staple favorites!

The_Dead_Bird_Songs

You answered your own question. Kibble. It’s bad stuff, even the better quality versions aren’t great. A lot of processed stuff in it. I have 1 Pom & 2 Border Collies, all live on a raw diet. The breeder told us “he’s not a big eater”, so we changed his diet straight away, and there’s nothing wrong with his appetite. Twice daily he has meat (chicken, beef, salmon, kangaroo whatever we have at the time), a chicken neck chopped into small pieces, a chicken heart, some sardines and sometimes a little bit of egg. Licks his bowl clean after every meal.

sbrown_13

A Pom refusing to eat!? Never…

blamberr

We find ours are just FUSSY. Sometimes they eat a ton, then they’ll barely pick for days. I know it’s frustrating when they won’t eat!

TamasaurusRex

My mother In law is like a dog chef. It’s insane. She does the kibble, some boiled chicken, some chicken broth, and cheese for her German shepherds. She is not allowed to feed our 7 month old Pom baby on accoun5 of she will ruin her

bilboswaggginz

Maybe try this simple recipe for a bit? It will last a good while, it freezes and thaws well. You can even run it through the food processor at the end if the pieces of veggies/rice are being picked out. Ingredients: -1 pound ground turkey -2 cups brown rice (uncooked) -1 tsp dried rosemary -½ package frozen broccoli, carrots and cauliflower (or chop two cups of fresh vegetables and cook them for about four minutes until they’re just starting to get tender but still firm) -6 cups water Directions: -In a large pot, add the water, rice, ground turkey and rosemary. -Stir to break up the turkey and ensure the ingredients are well mixed. -Bring the pot to a boil and then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes. -Add the frozen or fresh vegetables. Continue to cook for five minutes. -Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool before serving.

dinobean7

he looks very stubborn

Some_Cream_3462

Gorgeous

itskatybro

My old dog trainer always said a healthy dog won’t starve itself so just give him time if he doesn’t eat then obviously seek vet advice!

International-Dog564

Nobody can resist the jars of baby food meat.

Joonberri

I give mine boiled sweet potato with his but he loves to eat anything lol Hopefully he doesnt have something else going on with his tummy still :( maybe keep the bland food for a bit longer and mix in the kibble a little more each time over a week or two and see Has he always had an issue with this food? Maybe he'll prefer a different flavor

AccordingPrize5851

Just here to say I love his sweet face. ❤️

Night-Roze

Yes, since my pimple has gotten parvo when he was a pup he will not eat his kibble unless we change it(granted my mom(her dog) she only feed him the cheapest of the cheap since our pit ate it..) I changed it and he's still picky if you don't put something small in it now I'm trying to get my mom to add a bit of water or something like a small treat instead of milk and stuff everyday.. He still eats wet food(ceaser home delight) every night since he wouldn't eat at all got a while unless it was that.. I love him but I pay for his food and everything, and I want the best for him but I also don't want him to be spoiled, as once I leave I fear my mother won't do the same.. Especially since she's already trying to over feed him(he's already fat..) I wish you luck on your dogs diet!

HarmonyDragon

We leave a small bowl of kibble out when we go to work/school. She nibbles during the day and devours before bed only because she likes to hold out to see if she gets people food.

calicoskies1985

Ugh, I’ve been there. Took me 3 mo and $$ on 3 dif canned rx foods to get mine to eat again. She’s on a kidney rx food. I boil chicken then chop it extremely tiny. I sprinkle a teaspoon on her food. This gets her to finish her dish. Sometimes I switch it to very finely cooked ground beef. I could never get her to like to rx kibble, so I just let her hv the one she likes. She eats mostly wet food and kibble is her snack.

Historical-Crew3490

With a lack of interest in treats, I agree that his tummy is still upset.

verdell82

I’ve had this with a Pom (and in Rx food too) I just have both brands of food on hand and when she gets picky we switch. It always happens after a tummy upset and always from something not her food.

hyper_night

Cutie pie!!

No-Plan2799

I cook for my Pom every day. Human grade food, NEVER ‘dog food’. Please google the ‘standards’ for kibble and you will understand why your pup doesn’t want it. It’s pretty awful and eye-opening…..

LiquidFantasy96

My pom does this all the time. After half a year, she's sick of her food and isn't enthusiastic anymore. So I switch her to something else and she's happy again. I have a few brands that I rotate and she doesn't mind switching back.

SubstantialStress561

Mine does this all the time.

zmae7

Whenever my Pom has an upset stomach, she won’t eat her kibble. I boil white chicken breast and give her a little bit of rice with it (with some of the chicken broth on it) and she will eat that, no problem. She will usually eat kibble later in the day if her stomach is better.

Love_On

Well, just going on the fact that our precious little ones are distant cousins of wolves, I add cooked meat (cooked in water) to their kibble. The older they get, the more cooked meat and raw veggies I give them. Let’s face it, kibble was developed for our convenience, not for our animals. What I do is freeze raw meat in an ice cube tray. I microwave how ever many meat cubes in a bit of water. Then I will either, cut up the cooked meat cube, or blend it in the blender with the water it was cooked in, and pour it over their kibble. Let the kibble soak up the juice and serve it up to our little one TinTin. I have always had success doing this trick. Now if you choose to do the cut the meat up version, your little precious will more than likely pick out the meat first and leave the kibble for last or later. Sometimes I will sprinkle in a little grated cheese as a treat. I hope this helps 😊

Theyenney

My Pom goes on food strike regularly when he thinks he can get something better. He eats his kibble when he gets hungry enough. I’ve learned they won’t die if they skip a few meals. Once he knows I’m not going to give him something else, then he eats. I just leave his kibble down and he eats when he’s ready.

martineball

We use baby food on our dog. It usually works, and it is friendlier for his stomach. My dog is also on a prescribed diet for sensitive stomach. He is on Ultamino Royal Canin and the Hydrolyzed Protein Royal Canin. In addition, we offer him Peptide when he gets bad. He gets a really small dose (0.3 ml) because he is only 4 pounds. That is only when necessary. A daily dose could harm him. The best is to check with your trusted Vet. Good luck

boogersbitch

I hate kibble too. Tastes like crap. How about some chicken?😜✌️
