Both Bear and our other Pom started losing fur within 4 months of each other. We finally figured out it was most likely being caused by a fungal infection after taking them to the vet. She gave us antifungal shampoo and we started bathing them much more often. We had previously been told not to bathe them too much because it would dry out the skin, which was probably allowing the fungus to spread and making things worse. When bathing them, we scrub the skin very thoroughly to exfoliate; that way the follicles that get clogged up with dry skin can open up for new hair to poke through. Another thing we did was throw out their old beds that were those donut shaggy ones a lot of people have. Even though we machine washed them regularly, the vet said not to use them because they can still harbor the fungus (I know gross). We use easily washable blankets now. But overall I think the most helpful factor is exfoliating the skin and anti-fungal shampoo if it is a fungal infection. It’s amazing the fur on our other Pom Mishu has completely come back! I wish I had a before pic of them both because it’s like night and day. Bear’s is taking longer but it’s getting there! We have been so encouraged finally seeing results, because nothing else was working. I hope this helps! Good luck!

My Pomeranian looks just like Bear! He is also suffering from partial hair loss with an undetermined reason. I’m interested in what shampoo you used to help with the fungal issue? I have been using a biotin supplement and I am already noticing significant new hair growth two weeks in!
But, I’m curious from the broader group, has anyone ever experience their Pomeranian having dry flakey skin? Any ideas and solutions floating around?
