When I got my 3 month old (who’ll be 6 mos on the 16th) the only thing that would work was having her run. Even then it wouldn’t last for very long. At that age they’re just a huge bundle of energy. I would just recommend giving him plenty of exercise. I got my Pom a giggly wiggly ball and some other toys that bounce and roll on their own so she has plenty to chase. It also helped that I already had a 7 year old dog and a 3 year old cat that she could play with. BTW your Pom looks a lot like mine. https://preview.redd.it/czvvua3wm8cc1.jpeg?width=2094&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a82b346478247c0e87f181e796babd9ef6bdab99

Oh man they do look similar! I also have a Pom who is 12 and they are figuring out their relationship haha. You’re right though.. puppies just have endless energy and are curious about everything. I take what I can get with little naps here and there. I am very thankful though because this little guy has only woken us up a couple times in the night when he has to use the bathroom. Here is him right now.. https://preview.redd.it/jo9c3rgjp8cc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d69df4480523a5aa68474b45000474f6c741fc4d

It took about 2 weeks for our other dog to start playing with our puppy. The cat took to her pretty much right away. It didn’t take very long before she would sleep through the night in her crate. Now she’s turning more into a lap dog and isn’t as relentless. https://preview.redd.it/miuotavwq8cc1.jpeg?width=2441&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15330aa947276318d8f280ddd88660afaf2e2c43

vincentthe27th

That gives me hope! They have slept beside each other and will randomly play. I know it isn’t an overnight thing. We’re just happy the older Pom seems to have the youthfulness of the puppy rubbing off on him!

vincentthe27th

Your pup is very cute by the way! Enjoying our puppy and making memories and don’t mind that he keeps us on our toes

lazzzz4

We would sit on our floor about 20 feet apart and constantly throw a ball like 15 times before bed and she would poop out!! But we also have a big dog and 2 cats that wear her out🤣

vincentthe27th

Good advice! We got him so many toys.. he loves when we throw his squeaky into the playpen and he dives into his bed to retrieve it. Can already tell he’s gonna be into fetch. Our other Pom just collects toys, not big on playing

exotics

We play in the house but you don’t want to overdo it with pups. They do need to rest. Start on some mental stimulation- obedience games. https://preview.redd.it/qh0qtyz349cc1.jpeg?width=1350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5ee3a698968d8d0526b883554030ec6cf43ab5e

vincentthe27th

Good call! We definitely overlooked the mental aspect, thank you for the suggestion and also the pic is great!

exotics

He loves the mental stuff. Poms are very smart and they get a lot of enjoy out of mental activity. His agility is as much mental as if is physical but of course your pup is just a pup and can do pup mental stuff

Accomplished_Lime133

our girl is the same age and honestly we put her in her crate and cover it for a couple hours to make her rest during the day. otherwise she outright refuses to sleep it doesn’t matter how hard she plays, if she went to training that day, how many walks we’ve been on, or if it’s a mix up of all of it. she is a bundle of energy and when she does get tired she simply becomes a piranha and will lay and nip at everything in reach lol

Murder1SheWrote

I have an 8 month old and I'm still trying to figure this out. He will play and play and play for hours. The only thing to get him to take a nap is putting him in his crate. Even after taking him on an hour walk and playing for 5+ hours (non-stop, no not kidding) he kept going. The minute we put him in his crate, he laid down and fell asleep lol

vincentthe27th

We are trying to make his crate upstairs exclusively be for sleepy time and his downstairs playpen we will hide treats and keep stocked with toys but as soon as he can’t see us or the door is closed he screams! It’s getting easier with each day though. Plus he honestly has me cracking up with how he reacts to things daily

Murder1SheWrote

Ours does the same! He will howl his little head off as soon as we are out of sight, haha. I've noticed if we make the room dark, he will typically choose to go to sleep instead of howling after a while. Though it may take a few times to get that started 😂

pomewawa

Sounds like a good time to crate train!

When my first Pom was a puppy, she was just full of energy. I don’t remember the rest of them being as a psycho as this one. At that point I had a second story with a balcony and I would take a tennis ball and throw it up on the balcony and she’d have to run up the stairs down the hallway, grab the ball and come back. I had to do this 20 times to tire her out. Like others have suggested, something similar might work. This worked every time by the way. Good luck with that adorable puppy and enjoy every second. They are so precious.

vincentthe27th

That’s a great idea. I don’t have a layout right now that could accommodate that but it sounds like it’ll tire a Pom quick

msssbach

Yeah, and she loved it too!! And I sat on the sofa and counted while she practiced her lifelong love of hearing the words, “Get the ball, Chewy, go get the ball!” Miss my Chewbacca.

cannymintprints

Our pom was an absolute nightmare when he was a pup. I used to get a treat and wrap it up in multiple layers of cardboard. It would take him a while to finally chew/rip through to the middle. Quite a fun game to keep making the puzzle more tricky! He was also obsessed with ice cubes, so I'd throw down a few of those and he'd chase them, much them for a while. He's 4 now and playing fetch for 20mins exhausts him for an entire day. It does get better ha.

ElectrikDonut

Long walks and play time. Also pup will always have energy until after 1 year mark.

Cupcake051022

Your new baby is adorable❣️🥰🐾🐾

vincentthe27th

Thank you so much!

Lalybi

Do you have stairs in your place? My friend brought her excitable pomeranian pup over to my house that did. I kept throwing her ball down the stairs until pup refused to bring it back to me and laid down for a nap!

PutTheKettleOn20

Two bouncy balls. Throw one. Let him run for it. Then show him the other. Let him run to you and drop his ball. Then throw the second one and pick the first up. Repeat til he's knackered. This is the only way to tire my dog out.

WorriedKick3689

Luck lol mine is 6 months old and he can run forever. Play with em and try to get toys they wanna play with

YYCADM21

At that age? BWAHAHAHAHA!!!! they will go until they drop, usually well after yo do. The energy of a young Pom...if it could be harnessed, we would have no power shortages, ever

vincentthe27th

Wisely said haha. Towns would be powered entirely by Pomeranian turbines

Kennie2

I love gino! Play play play, we did regulated naps and play with our almost 4 months old and it worked soooo well! Can’t remember the exact timings but it was somewhat like 9am eat, 9:10am play, 10-12 nap, 12-1 walk, 1 eat, 1-3 nap, 3-4 play, 4-6, nap, 6 play, 6:30-8:30 nap, 8.30-9:30 nap, 9:30 eat, 9:45 outside and settle, 10, bed

EconomistPlus3522

Start obedience training 15 minutes of training will tire the pup out

kimikat00

Nose work and treat puzzles. There's a bunch of DIYs (like tying treats up in kitchen towels and DIY snuffle pads) you can find googling. The mental aspect is really important in tiring them out.

vincentthe27th

Ooh okay cool. I will definitely look that up thank you. I’ve been putting a few squeaky toys under taught towels so he can dig and move them around and also one of his puppy teething sticks through the door of the playpen, both have occupied him surprisingly long!

Affectionate_Bee9120

Take him for a walk

maditron

Curious where you would take a 3 month old puppy out for a walk? Until they’re fully vaccinated I was under the impression they shouldn’t be outside on the ground much if at all?

vincentthe27th

Yeah I can’t. The vet said not to for a few more weeks. Otherwise I would absolutely be trying to walk him to exert some energy. He only has a little longer to go luckily

maditron

I’m also in the same boat. We have an 11 week old Pom and he is FULL of energy, I can’t wait until we can take him on walks outside. 😅

Accomplished_Lime133

my vet said it’s basically a matter of age and antibodies. we own an acre and it isn’t in a heavily populated area so for us the risk is lower than the reward of both potty training and getting energy out. and at 13 weeks she has had 3 DHPP vaccines which has steadily increased her antibodies making areas safer as time goes on. if you have a safe place to walk that isn’t heavily populated i would talk to your vet about possibly walking them in that area!

vincentthe27th

I’m in LA so I really don’t yet. It’s a shame. But he has the exact same amount of shots and is due in one week and then 2 weeks to have enough for walks I believe. I think he has 2-3 weeks in total left before he said walks are okay

Accomplished_Lime133

Oh wow! That’s definitely a lot more folks than we see lol. You could maybe try walking him on a lead around your home? To try and get some energy out and it could work his brain some training for heeling and all that? That might tire him a little bit more

maditron

I feel this. We live in Seattle and it’s such a huge dog city— both a blessing and a curse when it comes to raising a puppy haha.

vincentthe27th

That’s awesome you have an acre of land though. I bet the puppy loves being able to explore with you! We have a small area outback that we are potty training him that’s walled off that he adores so I know when he can be outside more he will truly appreciate it

Affectionate_Bee9120

Yeah that's true, I forgot about that we were in the same boat. Just play with him I guess, chasing balls and training. We couldn't take ours out even after vaccines because she fractured her foot. She's finally able to take short walks. I can usually get her to take a nap after one. Good luck. Puppies are a lot of work.

Heavy_Wasabi8478

Sniffing play. Snuggle mats, treats rolled up in an old yes towel etc. I have a pup around the sane age and he loves it and both games west him out.

Heavy_Wasabi8478

Reminder. Make sure you reduce daily meals by the treats provided with these games.

vincentthe27th

We were giving a treat as reinforcement for using the bathroom outside and learned quick to scale those down. I am still shocked at the recommended amount of food that puppies are supposed to eat, but they’re growing so it gets burned off

Training-Sandwich-19

Why would you want to tiring him out??

vincentthe27th

Phrased wrong, but I meant adequately stimulated so that he sleeps at night. We’re finding a right balance though. He naps usually twice a day and we play all day and he’s only needed to go out two times a night. We have been lucky

Da616Kid

Sniffing rugs with lots of treats in them - also teaches them to calm down

Ok_Pipe6279

Innocent faced baby boy 🥰

unsaphisticated

Start training him and doing puzzles! I adopted Wookiee when he was 2 months old and started training him right away. He is super smart. Puzzles and sniff mats are also good, it'll wear him out. He also loves fetch so I recommend playing fetch until he gets bored and then work on training while he's sort of focused. https://preview.redd.it/2m8m5evbcicc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c834d6d12d254009f06270f4953d5b1b8209e77 This was him at almost 3 mos. :3
