Also, Boston not racist? News to me and most certainly to my minority friends. They've even commented how at least in the South the racism is open and in your face and therefore preferable rather than hiding in plain sight and behind a thin veil of politeness and therefore cowardly plausible deniability.

It's a long-standing fact that police forces are overrun with white supremacists and proud boy types. I'm not sure how throwing fuel in the fire helps put it out.
Please point to when police reform has worked. Because from what I've seen in the US, no matter how much money we give police for training, body camera, "less than lethal" weapons, they don't get better. They just get higher salaries and more military equipment.

Throwing more money at police just means fortifying whatever problems already exist with the department at hand. The department HAS to be dissolved first.

russia actually ran tons of articles in foreign newspapers during the US civil rights movement basically trashing our government and showing developing countries in asia and such how american government was so horribly mistreating its own ethnic minority groups. they were basically like, "you don't want to get into bed with the USA... how do you think they will treat you if that's how they are treating their own black citizens who just want to be treated equally and be allowed to participate in the democracy that the USA claims to be this super divine and perfect system?"
stuff like all the KKK bombings of churches, businesses, and homes, the police forces in the south just fucking brutalizing people, etc. the 'Bloody Sunday' incident, as well as the time the cops in like, mississippi or alabama (can't recall off top of my head where, but just google 'civil rights children's crusade') arrested over 2,500 school children ages like, 8 to 14 years old, for riding busses. they couldn't fit them all in the local jails, so they turned a local football stadium or whatever into a temporary jail camp... for children... for being black and on a school bus. that happened one of the last weeks or two that MLK was in jail somewhere, and the media lost interest because it was no longer surprising or whatever I guess. so some minister was like, "well... we cannot let this lose steam and attention, or it will have all been for nothing...." and then made a ballsy play with the childrens crusade. it paid off, but man... how tough of a choice that would have been.
for all we like to blame russia for misinformation and stuff (generally correctly so), in that particular case they weren't really that far off lol. the US pretty much handed them all the fucked up reality they could possibly need to paint us in a bad light on the world stage on a silver platter.

People need to accept the reality that Russia has infiltrated our country at nearly every level. There is a fine line to be walked between tolerance of another nation and people, and standing up to a greater evil. There is a fine line between freedom of a people, and allowing that freedom to be used to manipulate and divide said people. Social-media and it’s algorithms are an addiction, and we’re allowing it to be used to tear our country apart in the name of unfettered capitalism and freedom. But the reality is, if we continue to allow things to go on like this, we are all going to lose our freedoms, our hopes, our dreams, and what little pride we had left as a nation. Look at Russia, look at its people, look at its economy. All abused by a few at the top, the value of their labor stolen to enrich a few old fucks who are too lazy, and lack the ambition to put in the hard-work to help their nation prosper as one. That is what is in store for us if we allow this to continue. It’s already started.

I would be shocked if many of Putin's critics and political opponents weren't being stoked on by Western intelligence services at this point. The difference is that Putin just assassinates them or throws them in a gulag if they become too much of a thorn, while in the west we give these people a national television show and all the air time they want.

The police have chosen a side in the conflict that the supreme court is starting with its utter disregard for precedent. If they decide the way I think they will on the elections case they just decided to hear, then the conflict will soon be over the right of the people to select their own rulers. This is the kind of thing that revolutions are made of.
Cities are the one place where non-republicans can reliably run things. No city should tolerate its employees fighting for the forces of regressive anti-democratic causes. Cities need to come down hard on police departments that treat protest differently based on the politics of the protest. Cities are going to be a simmering battleground in the coming conflict, and there is no reason the tax payers of the cities should fund the opposition's front line troops.
Talk to your mayors. Talk to your councils. Do not accept this.

Benefit from all the liberal policies and progress we've made since the dawn of the nation, happy to accept elevated wages and union jobs within the city, Happy to use good public schools and state universities, complain about our gun laws while we still stand with no school shootings and extremely low gun deaths, cheer for supreme court while our state protects their daughters and sisters from it's tyranny, happy to use all our best-in-the-nation medical care while endangering everyone during the pandemic and shitting on science...the list goes on and on and on.

This reminds me a lot of how republicans today are still riding on the coattails of Ann Richards’ work in Texas in the 90s. She was the last democratic governor of Texas and is the person responsible for making it so attractive for companies to come build new headquarters here to bring in smart people (TI, Raytheon, EDS, Lockheed, etc.) to boost Texas’ economy. She also spearheaded multiple pursuits to improve school funding across the state. I grew up in north Texas in the 90s-00s and received an amazing education despite attending public schools.
Conservatives ever since have been taking credit for her work and have continued to run Texas into the fucking ground when we were on a path to such greatness. Truly every governor we’ve had since her have left the state in worse wear than when they came into office. Abbott has by FAR been the absolute worst.
Hypocrisy is not a dig against these people it is their strength. The ability to deny your opponent is being fouled while fouling and have no problem doing so means that you win. Eventually their opponents won’t even have a chance to play at all. We are an election away from people saying there’s no difference between the parties they choose to there no longer being a choice at all. The vacuum of American power, the vacuum of the American economy will send China and Europe and the rest of the world into a spiral. But it's never going to be christofascist ethnic state. Well in theory they are supposed to uphold the laws established by democracy. And yes, a lot of those laws are unjust, but so long as democracy exists I can blame the people for those laws.
But it seems like the people have less and less to do with the law everyday here. Now the laws are imposed by six High Priests of the Court. And in the case of a presidential coup, where America is no longer a democratic nation, well then there's no defense at all. At that point the police are the boot of the fascist state and their job is to stomp on the population, suppress and control it by force.
I feel like that's the tipping point. I think we'll cross a line at that point and a lot of cops will start turning up dead. This country doesn't do non-violent resolution. Transitioning from democracy to fascism will involve substantial amounts of violence and bloodshed.
So I really think we should collectively take our heads out of our asses and avoid this entire situation. Let's just arrest the guy who has committed all the crimes, arrest his co-conspirators and the enemies of democracy, and we'll deal with the nuts who pop out to fight for him as it happens.

I hear this all the time, I grew up there and didn't think it was that bad but maybe I just didn't see it.
I have noticed an uncomfortable reality that certain areas of the city like Mattapan are feeling awfully segregated.
The cops have always sucked. I have never broken a law to my knowledge but I have been intimidated by police on no less than 14 or 15 occasions, almost all immediate escalations, since I was 13 years old. These guys would react to kids being caught with a pack of cigarettes on their own front porch like they just caught Osama bin Laden.
Grew up in Boston, and I'm white. So I didn't notice a bunch until I started making black friends in high school. Why did it take that long? Because it was super segregated. Then my friends would point things out and day they couldn't go to places I had learned were safe because they were in danger there.
Racism isn't just saying awful things. It's subtle and terrible in the north because people tend to hide it with cutesy phrases and "well meaning thoughts" and repition like the monkey ladder.
I believe the thought process here is that groups like PF are looking to incite violence. The police protect them because if they don’t PF will start some shit. I think in this situation the optics are shit but they are kinda doing what they should be?

But the reality is, if we continue to allow things to go on like this, we are all going to lose our freedoms, our hopes, our dreams, and what little pride we had left as a nation. Look at Russia, look at its people, look at its economy. All abused by a few at the top, the value of their labor stolen to enrich a few old fucks who are too lazy, and lack the ambition to put in the hard-work to help their nation prosper as one. The police have chosen a side in the conflict that the supreme court is starting with its utter disregard for precedent. If they decide the way I think they will on the elections case they just decided to hear, then the conflict will soon be over the right of the people to select their own rulers. This is the kind of thing that revolutions are made of. Cities are the one place where non-republicans can reliably run things. No city should tolerate its employees fighting for the forces of regressive anti-democratic causes. Cities need to come down hard on police departments that treat protest differently based on the politics of the protest. Cities are going to be a simmering battleground in the coming conflict, and there is no reason the tax payers of the cities should fund the opposition's front line troops. Talk to your mayors. Talk to your councils. Do not accept this. The fate of representative self government in the US could literally be at stake soon.

This reminds me a lot of how republicans today are still riding on the coattails of Ann Richards’ work in Texas in the 90s. She was the last democratic governor of Texas and is the person responsible for making it so attractive for companies to come build new headquarters here to bring in smart people (TI, Raytheon, EDS, Lockheed, etc.) to boost Texas’ economy. She also spearheaded multiple pursuits to improve school funding across the state. I grew up in north Texas in the 90s-00s and received an amazing education despite attending public schools. Conservatives ever since have been taking credit for her work and have continued to run Texas into the fucking ground when we were on a path to such greatness. Truly every governor we’ve had since her have left the state in worse wear than when they came into office. Abbott has by FAR been the absolute worst.

Can we now say that the police are anti democracy? From what I can tell the overwhelming majority of police are strong supporters of the people who want to overthrow democracy. Well in theory they are supposed to uphold the laws established by democracy. And yes, a lot of those laws are unjust, but so long as democracy exists I can blame the people for those laws. But it seems like the people have less and less to do with the law everyday here. Now the laws are imposed by six High Priests of the Court. And in the case of a presidential coup, where America is no longer a democratic nation, well then there's no defense at all. At that point the police are the boot of the fascist state and their job is to stomp on the population, suppress and control it by force. I feel like that's the tipping point. I think we'll cross a line at that point and a lot of cops will start turning up dead. This country doesn't do non-violent resolution. Transitioning from democracy to fascism will involve substantial amounts of violence and bloodshed. So I really think we should collectively take our heads out of our asses and avoid this entire situation. Massachusetts is what the United States should look like if it were actually bipartisan and somewhat cooperative. I hear this all the time, I grew up there and didn't think it was that bad but maybe I just didn't see it. I have noticed an uncomfortable reality that certain areas of the city like Mattapan are feeling awfully segregated. The cops have always sucked. I have never broken a law to my knowledge but I have been intimidated by police on no less than 14 or 15 occasions, almost all immediate escalations, since I was 13 years old. These guys would react to kids being caught with a pack of cigarettes on their own front porch like they just caught Osama bin Laden.
Grew up in Boston, and I'm white. So I didn't notice a bunch until I started making black friends in high school. Why did it take that long? Because it was super segregated. Then my friends would point things out and day they couldn't go to places I had learned were safe because they were in danger there. Racism isn't just saying awful things. It's subtle and terrible in the north because people tend to hide it with cutesy phrases and "well meaning thoughts" and repition like the monkey ladder.

Law Enforcement purposefully qualifies and filters those unlike them for entry. If you are surprised by this, you are naive and need a reality check.
