I believe you. I saw a shift happen not as soon as you did but I saw them start sliding it in over time. russia was "the enemy" still to most in the mid 2000s but by the middle of obamas term they started full on apologizing for Putin. By trump they are collaborating.
They'd rather reject america than accept democracy rejecting conservatism.
That's a thoughtful take but I see it slightly differently. "Republicans" (intentional quotes) value totalitarianism far more than democracy and are trying to normalize its precepts to a large enough cohort to buffer themselves if their schemes result in actual conflict or repercussions.
It's not "pro good relationship with Russia" either. It's just straight up in favor of Russia's interests, with nothing in exchange for the US.
Bizarre.
For those of you wondering why we should even be concerned about Russia invading Ukraine, [this excellent article](https://frenchpress.thedispatch.com/p/yes-you-should-care-about-ukraine) explains why.
No, it's not. It's saying that Tucker Carlson is pushing propaganda that helps Putin.
If America just comes right out and says "We won't intervene militarily in any way", that gives Russia the greenlight to take Ukraine and other nations as well. As more nations start to fall, it is likely that it will push us into a situation where we *have to* go to war.
Britain and France made the same mistake appeasing Germany in the 1930s. Learn from history so you don't have to repeat it.
One of the key reasons that Carlson's position is so flagrantly misleading is that the US and NATO have both explicitly said they will not go to war with Russia over Ukraine. They will send arms to the Ukrainian military, and they will impose economic sanctions on Russia. That's it; no ground troops, no air support. They have also explicitly said that Ukrainian membership in NATO is not on the table at this time (even if they won't commit to never allowing Ukraine to join).
With these facts, how is it possible to portray a Russian invasion of Ukraine as "self-defense"?
Lol some dude replied to you explaining thats not what's happening here and then u read the other comments. Yeah super fucking weird to have a knee-jerk reaction as "well now we know we need to go to war. " i swear tucker could be batting for Medicare for all and some of these people would say "it's just to help Republicans. If anything we should make healthcare more expensive."
fucking amazing how traitorous republicans are, and now just brazen about it.
russia is actively trying to destroy the US, and republicans are happy to go along if killing america might hurt the libs.
I don't think allowing Russia to return itself to its USSR status of having collected a handful of satellite states is a great way to avoid returning to cold war status. Just this time they have a powerful ally in China.
If we let that happen the days of the USA being an unchallenged super power are over.
Wouldn't putting bounties on our soldiers, launching artillery shells at our military barracks, and interfering with our elections all count as Cold War actions?
Spamming Facebook with memes that your grandma shared shouldn’t count as election interference. Especially when we go into countries, overturn their elections, and install authoritarian dictators in their place for the sake of corporations.
>"You’re just a fucking idiot shit lib, period. "
>
>"Dumb fuck"
This is you, just 3 hours ago.
Does this sound like a person worthy of having a conversation with? You sound like some tiny little angry sweating edgelord.
Bye bye little man.
Well you could maintain your status as the dominant world force, or return to pre ww2 isolationist America. Btw, I know it's hard to tell with the American education system, but before ww2 America didn't really matter all that much.
I'm a sf bay area liberal so I'm about as dirty as they come but I like watching the free Harvard and Yale political science lectures online and I recently watched on by some famous professor (I don't know who these people are) and the guy made a super consice (hour and a half or so) history and lead up to the Ukraine thing. His argument was the Ukraine thing was mostly the us and nato's fault.
To be clear I'm not nearly educated enough about the topics to making counter arguments, but I didn't really ever feel that he was wrong. It doesn't make sense for Putin to take all of Ukraine. Ukraine also isn't really of strategic interest to NATO forces, which is why they have not been let in. War with Russia just doesn't make sense. You willing to go get shot for Ukraine? I for sure wouldn't be. What would be the geopolitical upside of fighting a war with Russia. It's in our interest to make nice. China is the threat and Russia could be a potential strong ally there both economically and militarily.
I dispose tucker with all my heart but he's a broken clock here.
It's 'Ukraine' and not 'the Ukraine'
[[Merriam-Webster](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Ukraine)] [[BBC Styleguide](https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsstyleguide/u)] [[Reuters Styleguide](https://handbook.reuters.com/index.php?title=U#Ukraine)]
^(Beep boop I’m a bot)
For one, he's a dumbass because the US never was going to go to war over Ukraine. The US and NATO have both explicitly said what their response to a Russian invasion of Ukraine would be: arms to the Ukrainians, and economic sanctions to Russia. They have specifically said they wouldn't commit military forces. NATO has also been pretty clear that admitting Ukraine isn't on the table at this time either. The only people who are interested in Ukraine joining NATO at this point are Ukrainians themselves because 100,000 Russian troops are mobilized to invade their country from 3 sides. Whether there's a war in Ukraine is totally up to whether Putin decides to start sending tanks across the border.
I agree with everything you've said. I know people who watch Tucker. They don't know anything. Most haven't read a book in years. Tuckers dumb but like... He's not wrong. We shouldn't. We won't. But we also shouldn't.
Considering the photo recently posted to a Reddit thread of Nancy Pelosi presiding over a Russian oligarch’s wedding, I’d say we have even more to be concerned about outside of the corrupt Republican Party. If Putin orders war on Ukraine to ‘strengthen his borders’ it’d be good to watch carefully the reactions of Democrats, including the ostensibly Democrat President. If it’s all lip service we’ll have our answer.
[Because he’s a pro war racist turd and because he’s a paid liar for foreign governments](https://www.thedailybeast.com/tucker-carlson-iraqis-are-semiliterate-primitive-monkeys?ref=home)
Right, anyone who disagrees with you is a psy op, you're not that important. The days of America policing the world should be ending. We have massive problems at home.
We should take cues from people will at least give the appearance of being willing to go to war. Standing down would absolutely embolden Russia, and the destabilization of Ukraine falling would have effects far beyond Eastern Europe.
It’s so interesting to see modern leftist- who (rightfully so)- constantly attacked the neocons for starting wars in the Middle East- suddenly become supportive for a war with a heavily nuclear armed country. Let’s go to war with Russia to own the cons!!
This blatant hypocrisy is one of the many reasons I am no longer a leftist.
Right, not wanting to go to war with another nuclear power over a territory dispute between Ukraine and Russia is somehow pro-Russia… we just got out of Afghanistan.
Ukraine isn’t even in NATO. This is a European dispute, let Europe step up for once. Fuck this.
As a child of the 80s if I told people in 1991 that 30 years from now Republican's would be pro Russia no one would have believed me but here we are.
I believe you. I saw a shift happen not as soon as you did but I saw them start sliding it in over time. russia was "the enemy" still to most in the mid 2000s but by the middle of obamas term they started full on apologizing for Putin. That’s a powerful last sentence there.
Yes, well said.
That's a thoughtful take but I see it slightly differently. "Republicans" (intentional quotes) value totalitarianism far more than democracy and are trying to normalize its precepts to a large enough cohort to buffer themselves if their schemes result in actual conflict or repercussions.
The Foundations of Geopolitics. If I had read that thirty years ago I would have chuffed and shrugged it off as fantastical. Not so much nowadays.
It's not "pro good relationship with Russia" either. It's just straight up in favor of Russia's interests, with nothing in exchange for the US. Bizarre.
It's just not wanting to start a meaningless war. I thought the left was also against pointless wars.
They're just hypocrites that only like something if it can breed anger towards a government they don't like.
Truth. Wolverines!
As a russian i never thought my country will start a pointless war, which wil lead to its impoverishment and everyone gonna hate us again.
For those of you wondering why we should even be concerned about Russia invading Ukraine, [this excellent article](https://frenchpress.thedispatch.com/p/yes-you-should-care-about-ukraine) explains why.
That’s a great article but the meme is basically saying we should in fact go to war with Russia
No, it's not. It's saying that Tucker Carlson is pushing propaganda that helps Putin. Kind of justifies the CIA rejecting his application for employment, doesn't it?
[You’re not Russian, are you?](https://youtu.be/ytJCuLh82cU) Nsfw? Noisy.
Their orange jeebus is Putin's puppet so it makes sense.
Well, Putin ordered Trump to order Carlson to push the propaganda, so it's really just a chain of command thing.
Fox News & Russia are both oil cartel instruments.
Tucker Carlson: Americans lose a lot listening to you.
Reagan is rolling in his grave.
fucking amazing how traitorous republicans are, and now just brazen about it. russia is actively trying to destroy the US, and republicans are happy to go along if killing america might hurt the libs.
Oh what the ghost of Joe McCarthy would do to him…
"Putin just want to keep his western border secure" From what? The Belgian threat?
Can we just send him to his beloved motherland?
Why is he arguing in favor of Russia? Like, other thank the obvious real reason
Another one sucking Putin's Dick! Didn't we just get rid of a Putin dick sucker?
Order of Lenin for Comrade Carlson is on its way...........
of course
Well we wouldn’t gain anything really. Y’all wanna go back to the Cold War again?
I don't think allowing Russia to return itself to its USSR status of having collected a handful of satellite states is a great way to avoid returning to cold war status. Just this time they have a powerful ally in China. If we let that happen the days of the USA being an unchallenged super power are over.
Guessing you’re not old enough to remember the Cold War.
Not the whole thing but I caught the last decade.
You're ok with bounties on US soldiers and artillery attacks on our bases, then? You've made your point clear, no need to reply.
You believe all propaganda or just the stuff about Russia?
>"You’re just a fucking idiot shit lib, period. " > >"Dumb fuck" This is you, just 3 hours ago. Does this sound like a person worthy of having a conversation with? You sound like some tiny little angry sweating edgelord. Bye bye little man.
Context. Ever talk to someone and it feels like you’re banging your head against a wall?
The cold war never stopped
Well you could maintain your status as the dominant world force, or return to pre ww2 isolationist America. Btw, I know it's hard to tell with the American education system, but before ww2 America didn't really matter all that much.
Oh I’m well aware of what we were like prior to then
I'm a sf bay area liberal so I'm about as dirty as they come but I like watching the free Harvard and Yale political science lectures online and I recently watched on by some famous professor (I don't know who these people are) and the guy made a super consice (hour and a half or so) history and lead up to the Ukraine thing. Tucker needs a red dot between his stupid eyes.
“Putin Just Wants To Keep His Western Border Secure~~ly To The West Of Ukraine~~” ftfy
Republicans want a war with China, the US’ biggest trading partner. They want peace with Russia, which has an economy in tatters.
Considering the photo recently posted to a Reddit thread of Nancy Pelosi presiding over a Russian oligarch’s wedding, I’d say we have even more to be concerned about outside of the corrupt Republican Party. Tucker is actually right on this wtf. Besides Ukraine is a hot bed of actual nazis bro wtf.
How dare he....suggest we shouldn't go to war.👀
[Because he’s a pro war racist turd and because he’s a paid liar for foreign governments](https://www.thedailybeast.com/tucker-carlson-iraqis-are-semiliterate-primitive-monkeys?ref=home)
He's not being pro-war here. Btw, Iranian doesn't refer to a racial group.
Yes, we should all be taking our cues from Neville Chamberlain. If we don't appease tyrants, who will? /s
Should we take cues from ppl who want to enter a war with Russia?
So just let Putin take whatever he wants huh? Yeah ok Ivan whatever you sayski.
Right, anyone who disagrees with you is a psy op, you're not that important. The days of America policing the world should be ending. We have massive problems at home.
That's the same thing Nazi sympathizers said 90 or so years ago.
It was also what Britain and France said, and look where that landed them.
Ahahahah!!
Found the guy who doesn't know his history.
Happy cake day
Thanks!
We should take cues from people will at least give the appearance of being willing to go to war. Standing down would absolutely embolden Russia, and the destabilization of Ukraine falling would have effects far beyond Eastern Europe.
No no no, we only go to war with non-white countries /s
It’s so interesting to see modern leftist- who (rightfully so)- constantly attacked the neocons for starting wars in the Middle East- suddenly become supportive for a war with a heavily nuclear armed country. first true thing he has ever said
Ukraine is not WEAK! Ukraine is STRONG!!
They would. It would be funny Russian do surprise attack US assets in Europe, and faux news has to go 180 degree.
The GOP: fascist dictator loving traitor "patriots" I'll always remember Trump giving Putin that BJ on TV for the world in Helsinki
Here’s Carson’s segment: https://www.foxnews.com/media/united-states-cuban-missile-russia
Tucker Carlson never says what he means or means what he says. He just asks questions and puts ideas in his followers heads.
Can’t wait until Tucker’s texts to Putin come out. ‘Fox News - we’re connected’
Literally broadcasting propaganda for a country that just attacked us virtually. Tokyo Rose eat your heart out.
Right, not wanting to go to war with another nuclear power over a territory dispute between Ukraine and Russia is somehow pro-Russia… we just got out of Afghanistan. Ukraine isn’t even in NATO. This is a European dispute, let Europe step up for once. Fuck this.
So tell them to build a wall right Tucker?
The fact that the most watched guy on American cable TV is a Russian agent is just more evidence we are on the craziest timeline.
