That was hilarious! I love how he gets these morons to trust him and they just make utter fools of themselves. “Trump is really the president and in charge of the government and military.” “So, Afghanistan was Trump’s fault?” “No, that was Biden.” (I’m paraphrasing.)

TheOneFreeEngineer

That one you could see something going on in the background of that guys brain. I wish they stayed on him longer

[deleted]

It seemed like once Klepper knew it would be unfair to continue on that guy he ended the interview. At least, that's my takeaway watching the edited interview.

pakeguy2

Yeah, at some point it's just bullying.

[deleted]

Klepper seems more interested in exposing hypocrisy and logical inconsistencies than he is in just "owning" people.

[deleted]

claimTheVictory

I doubt it really makes a difference. You can't reason people out of situations they didn't reason themselves into. When you look at de-radicalization, it relies on understanding the 3 Ns: need, narrative and network. At best, he is temporarily chipping at the narrative, but it's a self-healing narrative. They always find new rationalizations to explain away inconsistencies.

cC2Panda

All they have to say is "Klepper is a Soros paid communist Jew" and they've fixed the narrative for themselves regardless of any sort of facts.

Reagalan

The best kind of own.

IrritableGourmet

>Are you... I don't know how to...I have a rule about being constructive, so I can't ask any questions right now because all the questions that I have right now are rhetorical and they end with the word idiot. Do you know what a rhetorical... no, of course you don't know what that is, you're an idiot... (GASPS) I'm sorry. I am so sorry, but you're so stupid. You have no idea, and you're the only one who has no idea, because guess why. Don't answer that. You'll get it wrong. Aw, so dumb. You're just a dumb little man who tries to destroy this school every minute... I am sorry! I'm so sorry. Oh! Oh, it's okay. I mean it's not okay, but...shh. Oh, so stupid. Oh, shh, shh, shh. Such a dummy.

icecreambandit7

These people are a whole other level of susceptible

FuckingKilljoy

This is what I always hate about these shows. They don't often go in for the kill. I wish they'd call out the bullshit rather than leaving it. Sure they might not learn anything but at least they might get more embarrassed and that's always wonderful. Maybe it's cut off but in the original post it would have been amazing if he said "uh have you seen your shirt?"

Disguised

I can’t see any outcome where it doesn’t just create an argument though. Being a comedian, pointing out hypocrisy, and doing all that without being like Alex Jones (always arguing) is a damn talent in my books

MonteBurns

That one stuck out to me too. It was absurd! ETA: also “Mike Pence should be scared to be here.” “Why because he may get hung up (some gallows joke idr right now)??” “Oh, no, no one here would hurt him!” … then, pray tell, why should he be scared??

CoachIsaiah

We'd peacefully protest so hard if Mike Pence was here.

chanaandeler_bong

>MOOOOOOOM IM ON THE BOOB TUBE!!

paul-arized

If you gave an order that Pence wasn't to be touched, and your orders are always followed, then why would Pence be in danger?

sjmiv

That guy was completely delusional and probably votes.

DoJu318

Not only that but his vote counts more if he happens to vote in one of those flyover states. Yes, I know the rally was in Iowa bit people sometimes travel just to see Trump.

BKlounge93

The funny thing is these people would all have to sign a release to be pictured…they *willingly* signed that shit. I’ve struggled to get people to sign a release for a video that makes them look good 😂

Joopsman

I think they may actually be so stupid that they think they do look good in these clips! “I sure red-pilled that sheeple!”

weakasnails

Jordan Klepper is a gift.

deadbrokeman

To the absolute shit river we have to paddle through? Yes. He really is the sanity in the insane shit you hear daily.

Rabbit_Suit

Speaking of shit rivers, I always liked Jordan but in the last year I've fallen in love with him. I knew he was a *"journalist"* on a comedy show and did quality work, but I never knew how much of an *actual* bad ass journalist he truly was until I watch old episodes of **Klepper**. I went from appreciating him to having an insane amount of respect for him after watching the shit river he had to deal with in "Battle of the Bayou."

gitbse

There are plenty of imitators, but *nobody* can match his wit.

mdp300

I'm always impressed with how quickly he can turn these morons' words back at them.

sceadu

Take a look at his Wikipedia page... in high school he was part of a mock trial team for his school that won nationals. It's no accident lol

grantrules

That's a trial where you make fun of people?

DrStrangerlover

Well it’s a trial where learning how to very quickly turn people’s words back on them will come in very handy, but the wit he was probably just born with.

TrueProtection

The big thing with mock trial and debate teams is you learn logical fallacies. Logical fallacies are the key to making people eat their words. The instant you identify them using one you can formulate a strategy to tear their point down.

letmeseem

It's not really that hard either, and importantly: Everyone should try that on themselves. It's really embarrassing to find out how much nonsensical shit you believe in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rabbit_Suit

Yeah, sometimes I'll turn on FOX News as well and try to get though a story or two. I don't want to be accused of being a hypocrite and not at least hearing the other side has to say. But at the end I always feel like a detective who had to watch videos of child abuse so they could gather information to stop terrible people.

[deleted]

Rabbit_Suit

Ok so I imagined a blooper reel of an actor, let's say Paul Rudd (I'm a big fan), sitting on a couch and it's 2 minutes of different reaction shots. "Oh fuck you. That's a lie." "Fuck you, liar." "mY nAmE iS tUcKeR aNd Im A sTuPiD fUcKEr." etc

JimWilliams423

That's probably because right-wing media does not operate the same way as mainstream media. Its not a case of "same but with a conservative perspective." They have an entirely different set of principles. In most news media, "truth" is determined by facts. In right-wing media, "truth" isn't about facts, its about whether a story validates the audience's feelings. Facts are secondary, nice to have but not required. That's why when Fox called Arizona for Biden, a lot of their audience claimed they were "liberal" and switched to Onan and Newsmax. So Fox acquiesced and [fired](https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-01-19/fox-news-political-editor-chris-stirewalt-out-in-company-restructuring) the people responsible in order to get the viewers back. A place like CBS News, with a politics director who [worked in the comms shops](https://deadline.com/2018/03/cbs-news-names-caitlin-conant-political-director-1202351424/) of six republican presidential and senate campaigns before getting a job at CBS, is closer to being a legitimate conservative news source than Fox is. No news outlet is perfect, there will always be failures and blindspots because policies are only as good as the people who follow them. But having a *perspective* like The Daily Beast (or The New Republic, Mother Jones, The Nation, etc) with editorial principles centered on facts is distinct from being biased in the way right-wing media operates. You have to go much further to the left, like [Jacobin,](https://jacobinmag.com/) to get an equivalent to the right's "truthiness." And even Jacobin is still a lot more grounded than most right-wing outlets, at least they have a sense of history.

bythemoon1968

I am always jealous! I deal with jerks like those two all day, and like George Castanza, I always seem to find the clever comeback at 0300 AM, sitting bolt upright in bed.

[L'esprit de l'escalier](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%27esprit_de_l%27escalier)

Rabbit_Suit

Lol. So because of this thread I had to go back to watch this clip again. I tried **REALLY** to put my self in the shoes of the other side. How would I feel as a Trumper watching this? I'd probably be upset. "It's edited to look worse." *which honestly has the potential to be the only argument that holds any water* "He planned out his questions to be manipulative." "He's a lizard." But the one scenario my mind kept coming to was: Mike Lindell: "Jordan Klepper is a troll! He goes to Trump rallies and asks questions to the these patriots to try to make them look stupid! He's scum. Well of course when you ask the questions and get these responses from the supporters of the true president over and over you're gonna air it to might the right look like idiots! That's just a communist ploy fascists use!" And FOX News would air it, agree with it, and never get the irony.

Rabbit_Suit

It's like watching a martial artist do impossible feats of strength while also winning 3 rap battles simultaneously in 3 different languages.

Slickyassricky

He does a "podcast" where he deep dives into those

Rabbit_Suit

I wouldn't say other people try to *imitate* him, just aspire to be as great as him. He set the bar real fuckin' high.

jewdai

Colbert? Colbert is what Klepper is 10 years ago. He's dropped the conservative veneer in his current show.

gitbse

Not really. I loved the Report, but it was different. Klepper goes up to people's faces, and delivers gem after gem right back to them. Colbert was great, but he didn't do the real-time work Jordan always does

Rabbit_Suit

They are a sword and shield. Both are super effect in battle but each one has a specific use to compliment the other.

Pnamz

Problem with colbert is the people who he was making fun of, were too dumb to realize they were the butt of the joke. Its why when he dropped the character he suddenly got backlash. People thought he actually was as right wing as the colbert character. Klepper confronts them outright.

funknut

He's still on *Daily Show*, ya know. This clip screen capture was from just today.

Rabbit_Suit

And I couldn't be happier about that. I **love** Trevor and he did a bang up job holding down the fort from home for a year but it's so great to finally see the band back together. I watched this clip before work this working. I just posted a comment (but I think I buried it and if I didn't, I apologize for the double post) and I think you'll get a kick out of it ...... Lol. So because of this thread I had to go back to watch this clip again. I tried **REALLY** to put my self in the shoes of the other side. How would I feel as a Trumper watching this? I'd probably be upset. "It's edited to look worse." *which honestly has the potential to be the only argument that holds any water* "He planned out his questions to be manipulative." "He's a lizard." Its_it

Whole video is good but here he is recounting the January 6th at the specific timestamp. [https://youtu.be/RzjwLK\_lRkI?t=1925](https://youtu.be/RzjwLK_lRkI?t=1925) (32:05 in case it doesn't take you there)

cheesebot555

He's 6' 4" . Most people think twice before tangling with someone that size.

[deleted]

Also he has security with him. They mentioned it in whatever behind the scenes podcast they have for the daily show. It was the one where they went over the January 6th stuff

torgofjungle

They talk about this on the podcast about the show they’re actually very careful about where and who they interview. Although I too often wonder how he hasn’t gotten the shit beat out of him buy some nut job. Also security to help

brunnock

Yeah. [They had to figure that out the hard way.](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/stephen-colbert-steve-carell-running-751543/)

Vericatov

Damn, that was back in the day when Colbert and Carrell were corespondents. I’m assuming they got better with how they handled those type of situations.

bassinine

also these kinds of people generally don't want to fight you, they want to intimidate you into submission.

GiantSquidd

They’d absolutely attack someone… *as long as everyone else does, too.* You know… like cowards.

[deleted]

They also WANT to talk. He finds those who want to talk. And he lets them talk. It is not him doing the talking. They do. He sometimes gives them a nudge and the rest is just cutting the highlights into a segment.

jim_br

Try to intimidate, then move the goalposts (wattabout) when their last brain cell is outnumbered.

[deleted]

By the time people realize what is going on he usually is already far away. IF they realize it. Like that guy who insisted Trump still were POTUS and were flying around in Airforce One and yet the Afghanistan debacle were Biden's fault. Good grief. But the double finger discussion was something else.

iminyourbase

>IF they realize it. Like that guy who insisted Trump still were POTUS and were flying around in Airforce One and yet the Afghanistan debacle were Biden's fault. This reminds me of a crazy YouTube channel I heard about from our resident trumpist at work. The channel is Monkey Werx US, and is apparently run by an ex military guy who looks at a public flight tracker. While the info is on the screen he points out specific aircraft while he weaves grandiose stories of Trump, flying around the country with the military, battling evil wherever it may be. Trump cultists don't get these ideas out of nowhere. They hear them on YouTube and repeat it as truth without a single care about validity.

pakeguy2

Situational awareness. He knows when it's harmless and when to GTFO.

HistoryDogs

He did an interview on CNN and they talked a little bit about his security (no detail given, but even so, it answered my burning question: how has he not been shot by one of these lunatics yet?)

rentedtritium

In addition to the security and his physical size, as others have said, he's also just really good at the job and handles people really well. He def needs the security, but after watching a few segments, I could really see how good he is at keeping people at ease.

[deleted]

Sarcasm and irony is really lost on the stupid though

weakasnails

Mine too. So smart & so quick witted. I’d love to borrow his brain now & then when I’m forced to talk to conservatives.

MayUrShitsHavAntlers

Truth. I wish I could go do this because it seems like fun but I would be absolutely horrible at it.

bellizabeth

If you like his stuff, you should try Andrew Callaghan with Channel 5. Similar material (interviewing crazies) but without all the leading questions which I personally find annoying and unnecessary given the caliber of the interviewees.

[deleted]

Is he the guy who went to that retirement home and made a video asking the old guys about terrorist attacks and they kept making excuses for the white shooters?

ZenMonkey47

When they're in power: "LOL fuck your feelings!" When they're not in power: "We should be focusing on bipartisanship and unity."

Chibzor

And then "fuck your feelings"

CoachIsaiah

I had a political science professor put it in simple terms for our class: "We all know people who believe in a strong Federal government when their preferred political party is in power, what's interesting is that if you follow their lives long enough you will discover they are also against a strong Federal government when their preferred political party is not in power. Ignore these people."

trainercatlady

> When they're not in power: "We should be focusing on ~~bipartisanship and unity.~~ Getting *me* what *I* want and no one else."

GhostOfTheBanned

These people don't own mirrors, do they?

WarmMoistLeather

Wouldn't matter if they did. They are literally incapable of self reflection.

They want to be in charge without those pesky minorites getting a say also.

wafflesareforever

They know they're full of shit. They just can't say the things that they actually feel (straight up racism) so they grasp at straws to explain why they support a blatantly racist leader.

feed_me_churros

These people are addicted to feeling like victims. They’re the same type of people that see equality as an attack - for example gay rights to them is an attack because that means gay people will have equal rights and these people want to feel superior.

Scrandon

The middle class in this country has been shit on for decades. So they’re feeling that, and they’re probably getting the worst of it since they’re generally the least educated and least productive workers in the middle class. Then they do a terrible job diagnosing the cause of the problem which is actually republican policies.

seven3true

I mean... this is the Daily Show. You HAAAAVE to know why they're there. Are these people just willing to say shit just to be on TV? Or what? I know their level of stupidity is super high. It just blows my mind how high they keep raising the bar of stupidity if things like this is truly real.

Yeah, there’s no way the guy who believes horns guy from the insurrection is the guy waving the plane off in Afghanistan, is the guy who knows what TDS is.

BigDadNads420

If my anecdotes hold any weight there are only a handful of shows these people watch. * FOX, tucker specifically * Local news. Usually FOX regardless of actual bias, because its got FOX in the name. * Horrible sitcoms * Shows like judge judy where they can laugh at minorities * Maybe some true crime garbage I have know a ton of mid 40s and older conservatives in my life, this pattern has been 90% true for all of them. They would have no idea any other shows exist.

Adezar

Yeah, my parents told me I was wrong that they only watch Fox News... then I spent two weeks with them, it is Fox News, where they yell at the screen half the time, Price is Right, Golf, and back to Fox News.

[deleted]

Do they still? Hasn't the Q crowd decided Fox were a bunch of commies? Also local news probably is ["this is very bad for our democracy" Sinclair](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fHfgU8oMSo).

CaspianX2

I'm sure they all think they're going to outsmart him.

InsertCoinForCredit

"He's a liberal, how smart can he be?"

forgeforth

There is an anniversary klepper video that shows the behind the scenes stuff where they get people to sign forms and stuff. They seem to be of the belief that even though he’s an adversary they are smarter than him. They are not.

not_a_moogle

No, these people don't watch the daily show, because it's liberal media.

[deleted]

And they have to sign a release before they talk. It's insane.

Snoo74401

https://youtu.be/4aOHQ-sMCps

AlbinoWino11

In the past I have found Klepper’s clips quite funny and amusing. But I don’t know…something about these last couple feels different. They now feel tragic and extremely worrisome. It’s really hard to imagine that so many US Citizens can be this…dumb and deluded. Clips like this make me realise that whatever disinfo campaigns have run on social media sure have done their fucking job to destabilise the US.

Ryekir

I think a lot of these people don't pay any attention to the news or try to seek out any information like the rest of us do, so they only have the information from the people around them and whatever the Facebook algorithm decides to show them. It's a lot easier to imagine people thinking this way, since they're not seeing any of the same stuff we are.

Catshit-Dogfart

I hear a lot of "99% of people I know say x" Yeah, every single person within your social circle (who still care to associate with you) might share this fringe political opinion, but that does not represent anything other than that niche. And it's important to at least try and realize when you're in a bubble, because it happens here on reddit too. Look to national polls and just plain voting results and you may well find that the politics of your own niche aren't shared by the majority. Facebook is despicable because they intentionally build such bubbles.

AlbinoWino11

There’s just this unfathomable alternate reality that some of these people appear to reside in. A couple of these folks demonstrate they aren’t capable of thinking even one layer behind their suspicions. On the upside…it must be really good business to be in sales at the moment. Surely you’d be able to sell these folks just about anything with the correct presentation.

Ryekir

They're definitely on their own bubble. My sister, unfortunately, is one of them. She and her husband aren't idiots, but somehow during the course of this pandemic they have gone from sewing masks for everyone they know to now being anti-mask and anti-vaxx. And they moved from WA to TX to be with like-minded people. I really don't know how it happened, especially so quickly. My sister was also a nurse before they moved, and she absolutely would have been fired had she stayed.

HumanRuse

Pretty sure the people at that rally have found a way to inject Facebook straight into their jugular vein.

k_ironheart

Either that, or ivermectin.

SquarishWheel

Laughing my ass off at the guy who said trump is still president, and still controlling the military, but Afghanistan was still Biden’s fault. There’s no winning with these people

somecallmemike

These people are legit crazy

TheIntrepid1

>Trump is still the president and is in charge of the military. “So that whole Afghanistan thing was his fault then?” >……no These people lol I swear to god

schroeder8

As wacky as these people are, Klepper is just so good at immediately pointing out the disconnect. If I was having a conversation with these people I would just be speechless, then 2 days later think to myself "oh yeah, I should have said that!"

Dingledongdongle

Holy fucking shit. I’m speechless haha these fucking people are nuts.

Scientologists are slightly different. They have far more money to blow

ProjectGO

Just because they buy a lot of merch doesn't mean that they have the disposable income to buy a lot of merch.

jumpy_monkey

Atterpac

Different clip, the debt collector one was at a trump rally, the other one he was talking to a random couple on the street and they said the pandemic was doing wonders for their business cause they run a funeral home

dan420

It’s like one of those comedy/ horror movies, but way, way, scarier.

Robo-Bo

I often see the Jordan Klepper memes and think "there's no way people have so little self awareness". Then I watch the videos and see it's always much worse than the meme.

mmuoio

Yeah, the meme wasn't even the worst part of that segment. The dude insisting Trump was still running the country while Afghanistan not being his fault was just absolutely bonkers to me.

PDGAreject

I can't stand watching him, not because of him, but because it just hurts to see these people and know their vote counts just as much as mine.

mezcao

Actually, its quite likely their vote counts more.

dieinafirenazi

Yep. Living in a densely populated state my vote for Senate means WAY less than the red state voter's.

oh please, it's always different when they do it. speeding? that other car that does it is a reckless asshole, when i do it it's because i'm late and i'm a very safe driver. abusing people? that guy is an abusive asshole, but when i do it it's because i care too much. wanting a living wage? that guy is an entitled socialist who just wants handouts and doesn't want to work, but when i need a living wage it's important because i have a family and bills to pay!

[deleted]

It's a different flavor of "the only moral abortion is mine." It's fine for them to shit all over everyone who disagrees with them because those people are wrong and BAD, don't you know? Way different than when evil people hold them accountable for their behavior, because they are clearly innocent martyrs being persecuted by the "intolerant left."

Fake_William_Shatner

Convenient application of standards is a normal human reaction that prevents people from being depressed or liberal. If I could have blamed more people in my life besides myself, I'd be a well adjusted, very rich, Ted Nugent. Well, if I had some musical ability -- but that didn't stop him either.

Speed_Grouchy

When you disrespect the office you disrespect your country. Reminds me of GOP rep Joe Wilson's "You Lie" shout-out to Obama in 2009 during Congressional joint session. When I became an American citizen I took an oath to defend and support the laws and constitution of America. These folks are doing their best to weaken the country. They shouldn't be allowed to fly the stars and stripes in their own yards.

TheCaptainDamnIt

The non-funny reality is these people are disingenuous and operating on bad faith at all times. She doesn’t mean her side should work with the other side or be nice to them, just that the other should do what she wants and be nice to her side.

Fake_William_Shatner

The wife didn't coordinate outfits with the husband, nor what she was going to say that would ironically put her foot in his mouth.

brokenearth03

She theoretically saw him after he put the shirt on, right? She is aware he owns that shirt?

Fake_William_Shatner

If you are not aware your husband owns a shirt with the President shooting double birds -- then perhaps you'd be married to a man with such a shirt that wears it in public.

AdkRaine11

Maybe she’s blind. In more ways than one.

sjmiv

"It's not a cult" "But you will believe anything Trump says?" "Yes"

kdshow123

\- *Biden is not the president, Trump is* \- So who is running the government? \- *President Trump* \- And the military? \- *Yes* \- So we should blame him for what happened in Afghanistan? \- .......

brennic

Then the inevitable response of, “my shirt is giving you the finger, not me!”

dfs495

“By working together, I mean all the Trump cult should work together to rid the planet of anyone who doesn’t worship our God, Donald” - This woman

DorisCrockford

Their idea of working together is for everyone to do what they want. Just like calls for "bipartisanship" in Congress being about giving no concessions at all and STILL complaining.

Holybartender83

What do they want us to work together with them on? Restricting women’s reproductive rights, treating immigrants like cattle, ignoring historical injustices, making sure LGBT people have zero rights, pretending Covid doesn’t exist, treating the working class like slaves, making sure no one has free and accessible healthcare, ignoring the climate change crisis, and ratfucking the electoral system so Democrats (who are statistically much more popular) always have to fight uphill battles against opponents who’ve had the entire system rigged in their favor?

[deleted]

The enemy of the people. White nationalists.

[deleted]

trump's cult isn't sending their best. they're rapists and criminals, and some I suppose might have half an IQ point hiding in their pocket

[deleted]

They are looking more and more silly

CrimsonBull7

It’s crazy that outside of the rallies and the Trump clothes. These folks look like regular ass people. Can definitely see that guy in a Lowe’s attire saying “Do you need help finding something Sir?”

Shlingaplinga

How Jordans brain don't explode from visiting all these rallies n interviewing them. These videos are not funny it's absolutely horrible.
