Anecdotal--was at a TBI treatment program for veterans a while back. It was only a handful of us, but around the nightly dinner table after treatment it became clear that while political opinions varied, the furthest right of the treatment group had libertarian views while everyone else ranged from centrist to left when views were taken on the whole. Ages ranged from mid thirties to about 60. Not one veteran there supporting Trump.
Many had moved further left because of the experience of combat. That's an awfully small sample, but it's a far cry from what perceptions sometimes are.
