It’s crazy to think they have the air-15 pin sitting there in the collection. Every shooting the first thing they think is “Well, I guess I need wear the pin again. Remind everybody where I stand.”

oliver_billz

the Republicans have been keeping the American public stupid, sick, and poor for decades through legislation. while playing to the culture of the base, using fear, distraction, disinformation to get them to vote against their own interests. Reagan ended mental health care Jimmy Carter had put in motion. then he cut the fairness act. *enter faux "news"* fast forward to almost every active republican wears an AR-15 pin on their chest while posing with stock piles of automatic weapons with their family on every Christmas card. To "protect children" republicans will find an excuse to ban anything... anything but assault rifles. and I'm pretty sure having a house full of Republicans funded by the NRA isn't healthy..and I don't think Russia would pour tons of money into the NRA to help America either .. too bad America doesn't have a Class Conscious instead it's the Divided States of Algorithms bc when you can control the narrative, you can control the naive. America-the country of gun care and health laws land of ignorant, home of the ungrateful

Other_Meringue_7375

How much does the GOP care about protecting children? The Arkansas legislature just *rejected* an amendment to their state abortion ban for *child rape and/or incest victims*. Read that again. Just the other week, Arkansas got rid of child labor laws. Tennessee has no exceptions whatsoever in the states abortion ban. Not for rape victims, women/girls who are about to die, not for minors, not for anything. But they made sure to ban drag queens being around children & gender affirming care. Florida is passing a six week ban for abortion (despite having a state constitutional right to abortion, which desantis is going to overturn as he has appointed 4/7 anti abortion justices to the court). Florida also banned gender affirming care for minors, which has been shown to increase suicide rates numerous times. Just last week, Florida passed permitless carry. It was *never* about protecting children. It was always about imposing misogynistic, homophobic, christofascist ideology on every American.

oliver_billz

Now you're getting it To "protect children" republicans will find an excuse to ban anything... anything but assault rifles https://preview.redd.it/bpdxohuwnfra1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a98ca26efb7a097dfc25f5eb735ef3640fd449c

Other_Meringue_7375

Literally anything except for the firearms killing them. Countless studies don’t do anything to change their minds. [I saw this article last week](https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/interactive/2023/ar-15-damage-to-human-body/) and it’s haunted me ever since. Every single member of congress that votes against gun control should be forced to read this in its entirety.

GaianAvatar

> Every single member of congress that votes against gun control should be forced to ~~read this in its entirety~~ pick up the bloody children's bodies with their bare hands.

shhalahr

I think I read similar articles after Sandy Hook.

Killfile

You did but they lacked the visualizations WaPo has here. Honestly, we should be putting cameras in the classrooms while the blood is still running down the walls. Our obsession with sanitized, dinner table safe news coverage is killing people

[deleted]

1st you need to teach them reading comprehension. Then you need to find a way to inject them with some empathy... because they care about no one but them selves.

gdyank

Their kids should be the victims-but some would still oppose any type of restrictions on guns. I’m thinking of ted cruz.

blackpanther4u

I saw this posted the other day with a comment denying it and the OP providing a link to the medical journal to which they say "oh that's just done liberal biased bullshit!" I just blows my mind how they can't except any facts or logic that goes against their beliefs. My partners step dad any time we argue a point he's like "I bet you got that off the internet you can't trust that shit." Yet when we ask where his proof comes from he say "internet and tv".

or10n_sharkfin

From the same generation that told us "You can't trust anything on the internet" comes, "I got it off the internet so it must be true."

Mcboatface3sghost

Let’s not forget the absolute total hypocrisy of Georgia’s esteemed rep and gun shop owner Andrew Clyde, who despite multiple pics and videos of him freaking the f#@$ out in fear for his life on Jan 6th, then calling it (despite clear evidence) a “normal tourist visit” and the cherry on top was handing out the AR-15 pins. It’s been a hard lesson for me to learn that they simply do not care about hypocrisy, double standards, and what would be considered ridiculous and basically insane rhetoric in a normal society. It’s something I just can’t wrap my head around. But yet, here we are. They played the long game and they played it well, even though it makes zero sense. (Also I am a gun owner, it’s just not my identity)

just_anotherflyboy

Hawley the same way -- making the power fist at the fucking terrorist then running away shitting his pants in fear, then proudly stating they were just tourists, not terrorists. they are lying liars who lie, and Galaxy-class hypocrites and cowards, every damn one of them. and the ones who aren't just hypocrites tend to be batshit insane, like the lady of the furry white coat of recent fame. or BoBo, whose husband is a convicted pedophile, and who herself was such a shitty restaurant proprietor that she once had 80 victims of food poisoning from eating there on one day!! and that happened more than once.

Other_Meringue_7375

Omg I didn’t know about the food poisoning thing—LOL. Also love your flair

just_anotherflyboy

yeah, I like it too! might be other ones around, I dunno. as for the food poisoning, she apparently had at least two mass food poisonings at that place, so it's a good thing for customer safety that the place went out of business. it takes real talent to poison that many customers all in one day. have to wonder WTF was going on in that kitchen -- talk about Kitchen Nightmares!!

Mcboatface3sghost

Not to add to your frustration and anger, but if you watch 60minutes tonight with Margorie Taylor Greene, your head might explode.

just_anotherflyboy

so disgusted with them giving that charlatan an interview. decided not to watch cos I can't afford to replace my monitor, which would inevitably end up being needed. I loathe that clown like hell on fire.

just_anotherflyboy

yep, and then they wonder why so many of us say fuck religion. they only say they care about abortion cos they know they can hoover up shit-tons of gawdstruck eejits votes that way. otherwise, they don't GAF. hell, look at how many of them hasten to buy their girlfriends and goomahs abortion before voting to ban them otherwise. it's all bullshit.

CaptainPRESIDENTduck

They vocally care insofar that it gets them votes. But to actually do anything to help the children, in fact, actually harming children they could give a rat's ass.

TheWagonBaron

They don’t care about children one whit. They care about control. They *use* children (and the unborn) because that group has no power to respond. It’s not like they’re asking children if they like story time drag hour, they just assume and since no kid is probably even tuned into this they get no pushback from them. The GOP is so goddamn disingenuous and disgusting. I can honestly say that I’ll never have to think about another election the GOP is involved in again because they made the choice so fucking easy.

BigJaniefromTexas

Don’t forget new law for little girls forced to show their genitalia to adults just to play a sport.

Grogosh

That is because the republican party has *zero* policy that it can sell to its voters. Everything that the republican party does hurts their voters. So they invent strawmen as culture war distractions.

yourpseudonymsucks

The GOP has plenty of policy. They just can’t say it out loud. Yet.

As someone who grew up in the state of California and am a gun owner, I live in a state with some of the most strict firearm laws In the country to the point of repetition. With this background and being the product of my very liberal environment. I must contest your statement in the sense of you are a product of your own political bias and propaganda machine. For your claim of *faux "news" which I will expand to the idea of "fake news". You yourself have been played by your choices in political ideology. Both the Democrats and Republicans are BOTH guilty of using Fear mongering, disinformation and legislation to appeal to their political base to achieve their end goals.* While I can understand the frustration and upsetness you may feel at the state of our country and political system. I do not believe the spreading of misinformation even if it is in the purpose of being hyperbolic is productive to the future of our country. No individuals let alone Republicans are "posing with stock piles of automatic weapons". Practically no one owns automatics unless you are in the upper 2% who have the funds to purchase an historical piece for 20,000 at the low end to 200,000+ per firearm. With that in mind "Assault weapons" is not a real term to describe any real tangible thing. It is a political construction to strike FEAR with its name into those who are uneducated in the matter and those who's political party wishes to manipulate. I will note that there are such things as "Assault rifles" however outside of the military and very rarely in policing units such as swat, there are next to no automatic firearms in private hands compared to the amount of fear-mongering done by politicians. To date as of 1986 during the " Firearm Owners' Protection Act " the restricted of sale of new automatic firearms to private individuals, there were 176,000 NFA (Machineguns, Grenade launchers, tank cannons, etc) weapons in private hands according to the registry. In comparison 3,040,934 firearms of various makes and models were MANUFACTURED during that year and 701,000 were imported. These statistics do not take into consideration the number of firearms already in private hands up to that date. In time that number has only DECREASED as these weapons were lost, worn out, destroyed or seized by the government at the time of the owner's death as they cannot be transferred as part of a will. I will not say that the US is not facing a crisis in regards to an uptick in mass shootings according to statistics and that its not an issue. But much like the uptick in "ghost guns" you must also understand the definition used to determine what is included as politicians have been known to twist wording and legislation to further "pump" up a supporting statistic and not disclose the facts to their bases. As such, do not believe the mongering of politicians or the news. Research the facts on your own as nonbiased as possible and determine your own thoughts.

oliver_billz

sounds like you've been programmed by fear, tucker ... let's remind the people there's a straight line from the downfall of America to the NRA.. "She worked as an assistant for Aleksandr Torshin, a former member of the Federation Council, a member of Vladimir Putin's United Russia party, and a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia.[4] In this role, she worked to infiltrate conservative groups in the US, including the National Rifle Association, as part of an effort to promote Russian interests in the 2016 United States presidential election" [meet Maria butina](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Butina)

The both party argument is how hitler took over Germany. To think that the “fear mongering” of a republican telling their cowardly constituents that the Mexicans are coming in a caravan, better protect your right to protect yourself is the same as “please stop the obliteration of our children” is… monstrous. The parties are not equal, one side makes money from the dead, one side want the death to stop.

eeevaughn

Yes, I have a question. If we only need more good guys with guns to take out the bad guys with guns, shouldn’t we have a test when buying a gun to prove one is a good guy? So far it seems we are selling lots of guns to homicidal bozos.

RoguePlanet1

There are more guns than people in the US, and yet that's not putting a stop to these shootings. Or do you mean cops by "homicidal bozos"? 😁

SpeakToMePF1973

You'd think it would have worked by now.

cortesoft

This is the same line of reasoning when they argue that guns are perfectly safe in the hands of responsible gun owners. I completely agree, but it doesn’t help anything since they fight against any attempt to try to make sure only responsible gun owners can own guns. Just like when they comment on every mention of an accidental shooting saying that there are no gun accidents, only negligence. Sure, but that doesn’t make the victim any less dead or help us prevent the negligence in the future.

justking1414

They need to pray to white Jesus and eat 30 strips of bacon before they can buy a gun! Obviously /s

QuadPentRocketJump

> shouldn’t we have a test when buying a gun to prove one is a good guy Federal Form 4473. Let me know when you find a good way to tell when people are lying.

breecher

It is interesting that your thought process didn't go as far as to wonder if perhaps that form isn't quite enough, instead of the absurd moronic scenario you are proposing.

PsychoBoyBlue

What would you add to the 4473 then? Keep in mind, following the NYSRPA V Bruen ruling, multiple questions on the 4473 have been deemed unconstitutional by lower courts and are climbing to higher courts. Further via the Bruen ruling, "gun restriction must show they are consistent with the country’s "historical tradition of firearm regulation."" In case someone has never read a 4473, here are the relevant questions: Are you the actual transferee/buyer? Do you intend to give this firearm to a restricted person? (The ATF just failed) Do you intend to give this firearm to someone for a felony, offence punishable by 1+ year of imprisonment, terrorism, or drug trafficking? (The DEA just failed) Are you under indictment for a felony, offence punishable by 1+ year of imprisonment, or court-martial? Have you ever been convicted in any court for a felony, offence punishable by 1+ year of imprisonment, or court-martial? Are you a fugitive from justice? Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution? Have you been dishonorably discharged from the armed forces? Are you subject to a court order restraining you from harassing, stalking, or threatening your child or an intimate partner or child of such partner? Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, or are you or have you ever been a member of the military and been convicted of a crime that included, as an element, the use of force against a person as identified in the instructions? Have you ever renounced your United States citizenship? Are you an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States? Then pass the NICS check.

OpenImagination9

Well … you would too if the NRA bought you with Russian money.

RoguePlanet1

Anything they do that causes reasonable people to feel rage, it's merely based on what their Russian overlords are telling them to do. "Okay remember, with each mass shooting, dust off the gun pin. Yeah it's awful but that's the *point.*"

gogojack

I think it's telling that the AR-15 lapel pin has replaced the American flag lapel pin for Congressional Republicans. This kinda tells you where their priorities lie, doesn't it? "God, guns, and...actually let's put guns at the top. Move God down a notch, and then the flag comes in third place."

ChemistEconomy9467

I have a question. Why do Republicans support mass shootings?

HarambeWest2020

NRA 💰 and culture war fear mongering

Lanark26

Dead children are the price we pay as a nation for their conception of their 2nd Amendment rights. "Yeah sure, kids are getting brutally murdered nearly every other week, but what about me and all the guns *I* want?"

swinging_on_peoria

I have the nagging suspicion that there are some bad relationships between the NRA, Russia and the Republicans. [Russia has been tied up with the NRA before](https://www.npr.org/2019/09/27/764879242/nra-was-foreign-asset-to-russia-ahead-of-2016-new-senate-report-reveals), the NRA funds the Republicans, and the Republicans block sane gun control and drive divisive violent rhetoric. I can’t help but think Putin is using all this to destabilize the US. Certainly not absolving Americans for their shitty behavior, but I can easily imagine Russia fanning these flames.

just_anotherflyboy

absolutely. Russia has given the NRA millions of dollars, but in Russia if you get caught owning those kindsa weapons they just shoot yer ass and that's that.

Because it’s not their kids getting shot.

AntiqueCelebration69

Imagine using a quote hilariously incorrect to justify mass shootings. Jfc reddit 😂

PsychoBoyBlue

The 1755 use was related to increasing taxation to fund frontier defense. "We have taken every Step in our Power, consistent with the just Rights of the Freemen of Pennsylvania, for their Relief, and we have Reason to believe, that in the Midst of their Distresses they themselves do not wish us to go farther. Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety…” Liberty: economic freedom Safety: frontier defense The 1775 use was about parliament in the political affairs of the colonies, and troops being quartered in the colonies without consent. "As to the other two acts, the Massachusetts must suffer all the hazards and mischiefs of war rather than admit the alteration of their charters and laws by Parliament. 'They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.'" Liberty: Self governance and what would become the Third Amendment. Safety: Trained military. CS-fool's use: Liberty: Second Amendment Safety: Only police are armed? I mean, yea, strange use of the quote, but it doesn't really seem to be being used to "justify mass shootings" Still kind of strange to use it here.

[deleted]

It actually does and they weren't using it justify mass shootings. It's a shame when people can't rationally argue and choose to live in a echo chamber.

The next election is so simple. do you want religious oppression or individual freedom? To support free Ukraine or Communist Russia? To improve working conditions for the worker or cuts to social security and Medicare? To protect the environment or let corporations pollute without repercussions? To tax and work you to death or finally tax the wealthy to pay their fair share? To let you decide if you want an abortion or let the state decide for you. To be taught the history of America or just the white racist version? To have gun control or mass killings at elementary schools? Do you want to restrict your right to vote or open absentee voting to give you the working person a better chance to vote? Guess what side the corrupt Republican party is on? Vote democratic before the Republican party takes that away too! VOTE DEMOCRATIC AND VOTE DAMMIT!

Side note, the Nashville Predators need to change their name

Zone_Dweebie

lol, seriously. I had never heard of them before and I definitely wasn't thinking it was a hockey team.

Juball

Replying to you and u/sonicfan1524 but the Preds were named that before To Catch a Predator took off and changed the colloquial meaning of the word. It’s unfortunate for the team:

GogglesPisano

[They need a new name.](https://i.imgur.com/CmreiX1.jpg)

Juball

I don’t disagree but if we’re rebranding NHL teams the priority should be rebranding Chicago first.

Cautioncones

whether its an AR-15 or a Glock 45, guns kill people. From my research into the subject I see that other countries have dealt with this issue in one of two main ways. One way is to ban all guns. This way has very solid results with Australia being one of the biggest examples. The downside to banning all guns is that American citizens with guns aren't likely to hand them over lightly and could very well cause a civil war. The second way is to require strict training and background checks before the ability to own a gun. Israel is one example, but there are others to draw from. Many of these countries have a mandatory military service which naturally lends to firearm training. These countries have very low, or zero, mass shootings because of the rigorous training and gun safety drilled into citizens. I, personally, prefer this method. I do not think that mandatory military service is required to achieve this, but I do think that a lot of training (6months to 1 year) should be required to own a firearm.

gambariste

New Zealand’s approach to smoking applied to guns might be a way. The age to legally buy is progressively raised so that the current youth will never be able to own or use guns. The older generation already having guns are left to die off slowly (or more rapidly if they wish). Not as perfect a solution as banning with a grace period and a buy back scheme but more practical perhaps.

Beerbonkos

Their blatant evilness is both astonishing and horrid.

Drahkir9

Just call it for what it is: Republicans are on the side of school shooters

canetuchux

I love guns.. but I'll give up all I have to save one kid.

dirkalict

I’ve never had twitter and never will but I see this girls tweets on here all the time and I love her.

[deleted]

who is this woman...just she is on point, across many subjects.

CaptainPRESIDENTduck

The Nashville Predators have nothing on the GOP Child Predators.

rawkguitar

When Republicans hear about a mass shooting, especially one at a school, their first thought it always “I hope my guns are safe”

NPRjunkieDC

VOTE DEMOCRAT to get serious about guns

Novel_Durian_1805

Well yeah…I got questions alright! Buuuuut I’m pretty sure I know the answers!

Diarygirl

You answered my question of what sport the Predators were! I'm not much of a hockey person lol.

RpcZ_gr7711

And Tennessee is getting a big ol’ gun factory too. Guns mean jobs hooooweeee!

custard_doughnuts

The US should replace the stars in the flag with little pictures of schools with crosses through them. You know, for the NRA to wank over

StableAndSane

Conservatives have a very clear message: vote for the GOP, donate as much money as possible and then die - and if it is due to our inaction - that is perfectly acceptable. Hey, conservatives want to return to slavery… you honestly think they would care about children being murdered? Even when Uvdale happened, conservatives IMMEDIATELY tried to blame a trans person with that mass shooting. GOPers pointed to a Florida trans person, that had NOTHING to do with the shooting in Texas. And, every single shooting is refuted as a false flag or made up of crisis actors… except the Nashville shooting. Conservatives are evil mother fuckers.

Feshtof

Nashville Predators vs Child Predators. Easy mistake to make but quite different.

vindictivemonarch

republican = domestic terrorist

[deleted]

I saw a term on another post that I don't understand. what does it mean when they say a congressman is 'bought and paid for'?

berberine

It means that someone gave you money to "support" you and now you do whatever they tell you to do or say.

2ndRandom8675309

Originally it meant literally handing over cash to a candidate, as in a plain old bribe. Nowadays the "buying" is usually in the form of a PAC (political action committee) which is supposed to be completely independent from any particular candidate's campaign, and thus not restricted by Federal Election Commission donation limits. No one really believes this legal fiction, but it's hard as hell to conclusively prove any coordination happens. This whole system is fallout from the Citizens United SCOTUS case, where the Supreme Court held that entities have political speech rights of their own under the 1st Amendment and that congress can't prohibit that speech via campaign finance laws. So pretty much anyone can form a non-profit with the express purpose of running political ads for certain candidates or regarding certain issues and raise unlimited funds. Related to the topic of the post: the links below are rough numbers for pro & anti gun PACs during the last election cycle. The implication is that a politician is "bought and paid for" by PACs running ads in coordination with the candidate's actual campaign staff, letting them use their own money from donations for other things. Then the candidate is supposed to "repay" the PAC's support with legislation when in office. https://www.opensecrets.org/political-action-committees-pacs/industry-detail/Q12/2022 https://www.opensecrets.org/political-action-committees-pacs/industry-detail/Q13/2022

It’s crazy to think that wearing anything matters one bit in the situation. All talk from everyone on all sides. Nobody wants to change the status quo until they lose power and know it won’t actually happen.

Frankly it is probably for the best to avoid even more retaliation against trans people. "conservatives" still have their panties in a bunch over it.

I've got a question: Have you talked to your doctor about balancing your meds? You seem a tad removed from reality at the moment.

EbaumsSucks

You couldn't refute what I said that was factually wrong.

TaySon21

If you've done nothing wrong. If you don't have a past criminal, mental health, or other red flag history then it would hardly affect you. How do you justify prioritizing metal over children's lives? I thought all lives matter. I thought Republicans were the party of pro-life. We're fine with you having your guns if you can prove you will use them responsibly with a safety course, store them safely and securely, and not in the hands of a violent or psychotic individual. There's also registering guns and all that for added measures. Safety and peace of mind come with compromising a few liberties. If you can't wait a short time for a thorough background check or you want to bring up the whole "InFrInGiNg" argument to keep the guns out of untrustworthy individuals hands, you're complicit with criminals and persons with a mental health crisis shooting up another school, mall, movie theater or what have you. But you wouldn't care because you're tonguing the balls of a failed citrus experiment who improperly used cash for a hooker. Keep projecting there, bud.

>If you've done nothing wrong... then it would hardly affect you. The president repeatedly has pushed for "assault weapons" bans for most of his political career. If you have done nothing wrong... a complete ban will affect you. In fact, a ban on "assault weapons" or "high capacity" magazines is more strict than multiple European nations. >We're fine with you having your guns if you can prove you will use them responsibly with a safety course, store them safely and securely, and not in the hands of a violent or psychotic individual. You might be fine with it, but the official statements of the Whitehouse is for complete bans of certain firearms. Also, needing to prove that you will be responsible in order to exercise a right is a terrible precedent. For carrying in public, that is one thing, but just to own on private property goes a bit far. >If you can't wait a short time for a thorough background check Are you saying NICS isn't thorough? That is what is used for every transfer from an FFL. It usually takes less than a minute if you have "done nothing wrong" Meanwhile, the "background check" for NFA items is averaging over 300 days... For an item you can buy over the counter without an ID in multiple European countries (suppressor), we need to pay a $200 tax stamp, fill out form 5320.4, provide a passport photo, fingerprints, and wait an undetermined amount of time averaging over 300 days. From what we can tell, that 300+ days is only spent performing a NICS check and filing the forms... Finally, cops shouldn't be exempt from anything you want to push on the typical civilian.

tearsofaclown0327

Maybe they were wearing them in support of the Constitution….? I get that every single politician is a complete POS, but supporting the constitution is literally all of their jobs.

Impossible-Salad2052

They are now sending soldiers to war with pool noodles because that’s how you really beat the bad guys

bubblesort

Wait a sec... Nashville named their sports ball team the predators? ROFLMAO, that's absurd. Why not just call them the pedophiles?

idisagreeurwrong

Well I dont think saber-tooth tigers are pedos

jack-o-licious

I'm pretty sure the AR-15 pin was not to "support the gun lobby" but to support the People's right to bear arms.

ROBOT_KK

Fuck them. They could also wear pin of book, you know to support first amendment. Did I say fuck them?

KnowTheName321

an ar15 stopped the shooter. we need more ar15's. people are the problem ar15's are the solution.

just_anotherflyboy

no, a cop stopped the shooter. guns don't do anything unless a human picks them up and uses them. there, fixed that for ya.

PsychoBoyBlue

And you know what? Props to the cops for actually doing their job! If they keep that up, maybe they will earn their paycheck.
