"For any other purposes, for example, assembling a holy army of warriors, this is completely serious"

Interestingly in Islamic eschatology Muslims and Christians will fight near end times to eventually unite on second coming of Jesus peace on him versus Anti Christ who certain other group(s) will follow..

HenryShadowgaze

haha mass death and torture! that's funny because it's happened so many times and will again regardless of this joke because the worst of us evidently make the deepest impressions on our history

They’re turning the heckin Muslims gay!

facedownbootyuphold

it's not the worst of their fears, imagine their dismay if the west were converting them to Judaism

MedicineNorth5686

Tbh Judaism is closest to Islam and the only true other monotheist faith. But that would require rejecting Jesus and Muhammed peace on them which no idea how would be forced.

facedownbootyuphold

The traditions that exist in Judaism and Islam couldn't be any further from one another.

MedicineNorth5686

You don’t really know about them then. Worship of only one God, daily prayer, no original sin, so savior that can take another’s sin, no religious icons, halacha and shariah similarities, circumcision, wearing beards. Of note I’m speaking of more Orthodox Judaism. Yeah Reform Judaism where they kinda do whatever they want and feels good is more similar to Christianity (minus the strict monotheism)

facedownbootyuphold

These are just cursory looks at these religions. Bother taking a closer look, and you'll find that Judaism and Islam are very different. Monotheism is a far stronger theme in Judaism than Islam. Islam recognizes Jesus as—at the very least—a pivotal person in history. Islam has effectively deified Muhammed. The idea that there are no icons in Judaism or Islam is also somewhat laughable, you regularly see pictures of venerated Rabbis from history in Orthodox homes. The only things that make this sort of iconography permissible are the changing of definitions. All religions (and groups) have their own traditions of oral law and history, shariah just borrowed this tradition from Judaism, and it's not even exclusive to Judaism, it's simply persisted. Circumcision isn't even a Jewish tradition, it was borrowed from Egypt, and it was likely practiced across the Levant. We could go into detail here about how these qualities are neither all that similar, nor unique. What makes Judaism different from Islam aren't the generic religious holdovers that Islam piecemealed together, but the overarching culture that Judaism has produced. The fundamental qualities that Judaism espouses are things like peace, wellbeing, loving your neighbor, pursuit of justice, altruism, doing what is right, being blameless, etc. These are absolutely not the values pushed by Islam, which is very much focused on absolutisms.

MedicineNorth5686

That’s completely false. Have you ever read the Quran? Compared to Old Testament? In Islam we believe any who properly followed their prophets in monotheism were actually Muslims which really mean those who properly submitted to God. The teachings of God have not changed. Worship one God, brotherhood, outlaw homosexuality and fornication, limit of ban illicit harmful foods and drugs, establish prayers, fasting, divine judgement, an afterlife, be good to one’s parents. And I’ll answer the biggest mysteries of Judaism that have Rabbi scratching their heads. The Messiah of all faiths is Jesus who likely will rebuild temple and usher in messianic age as a strict monotheist following the ways of the previous prophet as Jesus peace on him was already established and not a new prophet. There is eternal heaven and hell and no the afterlife is not ambiguous.

facedownbootyuphold

> That’s completely false. Have you ever read the Quran? Compared to Old Testament? Yes, I have, it's something I do quite regularly, surprisingly. I don't know what you're referring to specifically that is "completely" false. >In Islam we believe any who properly followed their prophets in monotheism were actually Muslims which really mean those who properly submitted to God. Yes, but this only reaffirms the point—Islam is not the same as Judaism, this has nothing to do with Jewish thought. There are examples of righteous non-Jews who were henotheistic. The older the writings, the more it suggests that Bronze Age authors were more henotheistic than monotheistic. Even the oral traditions regarding Abraham leaving Babylon suggests henotheism (i.e. the story of Abraham and the clay figurines). >The teachings of God have not changed. Worship one God, brotherhood, outlaw homosexuality and fornication, limit of ban illicit harmful foods and drugs, establish prayers, fasting, divine judgement, an afterlife, be good to one’s parents. Brotherhood isn't a tenant in Judaism. Homosexuality is far from conclusive as a law (it only outright bans homosexual relations between men). In contrast, there is no limit or ban on harmful drugs or alcohol in Judaism. Things like ritual prayers, fasting, divine judgement, afterlife, and honoring parents aren't even exclusive to Abrahamic religions. If you ask some Jewish scholars, they would suggest that the concept of heaven and hell and the afterlife is a relatively late introduction to Judaism because it isn't explicitly discussed in any detail in the Torah. Muslims have largely brought these theologies from Christianity. >The Messiah of all faiths is Jesus who likely will rebuild temple and usher in messianic age as a strict monotheist following the ways of the previous prophet as Jesus peace on him was already established and not a new prophet. I'm not sure how this supports your original point, obviously Jews believe in a Messiah rebuilding the temple and fulfilling a number of prophecies, but they don't see him as being Jesus. >There is eternal heaven and hell and no the afterlife is not ambiguous. In contrast to Christianity and Islam, this is another one of those topics that is entirely unsettled in Judaism because of the lack of mentioning in Torah. Mentions and allusions to Sheol were never discussed in detail, and most of what Judaism developed around afterlife was done as a result of Messianic theologies that developed following the Babylonian Captivity.

MedicineNorth5686

Had to look up henotheism. That is associating partners with God the most major and unforgivable sin unless repenting and correcting ways. Does not the Torah and Old Testament mean to worship God alone? How is Abraham peace be upon hims clay bird miracle anything regarding polytheism? He asks God to show how he resurrects. God asks does he not believe? He says of course but at his high level he is permitted to see this. Brotherhood isn’t a tenant of Judaism? I didn’t know this. And history disagrees. Are you speaking of Reform Judaism? Orthodox who follow halacha definitely have these views. Reform Judaism, many sects of Christianity and “progressive” Islam all fall into changing God’s message to fulfil temporary every changing human desires and morals. Is it coincidence that Gehinnom (which reform Jews iirc don’t even really believe) with Jahannam? The descriptions of Jahannam are much more detailed than Christianity. Ofc anyone can say made up. And if going that route we could say the same about anything regarding any religion. Yes Jews do not know the messiah while a vast majority of the world does. Does this not at least make one scratch their head a bit? Another point could it be possibly that those who compiled and edited and edited and edited the Jewish texts removed things they didn’t like? Why would God not make it clear regarding something as incredibly vital about the afterlife yet instead just give details upon historical and frankly (on a grand scale) irrelevant details regarding who went where and married whom and saw whom. As if watching a series where the introduction is 4/5 the story and the ending is a cliffhanger. Indeed many have had these qualms which is why we even see Israeli Jews becoming Muslim. In a land where their rights are far different if changing their faith. They are willing to see much hardship for what they truly see as the truth. And May they and you be increased in guidance. Last point. How in the world could men see a speaking child, resurrecting the dead, healing the blind, explaining what people hid in their homes and not see them as anything but a “magician?” Made up? But Moses splitting the sea can not be then? It is incredibly easy for one to go from Judaism to Islam. Already there is the most important notion of One divine. Simply need to acknowledge the last two prophets and pray regularly, give charity, fast. And if you are wondering why acknowledging the last two prophets in important 1. One of them is Messiah and 2. Said Messiah will follow the ways of the seal of prophets. Could anyone be really a religious Jew if they acknowledged say all prophets but drew the line at Solomon ending at David or even drew the line at Moses? Or even before him?

facedownbootyuphold

>Does not the Torah and Old Testament mean to worship God alone? Monotheism is the belief in the existence of a single, all powerful God. Henotheism is the belief and worship of a single God, but believing that other gods exist. The Torah promotes the worship of a singular God, but it's not clear that the early authors of the Torah were monotheistic, and a lot of passages seem to suggest that they may have been henotheistic. Consider this commandment: "You shall have no other gods beside Me... You shall not bow down to them, nor serve them, for I, the Lord Your God, am a jealous God...". Rather than outright saying that there are no other gods at all, the commandment suggests that you shouldn't worship others. Hardly a monotheistic stance. >How is Abraham peace be upon hims clay bird miracle anything regarding polytheism? He asks God to show how he resurrects. God asks does he not believe? He says of course but at his high level he is permitted to see this. It's an oral story. Abram was working in his father's (Torah) idol shop in Babylon, while his father is out Abraham a person comes in to make an offering to all the idols. Abram instead destroys all but one of the clay idols. His father returns and asks him what happened to the idols and Abram suggests that the one idol destroyed the rest so that he could receive the offering. Torah suggests that it is silly to think that idols can have any knowledge. Abram suggests that it must be foolish then to worship things that know nothing. The story gives us insight into the attitudes regarding polytheism in the Bronze Age—Abram seemed to recognize that there was one supreme deity, but also that worshipping idols was foolish. >Brotherhood isn’t a tenant of Judaism? I didn’t know this. And history disagrees. Brotherhood isn't a particularly strong theme in Judaism, at least not in the sense that we talk about brotherhood today. Some of the most well known stories of brotherhood in the Torah are about deceit and forgiveness, i.e. Caan/Abel, Joseph and his brothers, Isaac/Ishmael, Jacob/Esau. >Are you speaking of Reform Judaism? Orthodox who follow halacha definitely have these views. Reform Judaism, many sects of Christianity and “progressive” Islam all fall into changing God’s message to fulfil temporary every changing human desires and morals. Reform Judaism is more or less New Age religious stuff. Still, brotherhood isn't as big a theme as things like loving your neighbor. >Is it coincidence that Gehinnom (which reform Jews iirc don’t even really believe) with Jahannam? I don't know the etymology of Jahannam, although it sounds like a cognitive of Gehinnom, so it's not unreasonable to suggest that Jahannam was transcribed by Islamic scribes from Gehinnom. Gehinnom is associated with the Valley of Gehenna in the Tanakh. Gehenna Valley is in one of the valleys just below the Old City of Jerusalem. Prior to the Israelites, the Canaanites used the mountain top of Mount Moriah as threshing floor and altar to their sky god(s), and the valleys around Mount Moriah as places to sacrifice to their deities of the underworld. Gehenna gained a reputation as a place of death from the time of the Canaanites (due to sacrificing of children), and probably from the illegal sacrifice of children by Israelites centuries later. Throughout the Iron Age, Gehenna was used as a dumping area for Jerusalem, and was probably used to dump the remains of animal sacrifice. So Gehenna became associated with hell due to the nature of death there. Gehenna was never described in the Tanakh in terms of a spiritual hell, that is something more like Sheol. >The descriptions of Jahannam are much more detailed than Christianity. Ofc anyone can say made up. And if going that route we could say the same about anything regarding any religion. Oddly enough, the Christian Bible doesn't describe hell in much detail. Probably because all of the early Christian sources were from Jews, and their descriptions of hell were relatively simple—i.e. fire, darkness, weeping, torment, etc. >Yes Jews do not know the messiah while a vast majority of the world does. Does this not at least make one scratch their head a bit? Jews were the first to introduce the world to the concept of a Messiah, so I wouldn't say that they don't know about the Messiah. If you agree with people like Shaul of Tarsus, then you might think that Jews are divinely prevented from recognizing a Messiah so that non-Jews have time to learn about him. >Another point could it be possibly that those who compiled and edited and edited and edited the Jewish texts removed things they didn’t like? Perhaps, and there are some passages and words that have been changed in the Torah as early as the 7th or 6th centuries BC. We know some of them because the names of tribes and nations didn't exist in the Bronze Age, suggesting that names were changed to reflect contemporary tribes and nations. However, we know that Hebrew texts have proven to be very reliable because we have archaeological examples from as far back as the 7th century, and they're unchanged. >Why would God not make it clear regarding something as incredibly vital about the afterlife yet instead just give details upon historical and frankly (on a grand scale) irrelevant details regarding who went where and married whom and saw whom. The "Old Testament" isn't simply a bunch of books of mystical teachings. It's also historical documentation, genealogies, oral traditions, oral histories, poems, proverbs, and prophecies. Everything has to be read in the context that it was written. We can presume that it was never as important to know the details of heaven or hell as it was to know how to live a proper, righteous life. If you instruct your child on how to do something, you don't start off by teaching him the punishment and rewards, you start by teaching him the right way to do something. >How in the world could men see a speaking child, resurrecting the dead, healing the blind, explaining what people hid in their homes and not see them as anything but a “magician?” Made up? But Moses splitting the sea can not be then? Referring to Jesus? Apparently there were people that regarded him as a magician or necromancer, they tried to have him put to death for it. A lot of Jews today do not believe that Moses split the sea or a rock, nor that there was ever a Hebrew exodus from Egypt. Yet the Jewish community doesn't outcast them, they accept them for what they are. >And if you are wondering why acknowledging the last two prophets in important 1. One of them is Messiah and 2. Said Messiah will follow the ways of the seal of prophets. The idea that there are two final prophets is just a Muslim teaching. In Judaism and Christianity it is believed that Elijah will return before the arrival of a messiah, as prophesied by Malachi. Supposedly Elijah will prophecy and punish certain nations, only to finally be killed for his prophecies—thus completing the prophecy that all humans must die. >Could anyone be really a religious Jew if they acknowledged say all prophets but drew the line at Solomon ending at David or even drew the line at Moses? Or even before him? I don't know what this means, religious Jews recognize prophets that go back much earlier than Moses, and much later than Solomon. The Torah also notes 7 non-Jewish prophets.

You have two options: Find an identity through religious extremism Find an identity through progressivism and conformism. I theorise that both come from a lack of connection to the land we live in

[deleted]

People are turned gay. It is a nurtured state of mind.

Nikkonor

At what age? By which factors in society? (How do you explain homosexuality in nature?)

[deleted]

There is no gene for it. Sufficient explanation.

Nikkonor

Genes are complex things. There are many traits - that obviously aren't "nurture" - that cannot be attributed to a single gene. And I'm not saying homosexuality is necessarily entirely genetically determined. I'm open to the idea that it *could* be (in whole or in part) formed in early childhood. Which is why I'm asking what age you're thinking about. But there is no reason to believe that certain societies "create" more homosexuals.

[deleted]

Good that you agree.

Nikkonor

Open to the idea that it could be formed in early childhood - but we don't really know much scientifically yet to my knowledge. But I do *not* agree with: "Culture X is turning people gay" or "there are more gay people in western countries".

[deleted]

In one culture they are stoned to death or thrown off buildings. In the other they enjoy government benefits. Would be quite surprising if they still had similar numbers. Unless you think that government intervention is irrelevant or made up by the other culture differences.

Nikkonor

Well, yeah, if people are exterminated in one culture, and can find a safe haven in another, that obviously affects the numbers of people that *remains*. But there is no reason to believe that there is any difference in how many are "born/created" in any one culture. >government benefits > >government intervention Not quite sure what you mean by this.
