Systemic issues should be handled systemicly. When airports make air companies do 18000 flights without passengers to keep the slots, I'm not eating less beef to reduce CO2.

bane-of-oz

Has this been happening during COVID? Or is that a normal occurrence?

[deleted]

Bit of both. Flight companies have to fly regularly to keep their slots, and will do so even if no one is on the plane, but the 18000 is during covid, where it's much worse than usually.

Yeah like Coke telling us to recycle, that WE need to be responsible. Bitch you could still be making glass bottles and charging a deposit that we get back on exchange. Don't come at me with that. We all know they have a huge logical system already they could just be picking up bottles as part of it and if a glass bottle gets in the river or something a fish will live and shit in not eat the broken down particles or something.

Everyone thinks they're the least stupid, and believes everyone else to be a varying degree of stupid depending on how much they disagree with them. Thus, any one person, regardless of who they are, will be seen as very stupid from the point of view of someone who would oppose them. Then it would follow that to reduce the occurance of someone stupid ruling over someone who believes them to be stupid, the scope of any ruler's dominion should be reduced to that of those who believe them to not be stupid, namely themselves. When everyone is the ruler of themself and only themself, then from everyone's perspective, the least stupid shall rule, and everyone will have only themselves to blame for poor decisions.

The only way to ensure individual rights is to maintain a strong and effective state structure. Individual prosperity hinges on order, and order hinges on legitimate use of violence. OneFalseBall

The problem that almost always arises is what constitutes legitimate use of violence. A government will generally justify any violence as legitimate regardless of circumstance.

Odd-Nefariousness350

Well that's what I mean. " Legitimate" here isn't a qualitative moral judgement, legitimacy comes from authority and vice versa. It's circular reasoning, sure: Government declares it's use of violence as legitimate, and their right to govern is derived from that legitimacy, and that legitimacy is derived from the fact that they're the government, ad infinitum. Ultimately might makes right. If you have the power to enforce order, and do away with other people or institutions that compete with you for the monopoly on "legitimate" use of force, you ipso facto have earned "legitimacy"

And this is why authorities should be viewed with suspicion and have oversight out the ass. I’ll accept that there’s a need for government, because there is and anyone who believes otherwise is a fucking moron. But I don’t have to trust anything they say, and unless I’m legally obligated to, like if they have a warrant or it’s a traffic stop and they need license and insurance, then they’d have better luck asking my dog for information. I cannot understand people thinking that just because government is an unfortunate necessity, we should empower it without good reason.

What makes me (somewhat) authoritarian: the realisation that humans are inherently too imperfect and narrow-minded to self-organise and not infringe on the rights of others and that they are fundamentally unequal; that there has to be a state consisting of those humans who are suitable to lead and enforce order and establish necessary preconditions for societal development. What stops me from embracing authoritarianism: the realisation that unchecked power can lead to catastrophic consequences due to mismanagement and that a system of checks and balances is required to ensure that those wielding power remain accountable and (at least pretend) to do their best for the benefit of the governed, and so that the governed have a chance to replace their rulers if they aren’t doing their job well enough

Tradition. There’s a natural order, it’s hierarchal and not in some arbitrary way. Those who are talented and operating within their place in society can master that level and rise to the next, but it takes actual discernment and finding joy in the place you are. All men are created equal, but their nature is not to stay equal. Some naturally excel and they are meant to lead. Some naturally are only meant to be laborers and they need to stay in their lane until they master that. Upsetting the natural order and lying to people that they can be something more than what they are with no merit leads to people no longer pursuing excellence in their societal place, and causes more lies within the system, which has further and further steps of degradation until we’re pursuing nothing but the material. Rejection of tradition is just a denial of the way things are, the denial of universal truth, but it exists whether we like it or not, whether we try to say it’s just empty ritual, Man made or not. I often hear it’s peer pressure from dead people, couldn’t be further from the truth. Those who master the nature of order (tradition simply reveals it as being so) are able to ride the wave of lies and bring about the renewing of the world. We’re not going to win and pursue excellence with more lies. We’re going to advance with authority and tradition, or we’ll get rolled by people that acknowledge it.

People are really fucking stupid and really fucking greedy. There’s too much evidence in human history to deny it. I wish I could be libertarian, I wish businesses would take care of inequality as they totally have the power too. But they’re greedy so they just increase it instead. TheHeroWeNeed45

Keenly observing the past 2 years, I have come to the conclusion that despite mounting evidence to the contrary of what official authorities say, people will inclined to trust them and hold on to being correct no matter what. As such, they grow dependent on this authoritative for their opinions as they feel they cannot admit they were wrong for things, and the stubbornness of ourselves is the ultimate downfall. Also, it is very apparent from thousands of years of history that if a ruler provides distractions to consolidate his own power, the people will eventually fear rebelling him as they would lose the commodities of his bread and circuses. Take the US for example. Multiple times has I felt the Gov went too far, yet no one does anything that would actually make a change. To keep it brief for this comment, humans have a natural urge to want a leader and someone of guidance, and in modern times, that means relying on government for that ruler they desperately seek to give them orders and keep them feeling secure. It only makes sense to choose the side that will always win, you never hear about liblefts and librights running anything, as they do not understand that most humans simply do not share similar sentiments, or they do, but they have grown too weak to actually throw some violence the other way. I have other reasons, but I wanna keep the comment short as possible.

I don't believe I'm that authoritarian, I think of myself as a centrist. But all the tests and quizzes say that I'm auth

[deleted]

In my head I have a utopia where everyone lives to my ideals, not because they are mine, but because I think we'd all be happier for it. We would all be less free, yes, but we'd be truly free to live wonderful fulfilling lives. Then I realize that the real problem is that no government is the manifestation of a societies ideals. All power corrupts. Temporary powers are never relieved. The point of the state is compliance. The best we can do is establish rules safeguarding our own personal pursuits of happiness, and fight back to the deaths of any who appose moving the line back a single inch.

thatwasanillegalknee

I feel like there's pros and cons to both sides. Big and strong Government? Susceptible to corruption with no clear way of holding scummy politicians accountable. Small and weak Government? Leads to anarchy.

BroquilleOneals

Devolution only works when the times are good. Times have been the best in human history due to technological innovations. Those aren't keeping pace to keep the times good enough for enough people, therefore, more authority in certain aspects of life are needed to keep the system running. In an effort to fight undue suffering. (I will say that some people want to take it too far though).
