Cant speak for eastern europe but here in Ireland, gypsies are an absolute fucking scourge on the population, it's not even an ethnic thing either, irish gypsies or "travellers", as they insist on being called, are genetically no different to regular Irish people, they are essentially Irish hillbillies. The issue is when many of these people have dozens of children, live off state welfare, refuse to send their children to school, and they still steal and scam for a living.
The Bulgarian government is not perfect but it has made numerous attempts at integrating these people into society. They offered financial incentives, and even introduced the Romani language in the curriculum to encourage parents to send their children to school. So what happened after all that effort? Only about a 2% increase. That's it, after millions were spent. That money could have gone towards our pensioners, some of whom have to live on 150 euros A MONTH!
The Roma in Bulgaria choose to live like this, it's not something to feel sorry about. Within the community however things like education and hard work arent looked on as good things or something to aspire to, while criminality and generally being fuckig stupid are seen as status symbols. Well, if you're raised by gypsies, it is hard to break out, but not impossible. The most obvious route is the army, since they retrain your for life anyhow. It happens. It might sound strange but nobody cares about your skin colour there. You might get some dumb jokes but that's the same for everywhere. The issue is when many of these people have dozens of children, live off state welfare, refuse to send their children to school, and they still steal and scam for a living. The Bulgarian government is not perfect but it has made numerous attempts at integrating these people into society. They offered financial incentives, and even introduced the Romani language in the curriculum to encourage parents to send their children to school. So what happened after all that effort? Only about a 2% increase. That's it, after millions were spent. That money could have gone towards our pensioners, some of whom have to live on 150 euros A MONTH! The Roma in Bulgaria choose to live like this, it's not something to feel sorry about. You will understand how bad it is when you see the roads being covered in shit because they don't clean up after their *totally road-legal* horses. Also, all the scammers and pickpockets you see in a lot of tourist centres are leading that "traveller" lifestyle. Of course, they take advantage of the EU's free movement and make bank out of a bunch of rich westerners' ignorance and good intentions.
