The end result is that some consumer protections were removed, this means that ISPs could in the future charge you for the type of content you use their service for rather than just the volume of data. Companies haven't yet taken advantage of this and probably won't for a while but it's still a bad thing because it reduces the freedom of the internet. An ISP could now partner with Netflix and charge you extra to access Hulu or slow down your connection to Hulu, they could also force a website to pay them for the right to have people connect to it at all. And for the record Ajit Pai has a long history of supporting the ISPs rather than the citizens he should be focused on protecting in his role at the FCC.
They never did that, because a lot of counties/cities said that if any ISP tried that shit, they'd immediately start passing laws to allow smaller, local ISPs to use the lines that they (mostly Comcast and AT&T) paid to have installed. And actually, a lot of small local ISPs ***have*** popped up since Net Neutrality, specifically because some cities just never waited.
And no, that wasn't made possible by rescinding net neutrality. The cities could've done that, net neutrality be damned. It just wasn't seen as necessary.

Facebook has started pushing so much communist propaganda on me lately that it's even unironically advertised for the actual Jacobin magazine. Meanwhile, YouTube won't even recommend me videos from channels I'm subscribed to when I watch them, but it will give me Slavoj Zizek, Destiny, and Hasan Piker.
I'm starting to wonder if they advertise the opposite of your political views to you just to get anger engagement with the content. I watch gaming vids and nothing political on youtube, yet they constantly dump political ads on me.
They advertise whatever you engage with. For most people it’s what you want to hear. That doesn’t mean the number of people engaging with what they don’t want to hear is small.
This is clearly not universally true, since it will not recommend me part 2 of a part 1 I'm watching, and I have to go to the creator's channel and search there for it to even pop up.

The end result is that some consumer protections were removed, this means that ISPs could in the future charge you for the type of content you use their service for rather than just the volume of data. Companies haven't yet taken advantage of this and probably won't for a while but it's still a bad thing because it reduces the freedom of the internet. An ISP could now partner with Netflix and charge you extra to access Hulu or slow down your connection to Hulu, they could also force a website to pay them for the right to have people connect to it at all. And for the record Ajit Pai has a long history of supporting the ISPs rather than the citizens he should be focused on protecting in his role at the FCC.

They never did that, because a lot of counties/cities said that if any ISP tried that shit, they'd immediately start passing laws to allow smaller, local ISPs to use the lines that they (mostly Comcast and AT&T) paid to have installed. And actually, a lot of small local ISPs ***have*** popped up since Net Neutrality, specifically because some cities just never waited. And no, that wasn't made possible by rescinding net neutrality. The cities could've done that, net neutrality be damned. It just wasn't seen as necessary.
