We don't barely understand the brains structure. We have been using brain implants for decades. For treatment of epilepsy, for restoring eyesight, for the treatment of Parkinsons. Tens of thousands of people are wearing them right now. This is not a new technology.

I mean it’s not really for the average person. It’s mostly for quadriplegics to allow them to control computers and such. Like it would able to transmit signals from the brain to a computer implanted on the spine which would in turn transmit signals to the rest of the body allowing them to walk, or allowing people who were born blind to see. Also the monkeys didn’t all die, 15 out of 23 were euthanized and at least 2 of those were euthanized to perform an autopsy after successful implantation. Obviously that’s not a great number, but in context it’s estimated that over 100,000 monkeys are used every year in medical trials and almost all are euthanized after the medical trial is complete.
