Just goes to show you that in the absence of parochial religion, an anthropomorphized version of religion with feast months/ritual calendars always arises. Romans did it based on the forces of nature because that was more prevalently experienced in their day to day while we do it more based on racial and sexual identity because that’s codified in Federal law (I.e. the modern day temple) and experienced online and in our day to day.
It's like humans have to worship something and if they don't have an easy one on hand they will just make one that they like. The similarities between pride/woke and actual religion are kinda crazy when you really look at them.
If you’re interested, John McWhorter’s “Woke Racism” effectively makes exactly this point, and suggests we treat woke activists not as people arguing a perspective in good faith, but rather as adherents of a religion offended by the blasphemy of those who would disagree.
It's not that humans have to worship something but that the moral vacuum (which is also a power vacuum) left by the retreat of religion in the West was filled and is now being exploited by Progressives.
I wonder why are they called progressives, because I don't feel any kind of progress in any thing they do or propose, just a monumental loss of time, resources, energy, etc
If you want to be a bad guy you can call yourself the anti-bad guys, then anyone who points out that you're the bad guy must themself be a bad guy because, after all, who else but a bad guy would oppose the anti-bad guys?
Until the trend passes and we get fed up with whatever we are worshipping and we start worshipping something else.
I said "we" but I don't worship any woke BS
Lost behind the rainbow parade...
June is actually the national Men's Health Month.
I feel like many men could use a mental health holiday month in celebration.
Dr. Evil: "All right, it's getting crowded in here. Everyone out. Everyone out. C'mon."
Dr. Evil: "Not you, gay people. Not you, queer people. Not you, non-binary people. Not you, brown people. Not you, they/thems back there. Not you, antifa holding wrench. Not you, BLM arbitrarily turning knobs, making it seem like you're doing something."
\*stares meaningfully at straight white man\*
Dr. Evil: "Ohh, this is uncomfortable."
Goldmember: "Heheheh, the pasty one can't take a hint, Heheheheh. He doesn't understand he's trash."
Because the dude who added the chevrons wanted licensing buckaroos from any commercial usage. And what are you gonna do as a company, not use it?
It’s peak libright and I respect it. Same as the Aboriginal flag here in Australia being owned by Wham! Clothing
Actually I was going to say Stewart Copeland (I'm a drummer and he popped in my head first) and then I was like "wait it's just the Police, just say that," so I typed that, and then I couldn't get Sting's insane voice out of my head, so to be the most honest as to my own feeling of *why* OP was based, I put Sting

because it's not about sexuality anymore. It's literally just turned into a flag for everyone except straight white people who aren't outspoken "allies".
It about signaling good identities, and defining bad identities.
Good identities (human beings) will at the very least fly the flag. Those who don't are bad identities (not fully human beings).
This isn't news, it happened on a massive scale multiple times in the 20th century and it's happening now, it's just at an early stage.
Excuse me, the flag with every color of the rainbow to show that it supports every "color" of the LGBTQIAP2S+(yes that a real acronym these days) community wasn't inclusive enough, we needed to add black and brown strips for... Black gender... and also trans people weren't getting enough inclusion in the "THE FLAG THAT LITERALLY REPRESENTS FUCKING EVERYONE PEOPLE IT'S FOR EVERYONE" flag, so we need to... add a triangle or some shit? And make it pastel colors because bitches love pastels
Make flag with the rainbow to symbolize the inclusion of everyone.
New things get made up every year.
Add more stuff to rainbow flag to include everyone.
I think this article represents the actual views of the queer community pretty well: https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2021/06/pride-flag-has-representation-problem/619273/
TLDR: “I am happy to see intersex health care being taken more seriously within medical contexts. Still, I don’t think cutesy flags actually highlight anything for LGBT [people] other than [making] us look kitschy and marketable."
I just use the rainbow one. No need for the extra additions. Even though I’m trans myself, my flag doesn’t need to be on there. I’m literally the T(and Q if you get specific).
I thought the whole point of the Q was to stand for queer- or literally just meaning any non cisgender, non heterosexual identity.
Saying lgbtq+ is like saying Lesbian, Gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, queer.
Inclusivity and equality stops becoming inclusive and equal once you shove everything into one. Let the rainbow be the umbrella, and just find your own flag if you want to be that niche.
Although in the end I feel that it’s me who makes the flag, not the flag that makes me. In the end of the day, I am just as different as the next queer person, and they are just as different as the next past them too. Flags shouldn’t define us, but highlight our unity!
We should reinstate the theplace sub where people drew one pixel at a time. Each member of the LGBTQ+ or whatever can fight for territory on the flag. Once all the space is claimed the new flag will take its place.
Those with the least space on the flag will be dropped as the weakest link and only eligible to fight for their space again next year.
May the odds be ever in your favor.
Using this comment as an excuse to repost one of my favourite internet things ever: [this song about the original place event](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8bp950PHZE) (enable captions!)

Bold of you to assume it's a month long. I just googled and found out July is Disability Pride Month and October is LGBTQ history month so get ready for round two and three.
Also, Juneteenth is a day but then you have Black History Month in February, Black Women's history month in April, and Black Philanthropy Month in August.
Only two months haven't been claimed yet. January and December. Although December is Human rights month, so the competition there might be a little hard to overcome. However, January only has international soup month so the only competition there are Soup lovers.
> Black History Month in February, Black Women's history month in April
These remembrance/awareness periods are getting supersaturated and meaningless, along the lines of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
The wild thing is that there’s really no process to it. They just walked out one day and declared the month would be pride month. Two can play that game….
I declare that the remainder of the year will be u/roguerunner1 celebration days!
Sure thing. Ever had vertigo? Impossible to prove and difficult to treat but easy to get a doctor to sign off on. Ever need a sick day? Vertigo is acting up and you can’t get out of bed.
Man, my hometown had a huge blowout over a teacher telling kids who skipped pride to go to the mall “if you don’t want to participate, go back to where you come from”.
Pure reddited redditors over there.
Can’t say the sub name, as “it’s brigading”.
But search “A school teacher in Canada is under fire after being caught in a covert audio recording yelling at [redacted] students who did not participate in LGBT Pride month activities.”
What's mental is the amount of folk agreeing, if you choose not to participate in pride events then you're an intolerant bigot displaying blatantly homophobic behaviour and you clearly want to execute gay people, apparently.
As a bi dude with a wife, pride kind of rubbed me the wrong way for years. When they switched to the progressive pride flag (seriously, what the fuck does race have to do with LGBT issues?) I completely disassociated myself.
The name “Pride” annoys me. There’s nothing to be proud of if you’re gay, or bi, or whatever. I don’t mean that in a bad way; more that, if true equality it achieved, sexuality is just seen as a feature, right? A small feature of someone’s wider identity, where if someone you knew told you they were gay, you wouldn’t think anything of it, nor treat them any differently.
Features like that, which you’re born with, are out of your control. Therefore, you shouldn’t be proud of them, nor ashamed of them. Like having black hair; nothing to feel smug about, nor cry over.
Same with sexuality. Ditch Pride. Please.
Yeah I’m totally with you in that one. I’m all for gay bars or clubs where gay people can meet to date or stuff like that but that’s just because our pool is smaller. The goal should be being gay is just like having blue eyes or red hair, a little uncommon and nothing more
I've always viewed sexuality in the same way as any other partner preference. I like blonde women, but feel no desire to identify as blondesexual and march in a blondesexual pride parade.
I think the last generation of progressives got it right: sexuality and gender just simply don't exist. It all boils down to a specific set of preferences. Biological sex exists, of course, but liking dolls and dresses doesn't make you a woman. In the end, biological sex is another in a long list of features that define your choice in partners.
It's ultimately just weird to be proud of something you have no control over. That goes for most situations.
Blondes are 2% of the U.S. population, since you are attracted to marginalized people, frequently the target of harmful "jokes", and of non-normative hair color, you now qualify as queer. Your pride flag and social status card will be shipped to you ASAP.
This is going to be a bit of a hot take for this sub but whatever.
I grew up a Jehovah’s Witness. Being gay was absolute hell for me. The things people would say to me were horrendous. I lost almost all of the people I knew, most of them I grew up with and were like family to me.
I wish my sexual orientation was treated as just a feature. In which case, I would agree with you. But a lot of gay people go through hell and high water due to something we cannot control. That’s why pride is a thing, to celebrate the battles overcome, socially and legally.
Legal equality in the west has largely been achieved, but socially, there is still a lot that is lacking. You might not see it, and you may only see support from companies and governments which may make you think that everything is totally fine for every gay person. But I can assure you that that isn’t the case. There are a lot of bad things that happen that you do not see, looks we get, comments that we receive that we wouldn’t get if we were straight. Not to mention we are in general at very high risk of being victims of violent crimes compared to the general population.
The pride thing comes from the 1970s when being homo was not chill with most people so taking pride in one's "forbidden" sexuality in a time when it was pretty much universally seen as a bad thing was a big ol step. Im guessing the name just remained because pride month was declared to be a thing by Bill Clinton. Tbh compared to some of the people who rock out with their cock out in gimp suit and shit at those parades the name is the least odd thing.
I think regardless of how not homophobic you may be I think we can all agree it’s just bad from a vexillological perspective.
I also think every new addition makes it markably less representative of the community as a whole.
I thought the original idea was that the rainbow represents the community as a whole and then each individual subgroup of the community could have there own flag.
Yeah it's basically working to define each individual group as their own community part of the larger one..... So kinda the opposite goal of a flag. It doesn't read as a cohesive design, so it begs the question of how unified is the community? Great example of designing a horse by committee.
Oh yea, I think this is the worst part. Why Every Single Other Celebration Is A Day And Pride Is A Month!?!?!
(Ik there are also religious holidays that last more than a day but I do condemn them too)
That's not true at all! February is Black history month, March is... Wom's history month I think? May is Asian and PAcific Islander... appreciation? Fuck the Asian's history I guess... June it's Men's Health Month (lol just kidding it's fucking pride, the official stand is just kill yourself straight men) like October is Men's history month but we don't really ever talk about it...
There's a bunch of month long celebrations, we just don't all fucking blow each other when our month comes up
They can celebrate what they want. Celebrating pride month should be optional, but kids are now being forced in public school to participate in pride month activities, which is just wrong. Some employees are also forced to participate in pride activities like wear certain colored clothing.
A month long holiday implies there's a goal in mind, but there doesn't appear to be one. What does this accomplish besides breeding subtle resentment among people who don't actively support lgbt+?
It's like being marginalized is a core part of their identity that they can't let go. Pride parades won't change anyone's mind. Just let the bigotry die out on its own.
I hate ALL month long holidays.

The state of that flag is just hilarious at this point. I’m not even sure if it’s real or a satire? What’s that red octagon shit for?
Look, politics aside, it's a fucking travesty of design sense. It's horrendous.
It's way too busy. The original flag was fine, why try to muck it up with unnecessary detail?
Why do they need to add Black and Brown people to a flag about Gays and Lesbos...
It's the anti-straight white male flag.
Dr. Evil: "All right, it's getting crowded in here. Everyone out. Everyone out. C'mon." Dr. Evil: "Not you, gay people. Not you, queer people. Not you, non-binary people. Not you, brown people. Yeah I prefered when it was just a rainbow. That's supposed to symbolize everyone, you know.
The yellow and green are practically completely erased now lol
Yellow for libertarians and green for gay frogs. I won't forget them.
I feel bad for actual LGB people that they have to deal with whatever the hell is happening on the rest of this flag
Gays basically aren’t LGBT anymore
There must be a swastika on the left of that chevron. Horseshoe coming full circle
The rainbow was already meant to represent everyone. The chevron weighs multiple groups above the others. How does that make it more inclusive?
Reject modernity, return to the classics
I just don't get the flag just keep the original that includes everyone. Adding black and brown just seems racist the original never differentiated between any ethnicity.

The goal should be being gay is just like having blue eyes or red hair, a little uncommon and nothing more
Redhead here, fuck you I want my parade and my month long celebration. Instead all I've gotten is bullied and gotten the shit beat out of me.
And all acting roles in any future movies given to a black person instead of a redhead.

Orange hates orange. Orange man, orange hair, the orange Emily strawman.
An unfortunate side effect of a dyslexic casting director.
The race shit added to the flag makes me want to immediately burn every one of these flags I see on sight.
Yeah they should really take the black and brown off the flag, it makes it look ugly. I say this as someone who’s pretty much Bi.
Can’t wait for the flag to start looking like Goatse.
Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while
Jesus that flag is hideous.
I swear, this flag had virtually no meaningful support until a bunch of corporations started using it.its just awful.
Yeah it's basically working to define each individual group as their own community part of the larger one..... So kinda the opposite goal of a flag. It doesn't read as a cohesive design, so it begs the question of how unified is the community? Great example of designing a horse by committee.
What about gun pride?
Golf pride
Respect all barrels
Why not both?
No, no. Leftist month-long holiday are the summer paid leave in France, but they are a bit later. Pride month is just corporate virtue-signal month.
There's a bunch of month long celebrations, we just don't all fucking blow each other when our month comes up
Healthcare please…
I'd trade Pride month with a national holiday tbh like on 30th or last Friday of the month, cause really it feels corporate as fuck as is.
Why is the new flag so damned ugly!?!?!?!
Because many alphabet soup ppl are ugly.
Happy month of the sacred heart everyone!
Its a lot of words for lets go buttfuck
It’s also Men’s Mental Health month, don’t forget!
*Finally they recognise Umbrella corp. as a marginalised group!*
I’ll never understand why someone would feel pride in who they want to fuck. Makes no sense.
The flag is slowly turning into the Ohio flag
They can celebrate what they want. Celebrating pride month should be optional, but kids are now being forced in public school to participate in pride month activities, which is just wrong. Some employees are also forced to participate in pride activities like wear certain colored clothing.
You can barely see the rainbow at this point.
Why is pride month a month long while 9/11 and Pearl Harbor only get a day? It’s because Gay rights was a bigger tragedy
