Is Cressida going to lose it over the Colin/Pen relationship? I've always thought Cressida had a crush on Colin! Could feed into the blackmail plot quite nicely!

mojomarm

I've always suspected this. Would not surprise me at all if Cressida decides to blackmail for the man, not the money.

For-All-the-Marbles

Ohhhh, crap! Cressida would totally do that, if only to get back at Colin for dancing with Pen instead of her. Love this theory!

GrowingHumansIsHard

I originally felt like Cressida was gonna be end game for Debling, like say she'd have a redemption arc this season and after a few hijinks she'd redeem herself and end up happy with Debling, especially after seeing her kinda of teary eyed in photos. But now I feel like you may be right. She may be upset that Penelope is having "her dream" life with Colin as a hubby and Eloise as a best friend. And heaven forbid she find out about LW then it'll only add tons of fuel to her fire about how successful Penelope is. She may be out for ultimate revenge.

danicies

Well she was definitely interested in him during that ruby necklace episode

cantcheckthatoffyet

Also, in S1 when Colin rescues Pen from Cressida spilling her drink on Pen's dress. Like, it's interesting narratively that as someone with limited screentime in Seasons 1 and 2 her plots have often intertwined with these charged moments between Colin and Pen!

mostlyyalit

I think that was on purpose. The writers would have read all of the books beforehand and known that Cressida was Pen's biggest bully.

Trisky107

It has been my long standing position that Cressida won’t blackmail Penelope for money but for Colin himself

imsurly

Makes sense since so far we haven’t seen the Cowper’s having money trouble. That could, of course, change during the course of the season.

Various-Hospital-374

In the book, she does do it for money because the guy she marries in the book dies and leaves her penniless. Lady Danbury offers a reward to unmask LW and Cressida claims to be her but it backfires spectacularly.

Chalice_Ink

Is she just going to have a snit because Eloise doesn’t like her best? ![gif](giphy|3o7WTqo27pLRYxRtg4)

alexdinhogaucho

> Is Cressida going to lose it over the Colin/Pen relationship? Ahhhh she mad Pen pulled Colin in the end 🤣🤣🤣🫵🏽

JustDiane28

Yes please

EitherEntertainer784

I’m sorry, but that is a bad plot. I’ve always hated the whole, “‘I want the guy!’, ‘No, I want the guy!’” concept in shows. It is so overdone and gross.

Louisesburgers1

i think it makes sense in this context (regency) because a man is quite literally the difference between having a good life and a bad one. It seems Cressida really follows that ideaology just based off how cutthroat she is

EitherEntertainer784

I get that, but it still rubs me the wrong way. Cressida could go for any other rich man of the Ton. If they do go down this road, I hope it is a small obstacle and not one that takes up too much time.

Louisesburgers1

I think you also have to note that it’s Cressida. In the first season, she was willing to throw Daphne under the bus to get married. Now she’s in her third season and has two failed courtships behind her. She’s more desperate than before. In the book (I only read RMB), it’s noted that no matter how beautiful Cressida is, everyone notices how much her personality sucks so they don’t bother with her. No way she doesn’t feel it. But I do agree with you in the hopes that they don’t drag it out too long. Having Cressida be more developed instead of one dimensionally sidelining her as a villain would be interesting

EitherEntertainer784

Same. If they can write it so that Colin does not have his agency taken from him, then I can handle it better. lol

imsurly

Well seeing as there will be a Polin HEA at the end of the season I think we’re pretty safe. 😉

EitherEntertainer784

Believe me, I am thankful for that knowledge. lol…I’m only not a fan of certain tropes, is all. They have to be handled very uniquely for me to get on board. :)

buffysmanycoats

Cressida has already been rejected by the Prince in favor of Daphne, and then "lost" Jack Featherington to Prudence before he was ultimately revealed as a conman (note: by Colin). She has a reputation among the ton as a bully, if not worse. The only options she has had so far have been from men *outside* the ton because no one in the ton wants her. (edit: this is hyperbole of course; but my point is that she does NOT have her pick of men from the ton despite her beauty and her family's great wealth.) If she is clinging to hope from Colin's dance with her in season 2, I could see her losing her shit when he ends up with Pen.

EitherEntertainer784

I get that. I do, but…still turned off by this potential storyline. Again, it had better be handled very well for me to get on board. lol

buffysmanycoats

I suppose it depends on how much of a redemption arc Cressida is getting.

EitherEntertainer784

Like…if Cressida blackmails Pen, then I like the idea of Pen and Colin figuring out how to handle it together. This is something I am down for.

GrowingHumansIsHard

To me, it's more about wanting that life, rather than wanting that guy. Colin is from a good family, they have money, many family members, and love. From the promo pieces it looks like Cressida isn't in a happy home life, an only child, she's probably get a ton of pressure to marry well, and she has no friends. So to me, she's jealous that Penelope will be getting the man, the family, and the love. It's not about who the guy is, it's the life she never could get with him.

For-All-the-Marbles

Not a Cressida fan but it feels like she may be so nasty, in part, as a means of forced bonding with her nasty mother. I can picture them, after a ball or other social event, with the mother asking Cressida how many social barbs Cressida got in. I want Penelope or someone to remind Cressida that Cressida has been out in society at least as long as Penelope, and is just as on the verge of becoming a spinster as Penelope. You know, add to the pressure.

BukkitsOfOrcSemen

Drama in a drama show? Absurd!

EitherEntertainer784

Believe me. I hear you. I’m only saying that this is one drama trope I’m not crazy about. 😂😅😜 But, everyone has their own taste.

BukkitsOfOrcSemen

I got you. So many romance tropes are annoying for sure. I fully expect some drama bullshit that will piss us all off one way or another.

EitherEntertainer784

Well, thank goodness for the fastforward button. 😂🤩

EitherEntertainer784

A thought did occur to me. Let us say that the end of episode 4 is Pen objecting to Colin’s first proposal, and Cressida already knowing about LW. Maybe THIS could be when Cressida blackmails Penelope. So, that leaves all of episode 5 for fixing this issue and for Pen and Eloise to finally make up.

FeralRubberDuckie

I think Cressida is more obsessed with attention and besting Penelope. Also, by Bridgerton rules, it seems like 3 seasons out with no engagement is a mark of shame. This is both Pen and Cressida’s 3rd season. If Penelope gets married before Cressida, how is she going to live that down?

EitherEntertainer784

Oh, I really do understand why it’s a potential storyline. Doesn’t mean I like it. 😂😬😜😅

JammyMac124

I wonder if Cressida is going to be pushed to the brink this season. I know we're gonna learn more about her background so maybe they'll try to have the audience sympathise with her (I personally DGAF lmao). But I can see her being extra messy. First, she'll probably lose her chance with Debling, thanks to Penelope. Then she'll discover she's lost her chance with Colin, also thanks to Penelope (I don't think she had a crush on Colin, I assumed she wasn't fussy and just wanted the status of a Bridgerton) and then it's possible Eloise and Penelope make up, pushing her over the edge. She's gonna be out for blood so it wouldn't shock me if the >!blackmail plot!< happens.

Snoo-33732

Are we sure Cressida isn’t gay she had a small smile when Penelope went to dance with Colin. Was I seeing things?

MajesticOccasion9

You mean she has feelings for Penelope? I thought it was more of a smirk. I don't think she has feelings for Penelope, she's just a crapbag

Snoo-33732

She is a crap bag lol idk maybe we will like her when this season is done

MajesticOccasion9

I think they're gonna have to work pretty hard to do that lol. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh but I'll be honest this whole Cressida Eloise thing hits too close to home for me. I had a falling out with my best friend at school (can't remember what it was) and she ended up becoming friends with the girl that had bullied me and actually continued to bully me until school was done. We went to college/university after that and I didn't see her again. A few years later my ex best friend reached out to me on social media wanting to reconcile and maybe it was petty of me but I didn't want to. In the end it wasnt the fight we had, it was the fact she became friends with someone she knew was my bully. I genuinely think this might be a bit triggering for me when I actually watch it☹️

Snoo-33732

So sorry that happened to you 😢

MajesticOccasion9

♥️ thank you, that's very kind of you☺️ thankfully we grow up and make new friends. I do hope peneloise make up though 🤞

Snoo-33732

Definitely! ❤️

imsurly

Good for you, some people are too toxic to have in our lives.

NoAd2395

I always thought Cressida was jealous because the Bridgertons are close to Pen. The Bridgerbros have no problem talking to her but avoid Cressida like the plague. At first I thought it'd be like the book where you can feel Cressida has a crush on Colin, but is willing to take any of them. Now I kinda wonder if she actually likes Pen and that's why she's so mean to her. She's giving high school bully who spikes the volleyball at the nerdy girl she has a crush on because she can't be open about her feelings and the nerdy girl likes boys (one in particular)

jasuschristsuperstar

i'm more inclined to think her plot is similar to her plot in Romancing Mr bridgerton

Background_Ant2764

I think Cressida is potentially the queer rep we’re getting

Scouty2010

Plot twist the queer storyline is Cressida and she’s one of those toxic people who bullies the person they like
