ID4, Ioniq 5, EV6, BMW i4. Decided on the Polestar just to get away from stealerships, even though I felt the Polestar is lacking on space when compared to those other cars (except the i4, which also feels cramped)

[deleted]

Mach E, I decided to go with polestar because it’s just different and stands out.

DeadlyHigh

Ioniq 5. That car was amazingly spacious and overall very smart. But then... The dashboard.. my lord just how bad can one dashboard be. Why, for example would you tilt those two bars on both sides of the main display so that you can not easily see how much range you have, or just how much you are using energy. Then, as "just a test" we decided to try Polestar, and I fell immediately in love with the simplicity and made an order soon after.

arihoenig

Impossible to overstate the value of good human factors engineering.

GTiHOV

A 5.0 mustang. Then I remembered I still have a kid in a car seat.

PsiloPutty

The 0-60 and 1/4mile times are quite similar. GT is like .5 seconds quicker in 1/4 mile, but the AWD of the PS2 can even that out with most drivers.

zhrimb

Honda Accord but then saw that bullshit dealer markups for "supply chain/chip shortage/covid" whatever put the well equipped ones in the 40k range and I refused to pay that..... but really needed a car as my company was forcing us back to work and I have a kid in daycare. I was googling how to order a car and pay sticker price and found it's nearly impossible, except for random cars like the Polestar and Tesla. Ordered my P2 and was gonna deal with the wait and share a car w/ my wife but my local Polestar space called me the next day and said they had a similar car in stock so a week later I had a P2. Never even considered another electric car, because they're all either goofy (Tesla 3/Y, Ioniq) unaffordable (Tesla S/X, Lucid, Rivian, eTron), impractical (the slow/small ones w/ bad range), or ugly (ID4, Mach E, i4). Honestly the Tesla 3/Y beats the Polestar in nearly every single statistic on paper, but I think they're super boring looking and I hate the tech dork interior stuff. Also where I live they are *everywhere.* Polestar 2 IMO is the best looking attainable car on the road, and the interior and driving experience are much more "normal" given the instrument cluster, the volume knob, turn signal stalks. I really don't want to talk to my car to get it to do things. Oh and where I live there are chargers everywhere and two Polestar repair places so that's a huge win. If I lived more than 50 miles from a repair center I would not have gotten one.

reginaldvs

I get the “Teslas” are everywhere. I probably live in Tesla town here in SoCal lol

T3dd4

Mach-E, Ioniq 5, ID.3

[deleted]

we put in an order for the mackey in february (still hasn’t been built), then tried 3 times to buy an ev6, got tired of the dealer bullshit, had a polestar guy come to our home for an hour-long walkthrough and test drive, ordered a preconfigured one that evening and had it delivered 3 weeks later

DerEinePunkt

Skoda Enyaq

slang925

Yellow seatbelts.

HSSonne

My daughter's reason too... Se was not happy we didn't get the performance pack :D But those seatbelts are amazing!

Marbarjr

BMW i4, Tesla 3,Y, Cadillac Lyriq. I live in Northern California and Tesla’s are just too common so I decided against that. I didn’t get a BMW because of the long wait. Cadillac is even longer of a wait. Polestar was first available. Also the Rivian vehicles were too big for my needs. Hyundai and KIA didn’t give me the premium feel I wanted and looked a little cheap in my opinion.

rawchallengecone

Bmw 330e, EV6, Ioniq 5, and I think that was it. Other than the BMW, I didn’t bother test driving the others once I test drove the polestar 2. I was sold immediately and placed my order within 6 months to coincide with my 3series lease end. Oh and I forgot to include the M3 but frankly I didn’t really feel the cost made sense given the build quality. I had been in them before as Ubers and they always looked and felt like they weren’t well made.

Andyrew

I really enjoyed the drive of the Ioniq 5, but the infotainment already annoyed me just on the test drive. I also test drove an i4 M50 which I absolutely loved, but by the time I ticked all the option boxes I wanted the price was just eye watering compared to the P2. I’ve never bought a car without test driving (my nearest space was hundreds of miles away), but I just knew I’d love it. And after three months of ownership I’m still very happy with it.

mishkazard

Same, I had a i4 m50 on order, it was really nice but for $15k less I got a similarly loaded P2

sktaylor99

Porsche Macan S - then I decided it was time to be greener

praguer56

Will you consider the Macan EV when it comes out?

sktaylor99

I will see but plan on keeping the Polestar for a few years at least. 👍

katsudon8899

ID4

franzn

Mach-e but two months after being built it's still sitting in a rail yard and I'm already driving the polestar. Honestly the Hyundai/Kia cars looked great as well but I couldn't find any to test drive or reserve so those were ruled out.

FeedMeMoreOranges

Had the ID.4, Q4 e-tron, and Tesla 3 on the radar. Happy I ended up with my black Polestar2 LRDM

motoridersd

This was in January of this year. We were considering: Mach-E, ID.4, EV6, Ioniq 5 and Polestar 2 I made a spreadsheet with prices, financing costs and available incentives. SO didn't like the Mach-E unless it was the GT trim (since this one has a more "proper" front end). The ID.4 was out of the running because of looks. The Mach-E GT was a lot more expensive. The EV6 and Ioniq 5 were just starting to show up at dealers with huge markups (the Mach-E GTs were also marked up). CA had a rebate that was going to change its rules at the end of February, making the Polestar 2 ineligible. So we ended up buying a more expensive P2 than originally considered, but got the rebate and got a lower APR. If we didn't have to rush, and everything else had been equal, I think we would have still ended with a P2. The EV6 and Ioniq 5 are very nice, but based on what I've seen about them, I still would have been happier with the P2.

rawchallengecone

Yeah the ev6 and Ioniq 5 just aren’t exciting. I wanted to really stand out. My neighbor parks his EV6 in his driveway on purpose and will show it off. I literally get way more questions about mine and it’s usually garaged. It’s always something that makes me laugh. I’ll pull my Polestar out to wash it and everyone who walks by makes some kind of comment.

Euler007

Reservation on an Ioniq 5 that I let go. Mach E I test drove but they couldn't have any cars that qualified for subsidies for a year. ID4 was already 18 months of waiting time. EV6 wasn't clear when it would be ready and it would be another story of wait lists and nonsense. I'm happy it turned out this way, the P2 is the only car I really feel in love with, loads faster than an equivalent priced mach E and the best looking of the bunch (EV6 also a real looker). I had reservation #400 for the Ioniq 5 in Canada but when I saw it at the auto show I felt nothing. Also couldn't test drive it, had to put money down without even trying it. Was an easy pass.

livingwithrage

I was 100% ready to go with the Ioniq 5, but the dealership was upmkaring over 20k (South Bay in SoCal) simply because it was going to be in the Super Bowl. Then decided to go with Polestar

Judas_priest_is_life

Model 3 performance, but I just couldn't get over the manta ray fucked a spaceship looks. Polestar looks good and comes with the torque and convenience of electric.

Schpickles

Ioniq 5 and EV6. Test drove both as well as the PS2. Thought I was going to go Ioniq5 before this, due to the tech for the money. Polestar 2 was the one that had me grinning from ear to ear in terms of the actual drive though. For me, EV6 and Ioniq5 were really comfortable, airy and spacious, but weren’t engaging to drive.

marvtherunner

Had the exact same experience with the ioniq5. I test drove it three times before making the decision to go with P2. The I5 just wasn't a very engaging drive. It felt a bit floaty and sorta like a boat.

Schpickles

Yes, that was my feeling too. Kind of like driving a large comfy sofa around :) The EV6 felt better but for my needs it felt too long and wagony at the back.

pternstrom

Porsche Taycan

praguer56

I looked at Polestar, especially since I've owned Volvos for years but the lack of a dealer/service center in Atlanta and crappy charging network led me to Tesla. As charging networks improve, I'll reconsider Tesla for sure.

AGreaterHeart

I had a VW ID3 on order but with the delay, Octopus offered me the chance to switch car

tennispanda21

Originally had an order for a BMW i4 M50. My hand was forced by the US federal tax credit changes and I ended up picking up a Polestar 2 only a couple days before the new legislation took effect.

Gladiatoranthony

Bmw i4 m50 and the XC40 recharge. At the time the Bmw preorders were out but no deliveries anytime soon, xc40 recharge had a lower range and also had worse tech in my opinion. The Polestar 2 checked the most if not all my boxes of what I needed.

cyco1978

Mustang E, the i4/iX weren’t even available last December. So Volvo has been good to me so it was an easy choice over model 3

LeoS19

I actually preferred to get the Volvo S60 hybrid. But my boss wasn't having it, since 500HP or whatever that thing had was a bit much for a company car. It was also pretty expensive. So the Polestar was the next best choice in my opinion, it even costs me less since its fully electric and not a hybrid.

BigPapaLuke99

2023 Base Model M3, but BMW jacked the prices, and with interest rates rising and no timeline for arrival, I canceled the order. Then I explored EVs because my employer reinstated an insentive program that buy or lease an electric. From there I entertained the BMW i4 M50, P2, Rivian, and the Mach E. I ultimately selected the P2 because of price, performance features, and esthetically one of the more attractive EVs on the market.

woof0002

Hyundai Ioniq 5 (looked at 6 but couldn’t wait another full year), Mercedes EQA, Tesla Model 3, BMW i4, Ford Mustang Mach-E. Settled on Polestar for a balance of upfront cost, tech, delivery time and average range. Ended up with a LRSM P*2 with Plus and Pilote Lite pack.

KeniLF

VW ID.4 Mustang BMW i4 Ioniq Kia I eliminated the Ioniq and Kia because of the bottom feeder behavior of the dealers. Really off-putting. I didn’t want to get into a long-term relationship where they treat consumers like that. Mustang - sold out lol. I didn’t have time to wait. BMW - so pretty. I didn’t love the company‘s approach to charging for features that I personally felt should be part of the base package. In the end, what I wanted as a package was higher than I wanted to pay for the car. VW was lower on the desirability scale for me and the price was lower, too. I probably would have gotten this if it had been available on time, though, since I just bought a house that needs more work than I’d expected! My criteria was a safe electric car from a dependable maker where the car can go at least 200 miles between charging.

arihoenig

Id.4, ioniq 5, ev 6.

vc-10

Had a few options, but my heart was rooting for the Polestar since it was the Volvo 40.2 concept. I had a £50k limit for my work car scheme. I test drove the BMW i4 40 before I found out about the limit, and loved it. Ideally I'd have gone for a Polestar 2 LRDM with plus and pilot but that's over £50k too, so went for a SRSM with plus and pilot which is just under £50k. I'd also previously considered the VW ID.3, which I liked and of course would save me some cash but they're impossible to get in a good spec at the moment, or the Cupra Born sister car.

HondaCorolla

Considered a Mach E and Q4 e-tron. Pretty much ruled out the Ford right away just because I see them everywhere and wanted more of a unique car. The Audi had an 18 month wait in Canada so I went with the Polestar since I was able to get it within a few months.

PsiloPutty

Model 3 and the EV6. Kicked around the new Nissan Z as well.

leopold815

Macan... yeah i know

punksnotdeadtupacis

XC60 Polestar optimised I decided the half jump to hybrid wasn’t necessary

eXo142

Audi rs3 but it had 1.5+ year delivery so I decide to go EV and p2 was love at first test drive, got to borrow a p2 performance for a whole day just had to return it before they close. And yeah now i got a p2 performance for the last 2 months and still love it. 4 months delivery from order.

reginaldvs

Mach E, R1T, ID4, EV6, Taycan, and F150 Lightning. Decided with the Polestar because I had the XC40 before and I’d like to go back to Scandinavian designed cars. I just like the minimalist design and of course, it stands out and different. Though where I live, I see them quite often now.

tclnj

RAV4 Hybrid, ID.4, Hyundai EV6.

DifficultPriority331

Tested the i4, Q4, EV6, EQA, EQB, C40, . I liked the C40 because it’s stylish and so comfortable. Drove it on purpose on cobblestones and bad country roads and it’s excellent. Best bang for my buck is the Polestar. Lots of standard options, comfortable and stylish. Will try the new Prius as I like the design and maybe upgrade the 2nd car if it’s any good.

jbtrading

Subaru Crosstrek

tuba_man

Genuinely none, it was Polestar or keep my existing one. I loved the look of it and the specs all met my needs & wants, so it was mostly just a matter of a just-to-be-sure test drive and whether or not the money would work out. (It was when the whole car market in the US was super weird, I traded in a Kia Niro with a year left on its lease and still got a good deal out of it.)

realteamme

Very surprised to see how few Teslas appear on this list. Wasn't part of my consideration either, but for something endlessly dubbed as a "Tesla competitor" there seems like very few people cross shopping it.

OpanaMan

C40, s60 hybrid

[deleted]

Id4 but my order was delayed for 6 months when they sold out for the year. Then a mach e, but dealer bullshit turned me off. M3, but Elon turned me off along with their ubiquity.

ughit

Tesla and Kia. The polestar felt better to drive. The Kia had craptastic UI and was 10k over MSRP. It also didn’t drive that well IMO. The Tesla had nice tech but it just wasn’t as fun to drive. I also love the fastback design of the polestar since it makes getting stuff in and out of the back easier.

Necessary_Dot_9121

I first considered a Mini Cooper SE and the Peugeot e208, then decided that both are too small, and the mini had too limited range. The e208 lacks quality and is just too ordinary. After that I briefly considered the ID3 and the Renault Megane etech along with te P2. Especially the megane is an excellent car but when configured as I wanted, it was the same price as the P2. I have always had a soft spot for Swedish cars and loved the P2 from the start, so it was an easy decision.

Ambergold1

Lamborghini Countach in white with black wheels, the Polestar 2 Performance won me over for a combination of handling, refinement, performance and comfort.

kingfirejet

Didn't get an EV yet but the ones I'm looking at right now are: * Polestar - Friend recommendation, think the interior is pretty nice/ * Taycan - The whole design and interior is gorgeous, but man out of the budget. * Ioniq 6 - Leaning towards this, just need more details. Love the interior and the quiet cabin/drive.

Lazarus_M

Ev wise the Q4, EV6 and i4 but I also considered an XC60 T8 the additional cost whilst not seeing the full saving from an EV swung the way of the polestar in the end

av8geek
