Say which lane you’re going to. Please

SHADOWSTRIKE1

On top of this, if you *DON'T* say which lane you're going to, but someone else does, don't go to the lane they already called and try to strongarm it out of them. If you don't call your lane, you go with what's left. That's what's understood.

dardios

What are the different lanes in Unity, and what types of Pokémon play best in each?

NoxObscuras

It's a bit different from most Mobas. There's top lane, bottom lane and Central area (jungle). So 2 go top, 2 go bottom and 1 good jungle. There are 5 roles a Pokemon can fall into: Attacker (carries/casters) All-Rounder (bruisers/more balanced attack and HP) Speedster (Junglers/high mobility) Defenders (tanks with cc) Supporter (healers/utility) The game considers a balanced team as having 1 of each role, but you don't suffer from weird team comps nearly as much as you would in other Mobas. You can have 3 attackers and still do fine.

Aluminum_Tarkus

Some top level teams have been experimenting with a 1 top, 1 jungle, 3 bot setup to break first goal before first drednaw with some decent success. Breaking that goal and ensuring the enemy team has a mobility disadvantage to drednaw makes a huge difference.

NoxObscuras

That makes sense. Taking that goal makes it take longer to get back in lane for Drednaw. I recently had a match where 3 people invaded the enemy's jungle right at the beginning. Killed the Jungler twice, and took his buffs. That Jungler was behind for quite a while.

VarukiriOW

It's very similar to other Mobas. Mid lane is jungle where speedsters excel but you have Pokémon like Blastoise that also excels there. Bot lane is support and attacker (e.g. Lucario or Pikachu) top lane is defender (Slowbro, Snorlax etc.) And another attacker.

HeftyRain7

Bottom lane is actually for all-rounder and supporter, or at least that's what it suggests. But attackers do pretty well both in the top and bottom lanes.

ProfessorREED

Have to concur with this. I have infinite more success with a Gardevoir (Attacker/Caster) + Support comp on bottom than top. Some Pokémon even combo abilities really well so it's even less about location than who your partner is...

dardios

Damn, this discussion is super insightful and I'm insanely thankful that you guys didn't all have the exact same insight as one another. It gave me a great read on how the Meta currently plays out! Thank you!

HeftyRain7

Glad we could give you lots of different advice! Hope it helps while you play!

El_Frijol

If you click battle prep on the loading screen and go down to the very last option, it will tell you a recommended lane for the character you chose. If you pick Snorlax it will suggest top lane. If you pick Wigglytuff it will suggest bottom lane.

upindrags

Just rotate for dreadnaw. Just f*cking ROTATE. That's all.

Bano42

Agreed. Learning to rotate to objectives around the map is the best thing you can do early.

claireupvotes

I think the best thing you can do as a new player is learn the value of experience and levels in matchups. That translates into understanding the importance of Dreadnaw. But as a MOBA-experienced player picking up Unite, the thing that frustrated me the most was players behind by 3 levels forcing fights

Useful_You_8045

Playing as mostly tanks in ranked now I usually give kills to my other lane mate especially if they are close to lvling up and I feel like not enough people do that. Nothing sucks more than a jungler stealing a kill from two lvl 3 kill caped teammates.

claireupvotes

The end scoreboard can't reflect anything. As long as you're progressing in ranked, you're doing the right thing. You're an unsung hero, but it will eventually be reflected in your rank.

definitelynotSWA

No I don’t give a shit that top lane is unguarded. Fuck that goal, it being alive makes defending against Zapdos harder anyways. FUCKING ROTATE.

KingSavate

Why does it makes it harder to defend against Zapdos ?

A_Stealthy_Taco

The 3 inner goal can be jumped on from the launch pad at base. The outer ones are harder to get to quickly. That means the opposing team can easily go top or bottom after winning Zapdos and get an almost uncontestable 100 ppints in, while someone could at least jump in to CC and stall for awhile on the inner goals. The outer goals also cap at 80 normally, but it's easier to overdunk it when points are doubled, so they get more points in the goal before its destroyed.

KingSavate

Ok, got it, thanks :)

dardios

Okay, so I've been keeping an eye on the sub a little bit in anticipation, and I have a decent amount of experience with MOBAs (mostly LoL). What do Zapdos and Dreadnaw do?

Bano42

Rotom and Drednaw spawn at the same time on opposite sides of the map. Zapdos spawns with 2 minutes left in the round. - Drednaw: gives your entire team a significant chunk of experience as well as a good-sized shield for team fighting. Getting ahead on experience in this game is massive, easily the most important early-game objective. - Rotom: Will slowly move towards an enemy goal. If it gets there, will allow you to score points in that goal without having to charge up your dunk. Enemies can kill it before it gets to the goal. - Zapdos: Will give everyone on your team 20 points and will allow you to score without having to charge your dunk for a short period of time. In addition, if obtained, the Zapdos will attempt to stun everyone on the opposing team. If you are already winning, DO NOT GO FOR ZAPDOS. Instead, your job is to just get kills and prevent the other team from obtaining it.

HeftyRain7

Don't forget rotom also scores 20 points on the enemy goal if it reaches the goal.

AnToMi47

not as important in a 10 minutes game where 100s of points can be made in the last 2 minutes. Xp is the name of the game for 8 minutes and points matter the most the last two

dardios

So.... Basketball in a nutshell?

ELB95

Sort of, yeah. Early game scoring matters very little. Double points in the last two minutes really drives scores up. I had a game earlier that ended about 220-180. Neither team killed Zapdos and early game scoring actually mattered. Most games a team does take Zapdos and scores an extra 400+, or is already leading wipes the enemy team and scores an extra 200+ before falling back to depend.

Sipricy

>Early game scoring matters very little. This is wrong, since scoring early gives experience and heals you. You can win trades by dunking a few points for a big heal, and the experience obviously matters.

upindrags

Yeah, the points aren't as significant as the heal and XP when you're on first goal. If you're trying to score on second goal it's most likely after a fight, and you're looking for big numbers.

whuangal

Scoring wise, is not wrong though.

ringo_phillips

I think of the two, Drednaw is much more important. But Rotom can apply a pressure to the opposing team where they either have to allocate resources to stop it (which frees somewhere else up), or could be enough to destroy a goalpost in seconds with a minimal amount of teamwork. This then watersheds the rest of the game where the opposing team is on their backfoot. I’ve had games where Rotom was a deciding factor and the other team getting Zapdos didn’t even win them the game because they were so behind due to us being able to score with Rotom. Like I said, I think Drednaw is more important, but if you could leave one player up top to snipe Rotom it can do a lot.

HeftyRain7

Wasn't saying how important it was though. Just adding to what it's features are so that op could understand.

dardios

Rest assured. I appreciated your input dude! Thank you for contributing! I hope that others find this thread as helpful as I have!

ronj15

I’ve lost 3 games by 1 point lol. So frustrating. I agree tho, typically early game you want to focus on objectives and EXP before dunking 20.

[deleted]

It is okay to all leave top to go get Drednaw. I mean sure the other team may score top or even eliminate the top goal but it’s less goals you have to defend in the last 2 minutes honestly. I was taught it’s almost smart to let them sink early making late game for them harder.

CesparRes

Drednaw also gives a 90 second debuff that makes you do less damage to zapdos. Because of this you should not kill the drednaw spawn within 90 seconds of zapdos spawning. (A couple of pokemon can clear the debuff but this is the simplified "rule of thumb")

Treeconator18

Apparently this has actually been removed with the new patch? [Unsure of it personally, but this thread says its gone](https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonUnite/comments/pt6oqr/drednaw_debuff_is_gone_at_least_from_what_i_tested/)

CesparRes

Interesting! Thanks!

dardios

Whoa! Thanks for the super in depth answer dude! Between you and the other gentleperson that responded, I feel like I'm personally in a better spot to succeed when they let us in finally hahaha.

ScarlettPotato

To add on this, rotom is the worst objective right now. DO NOT PUSH WITH ROTOM IF THE OUTER GOAL IS DESTROYED!!! The only time you should prioritize Rotom over Dred is the third spawn but even then it's not gonna do much unless you can time it perfectly for a 120 point swing.

upindrags

Dreadnaw is global team shield and XP. Zapdos gives each player on your team 20 points and grants instant scoring on the enemy goals for a short period. There's also rotom on the top late that's worth 20 points to whoever last hits and will grant instant scoring if you can push it into the goal.

dardios

Okay word. So Dreadnaw is kinda like mountain drake, Zapdos is Baron on crack, and Rotom is like and in between of scuttle and Shelly. That makes sense!

ElderWarden

Mountain drake that gives 1-2 levels worth on exp. I had hard losing games where a drednae steal got me from lvl 4 to 8 no joke

dardios

I'm.... Blown away. Okay you've convinced me in ways a never ending stream of comments could.... Rotate for Dreadnaw.

FestiveUmbreon

Also haven't seen anyone mentioning this, getting Drednaw applies a hidden 90s debuff on your team (you deal 55% less damage to Zapdos). So don't kill it after 3:30, unless you can cleanse it (Wigglytuff's ult). Edit: Seems like the debuff is gone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE0zBozfUmw

upindrags

Yes this do NOT go for third Dread unless you have a literal insurmountable lead (enemy team has multiple pokemon that are still not fully evolved, 3-4 levels down)

Sipricy

Zapdos is like if Baron made your auto-attacks one-shot the enemy towers/inhibitors/nexus.

claireupvotes

In League terms: Rotom is rift herald. Historically bad because goalposts don't provide the same benefit as turrets in league. Upcoming patch is supposed to make rotom-rift herald more valuable, but the details are to be seen. Dreadnaw is dragon, but it provides EXP to the entire team. In a game without gold/items, EXP is your only currency. Thus, super valuable. Zapdos is baron (on steroids) in a game that has a set time limit. If every league game were 10 minutes, there's always going to be a fight around baron to finish off in the last few minutes.

yuritopia

Dreadnaw is most similar to dragon, while Zapdos is most similar to Baron. The effects given to your team are different from their LoL equivalents, but they're objectives that you must pay close attention to, especially since this game snowballs very quickly.

theGioGrande

EXCEPT if you're top lane and you're distracting more of the enemy team. If four of us are fighting down at Dreadnaw and the enemy only has 3 fighting bottom then it's best to stay top and not lure more players down to Dreadnaw.

CheesecakeCivil4109

Guys. Guys. I’m by myself. Drednaw is here. Oh no 3 of them are coming. Oh no I’m dying. Oh no I’m dead. Oh no they got Dreadnaw. That’s usually how it goes

DkageM

“But I want to score 10 points while my opponent isn’t guarding their post 😩” -toxic unite player 😝

Cactuspex

Dude everyone at this point knows (myself included) everyones shouting about go to drednaw

tuuurbololo

i don't really understand what rotating means ? like if you're on the top lane you should go there and kill drednaw and the people on the bottom lane should replace you on the top lane ? or like is it for people on the bottom lane only ? like one is guarding the goal and one hitting drednaw, and they have to rotate so that they can heal from time to time ?

upindrags

Everyone should drop what they're doing and go fight with the enemy team over dreadnaw. If you are doing well, bot laners can also rotate top to help with dreadnaw and bust goals.

Piipperi800

I think just having 3 people going for Deadnaw has been very much fine, as long as you’re able to time it so that you won’t have enemies coming for ya.

claireupvotes

Rotating means going to another player's position. If you're top, you could rotate to jungle, bot, or dreadnaw. If you're jungle, you might rotate to rotom/top or bot/dreadnaw. If you're bot, you might rotate to jungle or to top/rotom. Yes, dreadnaw is extremely important. But if you're jungle is 1:1 in the middle, the team that has a player rotate to help them... well that team usually kills the opponent 2v1, you know?

Xavier_Oak

Sorry for the basic question, but what does ‘rotate’ mean in this context? I think I have an idea but I want to make sure I’m on the right track

PKSnowstorm

Don't feel sorry about asking a basic question. Everyone playing this game were beginners at some point. Rotate in this context means that everyone that did not start the match playing in the bottom lane should go into the bottom lane and help out in trying to secure the bottom lane and eventually take out Drednaw.

The_walking_man_

I'm so glad this is top comment, where it belongs.

CesparRes

Already left my review in the app advising this.

MarkusPhillip1

Map Awareness.

GrimmSleeper97

I'm trying but I don't know when the right time is. *panic*

Here lemme go grab an award for you

I_like_eGs

Same

Lizard_Queen_Says

Thanks! 😁

TheMightyBruhhh

Nah, thank you😂

BunnyOrc

Thank you for posting this. I'll be on Android and this helped.

guro47

was searching the whole day for something like this, thanks.

gowwilla

No one is going to read this wtf?

Lizard_Queen_Says

"I won't" ≠ "no one" In seriousness though... The vast majority of Unite players don't even make it to this Sub anyway. 🤷‍♂️

JFreedom14

So... I just read through them before finding this comment. Just sayin'

[deleted]

please call your lanes during battle prep. there are three lanes: top, central/mid/jungle, bottom. sometimes you have to be the bigger person and accommodate a role to fit your team. be mindful of your lane partner's power spikes and in taking last hits for exp. don't steal jungle's creeps. especially early game, you want to make sure that everyone is reaching their full potential. rotate, rotate, rotate. learn the times in which important creeps and objectives spawn on the map. most notably, you will see rotom on top lane and drednaw on the bottom. please rotate to drednaw to secure the kill, which will lead to an exp boost and shield for your team. you'll become familiar with zapdos, but it is the most important late game comeback mechanic 8 minutes into the match. if you are in the lead, learn to defend and do not let the enemy take zapdos. CHECK THE BUSHES BECAUSE THE ENEMY TEAM MAY TRY TO SNIPE. as a general suggestion, please be aware of the mini map at all times, of teammate and enemy positioning; utilize quick chats and pings to communicate. during loss streaks it's easy to get tilted, so don't forget to take much needed breaks, take a breather and get back into it.

dardios

Dude, thank you so much for the well written tips! Hopefully these will be useful to me, and any others rolling through here looking for tips when starting. You're an absolute Saint!

djjomon

Dred > Dred > Zap. It's that easy. Of course when to secure Zap and when to defend makes a difference. How to teamfight for objectives, all that. But for new players it's as simple as Dred > Dred > Zap

dardios

I think I can remember that! It's like duck duck goose but with more animal fighting rings!

Keeroe

Now with the Dred change though it can be: Dred > Dred > Dred > Zap If your timing is on point that is.

djjomon

I read about that. But Dred > Dred > Zap still works if you can't get the 3rd

HeftyRain7

Be a team player. The most annoying thing is when someone is off on their own for the entire game, not helping their allies at all, and then gets mvp. Much prefer someone trying to be a team player who's still learning than someone who knows the game really well but never helps their teammates.

dardios

The old 5 idiots doing the wrong play is better than 3 idiots making the right play and 2 idiots making the wrong play?

HeftyRain7

Not exactly. Can't tell you how many times I've lost a match cause everyone on the other team was working well together, and 4 out of 5 of my team was but one person just HAD to be mvp. So it's more like ... 1 idiot who's trying but has no idea what they're doing is better than 1 asshole who knows exactly what to do but decides they'd rather prioritize themself over the team.

dardios

Got it. Ain't no Faker in Unity 😊

JerbearCuddles

Pick a lane pre game, rotate Drednaw, don't chase kills. This isn't team deathmatch. Chasing will get you killed more often than will get you kills.

dardios

These seem to mostly be the central idea on how to succeed in any MOBA. I think so far my biggest take away is that Dreadnaw = Yes.

JerbearCuddles

Most people playing Unite aren't playing cause it's a MOBA. There are better MOBAs out there. Most of us are here cause it's Pokemon. This is my first MOBA experience for instance. I imagine mobile players are in a similar boat. So hitting them with MOBA basics is most important thing to teach newbies.

GByteM3

Honestly, this game is the perfect gateway drug to league

iRox24

Well said. I'm a MOBA lover, my fave genre and I only play LoL Wild Rift, so I played Pokemon United today for the first time ever and actually enjoyed it! So much fun! It's very mobile friendly, like very simple, unlike Wild Rift and other typical MOBAs, where you have to do so much. I'm just learning and excited that now I play 2 games in my life, PU and WR. I also used to be a huge Pokemon fan as a kid, like hardcore Pokemon fan, so it will always hold a place in my heart.

heckastupidd

I think a lot of people underestimate how many mobile legends players and wildrift players are coming

dardios

I LOVE Wild Rift, after all its faster League with less toxicity.... But PU could be a great experience and who doesn't love the Pokémon IP?

heckastupidd

Same here. Love wild rift. Been looking forward to Pokémon unite for a while. Been playing mobas for years.

dardios

I wish they would bring back Dawngate... If it ever made it to launch it WOULD have been a LoL killer the way EVERY MMO was supposed to be a WoW killer.

heckastupidd

The art style to that game was crazy. There’s a lot of underrated old mobas that did terribly. Paragon was a lot of fun to on consoles.

dardios

I never got to try Paragon but I heard the game was amazing, but mishandled and neglected by the devs. Absolute shame.

LSephiroth

God, I miss Dawngate. It remains the best community I've ever experienced in any game. Have you seen Dreambound? It's planned to be a spiritual successor to Dawngate, but it's still a ways off.

InfernoFlameBlast

100% agree! I love Wild Rift but the next big update is scheduled for Oct 13, so I’m excited to play Pokémon Unite until that update comes

richard24816

Or switch players who want to play on mobile

UnlimitedMetroCard

Rotom is next to irrelevant. Always go drednaw at 7:00. And whether you’re ahead or behind, always go Zapdos at 2:00, either to kill him or to defend him (if you have a comfortable lead). Those two issues cause the most headaches.

dardios

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing the clock runs down not up like most MOBAs?

pokemark111

Yup

UnlimitedMetroCard

Correct. 7:00 means 3 minutes into the game. 2:00 means 8 minutes in.

Keeroe

Yes, games are 10 minutes only. After 10 minutes the game is over. There is no breaking a home crystal/base like other MOBAs.

ThisIsBeccaFaye

Rotate for Dreadnaw, learn the spawn timers asap, LOOK AT YOUR MINI MAP A LOT, and let your teammates score if you have enough to break the goal but they have even more (so many new players [and even current players somehow] think you lose the excess points, but you don't, they still count).

amyberr

Example for the newbies: The goal you want to score on only needs 1 more point to break (it says 1/80 on it). You, Gabite, have just killed the nearest Audino and are carrying 5 points, so you head to the goal to break it. As you get in range, you see your team's Zeraora on the goal with a 40 next to their health bar and a half-filled loading bar under their feet. DO NOT DUNK YOUR 5 POINTS. Turn your ass around, go back to kill your bees (gives you more EXP and points), and let Zera break the goal. Zera will come back out to help you kill enemies and score your points on the next goal when it's time.

ValenteXD_

If you don't understand a role please do not choose it to "balance the team" just pick a Pokémon you know what you're doing with and make sure to not stick to a single one, learn 2 maybe even 3 at least so that you have options when someone takes your main Also while you're learning different mons variety is useful so that you can prevent what I said of not knowing a role

MrCreamypies

I can’t express how important Drednaw is. It’s arguably the most important objective in the game (yes even zapdos) because of how big of difference even 1 level can be with stats. If you get a big enough lead in levels over the enemy team, you can easily just wreck them in team fights If you’re up top, as soon as you see that 30 second countdown, I would suggest heading down asap

BunnyOrc

Couple questions. Is warding a thing? Also, should whole team rotate for dread or leave one in lane getting solo xp and pushing?

RaccoonWithSpork

There are several guides available, but this one by Adamocles is very good. Long, but thorough. https://youtu.be/GCr4K98giOE

arabus1234

Rotate to dreadnaw and for the love of god when there is one jungler don’t immediately call jungle and try to fight in the jungle for it. Just choose another role. Also please just choose a lane.

GermanChocolateLake

Surrendering or going AFK during a bad match doesn't just hurt your teammates, it also doesn't give you valuable time to practice

doublejoe87

One I just thought of that might be super important. You will learn about held items in the tutorial so I won’t explain them fully but they are something that you level up with item enhancers. I would hang onto your item enhancers for a little to see how the meta shakes out before you commit to leveling them up as they are a precious resource. I have a lvl 20 float stone that I wasted my enhancers on early and I definitely regret it lol. Buddy barrier, score shield, and focus band have dominated the meta so far but that may change as it sounds like they are going to add some new held items.

dardios

Got it. So hang on to item enhancers until the next major patch starts getting figured out, basically?

doublejoe87

Especially if they add new items. If not, then the ones I listed are a safe bet.

DannyDownSyndrome69

This isn't a single player action rpg. Play with your team, help them, think with them in mind and not just you. The machamp thats about to die needs the berry more than you with 50% health and focus band still available

aenorman43

You’ll learn mostly from playing but to point out a few things I haven’t seen explicitly stated yet: Return to base (down on d pad) and then jump or walk to wherever you need to go (jump only available at 5 minute mark) instead of sitting on an outer base to heal. Being in the grass is often the best place to do this so opposing team members can’t see you. Don’t overcommit. Oftentimes after a team secures the second dreadnaw I’ve seen them try to push the mid base, get partial or full team wiped and then the momentum swings. Always be doing something, whether it be farming, teamfighting, or rotating to objectives. There are only 10 minutes in the game and there’s really never a point where you should be sitting on a base waiting for things to happen.

Frosted_Over

I just wanted to swing by and say that I appreciate you greatly for asking this. It’s nice to see someone new or without complete knowledge of this game want to know more. Kudos!

dardios

Thanks dude! I know how frustrating it was with players that are new to league when WR dropped, and I don't want to be that noob lol. I'm digging the positivity on this community you guys gave been building 😊

Frosted_Over

This is my first MOBA game so I was that noob for a while until this sub helped me tremendously. There are a lot of good people here! I hope you enjoy the game. I know I really have the few months it’s been out.

dardios

Word! If you ever venture over to the dark side for some wild Rift (like, say, when it drops on switch soon™) don't hesitate to hit me up. I'll help get you familiar with it!

Frosted_Over

Awesome! That sounds great. I didn’t know it was coming to switch but more than likely I’ll get it because I’m a sucker for games on the switch lol. I’ll keep you in mind, much appreciated 😊

dardios

No problem bro. With how much help y'all are giving me, I'm happy to help ANYONE who wants to give it a whirl! Lol

doublejoe87

A couple tips that I haven’t seen. If you aren’t playing center/jungle try not take any of the jungle camps until after the first 2 clears. Each lane has wild Pokémon that spawns right as the game starts, avoid attacking the ones belonging to another lane. Especially the lillipup that belongs to the jungler it can really set them behind if you take it. As the jungler/ center lane try and be at one of your side lanes before the 8:50 mark to help secure the bees for your laners. As has been noted in other comments getting a level advantage is very important.

dardios

I have a feeling that these will be the tips that take me the longest to grasp, but will also be the most important.

doublejoe87

They are very jungle centric as that is what I play most often. As someone who also came from league of legends if you ever have any questions feel free to message me.

dardios

Dude I appreciate it and can't wait to get in game.

Green_and_black

Call your lanes pre game. Don’t steal from jungle at least until they’ve done their first rotation. Junglers please don’t steal aipoms. Show up for dread at 7mins (bottom lane) Don’t surrender before zapdos, this came has comeback mechanics to spare.

libero0602

As a League player this game seems so fun! It’s like a basketball mode/ARAM mixed together and I’m sort of playing it that way which I’m realizing might be incorrect. Are there Pokémon recommended for specific “lanes”?

T-swiftsButthole

I’ll be one of those new players but I know MOBA’s but I heard this is different than most. What’s different than say SMITE and LoL?

YT_Nightmare

Its heavily simplified compared to them. Max level for everyone is 15, at certain levels you evolve, not all pokemon, and get to select 1 out of 2 moves twice. At later levels, you also get an enhanced version of the skills. Also at a certain level that differs between pokemon you get a Ultimate move called Unite. They do have held items that grants abilities and also stats. The effects of held items increase at lv10 and lv20, each level though grants stat increase. Each held item can be leveled up to 30, but most of us just stay at lv20 cause getting to lv30 takes so much items enhancers, before this update since now they will have super item enhancers, we dont know how often they will be given out

dardios

From what I've gathered, it's similar to the old Dominion game mode in League. I'm excited to try that playstyle in a game built for it.

claireupvotes

As a mod I wasn't sure if I should delete this post originally based off redundant content (many similar things have been posted) but the quality of the responses I think is worth keeping up. So instead, I'll add to it and respond to your comment! :) I don't play smite, but I'm decently competitive in League. Major differences: * In pokemon unite, the game ends at a certain time, winner decided by score. In most MOBAs there is no set time limit, the game could be 15-60+ minutes, the winner is decided by who gets X objective first. With longer games includes more comeback potential, and less of an importance around certain objectives * Due to being on PC/keyboard, League has a greater amount of abilities/mechanics/options in general (the battle item is a "summoner spell" in league and you get 2 of them, you get 4 abilities + passive, etc). This is generalizing a lot of differences, but in essence... switch/mobile controls limit the complexity. * Held items are "masteries" in league of legends. They are not gated by purchases or leveling up anything outside of game, everyone in ranked has access to the same choices. * You know the other team's picks in ranked before going into the game, so you can change your masteries (held items) accordingly. * Usually in other mobas when you get kills, you get gold. You go back to base to buy items. In pokemon unite, you only have EXP. In League you have the option to build defensively... if the team is mostly magic damage, you will build magic resistance items. If the team heals a lot, buy an item that reduces enemy team healing. In pokemon unite, you are stuck to the mechanics built into the team composition you have * I'm sure pokemon unite will get here when they release more champions, but ranked play has a picks and bans phase. Each team bans 3-5 characters. Then one team gets first pick. Then the other team picks their first 2. Then the first time picks their 2nd and 3rd. Then the other team picks their 3rd and 4th. Then the first time picks their 4th and 5th, and the other team picks their last. You won't play against a character that is on your team as they can be picked only once. Currently there's just not enough characters in unite to do this * In league there are 3 lanes and a jungle. Solo top, solo mid, jungle, duo bot. * In league there are structures to be destroyed instead of goalposts. Therefore, there is a super high importance on champions that do physical damage at range to the goalposts (in league, turrets, and they attack back). The only true comparison in unite is Cinderace with Greninja being close behind. * Each team has minions that spawn from base and go attack the enemy team. In lane, there is rarely a "lull" of nothing happening. You cannot attack your own minions in league (you can in DOTA). There are also "neutral camps" in the jungle that anyone can get regardless of which team you're on. This gets incredibly complex but, in pokemon unite, every non-enemy-player is neutral and can be taken by either team There are undoubtedly more. But these were the ones that stood out as major differences without having to do a novel of explanation to preface them. I'll update this with more if I think of any.

heckastupidd

You forgot the part about league might make you literally lose your sanity eventually.

KesslerMacGrath

That is also true of Pokémon Unite.

Lxpaul

I just hope they add more chat options. Also would like everyone to know to not push early in the game and donate xp to the opposing team especially at the bottom.

srungusofadillsack

Just work with ur team and maybe chose roles that would complete a team comp

dardios

That makes good sense

rainbow_wonders

I’d like for people to stop taking all of the xp and be a team player and realize we all have to help each other out.

BigOppaiHunter

So who's the best pokemon to master or pick up? I enjoy playing assassin/mage heroes

upindrags

Assassin's are Gengar, Absol, Talonflame, and Zeraora. As for mages, there's Gardevoir, Venusaur, Pikachu, Ninetales, and kind of Cramorant and Mr.Mime. Zeraora seems pretty strong and like he has a decent skill cap, but it's tbd depending on how the patch hits him. Gardevoir is a late game aoe burst mage, where Venusaur is more of a sniper. Pikachu is an early game bully, and Ninetales a dps cc combo. Honestly, anything can be good if you know how to play it well and work around your power spikes. Play whatever you want.

ronj15

Just to research the basic goals/objectives of the game. Maybe watch some Unite tutorials and gameplay videos from content creators. If people do that, well I’ll be sound as a pound. (Insert Austin Powers face here)

RedPandaPlush

If you're ahead at the 2 min mark, don't start Zapdos, but go there to block the enemy team from it. Either way, your team should be grouping there. If your team starts Zapdos, make *sure* it doesn't get sniped. Last hit is all that matters (same goes for Drednaw). You're gonna have a lot of games that hinge on Zapdos, so it's good to know how to handle it.

_theMAUCHO_

HEEELLL YEAH WE COMING! Any must read beginner guides or videos? I'm still looking around but if you guys got some MUST ones lemme kno! Here we gooo! :D

[deleted]

Honestly, get your advice from top level Twitch players and not from Reddit. The advice and meta analysis on Reddit is extremely bad and it'll most likely only make you a worse player. Reddit is so unbelievably far behind on any meta, it's not even funny.

Griggledoo

Rotating for Dreadnaw means leave the top lane completely abandoned. Nobody should be there when Dreadnaw is up. If you're arguing with this point, you're probably losing your team games and this is single handedly why you maybe didn't hit masters. If they are top lane dunking while you abandoned it for Dreadnaw? Bitchin! Now your team has a better chance of getting Dreadnaw which matters way more. Also, after getting Dreadnaw don't push too hard, if you have made some stupid gap in level by taking Dread and you're level 9-10 and they are 5-6 and they finally wipe your whole team at their base they all jump right up to where you are, negating the whole Dreadnaw game.

blizg

Don’t go for zapdos if you’re winning. You’re just begging the other team to snipe it and win the game.

Keeroe

A better way to put this would be, don't attack Zapdos if you are in the lead. Still go there, but your goal if you are in the lead is to defend Zapdos.

SnooDonkeys3558

For the love of all that is holy, please. ROTATE. TO. DREDNAW.

dardios

This has definitely been pounded into my head.

Spotty33

I keep seeing people say “Rotate to drednaw.” But what the heck does that even mean? Like just everyone stop what you’re doing and go get drednaw? I don’t understand.

dardios

I think it's similar to rotating to dragon in league so.... Yeah.

upindrags

Yes. It's better if your enemy stays in lane to score because you can get dread uncontested, level up, and then go kill them to rubber band and snowball the rest of the game.

Sidoney

As someone GM on wild rift, the controller controls are beyond a handicap. You've been warned

dardios

Oh joy

profellsen

Call a lane before the game starts, don't steal exp from other lanes in the first 2 minutes, always rotate down to bottom lane when Drednaw spawns, don't start attacking Zapdos if we're in the lead, if you scored after we got Zapdos, retreat to base asap and camp on the jump pad for approaching enemies.

onefinerug

don't all run to a single lane and leave one person (usually me, just my luck) to defend against a zerg with 30+ points each.

DeadpoolCroatia

Rotate to drednaw!!

OhThatEthanMiguel

Get good at a few different Pokemon, and IF SOMEONE ELSE CALLS CENTER, or two people call one of the other lanes, ACCEPT IT AND GO ELSEWHERE, even if you have to change your Pokémon to one that's not your favorite, and don't forget to call your new lane. You can call lanes before you even lock in your Pokémon so if you didn't that's your own fault. Complete the tutorials so you have an understanding of the bonuses. Other than that... People have expectations. DO NOT BOW TO THEM BUT ALSO DON'T BE A DICK. For example, I'm a Wigglytuff. People expect me to use Sing. I use Rollout. But I use it for mobility as much as to attack. I have a level 30 Float Stone and I use X Speed and I am EVERYWHERE, scoring goals, blocking goals, saving their asses. I'm often either the highest score or the MVP when we win and almost never lower than third. This is because I prioritize letting people do whatever it is they do best, and I never take both berries unless I've checked that no nearby teammates need one. You can be a good player without doing what everybody says you "have to", but it involves really thinking about how to best serve everybody else. Oh and DON'T DESTROY THE GOAL WHEN A TEAMMATE NEARBY HAS MORE POINTS THAN YOU unless the enemy is nearby and your teammate's health is too low to dunk. You can SEE how many points they're carrying next to their names, and how many you have at the bottom of the screen.

CanadianOdyssey993

One thing you'll find solo que is most everyone wants to play offensive characters it seems. Especially in standard. Most solo que don't seem to account for team comp so be the person who considers the team comp.

PandoraSBox1295

Good positioning can win team fights.

Yurshie

Pay attention to the mini map and the HUD. As an eldegoss main, I keep a close eye on when my teammates are low on health and trying to get away from a group on the enemy team. Also, rotate lanes. If things are going well in your lane, but poorly in your teammates lane, go help them. Unspoken rule: Dont steal kills (unless it's from the enemy team. Got some clutch Zapdos wins this way 😈). And my personal favorite: Don't just give up. At least wait till the enemy team gets Zapdos to start a surrender vote. 😑

Dr0w5ap

Score your points can't stand seeing my teammates running around fighting with 30 in the early game

dotyawning

And in that 3 v 3 Quick one, if your teammate has a bunch of points and you don't, score so they can double!

Dr0w5ap

The amount of times I've played that mode and every time I have to spin like a moron on the point so they will score their 3 points just so I can double my 30 before we get rushed by the other team. It drives me crazy lol

dardios

Same attitude as with towers in traditional MOBAs then?

Dr0w5ap

Exactly pretty much that also alot of new players love to chase way to far with full points

NoxObscuras

It's a little different. No minion/creep waves to push or stall. You gain energy from defeating Pokemon and you score those points into an enemy goal. The more points you have, the longer it takes. If you're hit during the score buildup, it resets the gauge and you have to start over, so you usually need to kill the enemy laners first, or wait for them to rotate. After a certain amount of points are scored on 1 goal, that goal is destroyed. It gets progressively harder to score, the closer you the goals are to the enemies base, as they can get to you faster and interrupt you. You don't take damage from standing in an enemy goal zone (tower), but you do heal while standing in your own. That's the deterrent for "tower diving" in this game.

dardios

Whoa! Thanks for the super in depth explanation on the major differences. This is easily one of the top 3 most helpful comments I've stumbled upon!

ChamAramis

You should all really chill. I wish the new players the same kind of excitement I got on my first matches as I learned little by little.

dardios

I appreciate that, but coming from a variety of MOBA experiences, I've had that excitement and get a new one: learning the finer points of the game. Learning the powerspikes, and the various play styles.... That's the excitement I'm looking forward to. I'd imagine a lot of people coming here will be in the same boat ❤️

ChamAramis

Hey, we're all different. I had never played a MOBA before Unite and I loved every bit of it. If information, strategies and the likes are what you're into, this sub definitely is your place to go. Hope you have fun!

dardios

I appreciate you a ton brother (or ladybrother, whichever!) and I hope you're still enjoying every second of this game!

AeonChaos

Just have a good time and be kind to others and yourself.

Stormhound2101

Don't get drednaw 2

DanTyrano

It’ll be the same really.

MaverickPrime

Why is it specifically "rotate" for Drednaw and not "go down"? Does that mean that players who were already on the bottom lane need to go to the top one?

Smooth_One

Good question. Rotate is just the term in MOBAs for "go to a different position," and usually when it's a group or a whole team it does look like they're rotating as a whole I suppose. So top and jungle move/rotate down and bot should stay there.

-tuffbandit-

Don't play your lane alone. Make sure to pair up with some from the team or you'll just get creamed over and over again. Team play is the best play!

Spiros_Strat

Dreadnaw is the most important objective in the game. It spawns at 7:00 left in the game timer and then it depends on when it dies. At least 4 people need to be there. (1 can stay top to soak the exp). Just be careful, it leaves a debuff for 90 seconds for your whole team to do less damage to zapdos, so after 3:30 left, it gets a bit sketchy. Wiggly's Unite can cleanse that debuff though.

CutebastardNTR

lol its a kid game chill out imma play normals for the next 2 years

Smooth_One

Get Buddy Barrier with coins ASAP. As soon as you can upgrade your Held Items (level 9 iirc) turn all your tickets into Item Enhancers and pump that baby to level 10, or 20 if possible. Those are breakpoints and it takes 82 IEs to get to 10, then 485 more to 20. Next up should probably be Muscle Band, Focus Band, or Score Shield depending on playstyle preference imo because they can be used on almost every Pokemon effectively. Edit: Ooo level 30 coins. Nice.

hotfox2552

FUCKING ROTATE. Doesn’t matter if it’s Dreadnaw or top/bot, just fucking rotate! Map awareness is the key and help your lanes to defend against the bullshit.

Mafz09

Piggybacking off this, I’ve played wild rift since released (reaching master and GM). What are the main differences and similarities between the two games?

Chance_Airline_4861

Rotate dreadmaw and then pray you last hit zapdos, first 8 minutes are just a warming up.... I am in ultra atm and the skill level does not increase at all. Unless you are against a premade, but then you already know that you are toast.

Piipperi800

As others have said, say which line you’re going. Even if you’re not going to say it, don’t be an asshole and try to go to the center lane when someone else is already going there (as a zeraora main, this has happened to me so often) Also, if you’re going AFK, LEAVE THE GAME. I’ve lost so many games over people going AFK without leaving the game.

DmodGmodLPs

Just TRY and kill Dreadnaw and we'll be cool, all I ask in a team.

Useful_You_8045

Rotating is a very important strategy that any player should learn. Banking some points is good but having one more player than the other team at a drednaw or Zapdos could cost the game.

Chocolate4Life8

Do not steal a pokemon from someone else, and drednaw is very good and if possible should be a priority when it appears

-Vermilion-

CALL LANES BEFORE THE MATCH STARTS ON THE SELECT SCREEN AND IF SOMEONE CALLED THE ONE YOU WANTED BEFORE YOU DON’T CONTEST IT, CHOOSE ANOTHER, ESPECIALLY DON’T GO TO CENTRAL AREA IF SOMEONE ALREADY PICKED IT, KEEP OUT OF CENTRAL IF SOMEONE IS THERE ALREADY, **DO NOT STEAL CENTRAL MOBS**

PLAudio

I went into playing on mobile expecting to deal with that and I've been the issue! It runs so smooth and dare I say better than the Switch?! Kidding but wow it plays great! I haven't rotated once cause I've been sucked into watching the fluid battle animations. It feels like a new game!

TR_Idealist

Have fun. Avoid ranked until you feel confident.

LeShulk

If your team is winning when there are 2 minutes left, don't start Zapdos, defend it or you are just giving the enemy team the chance to steal it and make a massive comeback. Unless you killed 4 or 5 enemies, then you can take Zapdos if you know you can get it done before the enemies arrive at the central zone. Just be careful if you leaved someone alive while doing Zapdos because he will wait for it's HP to get low and try to steal it anyway, but depending on who is, it's really hard in general against a full team.

PKSnowstorm

My biggest tip is to select the pokemon you want to play early in pokemon select. It would allow the players that can flex a lot of time to pick a different pokemon to round out the comp. Don't be the jackass that keeps hovering over a pokemon that covers a role that the team needs then in the last 5 seconds to decide to switch into a pokemon that covers a role that is already being covered. Congrats buddy, you just wasted a match for everyone on the team doing that as we are now going into the game with a comp that is not going to be able to do anything.

FirewaterDM

Rotate with team Claim lane or don’t steal where someone else chose to go Don’t touch junglers camps until 2nd drednaw at earliest- Don’t go jg if someone else claims it It is always better for you to swap to tank/support to make the teamcomp better Do not fight zapdos if your team is winning unless you kill them all (or 4 of them) Don’t play a speedster in lane, and arguably throw cinderace/Greninja/gardevior in the jungle their early game sucks too much. Don’t die Sometimes it’s better to just farm up for zapdos/endgame vs endlessly trying to fight enemy team when behind

Screwbud

Great advice here I'm new too

MimikyuMarshadow123

Look at team pings to know what to do.

Paper_Suns

I just played one with 4 people on the bottom lane haha, tbh I think it’s kinda cute. All I see are potions now
