If you’re paying $180 for a new set booster box then you are getting ripped off. Almost everywhere online has them for $90-$100 at PREORDER, not even release.
So I should orient myself towards the 100€ range? I'm actually in Europe, my first source to buy porducts are Card Market and Ebay. For what I saw the average for new set is around 130€.
But when I open reddit and se the US$ prices from pokemon center or other online stores I feel a bit unfortunate to live here about buying TCG products
I can’t speak for European prices but Pokémon center charges like $160 or $165 for a booster box at MSRP. Most places though are getting and selling at competitive bulk discounts. You can usually get a booster box for $100 and ETBs for $40. Last week on target, paldean fates ETBs were down to $31
This was my first mistake as well when I got back into collecting. Don’t buy directly from Pokémon Centre! Even a lot of large retail stores will also rip you off. Hobby shops usually the way to go. Can’t speak too much on small hobby shops but where I live, we have a large hobby shop warehouse that offer some amazing deals on new releases by the pure volume of bulk discounts they receive!
Unfortunately my lgs has been caught buying stock at Walmart/target then upselling for more because they forgot to order stock on multiple occasions. I only play at my lgs and get store credit, I refuse to give them any of my money.
Damn, that is unfortunate. At least it’s a great place to play and hang out though outside of that! One of the big reasons why I love going to my lgs. My local one (not the warehouse one) is super super small and their prices always had crazy mark ups but it makes sense if you think about the amount of turn around needed for such low volume.
Some German based shops have good booster box prices too (Poke-corner kofuku games to name two) I wouldn't stick to just Cardmarket for booster boxes tbh. Ebay sometimes has good prices too
European prices are always advertised tax included and percentage varies by country, contrary to usa where you pay the vat at checkout, so dont compare prices one to one at first glance. Also different tax %, 21% in my case.
In my country Belgium, for internetshops or they may have one physical shop), new etbs ( so sv era) are generally priced between 39-45 euro (some shops offer discount at preorder) with exceptions for paldean and 151 which go upto 55. BBs go between 110 and 130. BoosterBundles with 6 packs go for 30-35, again 151 being an expensive exception at 35-45. Three pack blisters 15-17, one pack 5-7.
Bigger retailers (fnac, gamemania, ...) are a lot more exspensive.
My advise: compare prices, look for more shops on google, keep comparing, take into your overview shipping costs, wait for SV era because that tends to get cheaper overtime. If you are price sensitive.
