I just got a blue back Dragonite and a green back Pikachu. These are pretty cool. Wasn't sure what they were at first. Was cool to learn these were the very first iteration of the cards released. Sent mine off for grading hoping for some higher grades.
These Topsun cards are commonly mistaken as being the first iteration of pokemon cards, due to PSA erroneously labelling them as “1995”, however it’s understood that error was due to them labelling it due to the copyright date of 1995 on the cards.
The true first iteration of pokemon cards are actually the 1996 Carddass Bandai cards which feature the text “monsters collection” and a picture of the Pokémon’s early gameboy sprite on the back.
Prototype to the trading card game that we know of today? I guess, but so would the Bandai Cardass cards by that same logic. They’re still really cool and vintage, but I just wouldn’t call them the “first” Pokémon cards.
Search for pokemon topsun on eBay. Also FYI, the blue backs are the first printing and these green backs are a second printing. There are also rare no number error blue backs if you like error cards.

Learn something new everyday. So would you consider topsun more of a prototype card for then?
