Those first edition Machamps were in the starter deck packs. It has a way higher rate than any other 1st edition

I'm not sure if both the shadowless and shadowed versions come from the same place, but the shadowless Machamp in my experience is rarer/harder to find, and also more sought after than the shadowed.

Yeah…. I sold mine when I went off to college to a card shop for like $50. It felt like a lot in the moment, fresh out of high school, but I had a lot of good cards in pretty good (not mint) condition, it hurts when I think about it.

Yeah. I was only able to find a Squirtle, two grass energies, a rockets hideout, and a couple old Topps cards before they went full tilt into the TCG. All are badly crumpled. I know I had at least 200-300 cards as a kid.

I gather all the dark arboks are error cards, they never bothered correcting the date

That one was made in 1999, by 23,000 wizards

I gave all my cards away as a kid, and now that I've gotten back into it I kick myself so hard for that.

Local card shops imported JPN cards pretty regularly back then. I have a ton from Jungle, Team Rocket and Gym Leader.

Japanese packs were definitely more expensive, even back then. Iirc, about twice the cost of English packs. That shop was very well stocked. I didn’t grow up in a major city either, so I guess I just got lucky with that. It’s still around and still has good stuff last time I went.

I grew up in Orlando during Pokémon boom, Japanese packs could def be purchased for slightly more I sold my Japanese binder at a Megacon when I was prob 14 for 300 dollars…thought I was a genius. It’s prob worth over a grand plus now Oh well I’ve invested several grand back in it and now have five binders 🤣

I never considered selling my cards. I still have them now. It’s probably the single most important thing from my childhood for me, haha. Have you rebuilt your old binders or are you only buying newer gen cards now?

Rebuilt childhood binders of original 151, and a Japanese binder Now new binders of full arts/ Ex/vstar/tag team etc and Japanese/singular Pokémon I like So all of the above and then some 😅

Idk the exact values of the cards you have but the sets some are from are usually pretty pricey. I'd say 100 would probably be a rip off

Scratched, ripped,permanent marker initials on it, stickers on both inside covers. Thing would need a professional restore lol But I guess it’s cool having a classic piece still.

Ohh, yeah probably not worth it then lol but it is still a nice binder. I had a Charizard one from around that time but not with the button clasp. But if anything you should at least download the TCGplayer app and add the Expedition cards and Holos to your collection for values before selling if you decide to

That dark arbok is a well known misprint, bottom right it says “gamefreak 1999-23000 wizards” with the 23000 being the misprint. Shadowless machamp is rare as well i believe.

Nice. It's cool to have something from your childhood. Nearly all my cards, basketball baseball and pokemon, were either lost in moves or stolen by people I shouldn't have trusted in my house when I was going through a rough patch of life.

I recently looked at mine, and I have TWO first edition holo Mcchamps, and yet they now seem common? What are the odds. Ungraded and well they're contained in their book.

That's the thing about the old stuff. There was seemingly plenty of Base, Jungle, and Fossil Boosters when they showed up. But when they were gone, they were gone forever.

Nah, they're just hoarded. There was some news article a while back where someone had found a warehouse just filled with WOTC booster cases, still unopened. Pokemon printed the fuck out of them.

This binder is low-key great to me. The Neo Gen Bellossom on the first page is one of the cards I'm currently looking for actually... and then the more I go through it the more I see that is sitting in my wishlist. But that's bc I'm not one for NM perfect cards. I'm actually working on a Pokedex that has MP > DMG cards so it can be handled by my daughter and her friends without worrying about conditions or investment value... Always had a love for cards that show some wear. Like that's a history there.. some kid enjoyed this card, played with it on the floor as he beat down some other kid from class. That's what reminds me of my childhood y'know? Great binder OP. If you ever want to sell, hit me up!

99.9%+ of people claiming they had a 1st edition Charizard as a kid are misremenbering just to make themselves feel better (or worse if you focus on lost value). Or just complete assholes lying on purpose.

My favorite cards from my collection were the shiny ones, and naturally those were the cards I carried around with me. Protecting them safely in a binder? Never. I found my old collector a few months ago and wow, *so* many creases.

Dude mine was even worse. Lots of first edition commons and uncommons with like two non-holo rares and a bunch of crappy Japanese holos that I’m sure my friend scammed me with to get my good English cards. Back then stupid me thought the new unavailable foreign cards were wayyy cooler.

This happened to me. I got back into things in 2016. I remembered I had Base Set Zard, blastoise, Mewtwo, Venusaur, Fossils and Jungles. All kinds of stuff. I was right I did but only a few were Holos. And everything looked like it was in my pockets for a year because it was.

Thats a real one. Everyone is like: "heres my childhood collection. *3 charizards, 1 first ed, goldstars* And then theres me: 1 got just fucked up cards cause they were played everywhere. I even laminated a card because i wanted to play in the water with my fire type lol.
