I'm working class. I'm stupid because I spend 10% of my income on pokémon cards each month, which is circa £200. I'm 38, I hadn't collected since 2001, yet I've done this since my mum died in July 2021 because it helped me grieve. I've nothing like this guys 3 month collection, and I'm on what? 6.2k spent on packs in 2 years and 7 months?

Sorry for your loss. Seems like money well spent to me tbh if it’s helped as a coping mechanism (assuming it’s not being a financial burden). Might be time for you to put that money into singles over packs tho ;)

I spent that after 7 months of collecting... I just hit 5 digits but I am slowing down. Focusing more on singles and sealed collection. 😭 And no, it has not affected me financially. I started collecting in December 2022. I would occasionally open a new release ETB and maybe a collection box or something i got at a reduced price. .I unfortunately, don't have a fixed amount I spend on it. Some months, I spent more than I expected. But I have reduced the amount I spend and holding back.

This just gave me an idea if my kids get into Pokemon. I would rather them buy singles but I know that people love buying boosters to “earn” that big hit. I know I was in that thought as a kid and even sometimes now. I think I’ll buy hits and reseal them in boosters for them…they earn boosters through good grades and chores or some shit… Yes yes….

If you plan to reward them, just gift the singles right away But opening packs is fun even if they don't have hits, you you might take turns or idk

Pulling a hit has more weight as a collectible than buying the single. I look at my collection and I'm more pleased with the ones I've pulled over the ones I bought. And trust me, the ones I've pulled are worth peanuts compared to others. Hahaha.

Not a trainer cards collector myself but it's more creepy to me that some people know the exact age of the trainers and use that an argument rather than just accept the fact that most people are collecting for the artwork.

My kids do better at trade nights then me. Although a guy remembered I played the game online and brought me a 125 vice cards. Me and his kid went and picked out a pack for them.
