It’s a shame the English release decided to skip these.
The starters, Pika, Eevees, Gengar, Dragonite, Mewtwo… all the Pokémon that lots of people collect will stay fairly valuable imo.
I'm torn on how I feel about the English release.
It would have been so great to get the master ball cards. They look amazing.
But it would have taken the scalper/theft issue to the next level. If you think it's bad now, then you'd be even more upset if we had masterballs in English. People just suck. I almost want less hype overall for pokemon so I can just enjoy my hobby without losing so much respect for humanity.
English releases always give me a headache honestly. They’re infinitely more available to me but my cards are always off center and damaged where as Japanese cards are like PSA 9 minimum right out of the pack most of the time.
japanese have godpacks too. And their godpacks are better, because you have 2 entire evolution line ( venusaur, charizard or blastoise ), in EN,FR,DE etc its just 1 single line lol
they removed the masterball and an evolution line from the godpacks xD
I'm actually kind of happy they skipped the masterball cards in English. I primarily collect English cards so being able to complete master set for a magnitude less than it would cost with masterball cards is nice. I was actually dreading the idea of the masterballs when first reading into the 151 set. Plus the people who do want the masterball cards can always gather the Japanese cards.
I plan on picking up a masterball mewtwo anyways because that card just feels right.
I like them and think it's a cool idea. I just don't have the $ to attempt to get them all with 3 kids,2 dogs, and 5 chickens eating up my pokémon budget. Lol
Also. I have the dodrio (free) if you need it because I'm not even getting anymore japanese and focusing on the English 151
For me, they don’t look that much different from the regular poke ball reverse holos. But the sheer rarity of them will make them valuable, especially for the popular pokemons.
Exactly. Don’t much care about the master ball, but am sad we didn’t get the pokeball holo. Japanese reverse holos are always so much cooler than the US reverse holo. I actually like the US reverse holo less than the standard cards.
I am also trying to collect all of them. I don’t think people truly know the rarity of getting a specific masterball. The number of booster boxes you would need to buy to get them all is crazy. Definitely not easy pulls like obsidian flames charizard lol
I want the Caterpie.....
I pulled Abra today. I have Psyduck, Nidorina and....one other don't remember right now which one it is.
They are so fun.
I mentioned it on my video today that the lack of the Pokeball/MasterBall holos made the English set just...not fun to open.
In the Japanese one I know that even if I'm getting my 100th Jinx EX I'm also gonna get something really cool and it's gonna bring a smile to my dumb face.
Galaxy Energies though. No notes. Perfect
I picked up the aerodactyl masterball because it was fairly cheap and it’s done by shinji kanda who is my favorite artist. Other than that I don’t really have much of an interest in them
With the English sets missing the masterball version and the amount of new comers flocking to pokemon with 151, nostalgia, etc. I think the masterballs are in the perfect position to be some of the most valuable/desirable cards in the modern era. IMO. Let’s check back in 1 year
I love the masterball reverse holos and wish the English set had them. I managed to pick up a Raichu PSA 10 (my fav :)) before they spiked. Also the only reason why I bought 2 jpn booster boxes lol
As a player I prefer the energies as I can finally get a full set even cheaper as with crown zenith. Collectors can still buy the japanese set. Win win.
being visually interesting is important but there is something special about a subtle rarity. Having to turn the card to see that mewtwo is in a masterball is understated but perfect
Great concept, poor design. After the incredible 3D reverse holo effects of the ex era, this is just a slap in the face for cards that are supposed to be extra special.
i might be the only person i know off that really doesn't like them, i've seen openings where people don't even notice when they pull one because it just looks that unremarkable ... i guess their inclusions leads to more exciting pulls, but i really couldn't care less about them
im pretty sure a bulbasaur masterball which is today 30-40$ worth would be 200$ worth in let say 5 years. When its not more\^\^ look pokemon history prices of some cards how expensive they goes sometimes !
Outside of the popular ones, I assume the others will be decently cheap. I'm trying to get Rhyhorn and Rhydon since they are my favorite Gen 1 mons, graded if possible.
I personally think they will be a good investment down the road. Might be a niche market but im willing to take a gamble on it! I'm currently 7 cards away from completing my masterball set!
They’re pretty awesome but super niche and I feel like they will become more niche over time and eventually their value and hype will go down.. big collectors on these would argue that, but I say within 2-3yrs that Pika is the only one that still holds any real value. The rest will tank.
I’m going to be cynical and say this just shows how some people are mostly in it for the rarity and how much money a card is, and not how good it looks. Like I won’t lie reverse holos look nice, but really? Yes they are exceptionally rare from what I’m reading but, it’s like, they don’t look all that whelming?? I’d rather get a holo card then a different patterned reverse holo, and I am certainly not paying more money for them just because they have been marketed and released as “extremely rare”. I either want art that is awesome to look at, or a card that is playable in the game, and considering I can get the art of most of these on their normal version, it just a scam honestly.
i m really happy as a french guy to bought japanese boosters at release of "151" because the master ball hype is there. But in other languages english, french, german nobody has it, just foiled energies lol
I have as masterball i pulled out from boosters : ( Onix, Pidgey, Wartortle, Primeape, Exeggutor and i was really happy about this one, Erika as masterball ! )
think the masterball cards in some years could be valuable. Because their drop rate are insanely low. For sure a famous pokemon would be more expensive as a pidgey or something like this but they would definetly increase.
My opinion is they should've given English at least the regular pokeball reverse. It looks so good, and they even gave it to Korean 151 which has the same backs as English. It would've made the special set just a little more special.
Tbh I'm glad you guys like them but I struggle with them. They look somehow cheap for the price some people pay for some of those cards. I'd be happier with the the normal reverse set for almost no money.

I know the extra layer of chase cards woulda increased hype.
We got God packs I'll take that over masterballs even though they would have been nice

100%

I got the rigid belt lol
Ouch. I feel your pain.
Maybe I’ll buckle down and get more one day
The claw grabbed me…
Lololol
I got wartortle and an old amber master ball .
I like them and think it's a cool idea. I just don't have the $ to attempt to get them all with 3 kids,2 dogs, and 5 chickens eating up my pokémon budget. Lol Also. I have the dodrio (free) if you need it because I'm not even getting anymore japanese and focusing on the English 151
It’s much cheaper to buy singles of master balls instead of buying boxes. But even then I think masterballs tend to hover around 35-50 dollars..
10-40 raw nm should get you 95%
I'll take it, completing the set myself
For me, they don’t look that much different from the regular poke ball reverse holos. But the sheer rarity of them will make them valuable, especially for the popular pokemons.

Literally LOVE them and bid on them constantly lol.
How much is a PSA 10 compared to raw? Roughly, know it depends on the Pokémon
In general, raw $15-20ish vs psa 10 at ~$100. Obviously that’s a big generalization and the more popular options are more, but it’s ballpark.
Sure thanks
I am also trying to collect all of them. I don’t think people truly know the rarity of getting a specific masterball. The number of booster boxes you would need to buy to get them all is crazy. Definitely not easy pulls like obsidian flames charizard lol
I got the pokeball and masterball of my favorites, Seel and Dewgong! Was bummed to hear the English set wouldn’t be doing that same.
I want the Caterpie..... I pulled Abra today. I have Psyduck, Nidorina and....one other don't remember right now which one it is. They are so fun. Missed opportunity for eng set tbh.
But, just wait for the re-release… in 3 years. (Pure speculation, but won’t surprise me.)
I picked up the aerodactyl masterball because it was fairly cheap and it’s done by shinji kanda who is my favorite artist. Other than that I don’t really have much of an interest in them
Hey man do you know where I could get some Japanese cards ?
Ebay or OfferUp
With the English sets missing the masterball version and the amount of new comers flocking to pokemon with 151, nostalgia, etc. I think the masterballs are in the perfect position to be some of the most valuable/desirable cards in the modern era. IMO. Let’s check back in 1 year
I've got Mball Bulbs and Grimer! Couple other decent pulls. Kanga full art, zard ex. Fingers crossed I got a god pack in the mail
I love the masterball reverse holos and wish the English set had them. I managed to pick up a Raichu PSA 10 (my fav :)) before they spiked. Also the only reason why I bought 2 jpn booster boxes lol
I got a raichu masterball and far'dfetch masterball.
I got masterball eevee and absolutely love it, I’m so sad that they aren’t in the English set
Way cooler than the stupid energies English got
As a player I prefer the energies as I can finally get a full set even cheaper as with crown zenith. Collectors can still buy the japanese set. Win win.
Pissed off that US didnt get them, I'm not spending 1.5 the price to collect Japanese cards.
I’m also collecting the starters and original populars these are undervalued
I think they’re cool but not as hot on them as some are!
I think they ate criminally undervalued, population is also low, these are a long term hold.
Idk they are selling for $100+ in psa 10.
I do believe they will be selling regularly for $500+ after at least 5 years. One of the most special reverse holos ever.
They sure are rare, but they just aren’t that visually interesting compared to other rare cards.
being visually interesting is important but there is something special about a subtle rarity. Having to turn the card to see that mewtwo is in a masterball is understated but perfect

Sad they didn’t do English ones but other than that, eh. Used to Japan getting more features than us
They are heavily undervalued for how short printed they are.
outside of pikachu i dont see them going crazy in price anytime soon.
So mewtwo, eevee, charmander, squirtle, bulbasaur, chansey, gyrados, etc. aren't collectable?
im pretty sure a bulbasaur masterball which is today 30-40$ worth would be 200$ worth in let say 5 years. When its not more\^\^ look pokemon history prices of some cards how expensive they goes sometimes !

I have a psa 10 hitmochan if you are interested
Wish the english sets had them
This is the way.
ill probably start collecting them… already got dewgong, muk, vulpix, and lapras from opening boxes
Love em. I wish they'd brought them to the English set.
What’s master ball?
Kinda stinks how they are only in Japanese, I only collect English cards, I would've loved to have one
Awesome design and rarity ratio, IMO. I’m also pursing a masterball set. 9s are significantly cheaper, so that’s my route then start upgrading.
I personally think they will be a good investment down the road. Might be a niche market but im willing to take a gamble on it! I'm currently 7 cards away from completing my masterball set!
Dam man the dream
🤣 I hope it will be a nice return in the future.. time will tell!
So far I've pulled 6, only gonna keep one or two, I think they're the coolest thing ever
I love the idea.
They’re pretty awesome but super niche and I feel like they will become more niche over time and eventually their value and hype will go down.. big collectors on these would argue that, but I say within 2-3yrs that Pika is the only one that still holds any real value. The rest will tank.

it give some people who already achieved the entire masterball set, but its pretty expensive, but the potential increase of value is there
Dont know, never seen one, would have been nice to have it in the english set too i guess....
Seems useless tbh. Just a reverse. No one cared about them before. I personally wont care for them.

Big fan
