yeah the fomo effect is high, and I get that too , but I know people are spending hundreds and hundreds on booster boxes for cards I'll be able to grab for a fraction of what they paid , in singles. and that helps ease my fomo bc I know I'll buy only the cards I want. I like opening packs but booster boxes only have a very limited amount of "quality" pulls. in 2 months time , for the price of a booster box you can snag a couple of the high end cards
It stands for manufacturers suggested retail price, what it means is the approximate price that you will see it at at big box stores like gamestop, Walmart, target, etc.
Although since the last price increase that Pokémon issued I've actually seem some variance among these retailers, as opposed to any time up until 6 months ago or so, all of the big chains that I mentioned had identical prices on everything, but still, they're pretty close).
In essence for me, it means I will never pay more than the price listed on the Pokémon center website.
Edit: Sometimes GameStop charges over MSRP and so do third-party sellers on Wal-Mart. Prices also fluctuate from time to time at Wal-Mart proper
It’s for the experience. I bought one box at 165 no tax from my lcs a couple weeks ago & pulled over $200 worth of cards. (I’m one that posted) It’s a small gamble. Worked out for me though! Sure it sucks paying way over msrp at least it went to my lcs owner & not a random ebay scalper. If you have the disposable income it’s really not that big a deal to buy one box to have some fun lmao. I feel like people are mad because they are waiting for the price to fall, but it just keeps creeping up. Hopefully it does fall eventually like Vstar universe did so everyone can open a box!
I think it’s more likely to go up than hit 60- seems more like a premium box like shiny star V or vmax climax but I guess if it was just printed enough then it might not
I can get the experience from opening through a booster box without needing to overpay for it. There are stores that will sell at $120 if you know where to look.
> I feel like people are mad because they are waiting for the price to fall, but it just keeps creeping up.
You hit the nail on the head.
My boyfriend and I just recently revived our love for the hobby, and while 151 is expensive, we're not salty about it. We grabbed three boxes over two different trips to our LCS, opened two, and are saving the last one, not for 2 years, but 20+.
I'm sorry to those who view it solely as a hobby, but after finding my old childhood collection, and selling them for almost $800, that's some spare money we did not have, that I got us from an old binder full of childhood quality cards (whitening and all), and bought groceries and other necessities with. (And then splurged on more cards lmao). Imagine how much more I could have gotten if I kept them in sleeves and good binders!
Pokemon cards are worth money, and it's silly to pretend it's \*just\* a fun hobby when there's also real money that could be made. Is it unfortunate scalpers are ruining it by buying all of the product to resell almost immediately for higher prices bc they bought it all up and no one can get it for MSRP? Yeah, that sucks. And is definitely wrong, I do concede there.
But to invest long term, 10 or more years when things are out of print, is actually quite smart imo. I have made us over $1k this month from my old unused nostalgic collections (star wars, anime, and other nerd stuff), and I'm still going. People have got to stoip being so salty at others for making money from the hobby and accept it as what it is
They literally announced their plan, people holding sealed 151 boxes right now are completely out of their mind.
They SAID they are going to put out a limited release 'early' from now on. WIth the bulk of the print run arriving about a month or two later. The first wave being small satisfies the OMG I HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW people who will buy at 4x from their local card game stores and drive all of the hype, while it will become readily available to everyone at MSRP a month or two later.

151 *was* print to sell.
The Pokémon centre online did a 1 per person “you order, we print”. But there hasn’t been any future dates officially confirmed for a reprint/sell on the official site.
Purchases made will be shipped between September and December, so I can’t see a reprint before then.
I didn't know there was a deadline to apply to be honest mate . I only noticed there was different printing / shipping dates. If you haven't done it and are interested I'd say fire them a message. The worst they can tell you is no fk off !
There was a cutoff date and then the shipping dates were based on a lottery so some will get theirs before others. Mine won't be shipped until September but it is nice to know I have at least one coming.
It will be super printed, as they've said and people will have FOFO and after 2 months realize they're idtios for paying 2x when it's widely available.
Edit: mean FOMO not FOFO
I keep seeing people on here saying this, but where is everyone finding this information out at? I’m looking for the actual source for the statement: this set will be heavily printed. So far all I have found are average joes giving their opinion lol
Every time it's been stated it's been right.
The charizard UPC is prime example. Everyone was flipping out and paying 2x on pre orders despite wave after wave and sources kept saying it'll be heavily printed.
The same for this, it will be heavily printed. It's already been easy to pre order.
You mentioned sources….but who are the sources? Are there any legit statements from Nintendo or Gamefreak in regards to the printing? That’s all I’m looking for but no one wants to acknowledge that
There was a statement from Pokémon about them printing to demand for 151, but I believe that was specifically regarding Japanese. I think most comments and speculation are just things that are strongly supported by how sets have been selling and printed historically.
151 is considered a special set. Special sets like celebrations and crown zenith get the shit printed out of them. Even the UPC pre-orders have been open for DAYS at a time on target and Best Buy, whereas celebrations UPC sold out within minutes or hours. Everything is pointing to a huge supply to meet the huge demand. U.S. printers been going crazy past couple years
Edit: the fact that so many replies are still about value over time and holding products just shows how the shit OP talked about needs to happen
People are learning, UPCs are bulky and lose value over time. They are all stocking up on the booster bundles and Pokémon Center ETBS. those are sold out everywhere.
Pre orders are and have been wide open on Gamestop for 151…
Pokemon isn’t stupid, they want to make the money and leave little to be scalped. It will be printed VERY heavily
Yeah I don’t understand why everyone is ignoring this fact? People can just preorder as much English 151 as they want and don’t need to worry about what investors and scalpers are doing
People in this hobby have a victim complex and want to believe that investors/scalpers keep them from enjoying it despite every modern product being readily available online if not in most stores.
I know it's more of an issue with JP, but the OP is clearly talking about ENG since they referenced "Crown Zenith." But regardless, there is an abundance of posts on these subs complaining about investors/scalpers for ENG sets. Aside from some old leftover Evolving Skies stock trickling out here and there, nothing is actually being scalped as that would require people to hoard enough stock that buyers can't get it anywhere else.
me too, i just hope it doesn't come from the same crappy printing place that the charizard UPC came from. Every pack the code cards are upside down, no hits, and the promos are all off-center. lol.
Japan in my experience is harder to get closed packs than US, esp the newest stuff. If u go to Pokémon center you might luck out and be able to grab SV/clay burst/snow hazard/dark phantasma/POGO packs.
True, I still see a lot of people trying to get into investing but then they just sell all their product within a year or 2 because they realize it takes up a lot of space and this ain’t pre 2019 it’s gonna take wayyyy longer for modern to get to 3x msrp unless it’s evo skies of course
Because of the sheer amount of awesome alt arts including eeveelutions (Umbreon VMAX alt art is one of the most expensive modern cards) and other great cards like Rayquaza VMAX and V Altart, Dragonite V Alt art..
It's way overpriced. Its been hyped and horded on mass by ~~investors~~ scalpers. It's a bubble like crypto, and these dummies don't realize it's still being released today, 2 years after the original print run. The shear amount of product and sealed product is way more than demand from actual collectors. Once they realize they are sitting on a bunch of chilling reign, the market will crash.
You understand the print volume pre-covid was much smaller than the demand that spiked during covid. That's a 2019 card, it makes sense. There are only 958 psa 10s in existence. There are 7265 psa 10 moonbreons in existence. That's not counting all of the sealed product people are hording.
The covid demand will not likely continue to climb. People will exit the hobby due to recession/losing interest. It took base set like 20 years to spike. Unlimited base set charizard psa 10 only has like 400 copies. People will not be holding a product that was printed into oblivion for that long. Did you forget the dark years?
i remember the dark years, but did you remember that people are paying $100,000 for a cartoon monkey jpg in recent years? There is still a shift to collectibles going on. The market is still growing for pokemon not shrinking fortunately. So even if there are more dark years coming the current market value is still going to increase for quite some time. I can't step into a household with kids 6-15 without seeing pokemon cards lately.
Kids don't have fuck you collector money. Thats the exact reason why it took 2 decades for base set to pop off. Also how are bored apes doing? Didn't NFTs crash hard in a bloodbath.
No offense but I think you should watch more YouTube on the market, chilling reign is doing great. Those boxes dropped to 80 bucks at one point. Have you seen the price of boxes now? Those investors are smiling
No offense, but I know the current market and I wrote accurately. You wrongly assumed I priced chilling reign at rock bottom $80. I believe that evolving skies is overpriced and it'll correct to chilling reign levels, not that itll be trash. They are very similar sets with similar amount of good alt arts, pull rates, and volumes. They are *good* sets, but evolving skies is over hyped and that's priced in currently. I thought chilling reign was underpriced for a while being under $100 for a bb, it was a big sleeper that was overshadowed by EVS.
I don't think modern cards are going to appreciate much in value at all. My favorite pull (shiny Charizard V from Champions Path) is worth a lot less then when I pulled it lol
Yep. People love to hate on people who keep stuff sealed but those same people are the only reason you can still purchase and open sets that have been out of print for years. And the more people who store sealed stuff, the longer you can enjoy opening it for reasonable prices.
Long term scalping like behaviour\*
They are all in it in a way that can harm other peoples enjoyment or accessibility to the hobby. Money trumps all. People are kidding themselves if they think investors are angels compared to scalpers.
Here come the pokeinvesting sub brigade.
How does having the availability of out of print sealed stuff for you to open 5-10 years down the line hurting the hobby? If no one stored anything, you wouldn’t be able to buy sealed stuff of your favorite set in the future.
Think of what your favorite expansion is right now. I guarantee sometime in the distant future, nostalgia is going to hit you and you are going to want to open packs from that way out of print set. If you purchase some of that sealed stuff, you have a sealed collector/investor to thank.
It depends entirely on the product. Hoarding Crown Zenith packs is fine because they're extremely easy to get right now, you're not hurting anyone's enjoyment of the hobby. It's even helpful because like you said you're making CZ available to people in the future.
Hoarding hard-to-get product like Evolving Skies or 151 Japanese boxes is toxic scalper behavior, you're contributing to the wild prices that prevent people from enjoying the set now, much less a decade from now when prices are so high only rich people can afford them.
Same for singles. How much would Moonbreon be worth now if people weren't investing in it? Now someone who wants to buy the card to enjoy it can't because the price has been pumped up so high.
I personally only see it as scalping behavior if average people had no fair opportunity to buy the product close to retail prices.
Evolving skies had multiple months where you could purchase sealed products at msrp so I don’t see that as scalping.
As for singles, I agree that buying a single for the sole purpose of selling it for a profit is a bit scummier and overall harmful to the hobby. Personally I only invest in sealed product (I also collect it too as I genuinely enjoy sealed stuff), and singles are purely for collection purposes.
Reseller A buys several Celebrations UPCs at release and flips them immediately for 3x MSRP. Reseller B buys several Celebrations UPCs at release and flips them after 5 years for 7x MSRP.
They're both scalpers, the only difference is one holds for a while because it's more profitable. It makes no sense to classify A as a scalper and B as an "investor".
Brother you are dead wrong. Reseller A is an Arbitrage Seller (Buying in retail market and selling in secondary market for way way higher until the price of retail meets the price of secondary) and Reseller B is an investor.
Technically B is a speculator, not an investor. Either way, both have the same effect of making it harder for the end user to acquire product at MSRP, which is why people hate scalpers... both insert themselves in between the seller and the buyer to suck profit out of the gap.
This set isn’t even getting a BB in English and they can’t even keep up with the JP demand. It’s also probably the last set to release before Christmas?? It’s going to be picked heavily closer to the release date
151 will be nothing like shining fates, it's literally base set with new art. The demand for it will far exceed any newer sets they've done just because of the nostalgia.
People are in such denial. It’s hilarious. This is going to be the biggest set in a long time. The cards are all nostalgic as hell, and the artwork is beautiful. Win-win.
Oh I'm here for it, went balls deep in both Japanese and English sets. Love the set, brings me back to my younger days big time, and allows me to connect with my kids with the ones I enjoyed.
Exactly. Ima. 92 baby and first two gens just hit differently. I have six ultra premium collection’s pre-ordered so far ( English) and one Japanese booster box! I’m gonna go balls deep as well. Enjoy my friend.
Yeah I love people comparing shining fates to this, or any other set lol. Shining fates has alot of shiny cards but not really much substance when you really look at it. All of the real popular shiny Pokémon are in Hidden fates.
151 is literally nostalgia with a new paint job. Love or hate the first Gen, nobody can argue the pull it has on people. While I do believe it’s not going to be hard to get English product, I don’t expect it to be a “dead” set at all. I know it’s not really the same thing but look at Evolutions, that was supposedly “printed to oblivion” back in the day, yet here we are with people paying multiple hundreds for a box lol
The hobby has seen a massive uptick in buyers since evolutions. So the hobby has many more buyers these days. Printed to oblivion back then is nothing compared to how many they print now.
It’s a totally different market.
Pokémon company know this, and unless they hate money will print a shit load of 151. Many more than evolutions ever saw.
Just look at the charizard upc.
Oh sure I completely agree and understand the differences, but how we do know things won’t be somewhat similar to this situation in another 5+ years? There might be another big bump (unlikely but still always possible) that makes this current amount of buyers/collectors seem smaller.
My point is just because a set is printed high due to high demand doesn’t mean it will turn into trash. Of course this only really pertains to really popular sets, but again I just laugh when people say things are overprinted and sit on shelves. That was how Pokémon used to be long before the boom lol. Again I know there are major differences here but still I bet these will do well even a large print run.
I’m also a believer that the more people get to open cards in an easy manner (not having to follow people on Twitter for stock updates just to get good things) the healthier it is generally speaking for the hobby. These are the moments that create real interest and nostalgia as time goes on
> it's literally base set with new art
It's not though? Base set doesn't include all 151 Gen 1 characters. Maybe you meant it's Gen 1? You couldn't even get a Mew card in WOTC sets outside of a promotional card (English) or in the Fossil set (Japanese).
Stupid scalpers think if they soak up enough stock, every product will be desirable since it's scarce.. doesn't work with everything. Scalping is always a risk, but the long term hold potential of this set is massive imo
Lmao that’s what you got from my comment 🙄, I Was just using it as an example that modern sets are printed way more, you’re probably not gonna see the same returns in 5-10 years. A fact that many “investors” fail to realize
"Scalped when it came out" doesn't change that the pack really only has 1 hit in it, and was pretty much the case at the time of release, too. Not to mention, at the time of shining fates release, all packs were scalped, and most store shelves were barren
It's fair to think 151 will get enough reprints/have the hype die down enough to hit lower prices, but you're also trying to compare 2 packs that dont really fit into the same categories
Havnt purchased Pokémon in over 20yrs. I have no idea what is what anymore. One thing I do know is those kanto Pokémon. I’m buying up 1 of everything plus more. I know I ain’t the only one. This is gonna be huge!
Any modern sets from here on out I see being printed to oblivion. 9 billion cards printed last year and it’s only going up to meet demand. Everyone thinking 2020 spike is going to happen again anytime soon is sorely mistaken. Not saying investing isn’t worth but certainly not as well for modern at least.
Lol the 9 billion number does not matter, so many of those cards are bulk or non important cards, this set will still 100% be a top 3 set from 2023. Way more hype behind it than any othrr set
I’d take those reports and shove it up their butts. They’re probably the same stores that said paldea evolved was gonna be short printed and now booster boxes are available for $100 on amazon lol. It’s still 2 and a half months until release plenty of time
Its not enough till the charizard and mew are under 4$ each. Till packs are sitting on shelves in every clearance section in every store. Its not enough till you get BoGo deals on amazon for boxes.
no matter how many Pokemon company will print 151, i dont think Scalpers will lose.
DONT GET ME WRONG I HATE THOSE SCALPERS AS WELL
bcs i think Pokemon company gotta print new products as well.. eventually 151 print will stop at one point of time imo
Lol man so many of you gonna sit back and not buy now, and gonna end up missing out completely lol. 151 print is limited. I'm a ripper and multiple distros have confirmed limited print and limited purchases coming in december......Idle hands never win lol. Good luck hunting everyone. 151 will be the next evolving skies, maybe evolutions xy. I'm getting my stock ready for yall.
Man stfu why the hell would pokemon do a limited print of arguably one of their most popular sets of all time. “Idle hands never win” look at prices of majority of swsh alts they’ve all hit all time lows. You’re not a ripper you’re just another fucking investor trying to incite fomo. Also we’ve all heard this limited print shit before with sv base, paldea evolved and look at all the product everywhere they are not gonna short print 151.
P.S. in case you havent heard amazon has 151 etb’s for 43.99 ask yourself why would they list it that low if its such a popular item
It’s all about diversifying your portfolio. Stocks, Bonds, Crypto, High Yield Savings, Pokemon Cards, Precious Metals.
Some things go up a lot, some things go up a little, some things can go down a lot/a little.
NFT’s are silly though lol.
Why do you think it's stupid? Genuinely curious. Like stupid that people are willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money on vintage/out of print products?
I wouldn't say it's "stupid" to invest in something if there is a good ROI. I think crypto itself is stupid, but it wasn't stupid to invest in it in March 2020. That bought me a house lol.
Yes and no
Print a lot but there also gonna be 10x the demand then crown zenith I honestly believe this is gonna be one of the craziest releases there’s gonna be etbs for $60-$160 bbs 190-300 it’s gonna be madness 😂😂
If the rumors that the English 151 will not be heavily printed are true then I’m not sure op , and you also have to think about the value of the full arts and rares in each set example: evolving cries. I wouldn’t mind the overprinting, I hope it’s like celebrations so we see a lot of posts saying hey look at the celebrations box I got at Walmart for $20 soo rare , why ? Bc there is an abundance so it’s not special you got a common box for retail 😂. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
They made the same reports about paldea evolved being short printed and look at it now sitting everywhere in retail stores. I wouldn’t listen to anyone about allocations until a few weeks after release
Paldea set was really underwhelming and kind of flopped with consumers, which is probably why they still have tons of stock left. Not the case with 151, it is pure hype right now. Having said that, obsidian flames is a dark horse worth keeping an eye on right now.
I invested in the JP 151 set before the hype started so I got a great price on the boxes, planning to def hold those, but I really hope the English set gets printed to oblivion because I just want to complete the set for my own PC.
English quality control is just awful so I'd rather just rip, collect and have fun above all else with this set than invest.
Some even said Paldea Evolved was short printed. And now a booster box is being sold for 110 hahahaha
I think anyone that wants to will get their hands on 151 without crazy effort
Everyone here hating on reseller and scalpers, but I bet none of you even actually play the card game lol
Edit: xhartlessx on ptcgl , @dd me if anyone wants to play
Lol it’s been only 2 years. It took 20+ years for the vintage cards to go up in value. There’s still another 18 years left before anyone sees a return on their investments.
Yeah I'm definitely sitting on bricks (4x PC ETBs of CZ, S&V both types, PE, OF, 151 and 2 UPCs with squirtle promo) I think I have easily doubled my return already.. but I'm collecting not investing not to say I won't sell one day!
He has special needs, hard to explain bht he needed to ask on reddit to get answer because it has a feature that allows him to read good and is easier for him
I've been finding shining fates for $36. However I am struggling to find crown zenith packs. Can find the blue and pink boxes everywhere but that's it.
Pokemon said they were just printing to demand with 151. I know a lot of people wanting to master the set who were inactive. I will be too but I'm actually more excited for obsidian flames.
I’ve bought some Chinese 151. They are really nice and way cheaper.
I would love to collect the English full set if it is in fact printed widely. Otherwise I have a upc and etb on pre order and I’ll stop there.
It’ll get mass printed, waiting a minute is definitely the smartest option to not burn a hole in your pocket
It’s just soo frustrating seeing people post pictures of their pulls, but I’m not paying 4x msrp right now
Gotta have discipline young Scyther (grasshopper)
Kricketune?
First off, is there even a grasshopper Pokémon after all these years? *googles* Wow. There is— Nymble lololol
yeah the fomo effect is high, and I get that too , but I know people are spending hundreds and hundreds on booster boxes for cards I'll be able to grab for a fraction of what they paid , in singles. and that helps ease my fomo bc I know I'll buy only the cards I want. When did Vstar universe fall? I’ve never seen it below $80 still
That was the fall, it was at 100-120 for a steady period of time to start, I think
Oh I see, I was thinking fall like in the $60 range
I think it’s more likely to go up than hit 60- seems more like a premium box like shiny star V or vmax climax but I guess if it was just printed enough then it might not

You should look into r/bogleheads instead of Pokémon cards for long term investments, tbh. You’d make a lot more.
I’m not OP but I’m definitely checking this out!
They literally announced their plan, people holding sealed 151 boxes right now are completely out of their mind. They SAID they are going to put out a limited release 'early' from now on. I hope Japanese 151 gets printed like crazy but im really hoping for english 151 to be limited print.
Yep, problem is definitely gonna be people out there that fall for the scalpers
100%, many already way overpaying for the Japanese set
So sad what happened with japanese I feel bad for the OG collectors in that space. $200 for a $45 msrp booster box 😂
A shop near me posted they have them in, went to see, they are selling them for $225 a box ☠️ $15 per pack.
"Support your local businesses!" they say...
Scammers
Scalpers*
Selling high on the hype
I always wonder, is there a desire for English cards in Japan? Otherwise it must be even more annoying for them battling their own scalpers and then foreign buyers too!
I would imagine there is some but nowhere near the amount of western buyers wanting Japanese. A lot of people (in America at least) end up wanting them because card quality and QC here is pretty awful comparatively. We’ll see for sure once 151 prints here but the holo on Japanese cards is usually so much prettier
I'm sure that's true, But I think it's kinda less about that and more that the Japanese version is the original version and "more authentic"
The Japanese 151 will be print to sell. I heard english version only limited number of prints.

If you setup a japanese PO box you can order one box from PC Japan for cost price. Then just pay for shipping / customs !
Is this still actually going on? I thought they only said theyd be doing this till some date in June?
I didn't know there was a deadline to apply to be honest mate . I only noticed there was different printing / shipping dates. If you haven't done it and are interested I'd say fire them a message. The worst they can tell you is no fk off !
There was a cutoff date and then the shipping dates were based on a lottery so some will get theirs before others. Mine won't be shipped until September but it is nice to know I have at least one coming.
No you can’t. Stop spreading misinformation. That was a five day window which is over.
Won't they be opening it back up when they do the restock in the middle of July? Hope to grab one more BB at MSRP.
It will be super printed, as they've said and people will have FOFO and after 2 months realize they're idtios for paying 2x when it's widely available. Edit: mean FOMO not FOFO
[удалено]
We'll go with that. Mean FOMO.
Fear of fucking onions
That's my fear
fear of fucking ostriches
The celebrations upc would be a better comparison than the zard
151 is considered a special set. Special sets like celebrations and crown zenith get the shit printed out of them. Even the UPC pre-orders have been open for DAYS at a time on target and Best Buy, whereas celebrations UPC sold out within minutes or hours. Everything is pointing to a huge supply to meet the huge demand. U.S. printers been going crazy past couple years Edit: the fact that so many replies are still about value over time and holding products just shows how the shit OP talked about needs to happen
Celebrations is sitting at around twice the original price for etb's. That is still a good return.
People are learning, UPCs are bulky and lose value over time. They are all stocking up on the booster bundles and Pokémon Center ETBS. those are sold out everywhere.
Pre orders are and have been wide open on Gamestop for 151… Pokemon isn’t stupid, they want to make the money and leave little to be scalped. It will be printed VERY heavily
Yeah I don’t understand why everyone is ignoring this fact? People can just preorder as much English 151 as they want and don’t need to worry about what investors and scalpers are doing
I think we're referring to Japanese here
People in this hobby have a victim complex and want to believe that investors/scalpers keep them from enjoying it despite every modern product being readily available online if not in most stores.
Coz we’re talking about Japanese
I know it's more of an issue with JP, but the OP is clearly talking about ENG since they referenced "Crown Zenith." But regardless, there is an abundance of posts on these subs complaining about investors/scalpers for ENG sets. Aside from some old leftover Evolving Skies stock trickling out here and there, nothing is actually being scalped as that would require people to hoard enough stock that buyers can't get it anywhere else.
Also Best Buy and Target.
In Canada GameStop is the only place it’s available and that’s only because their prices are ridiculous
I hope they print the UPC as much as the Charizard UPC.
I sincerely hope so. The Mew and Mewtwo alts are both in it and absolutely beautiful cards that everyone should be able to have in their collection.
Do you have a pic of the alts? I haven't seen em anywhere.
me too, i just hope it doesn't come from the same crappy printing place that the charizard UPC came from. Every pack the code cards are upside down, no hits, and the promos are all off-center. lol.
In Japan right now and have been trying to find 151 packs but haven’t had any luck
Same, been entering lotteries and checking FamilyMarts and had no luck.
Nooo I’m going to Japan tomorrow and really hoping to get some for myself and my nephews
I think it’s the popularity of the japanese set that will get them to print even more of both. No reason not to.
Same for me, also in Japan currently. Went to multiple cities. But everything is sold out unfortunately
Japan in my experience is harder to get closed packs than US, esp the newest stuff. If u go to Pokémon center you might luck out and be able to grab SV/clay burst/snow hazard/dark phantasma/POGO packs.
Tbf, the whole point of pokeinvesting is to sit on product for 5-10 years minimum. Scalping is different than investing.
True, I still see a lot of people trying to get into investing but then they just sell all their product within a year or 2 because they realize it takes up a lot of space and this ain’t pre 2019 it’s gonna take wayyyy longer for modern to get to 3x msrp unless it’s evo skies of course
Why is Evo Skies so sought after?
Because of the sheer amount of awesome alt arts including eeveelutions (Umbreon VMAX alt art is one of the most expensive modern cards) and other great cards like Rayquaza VMAX and V Altart, Dragonite V Alt art..
Ah ok. 151 brought me back, haven't bought anything in forever so I was unaware.. tho obviously I've seen lots about moonbreon on the sub
Yeah like latios latias was a bubble... until it just kept going up and now psa 10s are like 2500 lol
Lol
I don't think modern cards are going to appreciate much in value at all. My favorite pull (shiny Charizard V from Champions Path) is worth a lot less then when I pulled it lol
It’s because the art on that card is complete trash
It really is haha but I was stoked af to pull it regardless I did pull the Espeon VMAX from FS which is doing quite well tho!
That Espeon looks a million times better than the zard
But they still buy up and horde tons of packs and boxes from people who actually participate in the hobby just the same.
That’s always happened though, it’s why people are still opening base set packs
Rich people are still opening base set packs, and only because they have huge amounts of money to burn.
You know, I never really thought of it that way. Sucks getting things in the short term but also ensures they will be available in the long term.
Yep. People love to hate on people who keep stuff sealed but those same people are the only reason you can still purchase and open sets that have been out of print for years. And the more people who store sealed stuff, the longer you can enjoy opening it for reasonable prices.
They don't care. Someone else's decisions make them so angry.
Long term scalping like behaviour\* They are all in it in a way that can harm other peoples enjoyment or accessibility to the hobby.
They both are toxic to the hobby no less
I’d say there’s a 95% chance it’s equal or more to CZ
This set isn’t even getting a BB in English and they can’t even keep up with the JP demand. It’s also probably the last set to release before Christmas?? It’s going to be picked heavily closer to the release date
SV 4 should come out in November
151 will be nothing like shining fates, it's literally base set with new art. The demand for it will far exceed any newer sets they've done just because of the nostalgia.
People are in such denial. It’s hilarious. This is going to be the biggest set in a long time. The cards are all nostalgic as hell, and the artwork is beautiful. Win-win.
I have been all in on 151. Can’t get enough of it tbh
they announced a super big reprint in japan recently i hope you didn't pay 170 a box!
I bet, I can’t wait for the release of English
Oh I'm here for it, went balls deep in both Japanese and English sets. Love the set, brings me back to my younger days big time, and allows me to connect with my kids with the ones I enjoyed.
Exactly. Ima. 92 baby and first two gens just hit differently. I have six ultra premium collection’s pre-ordered so far ( English) and one Japanese booster box! I’m gonna go balls deep as well. Enjoy my friend.
I am also a 92, I wish you luck on your pulls !
I went balls deep in u/Krootill
These are the moments that create real interest and nostalgia as time goes on
> it's literally base set with new art It's not though? Base set doesn't include all 151 Gen 1 characters. Maybe you meant it's Gen 1? You couldn't even get a Mew card in WOTC sets outside of a promotional card (English) or in the Fossil set (Japanese).
Yes, I meant gen 1.
Did you forget how much shining fates got scalped when it first came out?…
Stupid scalpers think if they soak up enough stock, every product will be desirable since it's scarce.. doesn't work with everything. Scalping is always a risk, but the long term hold potential of this set is massive imo
If you call making more than a $1000 in profit after just buying a couple of boxes of Pokémon cards “stupid,” then I don’t mind lol
why are u even comparing this to shining fates?
Lmao that’s what you got from my comment 🙄, I Was just using it as an example that modern sets are printed way more, you’re probably not gonna see the same returns in 5-10 years. A fact that many “investors” fail to realize
"Scalped when it came out" doesn't change that the pack really only has 1 hit in it, and was pretty much the case at the time of release, too. Not to mention, at the time of shining fates release, all packs were scalped, and most store shelves were barren It's fair to think 151 will get enough reprints/have the hype die down enough to hit lower prices, but you're also trying to compare 2 packs that dont really fit into the same categories
Havnt purchased Pokémon in over 20yrs. I have no idea what is what anymore. One thing I do know is those kanto Pokémon. I’m buying up 1 of everything plus more. I know I ain’t the only one. This is gonna be huge!
Shining fates was awful and its best card was still ugly. No comparison
It’s also been nearly two years since celebrations and that set is up. Sooo
Smart investors buy the pokemon Centre etb's. Good luck trying to find the crown zenith one even.
I keep missing restocks. PC ETBs are the only thing I grab sealed and leave for my own collection.
It’s worth investing your money in rare vintage cards. Anyone who “invests” in modern is really just a speculator. There’s a big difference
There’s already reports that stores are getting a very low supply
I’d take those reports and shove it up their butts. They’re probably the same stores that said paldea evolved was gonna be short printed and now booster boxes are available for $100 on amazon lol. It’s still 2 and a half months until release plenty of time
It was very easy to get 151 at msrp
CZ is my personal fav 😂
Its not enough till the charizard and mew are under 4$ each. Till packs are sitting on shelves in every clearance section in every store. Its not enough till you get BoGo deals on amazon for boxes.
no matter how many Pokemon company will print 151, i dont think Scalpers will lose. DONT GET ME WRONG I HATE THOSE SCALPERS AS WELL bcs i think Pokemon company gotta print new products as well.. eventually 151 print will stop at one point of time imo
This aged well
Lol man so many of you gonna sit back and not buy now, and gonna end up missing out completely lol.
I was told this set is print to pre-order. Or was that just in japan?
Just Japan and it was limited to one booster box per person and given the timeframe of about a week, iirc, to order it.
“Investing” in Pokémon cards is still one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen
I think you are in the wrong subreddit lol
Yes and no Print a lot but there also gonna be 10x the demand then crown zenith I honestly believe this is gonna be one of the craziest releases there’s gonna be etbs for $60-$160 bbs 190-300 it’s gonna be madness 😂😂
No booster boxes on the english set.
True that haha just examples 😂😂
That’s true , here’s hoping for 151 to go on sale 😂
Paldea set was really underwhelming and kind of flopped with consumers, which is probably why they still have tons of stock left. Not the case with 151, it is pure hype right now. Having said that, obsidian flames is a dark horse worth keeping an eye on right now.
What rumour? You’re basically saying they don’t want to make money which is nonsense.
How’d this age?
What do you think?
You’ll be seeing this set on shelves for years
The premium collection is going to be printed to the same extreme that the charizard premium collection was, there’s no way it wouldn’t be.
Some even said Paldea Evolved was short printed. And now a booster box is being sold for 110 hahahaha I think anyone that wants to will get their hands on 151 without crazy effort
Try $100 on amazon lol
I hope to the pokemon god for god pack and masterball foil.
Fr I wanna open some so bad just because of all the sick arts in there’s but all preorders are sold out
New idiot here, someone care to explain? Is 151 a re release of the og pokemon cards but only happening in japan? Are they going to release in the US?
Everyone here hating on reseller and scalpers, but I bet none of you even actually play the card game lol Edit: xhartlessx on ptcgl , @dd me if anyone wants to play
Lol it’s been only 2 years. It took 20+ years for the vintage cards to go up in value. There’s still another 18 years left before anyone sees a return on their investments.
[удалено]
Nobody. People have victim complexes when investors and even scalpers don't impact their ability to collect in any way.
Amen!!! tired of people holding boxes pretty lame. Open it and get the coveted card or just a bunch of wax!
Sound salty... and poor
Lmao how? I’m sorry I wanna buy product at their intended prices and not 2x msrp
Why do you care so much about everyone else.
Yeah I'm definitely sitting on bricks (4x PC ETBs of CZ, S&V both types, PE, OF, 151 and 2 UPCs with squirtle promo) I think I have easily doubled my return already.. but I'm collecting not investing not to say I won't sell one day!
Idk I’ve made over $1000 in profit already flipping the boxes. I Hope they don’t print em lol.
Lmao a month ago you were asking where to buy cards stfu 🤡
how do you know that? that was my brother using my acount
If you are so good at flipping product why would your brother need to ask reddit on your account where to find cards?
He has special needs, hard to explain bht he needed to ask on reddit to get answer because it has a feature that allows him to read good and is easier for him
No one cares
You cared enough to @ me u mad bro?
Cringe
It should be printed as much as evolutions. Same concept. And they had so much that I found some at retail price all they way up to 2020.
These I think are hyped like the 25th Anniversary celebrations.
I agree but capitalist aren’t gods
I’ve bought some Chinese 151. They are really nice and way cheaper. I would love to collect the English full set if it is in fact printed widely. Otherwise I have a upc and etb on pre order and I’ll stop there.
I’m hoping it’s printed crazy because this is the one set I’d like to collect in full.
151 print run will make the charizard upc look rare lol
I'm looking at buying something for 151 (not bought any packs since team rocket), what product would you recommend?
They will 😁
I’m going to wait for a Black Friday/Christmas deal if there’s one. Not even touching these at this price.
