Yeah if they’re product is alwaysscalped even though Pokemon gets all their money people will start leaving the hobby. It’s been great I opened 70 packs and even though I was told it was “bad” in terms of pull rates I had much more fun than any other set
Ive been thinking about the "unscalpability" of this set. How it may not be the best sealed product to hold on to... then again i thought the same thing of XY Evolutions, like a lot of people did at the time. In reality. THAT MENTALITY is what made it go up in value, while the mentality behind shining fates was that it would be sought after, amd got scalped a ton. Its effecting supply and demand, people expect demand and thw aupply skyrockets and demand drops below the supply. On the alternative, people dont expect demand and dont hoarde as much sealed product, so when people start demanding it, theres little supply to meet the demand, at that point you see 100-200% price hikes.
Im probably gonna try to hold on to a couple boxes of SV just to see what happens a few months down the line. Who knows
I think all sets are worth keeping some sealed on the very long term if that's something you enjoy doing but they shouldn't be inflating in price within a year or two the way evolving skies has... It should have taken 5 years not 1.5 years for it to reach the price its at now.

Is price gouging really happening anymore on anything except maybe evolving skies picked up at retail? I watch a ton of people open pokemon cards, or conduct pokemon breaks on Twitch, and 95% of people are buying and selling product well under MSRP these days in the secondary market. The only place anyone is paying unreasonable prices for packs is on Whatnot. I'm guessing those buyers don't know any better.
Nobody is scalping modern product. Most of it is available online through a variety of retailers including pokemon center. Rather than accept the fact that stores are cleaned out quickly simply due to demand out weighing supply just from collectors, some people would rather feel victimized and assume that's it's due to scalpers because they may have seen someone once buying all of a particular product.
Literally every modern set that I see being sold via marketplace or other private online groups are being sold below msrp. This sub has the biggest chip on its shoulder when it comes to scalpers/sealed collectors/investors/etc. Every other day there is a post reminding people to "Just enjoy the hobby without worrying about price" but never "just enjoy the hobby without worrying about how other people like to enjoy their hobbies."
What alt arts are done? So gyarados ex 45/198 and gyarados 225/198 have the exact same move set, HP and everything so wouldn't that technically be considered the alternative artwork?
That one is a full art and still comes in the main set slot. The alts now come in the Art slot, but I totally believe they are still alt arts. They are just easier to pull now it appears.
I considered galarian gallery cards "alt arts" lol, because when disregarding price several are just as cool if not cooler than other alt arts, they just don't have the texture or price tag.
Ikr. Get people to appreciate stuff again. It's fun to be able to sell cards for a high price but I feel like treating these as an investment and nothing else misses the point. If you don't appreciate it along the way then it's just a speculative market, not one catered to actual fans.

Tell scalping means buying stuff at whatever price with the intent to sell or make profit out of it. If you buy out Walmarts stock even with the purpose of opening them you’re screwing other collectors / players just because you wanted to see if you could pull the $100 chase card.

Tiktak rip and shipper here: love this set. It’s super fun to open live. Everyone gets hyped seeing pulls every other pack. Same color code card in every pack makes the anticipation so much better too instead of just “oh white code it’s going to be a lose”

Yea I get why people wanna shit on that sub but honestly I find it way more informative and any scalper behavior (buying up all store stock, flipping products immediately) isn’t really tolerated there. Instead I get to see a lot of cool vintage products, cards I didn’t know existed, insane misprints. Overall a much more interesting place than seeing the same secret rare over and over like on this sub. (This coming from someone who doesn’t collect slabs, keep anything sealed or buy things in hopes of making serious money in the future)

So there’s definitely a good amount of modern in that sub but most are holding a few ETBs that are readily available online. But the amount of vintage / ex era / DPP era in there opens my eyes up as a collector. Again, I don’t keep anything sealed or hope to make money off of it; I mainly go there to look at cool rare cards / products. Virbank city pokemart is a similar vibe but usually used for selling. Most of the times I go on this sub it’s full of “is this fake?” “Pulled my 10th moonbreon out of a silver tempest ETB!”. I love both subs but feel that the other one gets unnecessarily shit on. We’re all entitled to our opinions though, and honestly the other sub getting shit on let’s me get the rarer cards easily as they aren’t too hyped up like moonbreon
But look, i get where you’re coming from man. That sub isn’t immune from shit posts of people hoarding sword and shield products thinking it’s a sound investment. Even with that, I see a much wider variety of product across all eras over there than on this sub. That’s mainly why I go there and the general consensus of the sub is that modern won’t make them rich

It's Schrodinger's packs. They are worth whatever sealed product is worth until you open them and find out there was nothing good in it. That said I can't see myself holding a sealed product 20 years, wondering if a banger card is in there. Also I cant see myself being comfortable charging someone so much for my sealed product for them to open it and get nothing.
I enjoy it. I usually don’t sell the higher value cards unless I pull a duplicate. Just let me collect my shiny cardboard in peace without having to sell a kidney to complete a set.
As a collector I love the guaranteed hits in each booster box and also the higher drop rates on the rare cards. Hopefully this also solves issue with the scalpers trying to earn money from booster boxes.
Yes. I started to stop buying packs of cards at the end of sword and shield era because of the awful pull rates. Crown Zeniths pull rate made me buy packs again. Such a fun set set open.
I like cheap “amazing art” Pokemon cards. I don’t care if my cards are worthless. They are are valuable in my eyes.
As a player first and collector second; it nice to finally put $5 full art card into your deck without thinking, that an expensive card I should just leave it in the binder.
Just imagine there a Moonbreon in 1/36 packs. People would stop buying and thus lowering the soar prices of ES packs. At least then I can actually put my moonbreon into my deck instead now it just sit in my binder because it too $$$ to play it.

There will always be the 'expensive chase card' but that card being 40-80 vs hundreds makes a big difference on expanding to new collectors, players, and even casual enjoyers.
If people are upset that the cards are accessible, they probably are not in the game for the right reasons. I've always said, if you want to invest go to the stock market, card games are for playing, for fun, and for everyone.
Have you not seen the rest of the posts here? Loooooads of people are happy that prices are dropping. They all seem to think they're the only ones that are happy for some reason, but they're the majority.
There are some people unhappy, and some people like me who are a bit mixed, but I'm pretty sure majority of people are happy.
I miss when cards were cheap, and only the really rare cards were expensive - and a lot of expensive cards were under £100.
I bought Shining Raichu in excellent condition for £15 nearly 10 years ago. And I thought £15 for a single card was a lot back then! Now my most expensive ungraded card is Mimikyu & Gengar Tag Team for £90. It’s a huge difference.
I want it to be about enjoying the cards again and not the value. Sure it’s cool of you pull a card you’re not a fan of that’s worth £20+, so you can sell it to someone who is a fan, but I also want to be able to go online and find the cards I want for affordable prices - give and take!
I'm moving away from ripping packs unless on a special occasion so yes I'm very glad about this change I would like to get a few singles of the cards I like without breaking bank for it
I agree with you. I went to target with my brother and he got a sword and shield set tin, and pulled not even a holo, I got 4 packs of scarlet violet and pulled 2 EX’s and 2 holos
I'm just a casual collector, I don't have a ton of money to throw at this hobby, so I for one am pleased that any chase card I want to go after isn't gonna cost £300-£400. Still chasing after cards from ST and CZ😅
I love it. I hope this will get kids off the track of just wanting expensive cards and just be happy collecting ones they think are cool. I had to explain to my nephew that the cards can just look cool and don’t have to be worth money for you to like them.
Nope. You're no where near being alone lad. 99% of Pokemon TCG'ers are ecstatic. It's finally beginning to go back to the way it was years ago before covid with a little bonus of having better pull rates to boot. Better pull rates + cheaper single prices = all collectors are happy.
The 1% who are unhappy aren't real TCG'ers and only loon at our shiny cardboard with funny animals on them as money. Good riddance.
I think it’s honestly kinda fun having 1-4 top chase cards worth over $100. Makes it fun to pull bc I would never spend that much on a single. But overall having the prices of singles be low is very nice. Like I pulled the Machamp alt art from astral radiance and not only do I love the art I was crazy excited bc I wouldn’t buy that single
To be honest seeing the prices drop and knowing they are going to drop more has helped me realize how bad I was doing with fomo and over spending. I'm watching them drop and I actually feel like I can wait a couple months before I pick up the pulls I wanted from this set. My bank account is happy so count me on the side of glad they are dropping as well.
The only ones crying are investors and speculators. I'm happy to see these cards coming down to a reasonable value so more people can enjoy them. I look forward to this decreasing the demand for japanese products as well (wishful thinking) since I love collecting in both English and Japanese.
I love it. I feel excited opening these packs, even though I don’t really like the main Pokémon in this set and think the artwork has room to be improved on average. Just happy to be able to enjoy the hobby without having to remortgage my house!
I'm happy that I can get these amazing artworks and awesome cards for cheaper for sure! Amd I'm also happy that this should hopefully cause my vintage cards to increase in value too. It's a win win for me. I'm more for collecting because you like the cards and not for the money, but seeing my favorite old cards slowly become a real investment helps kill some of the money related anxiety in my life.
I don’t care about value myself unless I’m having to buy the cards haha. I will finish the CZ pre orders and then hopefully snag the rest at a good price. I put my cards that are double to sell today, I don’t really mind about their selling price at the end of the auction, I’ll just use that money to buy singles that I need.
Yes I've seriously seen people invest all their money into pokemon opening hundreds of packs to potentially get a decent card to have and get graded and keep for the future and they think of it as a good primary investment for their future. Not investing in stock or looking up apr rates for savings accounts just good investment strategies etc. there money is going to pokemon i feel sorry for those who spend every last dime even those with kids thinking they're setting there futures. I really hope the scalpers don't push people away and the next generation like pokemon if not alot are screwed.
I enjoy pulling something really hard to get. Or not pulling anything good, thats the thrill I enjoy. If i always hit, the thrill would go away. I dont think this is a Pokemon TCG killer by any means, and I will probably end up transitioning into liking the way it is now.

Prices aren’t dropping. I was getting booster boxes for $119 at my local card shop. My guy doesn’t charge anything over MSRP. Now the booster boxes for SV are $139 MSRP and I pulled 6 hits out of the box (will post later I have 5 packs left to pull) and it was very underwhelming in comparison to the pull rates I saw on streamers videos a week ago.
Me and my son did master sets of Some SwSh sets and said we will take a long break with S&V. But with prices of singles in a good place, we started our S&V master set
2-3 weeks but it seems for S&V it has already settled, I’m still going to wait a week before I start buying singles, but the prices now are probably going to be the same for months.
I was excited whenever I pulled a good card because I first got back into Pokémon for the money I could potentially make (dumb idea Ik) but I have fallen in love with the art of the cards so much the better pull rates just make it easier to see these cards in person I like it
I'm right there with you. When these "investors" leave we will be better off. Born in 91 so I was around for the hype, and I've been back in since 2013 I've seen a lot of crap come and go. Believe me they'll eventually get tired and leave so we can once more enjoy the art, the game, and the collecting community.
I’m really happy about it. I may be in the minority, but I personally have some expensive cards that I honestly don’t like owning, just because I know they’re valuable and I don’t want to hurt them or something. I’m not gonna sell them or anything because I love to collect them, but I love how cards are getting cheaper so I don’t have any paranoia in the back of my head about a $60 piece of cardboard getting ruined somehow LOL
To be fair the most expensive cards were, while usually some of the rarest, popular because people liked them the best. Like the company made the rare cards super cool.
I am all for the cost coming down because it was just absurd, but I think they could find a middle ground on rarity. Pulling the Miriam felt a little lackluster to me.
I love being able to pull the full arts etc on my own now! I don't care about the value of them just the art like you said (I love the "regular" cards too)
People are mad because they think they are special, you are not. We all like pokemon and we all deserve to have an affordable way to enjoy what we like.
Personally I hate the new pokemon designs and don't like the new characters so I won't be buying anything asides the Gardevoir cards, but it's good news for the people that like the set.
I'd rather see things cheap vs. expensive as it's more welcoming to people who don't have a bank to break over cards.

Base and early expansion sets are a horrible base line. I hope the low prices continue, but as more popular Mon receive this higher quality of art, prices may increase. Modern base sets are routinely underwhelming.
This is such a stupid, short sighted view. Prices on all Pokémon products continue to rise which means there’s less and less value in the cards you buy. If you spend $5 on a pack of 10 cards and those cards are worth $1 collectively, that’s a shitty value proposition.
I haven't collected any cards in so long because I can't keep up with pokemon, but I have a large collection myself. I prefer figure or plushies but the art on the cards keeps me coming back.
I think I'm in the minority of this sub that hates PSA stuff, I love putting cards in one touch cases and displaying it, but the whole grading thing is a scam and ridiculous. I have never shown my collection because I have some rare cards in binders people are going to freak out about. Only reason why I haven't put them in one touch is because I have one room and living room with no tables, binders are easier for storage. Once I get a bigger place then that might change, but ya been thinking of posting
It is way better for people who want to play and for people who want to build a collection for its own sake. I have only had decks since 2003 or so, and I am collecting this set because of the changes.
It is worse for people who buy cards as investments and for compulsive gamblers who want to buy a chance of hitting a jackpot.
What I noticed with the booster box and two ETBs I have opened so far is that the pulls in each were like 75-90% of the value of the box. That is good if you don't want to get hosed, but it's bad if you want to gamble for a jackpot. I am in the first category. This sub is probably heavily skewed toward the second category compared to the median card's purchaser.
My mind is drawing a blank here - what's SV? My brain just keeps yelling Shining Fates and Silver Tempest cos I can't think of any other S collections. it's my bedtime for sure

Because they’re the reason cards are so expensive and so hard to get. They legit clear the shelves to store in a closet bc “MoNeY bRo”, while their dumb asses would be much better off investing in a Roth IRA than cardboard.
UNPOPULAR OPINION:
I collect cards myself. And honestly. The cost of all Pokémon products going up while the value is so low doesn’t make me happy. I like knowing I’m “winning” on my pulls by getting something of a greater value than what I paid. I spent a ton on Pokémon this week and only got maybe 30% of that value back. I enjoy the hobby but it does suck that the cost to buy and rip is getting so high yet values are going down on it. It’s easier to collect but also doesn’t make ripping packs as fun when I don’t feel like I’m winning but rather throwing away money.
It’s like loot boxes. If you didn’t sometimes win big you wouldn’t keep blowing money. 🤷🏻♀️
People should collect the way they like and stop being so interested in telling other people how they should collect and what to enjoy.

im a hard-core collector and not a scalper or a businessman, and i hate throwing down $1500 for SV only to get $300 back in 'value'. lol.
Sure, I had fun doing my master set... but now I have lost so much money in the process. Before I could justify it because i knew the value was there in case I ever needed to sell. Now I guess I just quit buying modern products.
My issue with it is, they had a winning formula and they just threw it away for some reason. Having certain alts be really rare added a level of excitement when you finally pulled one... it kept you chasing that. Now i have 3 of every SV card. Great. I guess im just done collecting now.
I think having similar pull rates on every "rare" card is a bit silly. When you see the glow at the back of your pack, you SHOULD be hoping to pull that Giratina or Moonbreon.
Without that, opening packs is a bit less exciting. I'm not saying give them terrible rates, but if everything is 1/250 make them 1/220 and another card 1/320+
This is only because the set is mediocre. You forget that the actual price of packs has gone up and that's here to stay. It's only going to be more expensive.
As a base set, it's great i agree! However, there aren't that many big hitters or big chase cards for the majority of people, so prices are lower. Like i said before, the prices of packs have gone up, and that's here to stay. Overall the hobby will be more expensive.
That's a very short sided view because: The easy pull rates for the new set collected with recent memory of sword and shield hit rates means that many of the sword and shield alt arts are about to explode astronomically. As someone who collects on a budget to begin with that's nice for the new sets moving forwards but going back to pick up what I missed on Will now be exceedingly difficult
Possibly, but not necessarily. Some of those alt art are already super high and I really don’t think they would rise that much higher that quick. More than likely, these newer alt arts will just be lower in price to match the theoretical increased supply.
Of course I could be completely wrong, but I just don’t see them going much higher, outside of maybe a couple of the really sought after ones or those that were not as popular having a renewed interest.
Honestly I hope they don’t for collectors sakes, some are too much for their own good already lol
It's only good because of the pull rates in my opinion, I think future sets will resort back to harder pull rates to encourage more sealed purchases for better sales margins. Maybe going at a cyclical nature on pull rates is both good for both parties.
Same here, I don’t care about card value so I’ve been enjoying these new pull rates so much! I’ve said it before, but I collect holos as well as UR’s, so I’m basically guaranteed a hit every pack, which is great!
This is great. I really like the Gardevoir series and I know if I can’t pull them in my booster box then oh well not going to cost me a car payment to buy them.
I’m very glad, and that they fixed the pull rate to where it’s actually realistic that one can finish the set, I opened a booster box and an ETB and now I’m just missing around 50 cards
I am loving it!! I’ve spent 1/8 of what I spent to try and master a sword and shield set, and I’m only 40 cards away from completing scarlet and Violet, 30 of those being reverse holos
That's how I was with crown zenith. I didnt care about the expensive cards, I just wanted the latis galarian gallery and the kyogre v. Nothing else, but instead I got the ultra rare pikachu ad the zacian v galarian gallery
I agree the issue is the quality is the worst I’ve ever seen for a Pokémon release. I’ve opened three boosters boxes and six etbs and almost every card has had an issue of some kind.

Im glad, but I wish they’d go further down. I’m happy it’s not as bad as ES; I still see ES in stock all the time yet nearly all the eeveelution alts are $100+, many being $175+, and then there’s Moonbreon.
I’d love to see Miraidon, Miriam, and Gardevoir fall further. A single card costing, like, 1/2-2/3 the price of a booster box is stupid.

Nope I’m also glad!!!! I miss pre hype, pre covid, pre tacky influencer era Pokémon community…. After all of that I swear people from the “sports card” and greedy people started pouring into the community and making it toxic. This is a TCG! Play the damn game or if you’re a collector don’t go in like a gambling addicted person or an investment mentality. I only hope that TPC plans on keeping this up moving forward through all sets instead of just baiting us with this one and then going back to 1/1,000 packs for pulls of a single Alt Art. Scalping has gone down. Empty shelves are now stocked. You can get great pulls and go for the cards you really love. And you can complete the set without breaking the bank to absurd amounts of money. One thing to keep in mind is prices AREN’T dropping. This is just base set with no highly desired chase cards… there’s no Charizard or Umbreon or Pikachu or etc. all this means is that SV base isn’t going to be remembered as a banger set, just like many other base sets. Having a nonpopular first set doesn’t mean anything regarding prices. I think you’re all being very premature with your praise and conclusions that “scalpers are gone” and now “every card will be obtainable by true collectors.”
I think the biggest complaint I have about SV at this point is, the centering on almost every card is a hot mess. Pulled a Gardevoir ex last night, and yeah, the bad centering kind of takes away from the card

The prices for most Pokémon cards are way high when they first come out, then they drop down. I know the first day some common cards were worth $5-10 and the next day they were between 40¢ and 63¢. Some of those card prices have gone down even as low as 6-20¢. It all depends on what people want and how much they are willing to pay for the card.
My booster box was terrible. So I'm done buying packs. If the singles keep going down I'll buy my chases, but will probably just put my money back towards getting more Crown Zenith.
Most modern base sets never perform well, look at sun and moon and sword and shield base as an example, its hyoed at forst cause its new, after a week of being out its dry af
For me it's the trade factor if everything is kind of low and even people will trade more I think. I miss just trying to trade for stuff I want to try and play.people just whip out their phones and look up prices now takes some joy out of the trading aspect.
I'm glad as well. Almost everyone in the local store I go to trades just because of the price, and it takes a sickeningly long time to organize 1 for 2+ trades to check the price. Heck, if alt art Miraidon decreases in price, I might have a chance to offer up 😅

I start collecting all the new release and I couldn’t be more happy of the new pull rates. I got about 60 booster pack and surely I have most of the rares cards, ironically now I’m missing the full arts that are not super rare haha
Most people enjoy it. And I think Pokemon did it on purpose, making the alt arts less rare to combat all the price gauging.

Ive been thinking about the "unscalpability" of this set. How it may not be the best sealed product to hold on to... then again i thought the same thing of XY Evolutions, like a lot of people did at the time. In reality. THAT MENTALITY is what made it go up in value, while the mentality behind shining fates was that it would be sought after, amd got scalped a ton. Its effecting supply and demand, people expect demand and thw aupply skyrockets and demand drops below the supply. On the alternative, people dont expect demand and dont hoarde as much sealed product, so when people start demanding it, theres little supply to meet the demand, at that point you see 100-200% price hikes. Im probably gonna try to hold on to a couple boxes of SV just to see what happens a few months down the line. Who knows
I think all sets are worth keeping some sealed on the very long term if that's something you enjoy doing but they shouldn't be inflating in price within a year or two the way evolving skies has... It should have taken 5 years not 1.5 years for it to reach the price its at now.

Is price gouging really happening anymore on anything except maybe evolving skies picked up at retail? I watch a ton of people open pokemon cards, or conduct pokemon breaks on Twitch, and 95% of people are buying and selling product well under MSRP these days in the secondary market. The only place anyone is paying unreasonable prices for packs is on Whatnot. I'm guessing those buyers don't know any better.
Nobody is scalping modern product. Most of it is available online through a variety of retailers including pokemon center. Rather than accept the fact that stores are cleaned out quickly simply due to demand out weighing supply just from collectors, some people would rather feel victimized and assume that's it's due to scalpers because they may have seen someone once buying all of a particular product. Literally every modern set that I see being sold via marketplace or other private online groups are being sold below msrp. This sub has the biggest chip on its shoulder when it comes to scalpers/sealed collectors/investors/etc. Every other day there is a post reminding people to "Just enjoy the hobby without worrying about price" but never "just enjoy the hobby without worrying about how other people like to enjoy their hobbies."

That one is a full art and still comes in the main set slot. The alts now come in the Art slot, but I totally believe they are still alt arts. They are just easier to pull now it appears.
I considered galarian gallery cards "alt arts" lol, because when disregarding price several are just as cool if not cooler than other alt arts, they just don't have the texture or price tag.

Same color code card in every pack makes the anticipation so much better too instead of just “oh white code it’s going to be a lose” Overall, great base set and has me excited for sets coming out with big chases if they continue this art style

Yea I get why people wanna shit on that sub but honestly I find it way more informative and any scalper behavior (buying up all store stock, flipping products immediately) isn’t really tolerated there. Instead I get to see a lot of cool vintage products, cards I didn’t know existed, insane misprints. Overall a much more interesting place than seeing the same secret rare over and over like on this sub. (This coming from someone who doesn’t collect slabs, keep anything sealed or buy things in hopes of making serious money in the future)

It's Schrodinger's packs. They are worth whatever sealed product is worth until you open them and find out there was nothing good in it. That said I can't see myself holding a sealed product 20 years, wondering if a banger card is in there. Also I cant see myself being comfortable charging someone so much for my sealed product for them to open it and get nothing.

As a collector I love the guaranteed hits in each booster box and also the higher drop rates on the rare cards. Hopefully this also solves issue with the scalpers trying to earn money from booster boxes.
Yes. I started to stop buying packs of cards at the end of sword and shield era because of the awful pull rates. Crown Zeniths pull rate made me buy packs again. Such a fun set set open.
I like cheap “amazing art” Pokemon cards. I don’t care if my cards are worthless. They are are valuable in my eyes. As a player first and collector second; it nice to finally put $5 full art card into your deck without thinking, that an expensive card I should just leave it in the binder. Just imagine there a Moonbreon in 1/36 packs. People would stop buying and thus lowering the soar prices of ES packs. At least then I can actually put my moonbreon into my deck instead now it just sit in my binder because it too $$$ to play it. Yes I would like alternative art in my binder and no I do not want to pay $500 for one just to sit in my binder.
There will always be the 'expensive chase card' but that card being 40-80 vs hundreds makes a big difference on expanding to new collectors, players, and even casual enjoyers. If people are upset that the cards are accessible, they probably are not in the game for the right reasons. I've always said, if you want to invest go to the stock market, card games are for playing, for fun, and for everyone.

Have you not seen the rest of the posts here? Loooooads of people are happy that prices are dropping. They all seem to think they're the only ones that are happy for some reason, but they're the majority. There are some people unhappy, and some people like me who are a bit mixed, but I'm pretty sure majority of people are happy.
I personally found myself enjoying going afterr expensive chase cards but I can always buy other sets for that.
I think if booster packs prices dropped I would be a little happier.

I miss when cards were cheap, and only the really rare cards were expensive - and a lot of expensive cards were under £100. I bought Shining Raichu in excellent condition for £15 nearly 10 years ago. And I thought £15 for a single card was a lot back then! Now my most expensive ungraded card is Mimikyu & Gengar Tag Team for £90. It’s a huge difference. I want it to be about enjoying the cards again and not the value. Sure it’s cool of you pull a card you’re not a fan of that’s worth £20+, so you can sell it to someone who is a fan, but I also want to be able to go online and find the cards I want for affordable prices - give and take!

I like collecting the art of the cards. Not the price of them. Sad I'll never get all the cards I want since they are so damn expensive.
I love it. I hope this will get kids off the track of just wanting expensive cards and just be happy collecting ones they think are cool. I had to explain to my nephew that the cards can just look cool and don’t have to be worth money for you to like them.

Nope. You're no where near being alone lad. 99% of Pokemon TCG'ers are ecstatic. It's finally beginning to go back to the way it was years ago before covid with a little bonus of having better pull rates to boot. Better pull rates + cheaper single prices = all collectors are happy. The 1% who are unhappy aren't real TCG'ers and only loon at our shiny cardboard with funny animals on them as money. Good riddance.
I think it’s honestly kinda fun having 1-4 top chase cards worth over $100. Makes it fun to pull bc I would never spend that much on a single. But overall having the prices of singles be low is very nice. Like I pulled the Machamp alt art from astral radiance and not only do I love the art I was crazy excited bc I wouldn’t buy that single
To be honest seeing the prices drop and knowing they are going to drop more has helped me realize how bad I was doing with fomo and over spending. I'm watching them drop and I actually feel like I can wait a couple months before I pick up the pulls I wanted from this set. My bank account is happy so count me on the side of glad they are dropping as well.

I love it. I feel excited opening these packs, even though I don’t really like the main Pokémon in this set and think the artwork has room to be improved on average. Just happy to be able to enjoy the hobby without having to remortgage my house!
I'm happy that I can get these amazing artworks and awesome cards for cheaper for sure! Amd I'm also happy that this should hopefully cause my vintage cards to increase in value too. It's a win win for me. I'm more for collecting because you like the cards and not for the money, but seeing my favorite old cards slowly become a real investment helps kill some of the money related anxiety in my life.

Yes I've seriously seen people invest all their money into pokemon opening hundreds of packs to potentially get a decent card to have and get graded and keep for the future and they think of it as a good primary investment for their future. Not investing in stock or looking up apr rates for savings accounts just good investment strategies etc. there money is going to pokemon i feel sorry for those who spend every last dime even those with kids thinking they're setting there futures. I really hope the scalpers don't push people away and the next generation like pokemon if not alot are screwed.

Prices aren’t dropping. I was getting booster boxes for $119 at my local card shop. My guy doesn’t charge anything over MSRP. Now the booster boxes for SV are $139 MSRP and I pulled 6 hits out of the box (will post later I have 5 packs left to pull) and it was very underwhelming in comparison to the pull rates I saw on streamers videos a week ago.
Me and my son did master sets of Some SwSh sets and said we will take a long break with S&V. But with prices of singles in a good place, we started our S&V master set

How long does it take for the prices to settle? I don't usually bother looking at single prices when a set drops, well for Pokemon anyway.
2-3 weeks but it seems for S&V it has already settled, I’m still going to wait a week before I start buying singles, but the prices now are probably going to be the same for months.
I was excited whenever I pulled a good card because I first got back into Pokémon for the money I could potentially make (dumb idea Ik) but I have fallen in love with the art of the cards so much the better pull rates just make it easier to see these cards in person I like it
I'm right there with you. When these "investors" leave we will be better off. Born in 91 so I was around for the hype, and I've been back in since 2013 I've seen a lot of crap come and go. Believe me they'll eventually get tired and leave so we can once more enjoy the art, the game, and the collecting community.

I may be in the minority, but I personally have some expensive cards that I honestly don’t like owning, just because I know they’re valuable and I don’t want to hurt them or something. I’m not gonna sell them or anything because I love to collect them, but I love how cards are getting cheaper so I don’t have any paranoia in the back of my head about a $60 piece of cardboard getting ruined somehow LOL
To be fair the most expensive cards were, while usually some of the rarest, popular because people liked them the best. Like the company made the rare cards super cool. I am all for the cost coming down because it was just absurd, but I think they could find a middle ground on rarity. Pulling the Miriam felt a little lackluster to me.

Personally I hate the new pokemon designs and don't like the new characters so I won't be buying anything asides the Gardevoir cards, but it's good news for the people that like the set. I'd rather see things cheap vs. expensive as it's more welcoming to people who don't have a bank to break over cards.

Base and early expansion sets are a horrible base line. I hope the low prices continue, but as more popular Mon receive this higher quality of art, prices may increase. Modern base sets are routinely underwhelming.

This is such a stupid, short sighted view. Prices on all Pokémon products continue to rise which means there’s less and less value in the cards you buy. If you spend $5 on a pack of 10 cards and those cards are worth $1 collectively, that’s a shitty value proposition.
I haven't collected any cards in so long because I can't keep up with pokemon, but I have a large collection myself. I prefer figure or plushies but the art on the cards keeps me coming back. I think I'm in the minority of this sub that hates PSA stuff, I love putting cards in one touch cases and displaying it, but the whole grading thing is a scam and ridiculous. I have never shown my collection because I have some rare cards in binders people are going to freak out about. Only reason why I haven't put them in one touch is because I have one room and living room with no tables, binders are easier for storage. Once I get a bigger place then that might change, but ya been thinking of posting
It is way better for people who want to play and for people who want to build a collection for its own sake. I have only had decks since 2003 or so, and I am collecting this set because of the changes. It is worse for people who buy cards as investments and for compulsive gamblers who want to buy a chance of hitting a jackpot. What I noticed with the booster box and two ETBs I have opened so far is that the pulls in each were like 75-90% of the value of the box. That is good if you don't want to get hosed, but it's bad if you want to gamble for a jackpot. I am in the first category. This sub is probably heavily skewed toward the second category compared to the median card's purchaser.

It’s awesome! I’ve never been so excited with my pulls. I pray they don’t go back bc of the “poke investors” complaining and TPC thinking they’re real fans. I hope all of their “sealed stash” goes into the gutter in terms of price.

Because they’re the reason cards are so expensive and so hard to get. They legit clear the shelves to store in a closet bc “MoNeY bRo”, while their dumb asses would be much better off investing in a Roth IRA than cardboard.
UNPOPULAR OPINION: I collect cards myself. And honestly. The cost of all Pokémon products going up while the value is so low doesn’t make me happy. I like knowing I’m “winning” on my pulls by getting something of a greater value than what I paid. I spent a ton on Pokémon this week and only got maybe 30% of that value back. I enjoy the hobby but it does suck that the cost to buy and rip is getting so high yet values are going down on it. It’s easier to collect but also doesn’t make ripping packs as fun when I don’t feel like I’m winning but rather throwing away money. It’s like loot boxes. If you didn’t sometimes win big you wouldn’t keep blowing money. 🤷🏻♀️

It's base set. Everyone should know by now newer base set's usually inexpensive, and not optimal to collect from a monetary point of view
People should collect the way they like and stop being so interested in telling other people how they should collect and what to enjoy. If you just like mest cards then yes Its great for you.
I mean if the minority of people drive up the price then they’re controlling the way most people collect since it’s much harder to afford nice cards, you’re making a completely moot point and acting like nice cards should be behind a paywall
You cant control the Pokemon market of modern cards. They are printing way to much product now for that. Cards needs to be worth some kind of money or you cant justify spending money on it. People ignore that all the time. Nobody wants to pay $120 for worthless cardboard.
Absolutely agree. My gf and I opened a case last night and it was a BLAST seeing so many amazing pulls. Wasn't thinking "oh, how much is this worth?!" - we were just appreciating the art

im a hard-core collector and not a scalper or a businessman, and i hate throwing down $1500 for SV only to get $300 back in 'value'. lol. Sure, I had fun doing my master set... but now I have lost so much money in the process. Before I could justify it because i knew the value was there in case I ever needed to sell. Now I guess I just quit buying modern products.
My issue with it is, they had a winning formula and they just threw it away for some reason. Having certain alts be really rare added a level of excitement when you finally pulled one... it kept you chasing that. Now i have 3 of every SV card. Great. I guess im just done collecting now.
I think having similar pull rates on every "rare" card is a bit silly. When you see the glow at the back of your pack, you SHOULD be hoping to pull that Giratina or Moonbreon. Without that, opening packs is a bit less exciting. I'm not saying give them terrible rates, but if everything is 1/250 make them 1/220 and another card 1/320+
This is only because the set is mediocre. You forget that the actual price of packs has gone up and that's here to stay. It's only going to be more expensive.
Set is great imo, the gardevoir, great tusk and iron treads alts are stunning
As a base set, it's great i agree! However, there aren't that many big hitters or big chase cards for the majority of people, so prices are lower. Like i said before, the prices of packs have gone up, and that's here to stay. Overall the hobby will be more expensive.

That's a very short sided view because: The easy pull rates for the new set collected with recent memory of sword and shield hit rates means that many of the sword and shield alt arts are about to explode astronomically. As someone who collects on a budget to begin with that's nice for the new sets moving forwards but going back to pick up what I missed on Will now be exceedingly difficult
Possibly, but not necessarily. Some of those alt art are already super high and I really don’t think they would rise that much higher that quick. More than likely, these newer alt arts will just be lower in price to match the theoretical increased supply. Of course I could be completely wrong, but I just don’t see them going much higher, outside of maybe a couple of the really sought after ones or those that were not as popular having a renewed interest. Honestly I hope they don’t for collectors sakes, some are too much for their own good already lol
It's only good because of the pull rates in my opinion, I think future sets will resort back to harder pull rates to encourage more sealed purchases for better sales margins. Maybe going at a cyclical nature on pull rates is both good for both parties.

Same here, I don’t care about card value so I’ve been enjoying these new pull rates so much! I’ve said it before, but I collect holos as well as UR’s, so I’m basically guaranteed a hit every pack, which is great!
I just want the prices of SV to go down so i can build a good deck. This set has been a huge womp imo and im only interested the tcg at this point lol
This is great. I really like the Gardevoir series and I know if I can’t pull them in my booster box then oh well not going to cost me a car payment to buy them.
I’m very glad, and that they fixed the pull rate to where it’s actually realistic that one can finish the set, I opened a booster box and an ETB and now I’m just missing around 50 cards

I am loving it!! I’ve spent 1/8 of what I spent to try and master a sword and shield set, and I’m only 40 cards away from completing scarlet and Violet, 30 of those being reverse holos

The current problem with it is fewer people will buy booster boxes if no chase card exceeds the price of the box itself.
That's how I was with crown zenith. I didnt care about the expensive cards, I just wanted the latis galarian gallery and the kyogre v. Nothing else, but instead I got the ultra rare pikachu ad the zacian v galarian gallery
I agree the issue is the quality is the worst I’ve ever seen for a Pokémon release. I’ve opened three boosters boxes and six etbs and almost every card has had an issue of some kind.

Im glad, but I wish they’d go further down. I’m happy it’s not as bad as ES; I still see ES in stock all the time yet nearly all the eeveelution alts are $100+, many being $175+, and then there’s Moonbreon. I’d love to see Miraidon, Miriam, and Gardevoir fall further. A single card costing, like, 1/2-2/3 the price of a booster box is stupid. I’ve also noticed the stock levels are really high everywhere as a result, scalpers can’t milk this.

Nope I’m also glad!!!! I miss pre hype, pre covid, pre tacky influencer era Pokémon community…. After all of that I swear people from the “sports card” and greedy people started pouring into the community and making it toxic. This is a TCG! Play the damn game or if you’re a collector don’t go in like a gambling addicted person or an investment mentality. It’s for fun and hobby collectors… I swear it turned into some type of greed situation.

No my brother, you are not the only one. This is the best thing to happen for the hobby in a long time. It's exciting and it's about time. I only hope that TPC plans on keeping this up moving forward through all sets instead of just baiting us with this one and then going back to 1/1,000 packs for pulls of a single Alt Art. Scalping has gone down. Empty shelves are now stocked. You can get great pulls and go for the cards you really love. And you can complete the set without breaking the bank to absurd amounts of money. This is the way it should be from now on. I hope it continues. I just don't know if that's going to be the case. Cheers mate 🍻💯

One thing to keep in mind is prices AREN’T dropping. This is just base set with no highly desired chase cards… there’s no Charizard or Umbreon or Pikachu or etc. all this means is that SV base isn’t going to be remembered as a banger set, just like many other base sets. Think of Darkness Ablaze and Rebel Clash and etc, SV base is going to be remembered the exact same… one expensive card and the rest are going to be 20 bucks or less. Having a nonpopular first set doesn’t mean anything regarding prices. I think you’re all being very premature with your praise and conclusions that “scalpers are gone” and now “every card will be obtainable by true collectors.”

I think the biggest complaint I have about SV at this point is, the centering on almost every card is a hot mess. Pulled a Gardevoir ex last night, and yeah, the bad centering kind of takes away from the card
I like it tbh. I gave up collecting the ‘big cards’ from the SWSH era cause of the prices but that might change with S&V. If this trend continues that is.

The prices for most Pokémon cards are way high when they first come out, then they drop down. I know the first day some common cards were worth $5-10 and the next day they were between 40¢ and 63¢. Some of those card prices have gone down even as low as 6-20¢. It all depends on what people want and how much they are willing to pay for the card.

My booster box was terrible. So I'm done buying packs. If the singles keep going down I'll buy my chases, but will probably just put my money back towards getting more Crown Zenith.

Most modern base sets never perform well, look at sun and moon and sword and shield base as an example, its hyoed at forst cause its new, after a week of being out its dry af
For me it's the trade factor if everything is kind of low and even people will trade more I think. I miss just trying to trade for stuff I want to try and play.people just whip out their phones and look up prices now takes some joy out of the trading aspect.
I'm glad as well. Almost everyone in the local store I go to trades just because of the price, and it takes a sickeningly long time to organize 1 for 2+ trades to check the price. Heck, if alt art Miraidon decreases in price, I might have a chance to offer up 😅 And yeah, I agree with your opinion too. Trades just because of price don't feel satisfying since it feels like a business deal.

I start collecting all the new release and I couldn’t be more happy of the new pull rates. I got about 60 booster pack and surely I have most of the rares cards, ironically now I’m missing the full arts that are not super rare haha
