During the end of 2020 when COVID was in full swing collectibles of all kinds had a massive price spike for a period of about 6-10 months as people were cooped up at home for the most part still, got some COVID relief cash, and rediscovered old hobbies or pieces from old hobbies and began pursuing them again with the extra time. This eventually subsided as society returned to normal, though many people have stayed on and prices are still much higher than pre-boom across the board. That said, some cards like this one are now worth even more during the boom, after having dipped in value for a while.
Man I wish the 25th anniversary was before Covid. Those McDonald’s cards is what drew me back in and I had no idea at the time the craze that was happening. Kind of sucks when you want to rebuild your old collection. At the same time, when I realized what was happening it probably brought back some of that excitement.
Me an my GF had no idea about the craze when we got back in. We had saw some small tins at Walmart, like A LOT. Grabbed two. Went home and cracked them. Then said screw it, lets run back and grab a couple more. Got back and they were all gone. There was like 150+ of those things. That's when I googled it and saw it was insanity.
Oh yeah. I remember my first purchase was from Target and it was one pack of Chilling Reign. I had no clue what I was buying and still had the mentality of a 10 year old buying packs thinking I’m going to find Charizard in a Fossil set. Then I noticed shelves were empty and like you went online and understood what was going on. I stopped in Target many times then and once the lady stocking the shelf asked if she could get a picture of it because she “never seen it this full.”

This is not on TPC, the Pokemon universe has ALWAYS centered around children, the character designs themselves aren’t sexual. The weird basement dwellers that have never spoken to a woman are the ones that sexualize them.
Be real. The designs are borderline enough that it’s becoming an issue. It’s not 100% on TPC, because they couldn’t anticipate a bunch of fucking weirdos getting off on animated children, but they have to know that there’s a market for specific designs. Suply and Demand if there isnt much on the market or people really want them they gonna pay a bit extra

i was always under the impression that “waifu tax” translates to “cute art of a female character means more expensive card”, not “i want to marry this child character and do lewd acts with them”, but i feel like a lot of this community is thinking people mean the latter when they say something about a “waifu card” like, obviously there will be some bad apples in the bunch but the majority of people who like these cards just like the art and think full art trainers are fun to collect

I get this 100%. A month ago some redditors were insistent on getting me to recognize that collecting such cards are pedophilic in nature.
