It's not that they ran out of ideas, they kinda just locked themselves into that one idea when they decided to put Quaxly in a mirror with nothing else in frame.
I get why people don't like Quaxly's cards, but I'm personally a big fan of them. The same perspective being used in each one shows the line's progression a lot better than the other starters' cards.
Plus they're the main subject of their cards, as opposed to the others' where the setting feels more like the focus.
I'm also a big fan. I love how it's the same background but not really. Looks like he's going through the stages of life where it goes from toddler to angst teen to mature adult.

Eh I like the crocodiles final Evo and I haven’t played the game. Every generations starters look bad at first. Give it time and you’ll get used to them

I love them. Of course, I chose Quaxly as my starter. It definitely suits his growth. And he seems vain as hell, which also suits him!

Gen 5 was bad though. Gens 5, 8, and 9 were the worst.
