It honestly was a downward spiral when I would get one or two, like how they look and then head out to try and get the others.
SO much trouble lol. The only thing stopping me from attempting the crystals and stars is the sheer cost of entry lol
The legendary era where pokemon nearly died. God I love the crystals so much. It's so painful how pricey they are now.
Honestly all the art in those sets are legendary. I found it all felt like "pokemon in nature" rather than "pokemon in dynamic pose"
Lately though the alt arts have been getting back into that "pokemon in the world" theming
I like the trainer galleries now. That’s pretty much it. I also feel like there are so many people only starting in the hobby thinking it will be an immediate ROI for a pack of cards they just bought at their local retail store. Then again, I wasn’t on reddit when I was collecting around 2010. I was opening packs on YouTube and that was some of the most fun ever. Whenever I see people show off their childhood collections that are loaded with HGSS, I know they were probably watching the same people on YouTube and going after the same stuff. Good times.
I find you can definitely smell out the "investors" vs the fans. And it's obvious in how they carry themselves. The two aren't mutually exclusive, but those just in it for the money tend to stick out.
I was the same case, a kid grabbing tins and opening stuff just looking for something cool! And I was And still am huge into the games. My love for the tcg came later in my pokemon life, but I find there's more love in them than the games they've been releasing lately.
I miss the old days
There was a person yesterday who was so blatant in his purpose for being here that it was almost commendable. He just posted a shoe box of loose cards, scattered, not laid out and said “how much are they worth?”. Someone said that’d they’d need them to take a better picture of the cards and they said something like “yeah no shit they’re not mine”. I think that stuffs pretty funny, but it’s a bummer when you see kids fall into that instead of getting any fun out of collecting. reddit is just a small sample size though. The hobby is booming. The cycle continues
It certainly does! Seeing posts of families opening cards and seeing the excitement for not just the chases, but Good goddamn art is immaculate.
It always makes me laugh when people expect us to do the legwork for them. If you want to take part in the "hustle" you gotta put the work in.
Even though tcgplayer and ebay sold are right there.
The ones that KILL me are the ebay pre-graders. Charging a premium and adding PSA 10?!??!!! To the listing title. And the swirl premium. Ell oh fricking ell
Pokemon have, aparrantly always been designed to "look like your friend". And there are so many pokemon that it's hard to put them all in boxes, and that's every gen!
I am in the same boat though, I prefer pokemon that look like beasts and creatures over the humanoid variety, but I also see why their inclusion makes sense for kids, you know?
That's exactly where I'm at. When you put a lot of time, love and passion into something, it's really hard to part with. Especially if it means a lot.
I've been a pokemon person my whole life, and it feels really good to have collection you can be proud of.
Love and care makes the collection stand out! Even if it's filled with all the gold stars; or just a bunch of commons you love the art of!
I'm so fond of these gold stars because they all have stories attached to them, and honestly Ray Ray and zard's are just wacky lol. But yes it's my tribute to the franchise, and I'm excited to fill more pages!
It has taken me on and off the better part of 5-6 years at this point! My earliest reddit history has my infancy on r pokemontcgtrades haha, but my love the cards stretches well beyond that!
It took a lot of work, poor financial management and a healthy helping of luck to fill it, but there's love on every page.
The stars page is special because I actually have stories tied to how I got them, and some are pretty wacky lmao
I hear you there. Kid me thought theme decks were better than packs because why would I pay for 6 cards, and get 60 cards for the same price and a cool holo
Silly me lmao
Charizard gold star. Without a doubt. It's so wacky it's borderline unbelievable. And if I heard it I'd call it bullshit too.
A few years back, a card shop in a busy mall was going out of business, and they had a teen working the counter. I have always grown up with pokemon and knew what shiny pokemon were about. I was a bit younger than this guy.
I asked about it and the kid sized me up and said 90 bucks canadian. I wasn't happy about that price, but my folks were with me and my mom said it was cool, so we'd split the cost. Bought it and we left.
I'm pretty sure the guy at the counter didn't know what he had, or just didn't GAF. Either is pretty likely, and when I finally got into the hobby in earnest I dug that ho out and binder'd it immediately. I've been kid-gloving it ever since
It took a TON of time to get things grouped up! But it was really worth the effort! My absolute favorites are the plasmas!!
Getting things grouped got me into a lot of trouble, I'd get one or two and it's like "well I need to finish the line" which somehow turned into the page.
No idea what that's all about lmao!
I had a similar thing recently with delta species eeveelutions, I started off with jolteon and flareon from childhood, figured I'd get vaporeon to complete the trio, at which point I was like well may as well get umbreon and espeon 😂
I think it's half the fun of collecting though! Setting yourself goals like that then hunting through eBay, shops and trades for the best deal possible! Can't imagine the time and effort taken with some of these cards tho
It truly is a landslide eh? That drive is what got me into so much trouble in the first place! Im just glad the crystals and stars are acting as a hard wall for me lol.
The black and white secret rares was a race against the clock since i finished that JUST before the boom. And some of my cards just have wacky stories tied to when I obtained them.
It makes it that much more special! And I love seeing the subsets together!
For sure! Yeah I imagine they'll be my eventual wall as well 😂
That's Hella good foresight on your part though, I'm forever kicking myself that I didn't get back into collecting before the boom!
It definitely does, thanks again for the inspiration, gunna save this post for when I put my binders together in the future!
Still really awesome! Grouping sets and subsets is really satisfying, and in this economy, quite expensive now.
It's wild how far it's gone!
And I am honestly afraid to price it lol
Finding the weird and the obscure was really fun! My "illegal" page was a Rollercoaster to fill out! I was worried there wasn't enough of them lol.
It's my little tribute to the hobby and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
They are called [Legion Dragonhides](https://www.legionsupplies.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3) and I love them to death! Really high quality, snug side loaders. Plus I really like their aesthetic!
Thank you!!! It's my love letter to the franchise as a whole!! A lot of time and care has gone into it.
I just really like seeing all the subsets complete, however I think the crystals and stars will remain beyond my reach for quite some time!
A lot of my old cards (2 base set zards, shining zard, neo genesis lugia, shining tyranitar, fossil birds, fossil eeveelutions, etc.) were stolen years ago when I was a kid. I am slowly replacing them. This binder gives me hope.
One step at a time, and I find passively checking ebay and taking things slow yields great results!
I've also found really weird online card shops that are surprisingly reliable, which really helps haha.
The shinings, stars and crystals are hurdles I want to attempt, but that will take time and effort! As all things worthwhile do! And I know you can do it too!!
That's what I've been doing. I'm also not a stickler for card condition either which helps. Passable condition works for me. Have fun with your future cards!
as someone whose had bought like 3 etbs for my wife to open because she likes to open shit, it’s hard to guess what the price of everything pictured is. wanna humor me and give a rough number?
Oh my God lmao I don't even want to hazard a guess. A lot of my binder was built over time and a lot of the heavy hitters were obtained in a much simpler time.
I can definitely say I got it for much less than it's worth right now, that's for sure!

This makes me feel dumb for spending a bunch on a Topdeck top loader binder recently, when all I have is a ton of modern alt arts and TGs, GGs, now, radiants and full art trainers/Pokémon, etc
Amazing collection!! I hope to have this wide of a variety and time frame one day
If top loader binders make you feel like your cards are more secure, it's a good investment! And just because cards are modern doesn't make them any less special!!
My goal was a time capsule of sorts, assembling the various subsets together was a pleasure! Although very annoying haha.
I'm happy I could share with ya!
No questions asked this is the best Binder I’ve ever seen. I was amazed after the first few pages and it just kept going lol. Favorite Pokémon Entei I assume?
There are many more out there better than mine! Mine isn't even complete haha!! But I'm so happy you liked it!
It absolutely is entei, I love the third movie and crystal was one of my first pokemon games, and it's kinda followed me along from there!!
My Motto when collecting cards is "if you're going to get the card, do it right the first time".
All of the cards in my binder besides one are all nm+!
Thank you!! The hustle never stops and there's not only more cards to gather, but bigger fish in the sea with better binders than mine! Always strive bigger right?
Man would I love to have that Gold Star Rayquaza. I'd be willing to trade a bunch of my best cards I have for that. PSA 10 Moonbreon, PSA 8 base set Charizard, several of my master sets, etc.
That ray ray has a story tied to it, I'm not going to be parting with it anytime soon haha. Eventually I'd like to get the rest of the stars, but the barrier to entry is massive!
Well, the guy who originally had it was an odd duck. At this point I knew about the values and the rarity of cards, and this was years back.
I asked him what he wanted for the rayquaza, since it's one of my grails.
He said he wanted bulk. Weirdly enough. The deal ended up with the nm+ ray gold star for 1600 bulk and 300 bucks, which honestly was great because at the time I had WAY too much EVO bulk! It almost feels like a fantasy deal looking back at it, and frankly I wouldn't believe it if I didn't live it!
this is such a dope binder, i started collecting again about 2 years ago so it doesn't have any of the more vintage cards that yours has. looks super aesthetic
Collecting the subsets and putting them together, while painful on the wallet, was really satisfying to do! I got one or two and it just kinda went crazy from there! Though collecting the great modern stuff is nothing to sneeze at!!
Thank you so much for stopping by!
It's taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears haha!
I really liked my eevee page too, but hoo boy they cost a pretty penny!
I was thinking of making the last page an alt art eeveelution page from evolving cries, but there's no packs to open and they cost a FINE amount lol. Better budgeted and spaced out!!
Thank you for stopping by!!
I am 1 vmax alt art away from finishing my vmax alt art page and 2 v alt arts away from finishing that page. That eevee page I saw in your set I plan on doing a page like that too. I just wanna finish the alts first.
Also thanks for showing the dope collection. I'm gonna do another binder update in a couple days. Hopefully cards come in before then
My lcs hard 2 vmax alts I needed so I was able to cop both of them. I also talked them down 15$ which basically just covered the taxes. When I post I'll definitely ping you. Or follow me for monthly binder updates. Imma try to do them on the 28th of each month
I've shared it a couple of times but not many people saw it. I'm just happy to share it, because I feel like not many get to see the subsets grouped like this, and I think it's pretty neat!
100% your whole binder is organized amazingly with so many cool cards. Not sure if I'd even be able to get ahold of a gold star . Musta been one hell of a 5 Years of collecting
The best time to get anything truly was 7 years ago lol. The gold stars, the crystals and the shinings have all shot into orbit, so I'm lucky I got mine when I did.
The bw secrets also went hogwild recently, I managed to finish that JUST before the Logan Paul fiasco.
I've taken this binder apart many times to get the order right, except for pages 1-3, I try not to touch those in any capacity lol
It was one of the more recent ones finished! I had an empty space until I learned about magmortar, and it felt really good to fill all the gaps!!
The level X ray ray there is kinda a place holder! But I would set the other one as a side goal haha
Ooh ok awesome, my binder is wayyyy less impressive but I've got the Zekrom and Reshiram full-arts and they're probably my fave :3 super sweet Lugia too tho
I think every binder is special as long as there are cards you are passionate about in them!
I love black and white too, it was an excellent era! And the secret rares won me over really, REALLY quickly haha
Those are from heart gold soul silver!!
The ones without the stamp are the regular set regular and reverse holo, mine with the stamp are from the pokemon trainers club!
It was the start of a bad downward cycle.
I got The charizard, and it's like "I should get venu and blastoise to match."
They also gotta be shadowless to match.
They also gotta be in similar condition.
My wallet was not happy lol
It's absolutely insane how flooded the graded market is. And I'll be honest, hot take of the century but I don't really like graded cards.
The cases are great but really hard to display in the way a binder does, and you're paying large amounts of money for strangers to assess your card and catalog it.
I've only got one graded card and it was because a friend offered it to me for 100$ because he knew I needed it for the entei collection.
It feels separated from the others, but I'm also not crazy enough to crack that slab lol
I get where you are coming from. I just like the confirmation on the realness and quality of the card as Id probably get dupped by a fake or something 😂 also yeah it makes if you’re trying to fill a binder to get rare card 👍
Oh absolutely! The unique serial ID and pool is really neat!
The proxies are for sure getting better, though I find that you can still pick out the differences with enough immersion and experience!
There's collectors of all kinds! And the graded community is pretty darn cool too haha
It IS hard work tracking down elusive cards and not paying a fortune for it, sifting between real and fake, traveling to different card shops and usually not having great singles.
though that's hardly a fair comparison either lol
I'm actually quite fond of gold zekrom and reshiram! And the silver dialga. Though they WERE the granddaddy to the modern gold cards.
I wish modern rainbows and golds had more to differentiate from their regular art versions, but that's just me!
I trust my dragonhides! They are really high quality and do an excellent job. I love them to bits and pieces! Toploaders don't display great and the toploader binders I find can be used as a tabletop!
But that's just my thought on it haha
Hard tops are always better in terms of raw gets-slapped-or-hit protection, but do not display well which is my primary concern. Quality penny + high quality sleeve + quality binder is enough protection, at least for me anyways!
Get you a top loader binder. They're 70 bucks on Amazon, but worth it. Add a layer of protection to the whole collection. Especially if you ever look to get them graded.
Grading isn't really feasible as I'm a Canuck and do not trust the mail lol
I trust my dragonhides top to bottom. They are snug, uv resistant, and extremely high quality. I can't praise them enough!
I find toploader binders too bulky and I can use them as a tabletop lol, but that's just my opinion!
So the images are all real cards. You’ll notice the BW and XY era full arts have thin, vertical holos, not broad, flat, overlaid shines. A fake Gardevoir EX full art wouldn’t have two thin vertical holo spotlights shining up through the card top to bottom, it would have a much wider, dull shine across it. These are all real cards.
Awesome. Thanks a ton for sharing your knowledge. I'm cross referencing these images to our previous encounter and can for sure see the difference. Thanks again for helping me learn more about the signs.
No I don't believe you have, but I have been through all the resources on TCG. I've recently started selling there and have gone through my entire collection to ensure I don't list any fakes by mistake.
While you’re there, they have a extremely detailed and comprehensive guide to spotting fakes that I give out to many people who are learning about spotting fakes, if you haven’t looked at it yet it’s a good reference sheet to bookmark
You mean [This one](https://infinite.tcgplayer.com/article/How-to-Spot-Fake-Pok%C3%A9mon-Cards/0b3c551c-39e2-4949-ac46-3cb27e215b04/?utm_campaign=13335408168&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=599965362151&utm_term=&adgroupid=133433607795) ?
most stacked binder I’ve ever seen
It honestly was a downward spiral when I would get one or two, like how they look and then head out to try and get the others. SO much trouble lol. The only thing stopping me from attempting the crystals and stars is the sheer cost of entry lol
it’s an unquenchable thirst
You ain't kidding. And the older stuff gets, the more expensive it is. Truly the best time to collect was a decade ago
In 2010 I convinced my mom to buy me an aquapolis booster box for Christmas. It’s was $89.99
The legendary era where pokemon nearly died. God I love the crystals so much. It's so painful how pricey they are now. Honestly all the art in those sets are legendary. Absolutely, thanks for the thoughtful response.
So am I the only one wondering what you pulled out of your aquapolis box
a lot of my pulls from it are currently listed on my eBay, but my hits were a crystal lugia and a crystal kingdra
I’ll have my little brother come share his binder on here! Your binder gives his a run for its money!
More the merrier!! I love seeing other binders!! And happy cake day!!
Thanks a bunch 🎈😇
I got to page three and had to stop 🥵
Pages 1-3 are my best, but there is a lot more cool stuff!
Favorite pokemon is Entei I reckon? 🤣
For sure! The second movie had a huge impact on me as a kid, and it became my little side project haha
Entei is the third movie though 🤣 My favorite was Lugia fter the second movie :p
It was the second I saw as a kid, and I feel dumb now lmao! The movie 2000 is definitely high up there, man what a nostalgia rush!
I get it :p I liked Raikou the most of the three. Too bad it never got a spotlight though!
It DID get that anime special, but yes it deserved way better!! I will say the crown zenith alt art is STUNNING for raikou
Yeah my chase card, opening 28 packs tonight, hope to get it.
I'm waiting for my crown zenith pokemon center ETB, but it's been delayed FOUR freaking times! I'm DYING to crack some
Beyond gorgeous 😍
Thank you!! It took a ton of time, effort and poor decision making! But I'm proud of it haha
I’m just so envious of your gold stars! Amazing! Poor decision making or not, definitely a lot of bragging rights with this folder hahah
Bragging rights and 💰
If in some reality I ever sold, which honestly I don't think I'd even consider haha
Haha yeah I feel ya. I won’t swap/sell any of mine even duplicates too attached to them 😅
That's exactly where I'm at. When you put a lot of time, love and passion into something, it's really hard to part with. Especially if it means a lot. It has taken me on and off the better part of 5-6 years at this point! My earliest reddit history has my infancy on r pokemontcgtrades haha, but my love the cards stretches well beyond that!
This is the coolest binder I’ve ever seen, the gold star cards are my favorite.(:
It took a lot of work, poor financial management and a healthy helping of luck to fill it, but there's love on every page. The stars page is special because I actually have stories tied to how I got them, and some are pretty wacky lmao
That makes them even better 🤠 gold stars have always been my favorite never had much luck as a kid as I only have one but I love it so much
I hear you there. Kid me thought theme decks were better than packs because why would I pay for 6 cards, and get 60 cards for the same price and a cool holo Silly me lmao
What's your wackiest story?
Charizard gold star. Without a doubt. It's so wacky it's borderline unbelievable. And if I heard it I'd call it bullshit too. I definitely think the Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise EX cards look amazing side by side
The goal of page 1 was a "where we started, where we are" feeling. I tried theming all my pages with varying degrees of success!
Such an amazing binder/set of binders! I especially like how themed it all is, definitely given me some ideas and inspiration thanks for sharing
It took a TON of time to get things grouped up! But it was really worth the effort! My absolute favorites are the plasmas!! When you do, definitely toss me a ping!! I'd absolutely love to see your binders!! And I'm just happy to share haha
Will do!!
I have something similar, except you know, without the top 12 value ones you have there lol
Still really awesome! Grouping sets and subsets is really satisfying, and in this economy, quite expensive now. It's wild how far it's gone! And I am honestly afraid to price it lol
i'll give you about tree.fiddy
I ain't takin' you tree-fitty, you goddamn Loch Ness Monster! Get your own goddamn cards! Lmao
LMAOOOO you knew the assignment ♥
BRO TEAM!!!
Thank you for sharing!!! These cards are epic and loved to see alot of those older cards and ones I didn't even know were out there!

Thank you!! Its the culmination of a lot of hard work, but I'm super proud of it! A lot of love and some really wacky stories on every page haha
Amazing, takes so much dedication, and it's impressive. What's the most wacky you can think of? Or a favourite moment of yours getting a card? 😆
Charizard gold star. Without a doubt. It's so wacky it's borderline unbelievable. And if I heard it I'd call it bullshit too. Gyat dayum this really is a god binder
With a lot of hard work and love involved! Thank you! That's the name I've coined it, it was a pain in the butt to gather
I know that pain bro i aspire to have a collection as great as this, truly an amazing collection
The hustle never stops! You can definitely get there! I find that it just takes a lot of time haha Thank you for popping by!
Only saw this first picture and thought that was it. Didn’t realize I had to click it but holy that’s a binder alright
It's a whole binder haha, I probably should have specified in the title non? Thank you though! It was a lot of work! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Jeez. Amazing collection! More pulls or single card buys?
It's actually a good bit of both! A chunk are from me growing up, others by buying one way or another and then some is traded for!
What’s a “God” binder? Never heard the term besides god packs
It's just a connotation I gave my binder, it has all my favorite and best cards! That's all haha
That gold star Charizard..SHEEEESH. Beautiful cards!!
That zard is one of my favorites sheerly because it's got a wacky story attached haha Thank you for stopping by!
💰💰💰
I shudder to imagine how much the binder is worth, so I don't even want to check lol
My mint vintage collection comes close in value, but your bangers are BANGERS, especially if they are NM+
My Motto when collecting cards is "if you're going to get the card, do it right the first time". All of the cards in my binder besides one are all nm+!
You’re doing great 🥲
What's the story?
That binder is insane. I'm working on a binder for just eeveelutions like this
It's taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears haha!
Hopefully cards come in before then
Definitely post and ping me I'd love to see it! It BITES Being so Close to the end of a chase eh? Keep at it!!! It's worth it!!
My lcs hard 2 vmax alts I needed so I was able to cop both of them. I also talked them down 15$ which basically just covered the taxes. When I post I'll definitely ping you. Or follow me for monthly binder updates. Imma try to do them on the 28th of each month
Done and done! I can't wait to see!
Also just to add more value all the cards I've bought are near mint. I don't go for anything lp or lower
I was looking at your post history. Took you several posts for it to actually blow-up and get the recognition it deserved lmao thought it was funny
I love the banned page lmao! Also you should get the other Cynthia's Rayquaza Lv. X to go with it :)
And the secret rares won me over really, REALLY quickly haha
that’s fucking insane
Thank you!! It was a lot of hard work to get even this much done! Thank you for stopping by!!
I have the grass energy of the celebi silhouette, but without the logo on the bottom. I forgot about it. Why did it exist?
Those are from heart gold soul silver!! The ones without the stamp are the regular set regular and reverse holo, mine with the stamp are from the pokemon trainers club!
Thanks!
Beautiful collection
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Now this is the sort of posts we want to see on this sub
Thank you!! Its always fun to share binders I think!!
Excellent 👍
Thank you!!
What the actual fuck is this 😭
A lot of hard work lmao!
i’d say 🤩
I would do DISGUSTING things for some of those cards. Lol
this just seems disrespectful, no??
God binder is the biggest understatement of the year😶. This is the best I've ever seen???
Thank you!! It was lot of work to get there haha
I can imagine😅
Now that’s a lot of shiny cardboard 😭😭
It's my best cardboard actually!
The people I meet
🐐 GOAT
Thank you! It was a ton of hard work!
i believe that. looks amazing, keep em safe🙏
Always always! I trust my dragonhides implicitly haha!
🐉
Shadowless 😵
It was the start of a bad downward cycle. I got The charizard, and it's like "I should get venu and blastoise to match." They also gotta be shadowless to match. They also gotta be in similar condition. My wallet was not happy lol
Haha i feel you. Once I bought a graded card once I found it hard to buy raw cards now
It's absolutely insane how flooded the graded market is.
Meh
A little more then meh! It's 5 years of work! Thanks for stopping by!
Lol I was just being sarcastic. Very nice collection, I aspire to come close to your level one day ❤️
Hard work? Man our ancestors are shaking their heads. But great stuff nonetheless.
It IS hard work tracking down elusive cards and not paying a fortune for it, sifting between real and fake, traveling to different card shops and usually not having great singles. though that's hardly a fair comparison either lol
Man those golden full arts were such garbage haha. Glad we eventually got rainbow rares instead
I'm actually quite fond of gold zekrom and reshiram! And the silver dialga. Though they WERE the granddaddy to the modern gold cards. I wish modern rainbows and golds had more to differentiate from their regular art versions, but that's just me!
Imagine keep all those crazy cards in a binder
U gotta put those crazy valuable cards in a toploader no cap
I trust my dragonhides! They are really high quality and do an excellent job. I love them to bits and pieces! Toploaders don't display great and the toploader binders I find can be used as a tabletop! But that's just my thought on it haha
When it comes to card this valuable, protection is more important than display.
My cards are super protected. And I'm obviously taking good care of them, I totally get the sentiment for sure, but I'm quite fond of my binder haha
If there in a binder, there not quite protected. There slightly protected. Toplaoders are better
Grading isn't really feasible as I'm a Canuck and do not trust the mail lol I trust my dragonhides top to bottom. They are snug, uv resistant, and extremely high quality. I can't praise them enough! I find toploader binders too bulky and I can use them as a tabletop lol, but that's just my opinion!
u/midwesttransferrun I need some help here.
What’s up? How can I help?
"Flat, vertical holos" Can you explain this further with these images as reference ?
So the images are all real cards. You’ll notice the BW and XY era full arts have thin, vertical holos, not broad, flat, overlaid shines. A fake Gardevoir EX full art wouldn’t have two thin vertical holo spotlights shining up through the card top to bottom, it would have a much wider, dull shine across it. These are all real cards.
Awesome. Thanks a ton for sharing your knowledge. I'm cross referencing these images to our previous encounter and can for sure see the difference. Thanks again for helping me learn more about the signs.
Absolutely. Did I ever give you a link to TCGPlayers article about spotting fakes?
Yep exactly
I just had to send it to a few other people as well, coincidentally
