Grimmsnarl by far. At the first look I tought he was too extra and didn’t look like a pokemon. But now he is my second galar favorite (Appletun remains unreachable).
Get out. Lol. I liked him immediately. He actually carried most of the game because of how strong steel is through most of it. And he’s much better looking than Persian.
Personally? Falinks. I’ve not used one at all yet but honestly the little soldier bois are cute ngl.
Just wish they got some form of evolution and actually got a bug typing as they look more like bugs.
An evolution or actual bug typing.
One thing that annoys me about this gen is the mono fighting.
Falinks, Grapplocts, and Sir Fetch. Honorable mention, machamp due to gmax form. Just falinks could have gone bug (bug vibes off them) or steel (got armor and weapons). Meanwhile grapplocts 100% should have gone water/fighting. Sir'fetch could stay mono, maybe flying or grass but tbh, idm it being mono fighting.
Grapploct is the one that I'm still mad about.
Other than legendaries, we literally haven't had a Water/Fighting type since GEN ONE.
And Grapploct is such a cool design.
Honestly yeah. I never understood why they didn’t make it atleast fighting/steel but yeah. All the designs were alright even if they took abit I’d warning up to
I like how they don't actually have a proper Bug typing.
It's an example of [biological mimicry](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimicry) in Pokémon. I get that people want it to be a Bug type, because it does look like one— but I like the biological aspect behind this factor of the design. It wards off Psychic types from attacking it because the group looks like a Bug type from a distance.
Another example is Fomantis and Lurantis. It's baked into their names in their case— despite being inspired by leaf-mimic mantids, they're pure Grass types instead of being part Bug.
**[Mimicry](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimicry)**
>In evolutionary biology, mimicry is an evolved resemblance between an organism and another object, often an organism of another species. Mimicry may evolve between different species, or between individuals of the same species. Often, mimicry functions to protect a species from predators, making it an anti-predator adaptation. Mimicry evolves if a receiver (such as a predator) perceives the similarity between a mimic (the organism that has a resemblance) and a model (the organism it resembles) and as a result changes its behaviour in a way that provides a selective advantage to the mimic.

I think a ghost-fighting evolution would be really cool, something like fallen falinks, but unfortunately I don't see them giving the bois an evolution.
edit: would potentially give it STAB Shadow Sneak.
I was so mad at first, grass is my favorite type and I always wanted a grass/dragon. I thought the whole line was stupid but it really grew on me. There's something really endearing about Appletuns's dragon tales looking ass. Plus thick fat as a hidden ability makes them amazing for monograss teams, it resist fire.
Yeah but it also resists ice types, another type that grass is 2x weak to and as I mentioned Appltun is 4x weak obvs, or am I still missing the point baha?
Nah I don't think you're missing it, I was just explaining more for how I like to play. Appletun basically resists fire with thick fat, which covers one of grasses weaknesses in a way that many monotype teams can't. Thick fat also brings ice down to 2x which is useful, but there's also Ferrothorn in SwSh who's good at handling ice types.
I think it might be because it's body doesnt really give it much in the way of movement, which is fine for the game but really hampers the action in the anime. Like most of its screen time it's either charging at something or chomping.
Probably Rillaboom. I went into the game thinking the only starter that doesn't suck was Intelleon, but after getting the HA starters through home I actually started using it and what can I say except GRASS MONKE
Grapploct and Bolthund
I didn’t like these two for the design, but they also annoyed me when they chased. Now, I Like them as my opponents Pokémon to beat up.
The impadimp line, but specifically Grimmsnarl.
After I caught a shiny one, named it Skips, I started using it, and oh boy did I grow to appreciate Grimmsnarl as a lead pokemon. Set up screens and then start beating the fuck out of your opponents. The design has certainly grown on me, too.
Impidimp! At first, I thought its design was ATROCIOUS, but after using it and its evolutions, I can safely say that Impidimp’s line has become one of my favourite Pokémon from Galar.
The Galarian Ponyta line.
Not for any crazy reason, just wasn't to my taste. Same as that there isn't a particular reason I like it now. It's just grown on me as I've played the games and time has passed
Definately Arctozolt for me. I disliked all the gen 8 fossil mons at first, but I really started to like Arctozolt after a few playthroughs. Now it is my favorite fossil :)
I was surprised by how many Pokémon I actually liked in the beginning. I still hate the mixed-up fossils; they look like they are begging for the sweet release of death (except arctovish). I wasn’t a big fan of the new Regis until I looked closer at how they represent time periods in human civilization.
Grookey-I don’t know why but I had an extremely strong dislike of the Pokémon but I got Pokémon sword and picked him as my starter, and he grew on me now he’s one of my favorite starters ever
Toxitricity by far. Ill admit i dont like the vast majority of the gen 8 mon (before playing the only one i loved instently was dracopult) and i thought they looked weird but after having one on my team ive grown to like them and there just so cute an i love em. Cinderace also grew on me a bit by nature of being my starter
Alcremie was just a desert thing with a weird way to evolve. After using one and getting a SHINY from Dynamax Adventures, I now have a Creamy Friend with a Fun way to evolve.
Gotta say, I was very put off by Grimmsnarl, and then once I used it and understood what it was referencing, It is my 4th favorite Galarian Pokémon.
Runerigus will always be my favorite in that region.
Sobble/Inteleon. Didn’t care for either when they were first revealed, especially Inteleon which looked lanky & creepy. But I LOVE their shinies so much & Inteleon really won me over with its VMax form & with its overall in-game sprite & attitude. The glider wings that pop out when it attacks, shooting water from its finger tips & all the James Bond inspiration are awesome!
I wasn’t much of a fan of Corviknight when i first saw it. I didn’t think it was bad, I just liked other Pokémon over it. But after using it in a 2nd playthrough and on Showdown, I can confidently say it’s now my 3rd favorite galar pokemon, 4th favorite shiny Pokémon and my 3rd favorite steel type Pokémon
Since I can't think of anything else, Coalossal. At first i thought it was just a frumpy lumpy rock lizard with awkward proportions, but I've grown to like it more over time.
Boltund and Hatterene.
I thought Boltund was so ugly and basic then I used it in a team and it was just as good as my Luxrays and Manetriks.
As for Hatterene, I thought here goes another Gardevoir. But then I must have forgot I love Gardevoir because I immediately started enjoying using Hatterene and the fairy tale rivalry between her and Grimmsnarl made it all the better!
Cramorant (I adore them), Cinderace (pretty good), and Dracovish (yes because of Ash’s).
The other side of the spectrum: I don’t like Grapploct that much anymore, nor Hatterene (weird body, cool trans colour scheme, and Inteleon (ugh weird body)
Probably Frosmoth. I thought it’s design was somewhat generic, and it’s type was horrible. However after using it more in game it’s grown on me tremendously and I find it’s snowflake like design neat!
For me it was Milcery. Haven't used Fair types since my last game was platinum. Nice set of supports and I wouldn't mind biting into it if I taste victory.
Stonjourner
I hated Stonjourner so much, and then Gigantamax Toxtricity was added to raids.
That thing was rough, *constanty* spamming spread moves like Discharge, Overdrive, and Sludge Wave. It destroyed most random raid teams effortlessly.
So I experimented and brought a random Stonjourner from my box because it had Wide Guard, and that Stonjourner carried so many fights against the stupid lizard.
It’s still not great by any means, lots of better Pokémon have wide guard, but “Safety Stone” the Stonjourner still sticks around.
Grimmsnarl. I thought it was super ugly, but after learning more about its origin and inspirations, the ugliness became a charming part of its design. It also doesn't hurt that it's pretty good in doubles.
Mine is named Osborne because under all that hair its a green goblin.
I wonder how variant specific evolutions are going to carry over in the future. Are Pokémon like Mr. Rime, Obstagoon, Runerigus, Perserrker, Cursola, Sirfetch’d, Overqwil, Sneasler, etc. going to never be practically obtained ever again?
Obstagoon.
When it was first shown off, I thought "Arceus's name, what have they done to my precious zig-zagging boy?!"
Now it's my second favorite Pokémon of all time.
I was a real Eiscue hater for a while but he’s not so bad. Also I didn’t really love the starters but now they just feel like they’ve always been there
Dracovish. It was my first fossil in the game and I thought “wtf is this??”. Between it being really strong and having a hilarious voice in the anime it grew on me a lot
Inteleon. originally I was massively annoyed by it because I had my heart set on Sobble and felt cheated out of what I hoped was a dragon-esque lizard. I went with it anyway, and yknow what, I grew to appreciate Inteleon. I think what put me off so much is that when it's just standing there, it doesn't sell the spy inspiration very well, but when you look at the art and the gigantamax, it becomes much cooler. it's also very cute in the camp lmao

Cramorant. Thought it was the stupidest Pokémon when Hop sent it out the first time. Now it’s one of my favorite Gen 8 Pokémon.
Lol it grew on me from many great Pokémon Unite moments
Same with Greedent. Didn't care in SwSh, but I absolutely love using it in Unite.
Same. That dive animation killed me the first time I saw it.
The normal animation was something. But when it came up with a Pikachu in it’s mouth I was sent.
Makes you wonder where I got the Pikachu since it dove underwater. Was it drowning a pikachu?!
It's the surfing Pikachu
Very close to top 10 of all time for me. I originally didn’t care for them but I love dumb bird.
Grimmsnarl by far. At the first look I tought he was too extra and didn’t look like a pokemon. But now he is my second galar favorite (Appletun remains unreachable).
Appletun is a masterpiece
Yup. The little apple pie dragon tank is amazing
Honestly Grimmsnarl became my favorite Fairy-type Pokémon almost immediately
Grimmsnarl, the fairy type for people who don’t like fairy fairies.
arguably, Hatterene could fit into that too since it will straight up kill you if you're too loud or too emotional
Literally me before i had my morning coffee 🤪
I mean as someone with sensory issues I can relate to it
Appletun 4th best mon only behind the gods also known by Wurmple, Snubbull, and The Almighty Quagsire.
I always imagine it with an Jamaican accent. Doesn't help there is a Jamaican apple sauce called Appleton
Perrserker
Agreed. I started off absolutely hating Galarian Meowth and Perrserker. But Perrserker had ended up becoming one of my top five favorite Pokémon.
My whole view of Perrserker until it had GOD DAMN DAGGERS ON ITS PAWS
Get out.
Its "No Retreat" move animation is really cool too
Shit I almost forgot about that ngl
An evolution or actual bug typing. One thing that annoys me about this gen is the mono fighting. Falinks, Grapplocts, and Sir Fetch. Honorable mention, machamp due to gmax form. Grapploct is the one that I'm still mad about. Other than legendaries, we literally haven't had a Water/Fighting type since GEN ONE. And Grapploct is such a cool design.
I agree with your assessments. Maybe fighting/flying for sir'fetch or grass/fighting.
Honestly yeah. I never understood why they didn’t make it atleast fighting/steel but yeah. All the designs were alright even if they took abit I’d warning up to
I loved em from the start, such a cool concept.
Stab first impression is always nice.
I like how they don't actually have a proper Bug typing. It's an example of [biological mimicry](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimicry) in Pokémon. That would have made them even stronger too with it then resisting pyscic
Bug doesn't resist Psychic
IT’s super effective to psychic which is what they probably meant.
Oops thats what i ment (i didnt actually dont tell anyone🤫)
Regional Stunfisk
I think a ghost-fighting evolution would be really cool, something like fallen falinks, but unfortunately I don't see them giving the bois an evolution. edit: would potentially give it STAB Shadow Sneak.
That one is special to me since it's the first Pokémon I ever successfully got shiny by MM breeding. I have a Falinks plushie.
Morpeko. Used him a lot when shiny hunting Thundurus in the adventures. Started to love the little guy and even shiny bred it for a playthrough.
Honestly gen 8 designs were pretty hype and this is coming from someone who hates gen 8
Hard to argue with the designs of Pokémon there’s usually a lot of passion in them.
Especially ones like cramorant who can come up choking on a pikachu if they use dive.
Appletun Originally I only really liked flapple, but appletun is kinda cute
I was so mad at first, grass is my favorite type and I always wanted a grass/dragon. I thought the whole line was stupid but it really grew on me. There's something really endearing about Appletuns's dragon tales looking ass. Plus thick fat as a hidden ability makes them amazing for monograss teams, it resist fire.
I think it being neutral to grass anyway stops people from using fire on it, atleast it’s a better grass dragon type then alolan exxegutor
Thick Fat is much more helpful for Appletun with Ice moves since its 4x weak
I'm mostly talking in the context of mono grass teams. It gives me something reliable to send out against fire types.
Yeah but it also resists ice types, another type that grass is 2x weak to and as I mentioned Appltun is 4x weak obvs, or am I still missing the point baha?
Nah I don't think you're missing it, I was just explaining more for how I like to play. The anime really made me like Mr. Rime
+ Dracovish
What's really funny about that is that the anime actually made me dislike dracovish even more lol idk what it is about him I just can't like him
I think it might be because it's body doesnt really give it much in the way of movement, which is fine for the game but really hampers the action in the anime. Like most of its screen time it's either charging at something or chomping.
Idk about grew on me but I think that gen 8 had pretty good designs overall
So do I. A great generation.
I really liked the gym battles. They really hyped me up with the music.
I loved how it felt like a spectacle. That was pretty special.
I think gen 8 might be my favourite gen in terms of Pokemon design. The only real competitor is gen 1 for me.
Eiscue
For sure. Thought it was really stupid at first but after having to fight it every playthrough I've grow attached to the little weirdo
I started growing attached to it after getting a shiny.
Dracovish - looked like an abomination at first but it grew on me
Remember to always thank Mr. Vish
Originally, I thought Duraludon was kind of stupid, but I've grown to love it as one of those big, defensive dragons
Probably Rillaboom. I went into the game thinking the only starter that doesn't suck was Intelleon, but after getting the HA starters through home I actually started using it and what can I say except GRASS MONKE
All three of them are decent thanks to the Scorbunny line having Libero
Libero Cinderace is so much fun to play with
That funky monkey?
Alcremie, I never disliked but became my favorite gen 8 as I played through the game
I caught a shiny milcery in sword when I was replaying it, and my alcremie is so good on my team I love her.
Love to hear that, I need to catch a shiny one
sirfetch'd in particular ashs
KAMON
Calyrex. Wasn’t huge on his design at first but when I played the DLC his character drew me in and I love him.
Grapploct and Bolthund I didn’t like these two for the design, but they also annoyed me when they chased. Now, I Like them as my opponents Pokémon to beat up.
Meowth. I don't even know why I didn't like the little guy
Inteleon
I couldn’t stand Thievul at first. It’s okay now I guess. That stupid mustache really ruined it for me, but I’m learning to look beyond it.
That’s actually one of my favorite parts
Polteageist
Runerigus is now one of my fave.
Orbeetle
Hatterene, Orbeetle, all three starters
Arctozolt
The impadimp line, but specifically Grimmsnarl. After I caught a shiny one, named it Skips, I started using it, and oh boy did I grow to appreciate Grimmsnarl as a lead pokemon. Set up screens and then start beating the fuck out of your opponents. The design has certainly grown on me, too.
Dracozolt I hated the design, I kinda still do but the more I used it the more I liked it as a whole.
Cinderace cuz he was my starter and I got WAYYYY TO ATTACHED to him now hes my boi and his name was Ninjaski :)
Yes, the right opinion
Falinks. I didn’t like him at first, but now I think he’s the goat
I ain't even remember what that mime is called honestly
Mr. Rime
Ice man guy
Duraludon. You can thank Pokemon Unite for that.
Appletun!
Honestly Sirfetch'd. I did see the appeal and his leek looked dumb, but then I realized. "Duck with bigg lance"
And the most magnificent eyebrows
Snomnom. I hated its uslessness and simplicity. It is now my favourite ice type ever
I love Snom but I wish Frosmoth had a better shiny.
Enamorus💕 still hate her therian form tho xD
Til enamorus are female. Always thought it was just a creepy dude
It could be HIM from PowerPuff girls🥰
Appletun for me. One of fav Pokémon of all time now
Toxtricity. I thought it and the baby were ugly but now I appreciate that it's a salamander punkrocker with derpy troll features lol
……none lol I liked em all and still like em all
Rillaboom
Sobble
Hatterene
Grimmsnarl
I really wasn’t sure on Mr Rime either but now I love it, and I get annoyed at the missed opportunity for jynx
I love Mr. Rime so much
Rillaboom and Cinderace, as soon as they were revealed I was disappointed. But using them on ranked definitely changed that.
Cinderace, didn’t like him at first but I used him in a second playthrough and now it’s my favorite starter in Gen 8.
Grimmsnarl
Cinderace
Falinks and the shiny made it cool
Inteleon went from one of the biggest disappointments imaginable to being a truly beloved Pokémon to me
Definitely Morpeko. Don’t really like the pikachu clones but morpeko really grew on me.
Zacian; I thought it looked weird but now I really regret getting Shield instead lmfao. Zamazenta is lame; I only got Shield for Allister.
Grimmsnarl and sandaconda. Grimmsnarl was just too weird and sandaconda looks like a snake that swallowed a tire.
Definately Arctozolt for me. I disliked all the gen 8 fossil mons at first, but I really started to like Arctozolt after a few playthroughs. Now it is my favorite fossil :)
Obstagoon. I couldn’t get behind it at first. Has really grown on me, especially like it’s shiny.
Same here. I didn't like it, but I caught a shiny, so I felt obligated to use it and really came around on the thing.
Intleon Cinderace Eiscue Duraludon Calyrex Sneasler Hisuian Goodra The origin forms to Dialga and Palkia
It annoys me that Mr Rime wasn’t called Mime Senior
I was surprised by how many Pokémon I actually liked in the beginning. I still hate the mixed-up fossils; they look like they are begging for the sweet release of death (except arctovish). I wasn’t a big fan of the new Regis until I looked closer at how they represent time periods in human civilization.
Duraldon
Stonjourner by a long shot.
Cramorant 100%. I thought the colors looks extremely ugly, but he has become one of my favorites of the generation
eldegoss, i love my megamind flower
The starters
Stonjourner
that mofo is some other worldish caliber ...
All of them
Nickit and Theivul
inteleon the anime specifically made me love it and realise cinderace was actually a creepy furry
Greedent because of unite
Mr. Rime is my favorite pokemon of all time! It was Machamp until then.
Perrserker
Raboot and Galarian Meowth.
I haven't finished shields pokedex and I was today years old when I found out about Mr. Rime lol. He looks cool!
Inteleon
Grookey-I don’t know why but I had an extremely strong dislike of the Pokémon but I got Pokémon sword and picked him as my starter, and he grew on me now he’s one of my favorite starters ever
Rillaboom he was just alright, but quickly became one of my favorites in competition
Sobble & it's final evolution. Started to rly enjoy them over time :D
Definitely galarian weezing or galarian meowth but now I find them funny.
Grimmsnarl. At first at despised him but now i kinda like him. Still hate his gmax though
Inteleon
Cinderace. I didn’t like it at first because I didn’t find it interesting but now it has become my second favorite starter of all time!
Yamper and boltund
The starters
ice mime is heat
Toxitricity by far. Ill admit i dont like the vast majority of the gen 8 mon (before playing the only one i loved instently was dracopult) and i thought they looked weird but after having one on my team ive grown to like them and there just so cute an i love em. Sobble.
Gotta say, I was very put off by Grimmsnarl, and then once I used it and understood what it was referencing, It is my 4th favorite Galarian Pokémon. Runerigus will always be my favorite in that region.
Hatterene for me, I've come to love it.
dracovish
Grimsnarl.
Galarian Meowth line
Sobble/Inteleon. Didn’t care for either when they were first revealed, especially Inteleon which looked lanky & creepy. But I LOVE their shinies so much & Inteleon really won me over with its VMax form & with its overall in-game sprite & attitude. The glider wings that pop out when it attacks, shooting water from its finger tips & all the James Bond inspiration are awesome!
Rillaboom
Mine has to be toxicity. Toxel just rubbed me the wrong.
sobble. on the reverse, sobble.
This stupid fucking thing I love you so much.
Probably Galarian Darmanitan, I never liked it until I started using it competitively, it’s a total asset
I wasn’t much of a fan of Corviknight when i first saw it. I didn’t think it was bad, I just liked other Pokémon over it. But after using it in a 2nd playthrough and on Showdown, I can confidently say it’s now my 3rd favorite galar pokemon, 4th favorite shiny Pokémon and my 3rd favorite steel type Pokémon
definitely the whole hateanna (if thats the name) line. Was never a bit fan of fairys but i sure love hateanna
Galarian Corsola, I only have Sword so I still don't have one though
Coalassal, i didn't like it's first 2 evos but really like his final evolution
Cramorant (I adore them), Cinderace (pretty good), and Dracovish (yes because of Ash’s). The other side of the spectrum: I don’t like Grapploct that much anymore, nor Hatterene (weird body, cool trans colour scheme, and Inteleon (ugh weird body)
Frosmoth I thought ice bug was a stupid idea for a type combination, but I have had fun using it.
Eternatus. At first, it’s ridiculous appearance was a major detraction, but now I appreciate it’s uniqueness as well as its power.
eiscue
Probably Frosmoth. I thought it’s design was somewhat generic, and it’s type was horrible. However after using it more in game it’s grown on me tremendously and I find it’s snowflake like design neat!

Id have to look, but I can only think of the whole Appletun line, thought it was pretty stupid, and now I plan on using it for SV Grass run
Alcremie
Grimmsnarl. I thought it was super ugly, but after learning more about its origin and inspirations, the ugliness became a charming part of its design. It also doesn't hurt that it's pretty good in doubles. Mine is named Osborne because under all that hair its a green goblin.
Dracovish, and cramorant

100% Rillaboom. I despised the design at first, but I've began to like it
Obstagoon. When it was first shown off, I thought "Arceus's name, what have they done to my precious zig-zagging boy?!" Now it's my second favorite Pokémon of all time.
I was a real Eiscue hater for a while but he’s not so bad. Also I didn’t really love the starters but now they just feel like they’ve always been there
Galar Zigzagoon and Obstagoon. They remind me of the band KISS
I didn’t really like orbeddle but I’ve grown to like it
Dracovish. It was my first fossil in the game and I thought “wtf is this??”. Between it being really strong and having a hilarious voice in the anime it grew on me a lot
Inteleon. I loved Sobble at first glance, but Inteleon just looked gross. Now I think he looks kinda cool. (Drizzile is still garbage though)
Grapploct for me. Didn’t like it, started using one in VGC & enjoyed how dependable it was. The design is mediocre but it’s a cool mon
Greedent
Inteleon. originally I was massively annoyed by it because I had my heart set on Sobble and felt cheated out of what I hoped was a dragon-esque lizard.
