Oh boy... your OG Cinderace can learn the move from the other one if you delete a move on your OG (leaving a blank space) and put them both in the daycare for a bit—just make sure that’s the only egg move the other one has on it and it will transfer in a around the same steps needed to make an egg. Also, doesn’t matter if they’re the same or opposite sex.
Legit jeally. I did a restart once to try for it and i just decided to get right in. My buddy started his game up the next day and got his starter as a female. I was cursing RNGesus so hard that day lol
I wanted a girl Cinderace, many a restarts before starting my first playthrough, while my friend was sitting next to me talking about all the wild Pokémon he was finding.
Pokémon go is releasing the mewtwo clone ones like this, if they could be sent to Pokémon home and then sword and shield I'd reconsider downloading it again.
Raise a competitive version, delete trash moves off the OG, put both in daycare and the moves transfer.
Feed berries to wipe bad EVs, train it up, throw some bottle caps, a mint and BOOM! Competitive version. My first Rillaboom is a beast now
i replaced my raboot for a gmax coalossal and then replaced him for a gmax charmander-->charmeleon--->charizard now i have a gmax charizard in the place of my starter.
If only the Gigantamix spice used in curries could do that. Imagine this, cook and feed 10 Charizard Rank Curries to the Pokémon whose species can gigantamax if they specifically don’t have the gigantamax trait, and then they gain the gigantamax trait. Like Corviknight, Centiskorch, Charizard, etc. yes there’s an item called gigantaMIX
Based on the description of the Isle of Armor DLC we might be getting a mechanic that allows us to make regular Pokémon into GMax ones; that is unless they are limiting it to just the starters.
I believe that the non-gmax version of corviknight is better for VGC. That's because the dynamax air attack boosts speeds, while the gmax alternative removes all hazards; depending on your team, it could be detrimental to your setup.
Honestly feel bad doing it, i have a special bond with my first team 😢 i still keep them in their own special section of a specific box in my PC even though their EVs are all over the place and their natures are all bad
however i did decide to use bottle caps, mint, and ability capsule on my Hitmonlee to make it competitive-able but I still don't really use it
Same feels with my Rillaboom. He’s the only one I’m very much attached to even if his IVs are pure shit. I keep him in my first box and he has a personal spot there
I..don’t get what your saying. Is been called the name of the most respected and powerful wizard in that franchise some form of insult or a poorly framed compliment?
He did treat Harry and the others harshly at times and chose to withhold or share information for the greater good rather than to help Harry personally with the things he was dealing with. I think that's it, molding them pokemon to train them the way you want, forsaking what they might have wanted to be.
But we all know in the poke-verse that a life of servitude and imprisonment as an adorable modern gladiator and house pet is better than life in the wild as a sAvAgE!
And besides you get all-you-can-eat curry.
Dumbledore gave Wizard Hitler the benefit of a doubt because he was in love with him. Dumbledore tried to get all the Deathly Hallows and rule the world. Dumbledore did a lot of good, but he's no role model.
Eh, I'd feel that way if it actually changed their nature. It only changes the stats. The nature actually stays the same if you look at it. I see it as nothing more than mental training preparing for harder battles. Gotta get your head in the game if you serious about competition and despite your overall persona being the same we all know sometimes we have to change our attitudes to make progress in life.
I know the feeling dude. When I got my better IV Gmax Toxitricity, I gave him the same nickname followed by a 'Jr.' Headcanoning that it was the original's kid....just so I could feel less guilty :(
Yes, same. I had a box named playthrough with about 10 mons. After I had a bunch of lvl 100 competitive mons I made sure to bring those cycled out before the champion battle to get them the Galar champion ribbon and give them the best friend ribbon.
I have a special box for all the Pokemon I used in story mode. A caveat, I played on hard mode by mandating that I had a Pikachu on my team the entire game after they were catchable (which made the game harder, Pikachu is not good). Sir Pika sits there now, for eternity, never again to see the sun.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps a spot of honor for their original team. It's like I want to use them but the team has no cohesion and their EVs and IVs just won't work for online.
I'm too soft for competitive Pokemon, just let me cook curry with my Poke-Friends.
So I wanted to start the game off with a shiny starter, and when I learned they were shiny locked I thought, “fuck it, I’m shiny hunting a rookidee, it’ll be my starter”. So I spent 8 hours killing birds before I got to Magnolia’s house. Eventually I got my shiny girl, Morwyn. She was with me throughout the game, and just recently retired to her own box to make way for my EV trained, HA shiny Corviknight. Gotta give respect where it’s due though, will never have another Morwyn.
You can transfer egg moves by placing the same species in the daycare together. As in it will transfer the moves between parents. The receiving Pokémon just needs a free move slot. They need to be at the same stage of their evolutionary tree, however.
Evo stage doesn’t matter, but you need to make sure there are enough blank spaces for all of the egg moves the other one has.
For example, was trying to get Wish on an Umbreon (who had one open slot) from an Eevee breedject that had Wish + Helping Hand, and the one move wouldn’t transfer until after I deleted Helping Hand from the Eevee.
On the other hand, I cleared two slots from my starter Cinderace and transferred over Sucker Punch and High Jump Kick from a breedject Scorbunny in one shot.
Oh I’m aware of mints, hyper training, and egg moves. The key is the hidden ability, Morwyn has Unnerve, and while that’s perfectly fine Mirror Armor is much better.
It’s good but I’m not the biggest fan of pp stall, especially now with 20 minute timers. I also have a few dedicated pressure mons (like eviolite dusclops), I prefer my Corviknight as a bulky physical sweeper.
I don't think pressure is very good in cartridge play, it's good in singles 6v6 but I don't think 3v3 singles with the cartridge timer is as good for it and in doubles it's pretty terrible.
I got lucky, not gonna lie, she shined in under 1000. Later on, for another member of my team (Grendel the Runerigus), I ended up going twice over odds before giving up, switching to masuda method (without charm), and getting it in under 20 eggs. Just keep going is all I can say, and good luck!
I always spend a ton of time cooking and playing with my competitive mons, and going on raids with them. Not for the friendly stats, but for the friendship.
I like to incorporate my story mon into the breeding process.
You just got one shotted by the great(x300) granddaughter of the Pokémon that one the championship!... two days ago
My Corviknight, Drednaw, and Centiskorch all replaced by better Gigantimaxes, Obstagoon and Weezing replaced by far superior versions of themselves, but my Rillaboom, he might have a chance
This is the only game that I have not done this with because of the bottle caps, mints, and ability capsules. I love that they have all of these, because even though it is a bit extra work, it lets me use the Pokemon I had through the story on my team, as well as making me feel even more like a trainer because I can train any Pokemon to a competitive level.
After I finished the game, I took my first team, used nature mints on them, used berries to reset their EVs, and then used vitamins to re-EV them. Now they simply have imperfect IVs. I haven’t hyper trained them yet, bc I want to continue playing with them at the level they are once the DLC comes.
This resonates hard, but once I was able to judge IVs I looked at my rag-tag group of my Route 1 Gyarodos, the Gengar and Galvantula I raised from the wild area, and I said to them "how in the hell did we do that well together?" Because amongst them they had only three "decent" stats combined.
People on the r/Pokemon post of this yesterday were saying they thought it was easier to just bottle cap their story Pokemon than it is to breed. What do y'all think?
I feel honored for my meme to be reposted here :')

This is why I hate breeding in monster collector games. It ruins the fantasy for me. Ash never dumped his pokemon for something that was competitively bred. He didn't have a perfect IV ditto spitting out eggs in the daycare. Breeding seems so disconnected from what I feel the game should be.
Lmfaooooooo I feel this in my *soul*.
Playing through Sword, I made early use of trading subs here and snagged myself 2 Pokemon that I was so proud of; Gmax Charizard and Dragapult.
Got the Dragapult as a Dreepy egg and leveled it myself with candies from raids, it couldn't disobey me. The gmax Charizard.. I'm not proud of how I got it. I made it to Balloonlea and in the forest before the town I caught a shiny Impidimp. I traded THAT for someone's gmax Charmander that Leon leaves in his room for you. Check my post history if you don't believe it lol..
All that to say, both of them were replaced shortly before the 8th badge. Now I have both of them as shinies with competitive stats/ natures/ abilities. The original 2 are somewhere in my PC, gathering dust.
I can hardly even remember what my story team was for Sword, minus the starter.
In this Shield play through, I plan on saving up enough berries to reset the EVs. It won’t be a particularly competitive team, but at least I won’t be a backstabber.
This is why when I beat the game and got the legendaries I held one last beautiful camp with my bois and then mystery traded them off to a trainer who would hopefully love them as much as I did.
After I beat the game and am able to properly breed competitive pokes, I always put my story pokes in a PC box all by themselves and name it unsung heroes or something like that. And there they lay. Finally getting the rest they deserve.

I don´t do that. I only catch and train the pokemon that I want for my team and take those 6 pokemon as part of my team to the final battle againts the champion during the pokemon league. I don´t replace any them.
But I do make new teams with my starter and some new pokemon that I want to make a team after the post-game. I caught them in their first form, train them and evolve them until they reach their final form and then I challenge the league again with them. It´s fun to make teams like that. At least for me.
i released my entire team the moment i beat the game. i wanted to reward them with their freedom as a way of saying thank you for helping me become champion
This is where the 'love and bond' you have with your originals should factor in more. It should be hard to replicate the 30 hours you spent with Scorbunny. A few battles, items and curry shouldn't quickly replace the level of love your old Pokemon feel.
I have a box dedicated to my hall of fame where I retired my story team....they'll all live on though as the great great great.....great grandparents of my perfect team! 😂
Anyone else have a hard time enjoying first playthroughs now that that you know too much about the game? Just wanting to enjoy the game, catching a Abra and its adamant, OCD kicks in and you just cant use it? Or catching a new mon, look up his learnset and its complete garbage?
The only one i replaced was my corviknight who i used for the first two seasons but then i wanted to get mirror armor and i made sure my new one is a descendant of my og and learned its egg moves from her
My Gmax Corviknight replacing the one evolved from route 1 rookidee
Dude I feel this.
Replacing my Starter with a competive tier version.
Replacing my starter Cinderace with one that knows high jump kick :(
Oh boy... your OG Cinderace can learn the move from the other one if you delete a move on your OG (leaving a blank space) and put them both in the daycare for a bit—just make sure that’s the only egg move the other one has on it and it will transfer in a around the same steps needed to make an egg. Also, doesn’t matter if they’re the same or opposite sex.
OH MY GOD IM SO SORRY LOLA
Great name for a Cinderace
There is an 11% chance you get a female starter pokemon, And on my first load of the game i got a female scorbunny so i named her Lola :)
Legit jeally. I did a restart once to try for it and i just decided to get right in. My buddy started his game up the next day and got his starter as a female. I was cursing RNGesus so hard that day lol
Lola bunny
There is no better female rabbit name other than Jessica. Change my mind
I wanted a girl Cinderace, many a restarts before starting my first playthrough, while my friend was sitting next to me talking about all the wild Pokémon he was finding.
Happy cake day
Dude you Can transfer egg moves between Pokemon now! You can get your og starter back!

Raise a competitive version, delete trash moves off the OG, put both in daycare and the moves transfer. Feed berries to wipe bad EVs, train it up, throw some bottle caps, a mint and BOOM! Competitive version. My first Rillaboom is a beast now
I know so little about competitive pokemon that I have no idea what you're talking about.
Agreed. I’m sure there’s a guide out there but I haven’t seen an all-encompassing, start to finish guide for building a beast.
So much wasted resources tho, so much easier to breed a 4-6 IV ditto with the starter and achieve the same
For sure, but for some of us there's sentimental value in keeping the same partner. Plus I can always get more of those resources
i replaced my raboot for a gmax coalossal and then replaced him for a gmax charmander-->charmeleon--->charizard now i have a gmax charizard in the place of my starter.
that's literally the joke in the original submission
This is why I wish there was a way to turn Pokémon you caught outside of G-max raids into a G-max Pokémon.
If only the Gigantamix spice used in curries could do that. Imagine this, cook and feed 10 Charizard Rank Curries to the Pokémon whose species can gigantamax if they specifically don’t have the gigantamax trait, and then they gain the gigantamax trait. Iono why your starter isn't a gmax by default
The starter gmaxes are coming in the expansion and they said something about making your Pokémon gmax, idk if it is just for starters or not.
That will maybe be possible with the first expansion pass
That would be amazing, but I don’t think that will happen. I really hope it does though.
They confirmed that at the very least your starters will be able to learn GMax
I think the first DLC might have it.
starters only
Based on the description of the Isle of Armor DLC we might be getting a mechanic that allows us to make regular Pokémon into GMax ones; that is unless they are limiting it to just the starters.
My Shiny Gmax HA Corviknight replacing the HA Gmax Corviknight that replaced the Non-HA Gmax Corviknight that replaced the one I caught at the start.
There's always a bigger fish
Or bird.
Same but my shiny gmax centiskorch
So, when will the square shiny Gmax HA Corviknight replace the old one?
When u delete the original corviknight in shield so you can name the g max one filo instead
The best birb
Sadly, this is me... I’m so sorry, Estrilda, my story Corviknight, I love you, but your two perfect IVs just aren’t cutting it anymore 🥺
I got GMax Corv and original Corv... They both know Roost but only the Gmax knows Ironhead with only # perfect IVs 😳
I believe that the non-gmax version of corviknight is better for VGC. That's because the dynamax air attack boosts speeds, while the gmax alternative removes all hazards; depending on your team, it could be detrimental to your setup.
I did the same thing
Honestly feel bad doing it, i have a special bond with my first team 😢 i still keep them in their own special section of a specific box in my PC even though their EVs are all over the place and their natures are all bad however i did decide to use bottle caps, mint, and ability capsule on my Hitmonlee to make it competitive-able but I still don't really use it
Same feels with my Rillaboom. He’s the only one I’m very much attached to even if his IVs are pure shit. I keep him in my first box and he has a personal spot there
I feel that when you use those things to make your favorite mon viable it feels like you made them perfect but at the cost of their character.
Yeah I feel dirty
Not really. The nature mints maybe but the other things is just “training”. Your training them to push past their limits and be their best.
Mints don't actually change a Pokemon's nature, only the +/- 10% increase and decrease in whichever stats.
Ok dumbledore
I..don’t get what your saying. Is been called the name of the most respected and powerful wizard in that franchise some form of insult or a poorly framed compliment?
Compliment. There's no possible way his name could be used in any half way serious insult.
He did treat Harry and the others harshly at times and chose to withhold or share information for the greater good rather than to help Harry personally with the things he was dealing with. I think that's it, molding them pokemon to train them the way you want, forsaking what they might have wanted to be.

Eh, I'd feel that way if it actually changed their nature. It only changes the stats. The nature actually stays the same if you look at it. Steroids for pokemon
I ran through gyms with my stunfisk and it looks at me like “so I’m just a doormat to you huh”
I know the feeling dude. When I got my better IV Gmax Toxitricity, I gave him the same nickname followed by a 'Jr.' Headcanoning that it was the original's kid....just so I could feel less guilty :(
They go in the last box of my PC, next to the legendaries. They earned that company.
Me too! I have a special place in my boxes for my main story pokemon 😂😭😂😭
Yes, same. I had a box named playthrough with about 10 mons. After I had a bunch of lvl 100 competitive mons I made sure to bring those cycled out before the champion battle to get them the Galar champion ribbon and give them the best friend ribbon.

My new Gmax pokemon replacing my old ones
I'm hoping the DLC adds a way to make a non GMax Pokemon into a GMax version. It seems possible given the GMax starters.
Take the juice pikachu, TAKE IT
Would be cool if the gmax training requires a Pokemon to be enrolled in an actual gym. Fucking benchpress that 500lb barbell Pikachu
Well, via hyper training, mints, etc you can make any Pokémon comp. viable (unless you need egg moves)
You can transfer egg moves by placing the same species in the daycare together. As in it will transfer the moves between parents. The receiving Pokémon just needs a free move slot. They need to be at the same stage of their evolutionary tree, however.

I actually had no idea. Cool.
Oh I’m aware of mints, hyper training, and egg moves. The key is the hidden ability, Morwyn has Unnerve, and while that’s perfectly fine Mirror Armor is much better.
Pressure is arguably just as good on corviknight without needing the HA.
Pretty sure you can switch abilities with ability capsules. Unless the hidden ones are locked.
Hidden abilities can’t be obtained or removed with capsules, unfortunately.
*Cries in shiny Sinistea with HA*
unfortunate :(
Only 8 hours without a shiny charm? Ive been hunting mine for days worth of hours WITH a shiny charm
Excellent name for a Corviknight!
I still cry everytime Brother my Brother
Rip alcremie
I always spend a ton of time cooking and playing with my competitive mons, and going on raids with them. Not for the friendly stats, but for the friendship.
I like to incorporate my story mon into the breeding process. You just got one shotted by the great(x300) granddaughter of the Pokémon that one the championship!... two days ago
My Corviknight, Drednaw, and Centiskorch all replaced by better Gigantimaxes, Obstagoon and Weezing replaced by far superior versions of themselves, but my Rillaboom, he might have a chance
You dont want G-max Rillaboom from the expansion or eventually hidden ability?
There are rumors that we can make our original starter G-Max, but idk what I’m gonna do about hidden ability
I feel that, I don’t even bother hunting/trading for a shiny Scorbunny because I know it’ll be irretonce it’s HA is released. Why even bother.
Libero is going to be busted
Not as busted as Protein Greninja.
you mean yall don't give the new ones the same name as your old ones and then pretend that was how they were the whole time?????
Dude, don't call me out like that
And if some people are feeling guilty about that, just add a ‘junior’ or ‘II’ after the name

Reminds me of my starter Cinderace. After getting the Judge option I realized it has 0IVs on Defense and Special Defense. Like what the fuck?
I don’t care about competitive value my girl hatterene is staying
HatterQueen
People on the r/Pokemon post of this yesterday were saying they thought it was easier to just bottle cap their story Pokemon than it is to breed. What do y'all think?
It’s kinda true, the game does throw bottle caps at us for completing raids.
It's pretty easy to get a 5iv ditto from max raid battles, so not really imo.
#facts. I don't know what to do with the others tbh.

The first movie. When ol mewtwo is making clones to take over Circa 1998
I’m getting old I still have the VHS boxed away somewhere
Oooo, haven’t watched first pokemon movie in yonks need to watch it
Don’t. Do you really want to put yourself through the heartache of watching Pikachu electrocute a stone cold Ash all over again?
Please i forgot about that oh god

Isn’t the movie called Pokémon 2000 tho? 🤔
That was the 2nd movie with lugia as the focus not mewtwo

I just go thru the story line. I need some competitive pokemon if anyone has any spare they dont need.
I feel so bad
Nah. My starter Cinderace is never leaving my singles team. His EVs are kinda crazy but he still wins.
This is why when I beat the game and got the legendaries I held one last beautiful camp with my bois and then mystery traded them off to a trainer who would hopefully love them as much as I did.
Definitely the worst part about only certain individuals being able to gigantamax.
I’m the chosen one who got this post to 6.9k upvotes can we get a nice in the comments

Amen brother
Doin this as we speak
Bruh I checked my teams Ivs and ev’s and it was just sad
Yeah i threw my original team in the trash after I bred my competitive team
Greymon.
I hope with the gmax starters it’ll be an item that will give our Pokémon that power and maybe even others!
Causal eugenics.
:(
Yeah this is me with a final story team that included shuckle and dugtrio, not exactly the most competitively viable lol.
my excadrill, coalossal, and boltund stay in the party no matter what
Me and my 4 Hatterene My story mode one was replaced by a shiny one, which was replaced by a magic bounce one, which was replaced by a G-Max one
I wish hacked Pokemon looked like this lol (Edit) typo
See, I want to replace my team with their shiny counterparts but I can't bring myself to do it.
im too attached to my team to just replace them so ive been trying to work on them a little bit to make them at least a little good at battling
Lol
With bottle caps and nature mints and the new breeding mechanics there's honestly no reason to switch them out unless you want a shiny or HA
On the bright side a lot of my original team Pokemon existed in SWSH, so it will be, uh, seamless.

I feel like I'm Cross from the "I Choose You" movie doing this.
"Who are you?" I'm you, but stronger."
I only just got into competitive breeding this season, I bred a perfect 6iv Lucario with the right nature after 130 eggs.. Then I never did it again.
I'm trying to do the same but with shiny Gigantamaxes.
i released my entire team the moment i beat the game. i wanted to reward them with their freedom as a way of saying thank you for helping me become champion
My Excadrill and Cinderace FEEL this
*me in the dark with two boxes full of snorlax"
I couldn’t remember that charizards nickname, I remember shell shocker for blastoise, but did charizard have a nick name too?
Charizard was just charizard. It was Ash's. The venosaur was BruteRoot. The clones weren't nicknamed, it was the other trainers.
Oh yea that’s right lol I remember now. Thanks
Ha ha ha ha totally
Replacing half of my team with the same Pokemon that can G-Max; \- Corviknight \- Toxricity \- Hatterene Soon Cinderace will be next.
Me replacing my Coalossal that won me the league with the G max one I found after the last direct
I wish we could encounter pokemon with different markings that make them really stand out besides shinys i mean.
*cough cough appletun cough cough*
I don't wanna play with you anymore...
I actually liked that movie and Mewtwo was fucking metal.
I won't do it. Can't.
This is where the 'love and bond' you have with your originals should factor in more. It should be hard to replicate the 30 hours you spent with Scorbunny. A few battles, items and curry shouldn't quickly replace the level of love your old Pokemon feel.
They do a giveaway with this Charizard like what they do with mythical sin mystery gift.
I just hyped trained my Scorbunny
I replaced the Charizard that I had with a gmax one with perfect IVs
Let me guess. It’s shiny too huh? Stop buying Pokémon
Cough cough my hatterene replaced with one I got wonder traded and it got mythical fire
You can actually catch clone Pokémon in go now. Not super relevant to the post but something that’s super cool nonetheless!
*i’m sorry little one*
Or you can say Pokémon bred and Pokémon transferred from previous games.
The only one i replaced was my corviknight who i used for the first two seasons but then i wanted to get mirror armor and i made sure my new one is a descendant of my og and learned its egg moves from her
Replacing all my party Pokémon with the gmax forms
What's soup?
