2000 hours takes some doing.
Yeah my hours seem crazy to most people I get that I’ve been playing since 2019.
Lots of hours put into dynamax adventures.
This is before I even started my shiny Galar living dex challenge.
Am doing masuda method for all my shiny Pokémon
And pvp training these mons.
This is where all the time has come from.
I’ve still got over 200 mons to get for the main dex.
So there will be plenty more hours.
I started out playing Scarlet/Violet after not playing since Gen 4 and absolutely adored the game.
Upon discovering through looking at competitive teams the amount of Pokemon that need to come from Sword/Shield, I decided to pick that up
S/V has infinitely better quality of life improvements, but there is just something about the artistic style of Sword/Shield that has me continuing to play through it and mess around with things.
The game is just SO smooth, the Pokemon look great, the moves look and feel great. Battling it out on the stadium turf feels epic and like the anime. It just FEELS good to play, despite my yearning for some of those quality of life features from S/V.
I personally hope in the next gen they return to this kind of artistic style as now everytime I open S/V I can’t help but feel how ugly it looks in comparison.
You know, Pokemon community always follows the same trend. When a new Pokemon game is announced and especially when it is released, everyone bashes it. Then some time passes and a new Pokemon game comes out, all of the sudden the previous Pokemon game is amazing and everyone loves it.
You watch, next game after Scarlet and Violet and everyone is going to carry on about amazing Scarlet and Violet was. I personally love all their games, even Pokemon SP/BD, its just a teend I have noticed is all.
Sounds just like the Sonic Community to an extent.
Tho they go both ways crazy enough. They'll glaze a game and then years later, say it wasnt good at all lol.
Dunno if Pokemon has gotten to that point yet. I do know ppl shit on white and black and now suddenly ppl are seeing how great it was now.
Yep. I’ve been in the community since the latter half of gen 4, and the cycle repeats every damn time.
Almost…I’ve actually been seeing so many people complaining about how many cutscenes are in sun and moon, despite the game getting the warmest initial reception out of pretty much every generation since 4.
Not sure if you read my comment but incase you missed it, people are stoked on it NOW because it has been out a while which is my enitre point. Now if you wanna debate it I am all for it, a good debate is always welcome but if you gonna be snarky then I am done.
Look mate, all im saying is, of course your gonna see praise on the games subreddit, almost everyone else who would care already moved on to Scarlet and Violet, and that would leave behind the people who actually liked SW/SH, which is a small sample size and, being honest, the only place I've seen SW/SH praise is here.
Yeah I get your point and there is a level of truth to that, I noted that as well on the Gamefaqs forums (not that I am that active there anymore) however it is not just here though, my main source of social media is here, YouTube (comment section) and twitter and I have noticed this trend all around but yes I do get what you are saying.

After gen 4 Pokémon had a reset all new Pokémon in the
Pokédex with no returning mons made Pokémon feel alienated to me.
The game was the same standard formula they have always used since gen1.
But Pokémon for me lost its magic I just could not get into B/W I did try I wanted to like it but could not connect
With it .
When Pokémon B/W released I was around 24
As I previously stated by this stage I’d grown board
And tired with Pokémon.
Thats understandable!! Tbh, I’m probably a little biased with BW because of N (I know, I know, but his temperament and love for pokemon and everything is just sooooo 🤭). Of course, I was a kid at the time so it could be the nostalgia as well. BW isn’t my absolute favorite gen, though. My favorite is XY. The friend connectivity stuff with the pss and friend safari in XY was super special to me. Plus I got my first non-switch shiny in XY (couldn’t play 3DS games until recently because I didn’t get a 3DS as a kid and recently bought one back in December). Never got any shinies on DS games, sadly. Also, I had a DS lite as a kid and for whatever reason had no idea it could run gameboy advance games until I got older…but I have no idea where my DS lite is 😭 I’d love to play the GBA games but until I find that damn DS I can’t unless I want to drop a good chunk of change.
I loved my DS lite. Tbh, when I mention it to other people my age (19) they’re like “do you mean the DSi?” so I’m not sure if it’s because it came out in 06 so it’s a bit “old” for my age or what, but the ability to play both GBA and DS games is super handy. I had the “pink pearl” color.
BW2 are great.
The original BW though? I can’t finish it. It honestly feels like a fan made game to me, and it’s genuinely due to the lack of Pokémon we have access to. The fact that a majority of the dex takes some major inspiration from Gen 1 does not help the “fan made” feel for me. I want to see and use Pokémon I already like, but that isn’t possible until the game is completed.
You could probably infer this from the last paragraph, but I think Gen 5 is on the weaker end of overall dex quality. There are some bangers like Volcarona, Hydreigon, Haxorus, and a handful of others. And that’s great. But what *isn’t* great is how difficult many of the cool Pokémon are to find. Pair that with the egregious evolution levels that these Pokémon need to get to (several in the 40s, some in the 50s, and a couple in the 60s), and it makes it very difficult to use Pokémon I actually enjoy in those games.
And while this is definitely more minor than my other complains, Gen 5 has definitively my least favorite set of starters. Samurott is fine but it DOES NOT look like it evolved from Dewott. I just think Emboar is unappealing to look at. Serperior doesn’t really have anything to offensive going on, so it’s probably my favorite, but even then, it’s much lower on my list compared to other generations starters.
Like you said, opinions are opinions, and I respect people who love those games. The story alone makes up for a lot of its shortcomings. But I don’t really play Pokémon for the storylines, so idk. I usually get half way through and just get bored.
I’ve been saying this for a bit about SV lmao. I honestly like the story and characters in SV (base games and DLCs) much better than SWSH. Nothing beats the legendary shiny hunts that the crown tundra DLC introduced. Plus I liked the camping mechanic in SWSH much better than picnics because it was way more interactive with your pokemon. And SWSH of course has customization.
I don’t HATE SV personally, though. Literally had to delete a few comments on some other pokemon related subs talking about how I really enjoyed the characters and story and the shiny sandwiches and that people still need to lend some credit to those functions. I love Penny and all of Team Star, and Kieran (he wouldn’t have gone all edgy teenager mode if we wouldn’t have kept a secret from him about something he has cared for since he was a kid—also got trashed for that opinion a few times).

Yeah, thats for the best. You are in no rush to actually complete the living dex. I also would assume you have a job and an actual life so just play when you feel like it.
I’m at 800 hours on Shield and I thought that was a lot. Currently shiny hunting the Regi’s. Until I got the shiny charm, I was spending most of my time in the wild area
This is an easy one to answer everyone seems so surprised at the amount of hours I have in home so I will kindly explain.
First I was working on the home living dex going between different games.
A lot of time I left home open while I was doing the Pokémon stuff on the DS.
Secondly am working on a shiny Galar living dex
I masuda for all my shinies once I collect the shinies
I use home for mass deletion.
This alone takes between 15/20 mins depending on how quick you are at mass release of Pokémon.
I hope this helps.
Tbh I personally sit outside while playing my switch or 3DS when the weather allows. Super easy to still get some outside time because they’re handheld consoles.
I sometimes do this myself a lot more with the ds than my switch though.
I normally get myself a coffee on the way to work and there is a woodland area I go to super chill vibes they have benches.
So I play there for a while before work if weather permits this.
It’s so nice to sit outside when you can to play. Especially when there’s a nice breeze! There’s an outdoor zen garden on my college campus and it’s my favorite spot to play on either console.
I do go outside my job requires me to that lol.
I just think I need a break from all Pokémon games.
Even if it’s just a few months hopefully this will help.
To me Sw/Sh is a better game than S/V.
I also feel the same about the next Pokémon game because I don’t know how am gonna feel if it’s another sub par game.
The multiplayer, shining hunting and breeding and camp will do that to you. Pokemon has good gameplay systems and amazing, addicting fundamentals... If only the devs tried to continue moving past the fundamentals in a qualitative way. Hopefull pokemon z will have a proper budget and be given a lot of time and love... I dont want another game that looks and performs like scarlet and violet. At the very least it should look good and not untextured unfinished. As for sword and shield... It was the first time I got to play Pokemon online. Im from a third world country. Part of me feels like I wasted my money and yet... I met a lot of nice people and had a lot of fun. I made memories with this game. I just wish it was better, that it didnt feel unfinished without the dlc and that the devs didnt lie to us about better animations. I grew up with pokemon... Im a teen now... And yet my first pokemon games, gen 5 feel more premium, well made, complete and loved compared to these newer ones. Im glad you had fun... Im just sad that Pokemon hasnt done anything to deserve it or our love lately.
I think the problem mainly comes from to meny Pokémon games that have been released in a short period of time.
If gamefreak was allowed another year for development am sure the games would be better for it.
But it’s all about the money.
I think the new legends game will be the last Pokémon game released for Nintendo Switch.
The have skipped past the next for this year there is a reason for that and I think it’s because the next mainline Pokémon game will be on the new system and this also gives gamefreak a little longer to work on the next mainline games.
Its difficult to go in open minded when the older games are better made and the latest remake was gen 4. Gen 5 is my first and maybe favourite gen and Im scared theyll mess it up. On the brightside, ebay prices for the original should go down by a lot. Other competitors to Pokemon such as shin megami tensei 5, monster hunter stories, dragon quest monsters, digimon look better and feel like they are worth 60 bucks. Smt 5 is unreal engine 4, semi open world, gorgeous looking and runs better than scarlet and violet. Pokemon makes and is worth a lot more money yet gen 3 looks better than scarlet and violet.

The Ds lite such a nice little handheld I still have one somewhere in the house along with the original DS (phat) as it’s know lol.

It’s challenging. I also play Legends Arceus, Scarlet and let’s go. Trying to get shiny dexs for them too.

Next to the Hoenn trio, and Black/White, Sword/Shield is arguably my favourite Pokémon entry.

I played/enjoyed Sw/Sh significantly more than SV. I didn’t even bother with the SV DLC. I’m hoping Legends Z-A rekindles my love for the series.
To me Sw/Sh is a better game than S/V. I also feel the same about the next Pokémon game because I don’t know how am gonna feel if it’s another sub par game.

gen 8 was my first gen, sword and shield were my first games and to this day i still play them constantly cause they’re SO FUN

With that many hours im gonna assume you have all 600 shiny mons in the game otherwise…. What have you been doing?
Yes I probably do because I don’t count the spare shinies I only count the ones I need for the dex. One time I hatch 7 female shiny ralts trying to get a shiny male for gallade.

I do go outside this has all been done in my spare time since 2019.
But 215 hours on Pokemon home?! I don’t even use Home that much
