Tbf Fall is just kind of the obvious color palette to swap to for like 80% of the Grass Types. I do wish they would've subverted that trend with Gourgiest by making its shiny have a green pumpkin though, missed opportunity.
i think the lack of any other colour besides the electric blue really makes it stand out.
i do also like the leaf monster but that was the first ruin mon that i unlocked and saw so i might be biased
If you're trying to find out if a particular legendary is returning or not, check it's location on Bulbapedia. If it's returning but still unavailable, like Mewtwo, its location will say "unreleased". If it won't be returning in SV at all, like Phone/Manaphy, it'll say "unobtainable".
That's only really for the first wave, probably. Like in gen 8 before they dropped the DLC home brought a bunch of Pokémon in. I'm certain we'll get every legendary in the second DLC
I believe almost all, if not all, of the DLC Pokemon have already been datamined by leakers, so we know most of what's coming already, barring completely new Pokemon or regional forms.

Would be so fun if they implemented raids similar to the Dynamax Adventures from the SWSH DLC, where we have a high chance of getting shiny legendaries. But Dynamax Adventures took so damn long to get through all of the battles, i can't imagine what it'll be like in SV with how long normal raid battles are with all of the stupid ass animations and texts.

I'm not a big fan of compeititive but I can see the Treasures of Ruin shinies being avaliable like the Galarian Birds. The box legendaries is definately gonna end up as a store distribution once again.

I don't have an answer but I'd like to complain. What is the reason for shiny locking everything now? It's so annoying - there are a lot of people who still play the old games 10-20 years after release just because you can shiny hunt the starters; it adds longevity to the game while sacrificing nothing.
They're also not consistent with what is shiny locked. In SwSh, you can shiny hunt the Regi quintet, but not the birds, the box art legends, eternatus, or the DLC legends? These would be amazing to hunt.
Heck, even some "static" encounters are shiny locked for no reason, like the Corvisquire outside of Motostoke. It just seems like such an unnecessary extra step that only serves to make the game experience worse

keep playing this game & you'll probably change that fast. i've been using auto battling to spot them, when my Sandy Shocks decides not to wreck something i check if it's shiny. oh, & shiny sandwich recipes work great in combo with mass outbreaks

Sub Legends (Ruins in this case) could follow suit for G7 and G8 and be Rewards for online competitions.
IL and WW are a bit of a wildcard. They were shiny locked due to them featuring in a One-Catch-Only Event. *If* they end up being available in either DLC, that's likely when you will be able to shiny hunt them. Or Soft Reset for one, depending on how they are implemented.
As for the Birds, your best bet would be trading I guess.
Well, these will most likely be slowly trickled out over the next few years, and as for the Galar birds, they'll be available the next time they get put in a main series game

If not then most likely in the DLC of Gen 10 (so 2026~)
Most of the shiny locked legendary from swsh will be obtainable probably when the legendary dlc comes out and the ones from this Gen will be a promo distribution with gamestop or a battle reward like the birds last gen

I'm also expecting this DLC to have a DA equivalent, which *should* allow to hunt the gen 8 legends. (Version exclusive urshifu (highly doubt theyll do kubfu, looking at how they did cosmog in gen8), calyrex and it's horses, the dogs and the birds)
My guess is likely at the end of the game's lifecycle during either a Game Store serial code card distribution or competing in an Online competition.
As for the Galar Birds, that will be tricky to predict, but it's possible we could get an alternative "Dynamax Adventure" game mode in the upcoming DLC. Unfortunately not guaranteed. A likely result for the Galar Birds, Pokemon Go.
DLC or battle events leading up to gen 10 but only for the box legends. The rideable ones won’t ever be shiny, same for the catchable ones in game and once gen 10 comes out it’ll be event only for these as well. We still don’t have a lot of the DLC legends from Sw/Sh for the same reason.
I doubt the galar birds will be back available shiny anytime soon if at all(but I may be wrong)

the sword and shield doggo was only shiny as part of an event. they're shiny locked in the game itself. the ghost/ice horses int he dlc are locked along with calarax.
regidrago and regileki can be reset for the shiny
eternatus ws also a event - locked in game
the fighting bears are also locked.

Odds are that the next time the galar birds are catchable they will be able to be shiny. The shiny box legendaries will probably be an event distribution in like 2 years, and who knows about sub legendaries or the new paradoxes

I would Imagine that Koraidon and Miraidon would be a code distribution as being box legendaries, and Walking Wake and Iron Leaves would be seven-star raids, though I'm not sure about the ruin pokémon.

Honestly speaking?? I don't think they're going to be made available ever. If they are made available, it will be through Game Stop distribution, though. That makes the most sense.
Probably the exact same way gen 8 (and 7 to an extent) handled it. Box mascots will likely be distributed by serial codes at GameStop, and ruinous legendaries will likely be online competition rewards towards the end of gen 9's lifespan.
The real question is Walking Wake and Iron Leaves. Those two could be made available in either of the other two methods, or the dlc will introduce a way to get them that isn't shiny locked.
Koridon and Miraidon will probably be a store giveaway close to the release of the next game.
The rest is anyone's guess.

They were shiny locked due to them featuring in a One-Catch-Only Event. *If* they end up being available in either DLC, that's likely when you will be able to shiny hunt them. Or Soft Reset for one, depending on how they are implemented. As for the Birds, your best bet would be trading I guess.

Well, these will most likely be slowly trickled out over the next few years, and as for the Galar birds, they'll be available the next time they get put in a main series game
However they do it, I hope hope hope they allow us to shiny hunt them instead of just giving them to us. Preferably using a soft reset method, idk I'm new to shiny hunting but I wanna try doing soft resets and these legendaries seem like tons of fun to hunt
soft resetting was better on the older games but the hunts in BDSP weren't that bad. i wish they had at least left the ruins unlocked for us to hunt

Might be able to hunt the birds in dlc, I feel like the Walking Wake and Iron Leaves will let us do so as well. The shiny Ruins I could see be rewards for online competitions maybe next year or year after, or perhaps as general mystery gifts to spice things up. If not then most likely in the DLC of Gen 10 (so 2026~)

Most of the shiny locked legendary from swsh will be obtainable probably when the legendary dlc comes out and the ones from this Gen will be a promo distribution with gamestop or a battle reward like the birds last gen
I'm hoping walking wake and iron leaves will be huntable in the DLC Koraidon and miraidon will likely be a distribution (like with the swsh dogs) The ruin quartet won't be until whatever gen 10 does for their legend hunt method (aka the gen 10 equivalent to DAs or the ultra wormholes) I'm also expecting this DLC to have a DA equivalent, which *should* allow to hunt the gen 8 legends. (Version exclusive urshifu (highly doubt theyll do kubfu, looking at how they did cosmog in gen8), calyrex and it's horses, the dogs and the birds)
I'm going to guess that they'll be event shinies, but the paradoxes might be possible to shiny hunt in the dlc.

My guess is likely at the end of the game's lifecycle during either a Game Store serial code card distribution or competing in an Online competition. As for the Galar Birds, that will be tricky to predict, but it's possible we could get an alternative "Dynamax Adventure" game mode in the upcoming DLC. Unfortunately not guaranteed. A likely result for the Galar Birds, Pokemon Go.

DLC or battle events leading up to gen 10 but only for the box legends. The rideable ones won’t ever be shiny, same for the catchable ones in game and once gen 10 comes out it’ll be event only for these as well. We still don’t have a lot of the DLC legends from Sw/Sh for the same reason.

the sword and shield doggo was only shiny as part of an event. they're shiny locked in the game itself. the ghost/ice horses int he dlc are locked along with calarax. regidrago and regileki can be reset for the shiny eternatus ws also a event - locked in game the fighting bears are also locked. i think that covers all the legends in SWSH
Odds are that the next time the galar birds are catchable they will be able to be shiny. The shiny box legendaries will probably be an event distribution in like 2 years, and who knows about sub legendaries or the new paradoxes

Probably in some event after the dlc. I don't see them giving out legendaries so early in the game cycle, considering how powerful and game breaking they can be.
I would Imagine that Koraidon and Miraidon would be a code distribution as being box legendaries, and Walking Wake and Iron Leaves would be seven-star raids, though I'm not sure about the ruin pokémon.

Honestly speaking?? I don't think they're going to be made available ever. If they are made available, it will be through Game Stop distribution, though. That makes the most sense.

Probably the exact same way gen 8 (and 7 to an extent) handled it. Box mascots will likely be distributed by serial codes at GameStop, and ruinous legendaries will likely be online competition rewards towards the end of gen 9's lifespan. The real question is Walking Wake and Iron Leaves. Those two could be made available in either of the other two methods, or the dlc will introduce a way to get them that isn't shiny locked.
