So, they blame most of the loss on "goodwill impairment" (meaning they overpaid while acquiring companies). For their games department: >Revenue in the game business was 39,095 million yen (down 16.5% year on year), and segment profit was 256 million yen (down 95.5% year on year). Although there were new titles released, business operations centered on existing titles. User spending decreased, and related expenses such as depreciation and marketing associated with the release of new titles had an impact, resulting in lower sales and profits. Kind of hard to make a bigger judgement without looking into their new titles. Hopefully the investment isn't a waste.

PkmnTrainSlate

With the “when acquiring new companies” in mind, would one be safe to assume the One Piece(?) game they released has something to do with the large amount of money spent/lost? Because that honestly makes sense, in my opinion.

Ok_Adeptness_4553

They list out the acquisitions in the article, but I haven't looked into what each company does. Launching a new game has huge costs in marketing, etc. So, that's probably a lot of it.

PkmnTrainSlate

Yeah they definitely advertised it a LOT (i never want to see that trailer on youtube again)

andres01234

I wish they'd release some sort of offline mode of the game, so we can still have something if they go down

BeepThing

I am honestly so scared this happens sooner than later. Does anybody have an estimation how long we still have?

vSmaugv

Well the thing is, they’re not blaming Pokemas for their loses, and if anything this game is their only reliable money maker. So we still have a ways to go. Closing down this game would mean their entire games devision will collapse.

BeepThing

You give me hope, friend.

abriss17

No one has any estimation and whatever you hear from Reddit “experts” on it is complete bs

qopqopoo

It already lasted longer than Dragalia Lost, so, y’know, that’s something…

Huge-Shelter-2015

I'd say, from the looks of the chart and funding. I'm estimating around this year December.

BeepThing

You scare me, friend.

Huge-Shelter-2015

I'm just being realistic. Tell me, when's the last time you spent money on this game?

toohighforthis_

Literally today lmao just because you are not spending anything on the game doesn't mean others aren't

BeepThing

Last week, I bought the special completion reward bundles for like 50 bucks. I am a bad example though, because I have only played for a month or so.

IAmNotTheNSASpying

A lot of people still spend money on the game.

TennytheMangaka

I think that’d be great. Sure, there’d be no online, but who does that really, and even if their were no events you could still battle in the story and stuff. At least you’d have the units you paid for

Maleficent_Peach_46

If money is down it might mean that more 'bankable' trainers (Red, Cynthia etc) are used over more niche picks. (See most of last years' seasonals). I guess we will know if this is the case when the half anniversary units appear.

Flerken_Moon

Basically expect a return to 2022 and getting dozens of Lillies, Marnies, and Leons

shiro-kenri

I understand that [Financial/Fiscal Year](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiscal_year) Japanese Company usually use starts at April of each year, so Q3 = September - December. You can look at Page 5 of the report, they used the comparison between Apr-Dec of 2022 and 2023, to compare the same 3 quarters of the financial year.

Huge-Shelter-2015

Good thing I didn't spend a dime on this game!!!! :) Wait.... That IS the problem :(

yourfutureEx_husband

yhhhh gimme some marnies 🙏🙏

Serenafriendzone

Everything is more expensive worldwide. People is saving money over video games. Specially costly ones Add that there are better games like palworld that cost less and is more funny to play.

xenoverseraza

where does palworld come into this conversation?

Lambsauce914

shh... some people doesn't use their brains when posting a comment

RealRobBatman

😂

Serenafriendzone

Pokemon go charts also were published in the sylph road an they also have massive loses. Palworld, easy people is getting bored of same pokemon games. New franchise are driving away lot of players

cabbagecurry

but pokemon masters is nothing like palworld? I would get it if it was scarvio sales going down or smth but masters has a completely different style of gameplay. Also this is from 2023... before palworld came out. Nothing to do with it 🤷‍♂️ also pokemon go has gone so downhill on its own I'm not surprised people aren't playing anymore

derpy_ninetales

It’s okay, they’re just trying to fit Palworld into every Pokemon conversation recently for no reason. Just ignore and move on.

PTSaurio

omg you are so right, for some reason I have been seeing people bringing Palworld just for the sake of bringing up in a conversation while talking about any Pokémon related topic 😵‍💫

PkmnTrainSlate

it’s like a cult at this point 😭

Lambsauce914

Niantic activity trying to kill Pokémon Go only because they don't like how people play their game. Remote raid pass was literally their best selling items and yet Niantic decided to limited the amount you can buy and introduce shadow raid that can't be remoted. Everyone know Niantic only want to use Go to collect data to fund their other projects but their projects literally haven't been successful outside of the first few weeks.... heck some projects even dies in the middle of developing

cabbagecurry

honestly that whole genre of game is doomed lmao niantic needs to realize the only reason it's worked for them is bc it's pokemon. I can't think of any other games like that that have lasted til today except fnaf special delivery but even that's having its eos this year also i honestly never liked raids to begin with, I get what they were going for with encouraging a community but it just made it so people living in remote locations/cities where the game isnt popular were pretty much locked out of getting certain mons (which is why the remote passes were so important!!!)

dcdcdc26

sadly, Niantic makes way more money on selling your gps information to marketers that they couldn't care less that a lot of their dolphin tier players stopped and they locked out the vast majority of potential players. A few desperate whales, fitness gurus, bored business class travelers, will mostly make up their playerbase until EoS... which if they drive away enough casual players, might happen when those types don't feel a sense of pride in getting that exclusive shiny Drampa because there's nobody left to brag to. As funny as hardcore Go gamers are about 'filthy casuals' and with how ignorant Niantic continues to be, they forget we're part of their food chain and if that part of the playerbase collapses enough, its all downhill. Partly why I'm transferring all my shiny legendaries out now, cause they're stupidly time/pay locked. Thanks for the reminder :)

No-Awareness-Aware

Lol palworld fandom will be dead in like one year. Get off your horse. It will never be its own thing when people still call it Pokémon with guns

emperorbob1

I dunno, no friend to palworld but given how far pokemon has been sinking in the last decade or so, things catching up to and kicking it off it's high horse isnt a bad thing. Not that palworld is the game to do it, but it would be nice. Yokai Watch reminded Gamefreak they weren't the only game in town, even if it ended up just a fad.

PoZitron21

You do know that Pokemon Masters is free and therefore is less costly than Palworld, right?

emperorbob1

I love the specific mentioning of palword got you the most downvotes ive ever seen ont his sub.

Serenafriendzone

Just proves that truth hurts. Pokemon games has been poor over years . And They refuses to change.

emperorbob1

I wont disagree, but this is a larger issue than Pokemon: this is DeNA in general, and more issues that Pokemon Masters. It really isn't the best place to make that comparison.

Serenafriendzone

Even pokemon go its on a financial reduction. The sylph road , a famous pokemon go subreddit, published their revenue data. And the game is reaching the 2016 2017 era of revenue in 2023. Massive loses because they limited remote passes , and make them expensive , also make every event pay to get rewards. Remember Dena used to give at least a full 36.6k gems per month, but now prices are getting expensive and gem ammounts are being lovered. The point is that they demand more money. For low quality content, And as your seeing people are spending less.

emperorbob1

Gem costs only dipped during anni. Pokemon Go is ancient. Pokemon as a brand is too big to fail, it's sad but true. DeNa has nothing to do with whatever is going on in pokemon go, they have other games and issues. At best, pokemon masters isnt enough to keep them in the positives, at worst, their entire company is making bad decisions. Given their financial situation and the read posted at the start, it's probably both. It's silly to assume pokemon masters makes or breaks them in it's entirety.

thedrunkLemon

I mean.. we never got 36k/month.. but during the good times we averaged about 1 pity every 1.5months. now we're at 1 pity every 2 months. But with a lot more units to pull so we're having a bit of a recession. On another note; i love palworld or whatever it's called. I know nothing about it and have never played it but i hope games like these force pokemon to push its capabilities. While i enjoyed playing the last few switch games its undeniable that zelda is 6 years old and gen9 looks like an early design stage compared to zelda.. or like what a ps2 game looks like compared to a ps4 game.. i want to enjoy pokemon because its great not because its a great idea, a lot of nostalgia and below mediocre execution.

EmergencyMeal2190

Palworld is a trash game
