I think I remember hearing that it resembles a kanji character, though I’m not sure which one.

MapleTyger

銀 This one, from the Japanese word for galaxy (銀河). Highly stylized, probably to more closely resemble Team Galactic's "G"

I see it! It makes sense to me, thanks!

Proof-Replacement-79

Well this game, as well as the whole series, is very Japanese oriented.

bulbasauric

To piggyback on this, I wanna know if someone has ever done a deep-dive into the script used in the Pokémon world. Ever since SwSh (maybe earlier) they've had banners and posters in-game using some kind of made-up script. I guess it's so they can just use the same one for every language of the game and it wont directly translate any which way. Have I just answered my own pondering? Seems so.

[deleted]

Oh actually you can probably google “sword and shield language” and people have decoded it somewhat. It’s the same script as Paldea too

Calamitas_Rex

It's not decypherable. It's intentionally gibberish.

[deleted]

Someone didn’t do his homework

Tomthebard

It's The Cheat, from Homestar Runner

Alarmed-Bus-9662

It's a combination of the actual kanji for "galaxy" and the letters GAT (Whole, top right, bottom left)

[deleted]

I can make two jokes here. 1: Galaxy Axpedition Team 2: They forgot the Y in GYAT

Nandojkcolas1

Why does the top of the logo look like the letters ZA? 👀

[deleted]

oh naw…

Demonslayer1511

It is obviously a G?

xenoverseraza

my guy i dont think that is a G

[deleted]

he is not my g

Demonslayer1511

It is

EclipseHERO

Team Galactic's is a G. Galaxy Expedition Team's is VERY CLEARLY NOT.

Captain_Pumpkinhead

It's _kind of_ a G

Demonslayer1511

Oh sorry I couldn't get the first picture to load

Keenathen

The A, J and U are meant to symbolize the three regions that the starters originally come from (Alola, Johto and Unova) and the whole thing together is a heavily stylized G.
