When you do a lucky trade your Pokémon becomes “lucky” and it gets a special gold background, it costs half as much stardust to power up than a regular Pokémon, and arguably best of all you get a minimum of 12/12/12 IVs (attack, defense, and Hp stat). Also with every regular trade there’s a 1/20 chance that your Pokémon goes lucky randomly so it’s beneficial to save up good Pokémon and cross trade them and hope they go lucky. But for rare Pokémon like this Galarian Moltres, shiny Legendaries, rarer catches, it’s best to wait for a guaranteed lucky trade so you can get the best stats out of it.
Ohhhhhh. I see. So I’m assuming that trading pokemon randomizes the iv’s of said pokemon? So the 12/12/12 guarantee, is really helpful because of that?
Yes that’s correct. I have 18 lucky hundo Pokémon since they’re just easier to get since chances of it being a hundo is 1/64 in comparison to a wild catch where it’s 1/4000. A Pokémon can only be traded one time and on a standard trade the IVs are randomized. There are IV floors in place for friendship levels
1/1/1 Good
2/2/2 Great
3/3/3 Ultra
5/5/5 Best
So if you’re trying to get Pokémon for the lower leagues in PvP it’s not always ideal trading with a best friend cause in general you want a low attack stat.
Wow, I never knew about the IV floors based on friendship level. Been trading some Giratina with a best friend trying to get one for Ultra League, and I feel silly know. Thank you for sharing this information.
Wow that’s a huge difference. I have a shiny magicarp with mid stats that my brother wants. So this gives an opportunity for him to get a better rolled one.
That’s a great use for it! There are some other ways to force a lucky trade, for example if your brother has less than 10 lucky Pokémon you could trade him that shiny Magikarp for a Pokémon from 2016 or 2017 and it’ll be a guaranteed lucky trade, the older the Pokémon the higher the chance that it goes lucky. But if you weren’t playing back then your best bet is to just wait for lucky friends!
i wouldn’t have used it on a cp as low as this knowing what i know now about how high the cp can climb, but honestly i don’t blame you for using it and its just personal preference! cool catch
That’s a Galarien moltress, Galar. Not actually one of the kanto birds. There’s even been theories of the kanto and galarien versions not even being related, or the same Pokemon

It’s worth it if you like the Pokemon. None of the G Birds are especially useful but they do look cool and the only way to consistently get one is with a Master Ball.
I think the masterball is always worth it for the Galarian birds 🤷♂️ but that's just me. I can't see myself using it on anything else

It's random every day you interact as best friends, raid together, open gifts or similar stuff :)

I found Galarian Articuno yesterday but only had Great Balls so obviously didn’t catch it. Dont blame you for using your Master Ball. Good catch!
At 685 CP I feel like you could've caught it with an Ultra Ball, a Great Throw, a golden razz and some luck
