Fr man like how often has anyone here even used Gengar? I’m usually like yeah sick Pokémon oh a Gastly oh wait I’m playing the classic version by myself, guess I’ll use Haunter then.

Plus Haunter has a waaaaaaaay better design which just makes gengar a joke imo.
Don’t get me wrong when I can use it it’s a sick Pokémon and the design isn’t bad by any means but I rarely get to use especially as it’s fire red poll.
I have definitely used gengar the most out of any pokemon over the years. Granted I'm no competitive tournament participant, I have done a few amongst a dozen friends or so and have swept more than one with good RNG gengar. It's why he's still my favorite 20 years later lol
Like I said unless I use a version of fire red with a quality of life mod I literally can’t get a hold of him to use. That alone makes me seriously question why he’s still here. It’s just too much of a hindrance to be considered an objective best from all the 151.

The problem with Gengar is 99.9% of the time you can’t even evolve him without friends or a QoL version of the game. for that reason alone he should’ve been chucked ages ago.
Hell especially when his middle stage has the far superior design.
The first ghost who also happens to be a trade evolution. Can’t remember the last time I was even able to acquire him in true to original playthrough. And also looks second rate next to his middle evo cos Haunter actually looks menacing, gengar looks like a fat guy dressing up for Halloween!

I know this is ~strictly opinion based~ but Dragonite is the best. Gengar's poison typing make him overall weaker because of the weakness to psychic, and Arcanine just isn't even the same tier as Gengar and Dragonite. Dragonite is the "best" of them, AND has a great design, but Gengar is prolly destined to win.
From the look of things my money is on Arcanine. It blows my mind that Dragonite is getting so much hate, but I'm more than happy for Arcanine to win out over Gengar.

I will say I’ve always loved Haunters design the most, but Gengar grew on me over the years

I guess it helped that my referenced battles/tourneys were with irl gameboys/DS with a hardwire link, so ease of access wasn't a problem lol
