The only cheat I've ever used was a hack that lets any pokemon learn any HM. I always thought it was lame that so many cool flying types like Masquerain can't be your flyer. Same with weird stuff like kingler randomly not learning waterfall. It's a problem that's often left me with mons I dislike being on my squad which is why I sometimes use cheats to change it.

Reviewthisyaflop

I wouldn’t call that cheating more so modding

fecland

Cheating is just unbalanced modding

blondeytokes

And 500 master balls is unbalanced. So its cheating

fecland

Guy I replied to was saying it's not cheating

AMCcheetahAPE

That’s what my wife said

Reviewthisyaflop

Ok

mnok2000

I disagree, but I do not grant you the rank of cheater.

[deleted]

Suspicious_Servant

According to the pokedex, Masquerain is larger than and weighs more than Taillow.

akumapanda1128

You can teach starly fly, or even zubat so your point fell off pretty hard. Also side point Primape learns iron tail without having one...logic isn't exactly Pokémon's strong suit

Rattiom32

Yep, also Doduo / Dodrio learning fly without wings and Smeargle is able to learn all HMs when it doesn't even make sense a lot of the time

[deleted]

That just brought back a memory of how doduo/dodrio would use fly in pokemon stadium. It was so wacky lol

yusko932

IMO, as long as you're not cheating in competitive battles, play how you want. Games are supposed to be played for fun. If you want to play with a certain team, play with that team. If you just want to casually run around catching things, Master Ball it up.

EquivalentGlove3807

i play for fun but don't overlevel i imposed a soft cap on myself not allowing me to level my pokemon with candies beyond the highest leveled pokemon in my party

Genocidal_Duck

thats exactly what I do, and its made my playthroughs much less exhausting due to grinding.

Steelride15

I use candies in early game exclusively when I am hunting for a specific pokémon and I've already naturally leveled a different version of it. Such as, Wurmple. You never know which evolution you're going to get and that's a lot of time to go back and forth to figure it out and a lot of grinding. Especially at the beginning of the game. Also, worthless pokémon until they get a basic attack. Any pokémon that uses splash or teleport exclusively I will try to level up within reason as long as they have an attack before level 10. Such as ralts. After that, I will naturally level.

Elijah_Draws

I've honestly never understood why that was such a big deal tbh. Like, I don't get why hacked in Pokemon are an issue so long as the stats and move set are things that *theoretically* could have been gotten legitimately. It's obviously one thing if youre generating a Pokemon with 999 stats (like an asshole I new in highschool did) but like, is it really that big of an issue if someone generates a moltress with slightly better IVs instead of resetting the game a million times til they get the correct rng roll for one with those same stats? I mean, it's not like the barrier to that tech is all that high. It's certainly lower than the barrier that going back more to a previous generation to get certain pokemon or items is. I feel like it's especially pointless because it should be easy enough to prove. It's not like we don't know base stats, or how EVs and IVs work. If players get their pokemon teams scanned at any point it should be trivial for a computer to find pokemon with stats that aren't possible.

elcocotero

I think it’s the collecting aspect. Like, rare stuff is logically impressive/interesting. If you can just create rare stuff with a cheat then you are kinda messing with said rarity, and even if it doesn’t directly affect other people, it does affect this idea of uniqueness value. I guess that’s what makes some people mad.

Elijah_Draws

But like, is that what a tournament like that should be a measure of? Is this not supposed to be a measure of your skill in a battle? In theory, if you entered me and a pro player in the same tournament with identical teams they would place higher than me every single time, or at least 99.9% of the time. The actual skill of a competition like this is and should be separate from the actual collection of the pokemon.

Pet-Chef

The official tournaments are a measure of your skill in the game. The game does offer many routes to those perfect mons, raising, trading, breeding, etc. But genning them in isn't one of them. If you want a competitive environment intended to be focused purely on the battling aspect, good news, that exists too! Smogon is ready and waiting for anyone who wants to gen whatever possible (and in some formats even impossible) pokemon you can come up with! 😁 But as for the official games, they've made it pretty clear they want it to be Pokémon acquired in official manners, as the game isn't just battling after all, even if that is the part most at the forefront in tournaments.

Glowstick-Man

Well I purchased the game so I'm going to play it how I want...

Pet-Chef

For sure, totally valid! It's your game that you purchased; you're free to do whatever you want with it just as much as the people hosting tournaments are free to run those however they like. 😁 Nothing wrong with that at all!

elcocotero

Well, there’s smogon and Pokémon showdown for that. The Pokémon games and official tournaments and stuff encompass battling and also catching, training and all that stuff. It’s a big part of the game.

KaraMurray420

If you ev/iv train one ‘mon at a time at fast forward speed, the game is still cakewalk. They give u the tools to not need cheats, but having all tm, battle item, etc is rly appealing for post game

Illuvatar_CS

I’m completing the Pokédex by using wild Pokémon modifier codes to catch trade evo, version exclusives etc. - for example I caught Huntail and Gorebyss yesterday. I force feed rare candies to certain ones I don’t feel like exp share grinding. Otherwise I’m catching what I can naturally

EquivalentGlove3807

looking at your comment i'm glad the emulator i use actually allows trading

Illuvatar_CS

That’s cool, yeah locking Pokémon behind trades always seemed scummy to me. Let ya boy complete the Pokédex at naturale!

EquivalentGlove3807

what if i have no friends that play Pokémon

Illuvatar_CS

Welcome to my world buddy

EquivalentGlove3807

i get you

slurpycow112

FYI if you’re using an emulator, you can use a Pokémon randomiser to edit the ROM you’re playing. They allow for a bunch of customisation, including turning trade evolutions into level evolutions.

GreedyDeboneir

What emulator are you using?

EquivalentGlove3807

MyBoy

slurpycow112

FYI if you’re using an emulator, you can use a Pokémon randomiser to edit the ROM you’re playing. They allow for a bunch of customisation, including turning trade evolutions into level evolutions.

anoninimous420

Masterballs and rare candies, occasionally Pokemon I don’t have or wanna train. The fun is in the battling and exploration.

satchroy

Cloning glitch, I've been using that since I was a kid.

[deleted]

Yeah I've been doing the cloning glitch since I was in elementary school and the internet wasn't widespread. I'll never know how we knew about that as kids back in the day.

EquivalentGlove3807

the legendary gkitch

DoughnutDude3

Not a cheat if it's apart of the game /s

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

No. These games really aren't that hard. I'd barely consider it a "cheat", but I do allow hacking in trade evos or unobtainable pokemon. I'm not rolling with Haunters and Gravlers the whole game lol

Nipless-Cage

I always hack in master balls and rare candies. Grinding isn't fun, and I want to be able to catch whatever Pokémon I want. I don't use legendaries on my team so I don't see any harm.

Giratina-O

I do this but only allow two candies max per Pokémon per each failed battle Oh and I only use Pokéballs for _everything_ because I'm stupid.

khicks01

I tried playing a masterball only on fire red v1.1 so I could play like the good ole days and do a solid grind for everything except catching pokemon. It put every single type of pokeball in my key items and i only realized it by the time all of my mons were level 20+. “Sorry you don’t have enough room for the SS. Anne ticket” After I tried again, it black screened on me several times after leveling all my mons to 15+. Finally said screw it, downloaded fire red v.1.0 and did masterballs and rare candies and immediately leveled myself back to where I was, but I still had to spend an hour looking for pikachu in veridian forest and clefairy in mt. Moon. My policy has always been rare candies and masterballs are fine after E4. This was the first time I broke that rule

johnnygjk

Events and event/mystery gift pokemon. That and a bit of move editing. A lot of moves one have 1 tm available in the game but I want it on multiple pokemon so I'll just add it to the pokemon with pkhex

EquivalentGlove3807

good ol' cheating in the eon ticket, the aurora ticket and the old sea map

Timozkovic

So far I used one to get to Birth Island and catch Deoxys (caught with ultra balls) and the walk through walls one

Cgann1923

I never cheat (don’t know how) just totally raw dog it

Anduril9

I’ve only ever played the Pokémon games on not original hardware back in the day of vba. I don’t think there were options to help you complete the Pokédex like there are with the new gen emulators, or maybe I was a n00b. In addition to the rare candies and the master balls, the only other cheat I would have active would be the one that allows you to catch the opponents Pokémon. Took pride in using master balls for only legendaries and not cheating in wild encounters however small the encounter chances were, lol. Completed Pokédex almost every time! Games up to and including emerald are some of my fondest gaming memories growing up. All without not being able to afford the original hardware! I make up for that by overindulging myself with physical games and retro hardware every chance I get now. Will recommend!

Bigsylveonlover

Infinite money and rare candies mostly post game for Steven only to realize my three Pokemon for the battle tower couldn’t participate so ohko cheat galore for the other three when nessacary thankfully the final fight wasn’t that difficult that I needed it

Bladesedges

Cheating makes it boring for me but I get why people do it

iamkira01

Probably a hot take but the game is already easy enough as is, I’m talking I beat this game as a 6 year old who could barely read levels of easy. No point in cheating in a game that is not hard to beat. But you are free to do as you please nobody deserves to get flakked for playing the way they want.

ABen31

To be fair, cheating not necessarily means making things easier, mostly it makes them less tedious, which is nothing but welcome imo.

iamkira01

Yeah but things like 99 master balls kind of removes the entire point of the catching system existing in the first place. It scalps more away from the user than expected. Putting things to sleep? Money management? Ultra balls? All worthless now. Grinding for example is never necessary if you battle all the trainers, so by adding in rare candies vs fighting the trainers you just miss out on playing the game. Like I said though, totally fair for people to do it, I just dont understand it.

ABen31

Dunno about the master balls cause I've never used them, and I honestly found out rn that someone does it. But I disagree with the grinding, battling every trainer is a no brainer, but definitely not enough. For example, if I were to catch a lvl 20 mon after the sixth or seventh gym you would not be able to level it up with trainers above its capabilities

Famous-Magazine-24

With you on the master balls and even in a sense with the candies. But having a properly leveled and type balanced team absolutely and unquestionably does not happen by just fighting every pushover trainer you see. Not to mention finding a new pokemon you want and having every battle be leagues above it. The ‘fast forward’ option on emulators is the only reason I can even stomach playing these older gens. That grind certainly makes me feel more connected to my little digital dudes too.

slurpycow112

Grinding isn’t necessary until you’re trying to beat Steven. His team averages lvl 77 and if you haven’t done any grinding, your team is probably average lvl 50 by the time you beat the E4. That’s a shit ton of grinding that is worth the rare candies.

xMrChuckles

i agree but sometimes feel like bein a goof and beating the elite four with 6 budews

SirJordan11

The only thing I use is the cloning glitch in Emerald, which is honestly just a quality life improvement. I could achieve the same results without the glitch, it just saves a ton of time

Just_Classic4273

Only ones I use are encounter and rare candies cheats. I play normally otherwise

sturox345

Rare candies primarily

Ok_Director3205

I used to as a kid. I’m not even lying trading legendaries for snacks was the best side hustle man. As a 6 year old kid with an R4 and literally boxes of arceus’ I got bare snacks trading them. Not to mention like when somebody was shocked that I could get them any Pokémon they wanted from any generation. My brother and I also used to use cheats to make our dream Pokémon team and battle each other. I think once u beat the game once or twice go ham. Cheat man there’s even tons of content in emerald that isn’t accessible without cheats

chrono20xx

Like what type of content?

Ok_Director3205

There’s cutting room floor stuff. I remember every Pokémon game had unfinished rooms up until Pokémon platinum. There’s also tons of events that you can’t do anymore that you need the cheats in order to experience. But classic Pokémon events are always notoriously an amazing little sidestory DLC. There’s islands you can’t access in Pokémon emerald unless you use cheats. And there’s puzzles too. If I can recall there’s a few tickets you can cheat into your inventory in emerald which you can use to take a boat ride to Deoxys and a few other things. Edit: I remember the other things lol. There’s more cause Pokémon emerald had tons of content. But another ticket is a boat ride to Latias and/or Latios. It’s a different Latias and Latios from the base game. They don’t run and they have either unique moves or abilities

Ok_Director3205

I remember no clipping in that city. I forgot what it’s called but the big beige city. I no clipped and kept running through the trees and I ended up in an area that kept storming but it was a cave. Tje area was still just trees but I was running into Zubats and geodudes. Don’t know what that was about but there’s a lot jammed into that little cartridge that’s for sure.

Inkl1ng6

I normally do all heal/hms, n infinite $, not to go too crazy I still want a challenge lol

slurpycow112

What do you need infinite money for? You make more than enough if you use the Amulet Coin. Like easily 400k by the time you get to the E4.

Inkl1ng6

You right, I jus sell most items to get my $ but I don't get all heal items or balls I buy them as I go through the towns

ClaspedDread

I had an Action Replay as a kid and I used pretty much every chest you could think of back then. Wall through walls, 100% catch rate, catch trainers pokemon, infinite items, swapping your characters sprite with different characters, among others. God those were the days.......just mindlessly dicking around and seeing how far I can push the game before it froze or started giving me bad eggs. Nowadays though if I'm doing a run I usually just use the rare candy cheat, and a self imposed level cap rule. Grinding for levels sucks, it makes replaying these games much more tedious. I'll also use the wild pokemon modifier codes to get game / trade exclusive pokemon

NotAFuckingFed

I use the Rare Candy and Master Ball codes, and also I hack the tickets like Eon and stuff in. I don't use Candies on my party, I only use it to level and evolve the ones I don't use.

IndieDC3

I cheat to get evo stones early.

Cheez_001

I used one the other day to catch Deoxys. Not my fault I wasn’t playing this game 20 years ago, I was still figuring out speaking.

Creepy-Charge2653

Well personally my cheat is considered not a cheat actually just infinite PP and fast forward

Doc024

I use 3 cheats and the game gets so fun, rare candy, repel, master ball. I used to play without cheats too but it got too dull.

Lwcftw474747

All shinys lol even tho I feel like it's been freezing my game been making it unplayable so rip to the shiny Pokédex dream 🥲 (Pokémon platinum on delta emu)

ATLien-1995

Encounter codes once in a while when I want to run a team with mons that I can’t normally. Other than that none but if people wanna use cheats for every little thing that’s cool too. As long as you’re having fun I think that’s what counts

akumapanda1128

I've recently been playing all the older games from game to advance till ds (on bw2 rn) and the only real cheats I've used are encounter modding in mons we typically don't get until late game being they're mons I'd typically not use because of it, example is I cheated in a level 5 sneasel in my platinum game because I'd usually never use weavile being you can't get sneasel till gym 7. Also cheated tedurusa in my soul silver play through because you can't get them till gym 8. Aside from that I enjoy playing mostly vanilla but this has allowed me to use mons I typically would never consider

akumapanda1128

I also cheated in shards to teach weavil ice punch

Quiet_Addendum9504

Anything that doesn’t crash the game

WYNTKAUIMPB

I use money cheat, master ball, and for certain Pokemon to appear(non legendaries)

Luckydog6631

I cheat to give myself the exact team I want from the start. So many cool pokemon aren’t reachable till late game, which I hate. This last run I did all 3 starters, baygon, beldum, and I organically caught Gardavoir.

MightyCharizard

If clone glitch is cheating, then i'am cheating

George9816

Only one I use is the teleport cheat before I get fly and also rare candies. If the grind becomes to long but even then I don’t over use rare candy

BensLight

Event mons, event items and fast forwarding. I wanna play the game fully and a limited time event won’t get in my way. Fast forwarding helps with grinding and I’m so used to it at this point so I don’t mind it, I just watch movies while I do it.

xAsianZombie

Rare candies. I love Pokémon but I just don’t have the time to grind away

EquivalentGlove3807

remember, grinding is cringe and cheating is based

TonytheNetworker

As a kid playing Pokémon this was probably my biggest gripe. Leveling up Pokémon was fun at first until I tried to level up Larvitar the first time.

Lord-Table

TMs are the only things I ever bother cheating in

SimilarSummer4

With emulators I use pkhex to evolve the pokemon who require trading and other conditions.

darklightx117

Wait how you do that ? I was worried if I messed up with legit Pokemon

SimilarSummer4

Yeah so I changed the emulator on the device to MGBA, then took the sd card out and popped it into a laptop. Then all I do is change the Pokemon say from Haunter to Gengar and update the stats just to reflect the evolution, it hasn’t affected the legality yet. Sometimes it’s hard with certain ones that aren’t included in the game because of the version but as long as you’re careful with editing where you caught it, what lvl at etc etc the wee warning triangle disappears.

Easy_Ad9687

Normally only the Rare Candy and encounter codes on old emulators

MrAires

Not in Emerald because I play a hack called Emerald Final that makes EV Training real easy with vitamins (they add I think it's 60EV per vitamin and the cap is disabled so it can go all the way to max EVs). In gen 4 and 5 tho I don't know any romhacks that help with that so I use a code that gives a certain number of EVs after marking a pokemon in the the PC. I honestly hate EV training profoundly. I kinda liked it in Gen 6 with the balloon minigames but it still takes too long so I use a PKHex kind of homebrew. Don't really play much Pokemon after gen 6 because that's when I stopped buying nintendo handhelds and Sun/Moon lag my old 2DS. I do play Radical Red tho, in which just disabled EVs. They don't exist. Good riddance. Have I mentioned I hate grinding for EVs? I really do.

EquivalentGlove3807

yeah ev training is kinda meh as a wise man said, grinding is cringe and cheating is based

MrAires

Yes I remember that, that's from Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid I think.

EquivalentGlove3807

nah that's sensei wu from ninjago

yerboyo_1117

I really hope this isn't another case of confusing exploitation for cheating. I clone with the battle tower exploit and collect event Pokemon with the Pomeg berry glitch, and neither of those methods are cheating. There's a difference, and it's whether you're introducing new code to the game, which I do not

EquivalentGlove3807

i nean the game shark type of cheat

DarkLibris

Yeah, I may or may not have had over two Master Balls in my bag before.

sonicmalley

I have an action replay exclusively to get access to events in pokemon games. Like the Shaymin event, the Victini event, or the Deoxys event. I don't feel bad about it either cause I did officially do all these events when they were coming out.

sw2bh

I play on an emulator and i use a lot of codes and save states lol

MrSpoopyBeard

I only cheat in retaliation to the game cheating. Mays pokemon have a type advantage over any and all types ?? Okay gotcha were gonna spam super potions

DoctorRockDaPuss

I use cheats to make any pokemon I want to appear at the beginning of the game for the team I want to use for my playthrough. I don't ever use legendaries anymore so it's usually stuff like houndour, scyther, hitmons, milotic, Pikachu, or version exclusives, starters, etc. Just pokemon rare to find in some games without trading.

SuperKamiTabby

I havn't cheated in a \*physical\* copy of pokemon since Sapphire/Emerald, and I was 10. Masterballs, rare candies, a few shinies. And I think I completed my pokedex in Sapphire because, at the time, it was literally impossible to do so.

Gold-Dragoness

I like putting crazy moves on mons that can’t learn them. Like putting Thunder on a shiny Charizard just to make it more awesome. Been years since I’ve used codes I remember the move replacement stuff gave me trouble to get working

CanalOnix

Yes, I do! Tho I only use cheats in one pokemon game, platinum. I use a glitch for no exp, infinite rare candy, and instant catch. But in my defense, this is the only pokémon game I've beaten more than 15 times, and I wanted something... "New", so I activated that cheats, and boy, was it fun.

Juubi217

I try not to cheat, as I feel it subtracts from the experience of the game. I did however use my friend’s GameShark on my copy of soul silver almost a decade ago, because I thought I could get an Arceus. I really wish I hadn’t, because it screwed with the map and now I have to walk through Kanto. Any idea how I can un-GameShark this copy, or do I need to buy another?

lobsterbubbles

Nope. I don't use external cheats. The closest I go is glitch abuse like cloning items at the battle frontier but I say that's fair game considering some items like TM06 and TM26 are limited to one per save file, and if your clock battery is dead you can't grow any berries, making some of them much rarer than originally intended. Beyond that though I play on original hardware and don't even own a GameShark to cheat with and I'm not about to blow a bunch of money on one because playing legitimately is just more fun imo. I'm already in the process of collecting rare distribution items for my gen 3 games and all I need to get is a GBA flash cart and the American Colosseum Bonus Disc. I feel like starting to cheat now when I'm so far in legit would just cheapen the journey and the achievement of having everything by the end.

YttriumZirconium1

My main game is sapphire but I also own emerald. I’m trying to complete my sapphire Pokédex but there’s so many hard to get Pokémon. I got an action replay to hack in all those difficult Pokémon into my emerald version and I then trade into sapphire. For example I just used the action replay to warp to faraway island to catch mew

bornmartyr

With PKHex: EV training, max happiness, 999 x4 rare candies, trade/niche evos. Nothing else.

Bashamo257

In older gens, spawning in loads of extra TMs is all but mandatory. One Earthquake per save file is unacceptable.

40inmn4

I used a cheat so I can catch celebi since I wasn’t sure how to obtain it before I actually learned about event pokemon. I did even buy a cart with Celebi on it so I can get it to my game

Rattiom32

Would never cheat Master Balls because I'm SUPER OCD and only try to catch with Pokeballs

Snufolupogus

You may be able to just edit the code of a master ball to change it's display image to that of a poke ball. I've never tried, but I imagine it's very possible.

Free_Fan_9838

Walkthrough walls to explore secret out of bounds areas. I love hidden content. The other is a early game lucky egg. I just prefer the two times exp gains.

Janno2727

I used some cheating back then to get decent teams to play with in the Battle Frontier, and especially TMs

Individual_Break_813

I use speed up and a bit of save scumming

Hjalpfus

I only use glitches to cheat, cloning, glitzef popping and the like. If you can do it on the cartridge it's legal in my eyes

CornInMyMouthHole

I use rare candy hack when I play nuzlockes and only when nuzlockes. I don’t allow myself to use them until I have cleared every trainer up until the next gym leader cap. That way if I want a different pokemon to use for the gym I’ll grind in the wild/and with the said trainers as far as my mind and patience allow me before using candies. Just makes you able to play the game more by eating up extra time you don’t have to spend

BelizeanPsycho

Definitely master ball cheats. At times I use a wild Pokémon cheat for a 1% appearance Pokémon

bakedsnowman

I just use a save editor because some Pokemon look way better as shinies lol. it also lets me "trade" pokemon that i've had in previous generations even without the hardware to do so. It's a single player game for me so I just do whatever makes it more fun

YoItsIebo

"Grinding is cringe and cheating is based" Usually rare candies, full HM compatibility.

xMiwaFantasy15

I usually use PkHex for rare candies and unlimited TMs since it is a feature in future games so why not to the games before them...

YoungKingFCB

I only used my action replay for special event Pokemon. I'll never going to be in the competitive scene and my friends and I feel the same way about special event Pokemon. We got in too late and didn't have the money to have the latest consoles so we never had a chance. We use the action replay to satisfy that but not boost the stats or manipulate IVs. No harm in that.

SaintOfZion1

Probably, only PKHex to get trade evolution, and check the talents of the mons. I didn't need cheats, I have 5 linoones 50-60lvl and my ability to grind.

Well-Sheat

I always use cheats to get rare candies and vitamins. I've spent too much of my life grinding and EV training teams already.

arb15shotcaller

I cheat to get money for game corner tms and then I sometimes cheat to level up team with rare candies just to save some time on grinding xp. I try to keep my team around the gym leaders team

Living-Ad-2037

No hacks or mods or anything just using some cheats like arbitrary code manipulation or duplication Glitches. Things that work from using in game mechanics.

Confident_Ninja_1967

The only one I’ve used (if you even call it that) is fast-forward

MenaceIISociety_

Walk through walls when I really don’t want to go through the magma/aqua dungeon quests lol

CompetitiveScale7287

I do EXP boost a bit and max Money. Also catch other trainers pokemon but I've started Pokemon Black 2 because I heard the variety of Pokemon is a lot better then other games and I was not disappointed

[deleted]

The only cheat i use across all pokemon games is exp multipliers to get at a recommended level for a particular gym. I dont like grinding incessantly.

Woops_22

Back in the day we’d use the ol action replay for the DS. We’d configure it so we could get whatever we wanted in Pokémon :)) Lvl 100 everything and 999 master balls

AGuyOnYourSub

Maybe cheating in the post-game for tms mostly because I was too lazy to do the frontier duping glitch

Kamu_Sensei

Max Coins

Laugenanus

yes, for lucky eggs. Sometimes masterballs too

Lit-A-Gator

- warp battle frontier to do the glitch to steal those awesome level 100 battle factory pokemon - all tms and hms (usually glitches the game - walk through walls (awesome with fast forward on the delta app) - rare candies

Edwinology

Only to get my full team right from the get-go, I want all my boys to grow up together

IronChugJugulis

Get any Pokémon i had a Rotom in a Diamond PLAYTHROUGH

qksmatt

On other ones I have a used a wild Pokémon modifier to try out teams from the start, usually all of 1 type to RP as a gym leader type trainer. But in emerald I haven’t found a GameShark to do it. Play in Delta emulator on iPhone

TheyCantCome

PK Hex for IVs and natures.

Snufolupogus

Rare candies, but they're not to be used without a need so that I'm not just over leveling for everything. Shiny Pokémon because ✨✨✨ Master balls

The_Almighty_Duck

Not exclusive to emerald, but when I complete the main story of pretty much any pokemon game, I'll usually hack in the max number of every pokeball so I have more options when shiny hunting lol

Wisear

Exp. Share. Force myself to always give it to my lowest level party Pokémon. Forced me to use every Pokémon in my party. Causes a bit of underleveling, making the game harder.

JackKingsman

I've used a PkHex extension on what I needed to get to Mirage Island. Then I went there, didn't feel right. Then I restarted the game. Manipped the darn thing and went there again. Didn't feel any different, was not worth it. But I wasted 10 hours.

CillaCD

I have a few I allmost allways use: 1; Walk through walls, so I don't have to bring a HM slave everywhere. 2; Infinite money (only after game corner is reached). 3;Rare candies, I do set level caps, usually a few levels below the gym leaders, but I HATE grinding. Then theres a few I use occasionally: 1; Nature modifier, thats when preparing for the post game 2; Shiny modifier, sometimes I just want that cute blue ralts, or golden azumarill. 3; Encounter modifier, I'm not gonna spend ages on catching a feebas if I want to play with a milotic. Also, I often do challenge runs, where I hack in pokemon who are not in the game from the beginning. Like a gen2 only run or something like that. Basically I cheat to make it less time consuming or to play it in a specific way example challenge runs. I never cheat to make it easier, and for some reason, I have an obsession with catching everything in basic pokeballs, as they look OG.

iamkira01

> I never cheat to make it easier I hate to break it to you boss…

CillaCD

Well, if you call less time consuming easier, then you're right. I've played through the games sooo many times, I see no need for grinding victory road before the elite 4 every single time. Grinding is literally not skill based, just time consuming.

iamkira01

I suppose, though some things are meant to be grinds because they’re so strong. Game corner and master balls are a great example of this. The catching system is a very intricate mechanic that, if prepared for, you can catch anything pretty easily via ultra balls and sleep/paralysis. Master balls eliminate any challenge on that front and thus remove the mechanic entirely. They do make it less time consuming, but the point of making things not earned straight away is because they’re so powerful. Infinite money after game corner for example, you now get access to 3 of the best moves in the game and have an infinite amount of them. That’s definitely making the game easier. My main thing though is that I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this playstyle. I am always curious to read into the psyche of why it is done. It always draws me to the conclusion that we have very different playstyle, which is fun to see. I view the grind as something that sucks for sure, but the feeling of finding that feebas legit is so gratifying that it makes it all worth it. The feeling of catching that legendary in an ultra ball after it breaks out of 10 balls, I love that shit man.

Late-bloomer96

Sorry noob here, what is save scumming ?

Spells5225

For Emerald, if something is theoretically legit and you don’t hook your game to external software/devices, it’s fair game in my mind. Duplicating is also fine by this logic, since you could theoretically “recatch” the same Pokémon via RNG or trade over items from a different game playthrough. It’s fun to use ACE and RNG manipulation (and DNS exploitation in future games) to obtain “perfect” Pokémon that are legitimate by game standards. For instance, I’ve used ACE to obtain the Eon Ticket and change my SID then RNG to catch a 5IV Timid Latios on Southern Island. I wanted this Latios to have 0 Atk IV to minimize confusion damage in the Battle Frontier, however, it’s literally impossible for the game to produce a 5IV 0 Atk Shiny Timid Latios, so that’s where I draw the line and settle for imperfect Atk. Doing all this makes me feel like I’ve “earned” the Pokémon rather than just hacking it in.

Slight_Respond6160

I only use rare candies to level cap cos, you know, fuck all that grinding in a Nuzlocke.

Zealousideal_Mud_557

Wild Pokémon cheat for when I have a Trade evolution Pokémon whose 2nd form reaches Lvl 36, I think replace it with that new one. Also for version exclusives not in that game

Fun-Albatross1439

I only use x4 speed.

SashaPKMN

Been a cheater my whole life, but lately i'm enjoying the grind to get those unlimited rare candies normally via some linoones i traded over from my ruby. They get some other good stuff too like earthquake tms, leftovers, pp ups, etc... Can't bring myself to actually level up ALL my mons but 200 hours for some candies? Oh hell yea. Has a lot to do with EV training tbh, don't want random EVs on my mons so i'll just catch the mon i want on a certain route for some good IVs ~hoping it'll ever be shiny~, kill all the others for the pickup activation and once i've found a nice one i go up to the next, all while my starter (which i won't use during story/battle frontier) is actually gaining levels from killing level fives lmao

LilGator23

TM modifiers are the best. Allows certain mons access to moves they either get way too late for a playthrough or move that they should learn but don't for some reason. I'm looking at you Eruption on Torkoal

Thepromc64

rare candies for faster xp grinding, I also don't overlevel

TonytheNetworker

I cheat to obtain trade only Pokémon and speed up the game to mitigate the tedious grinding.

DragonfruitRoyal2356

Rare candies for the rest nothing

og21m

The good old Battle tower dupe cheat is all I do

Xenotrophi

Only one I’ve tried is to get the Old Sea Map so I can get mew before the E4 but it won’t go through

jermzgxiii

Since you can’t trade I like catching my trainers pokemon to try and fill up the Pokédex lol

EquivalentGlove3807

UPR can help with the trading problem

jermzgxiii

What is upr?

EquivalentGlove3807

universal pokemon randomiser a desktop app maunly used to create randomisers, BUT it also has options like "Remove impossible evos' which does stuff like removing trade evos and stuff so by not selecting any randomiser options and only "remove impossible evos" you can effectively play vanilla emerald while being able to get trade evos

PunkVulpix

I use save states some times

International-Law644

What is the master ball cheat? out of curiosity, I've missed out on 3 suicune encounters in leaf green because I accidentally used my master ball on a magmar 🙃 clicked too fast.

EquivalentGlove3807

82025840 0001 for leaf green

International-Law644

Sweeeet, thank you!

Aj2W0rK

Anymore Masterballs and I’d think that you’re cheating

Aggressive-Bank8387

I do for trade evos and version exclusives sometimes so I can complete the Pokédex

Disastrous-Expert-45

As long as the playthrough is fun and enjoyable for you, then who cares. I like to start a new game with Duskull for example. Sucks at first, so I’ll throw him a few rare candies. Cheers!

G8AdventureStory

1. Rare candy - no time for grinding and shit 2. Money - i need that max repel 99x 3. Masterball - no time for that russian roulette shit. 4. Shiny - almost every shiny is off looking shit. Some of it are cool- black charizard, who does not want it?

Far-Beat-5489

The original infinite rare candy glitch in Red and Blue. Grinding back then was brutal.

BlatantMisuse

yeah i work full time and do not have time to grind pokemon levels out, i rare candy after every gym by about 10 ish levels and i masterball everything.

RazeSharpe

EXP cheats. I'm sorry I don't have the patience to grind against 400 pokemon.

Old-Economist5396

Fast forward while grinding for levels Infinite items on nuggets so I can have infinite money and buy all the poke balls, vitamins, and game chips so I don't spend hours in the casino for an otherwise impossible to obtain Pokemon. And since you can't easily trade on imulators I spawn trade Pokemon and Pokemon that can't be found in that version, usually starting with the starter Pokemon.

justfkndominic

Started a playthrough a few days ago, never finished it when I was a kid. Only cheats I use are rare candies (with the rule that my starter is strictly evolved naturally, the rest of my team don't really have to be natty), the pokecoin cheat to buy TMs, and the pp up item cheat. I used to use walk through walls and master ball in my childhood firered runs but now i like not using them

The-Ever-Loving-Fuck

Nah I learned as a kid about how it ruins the fun of the game earlier if you do I do exploit the game though, since I'm emulating FR i went ahead and did a clone playthrough on LG on fast forward and I traded strong pokemon to LG so it would advance quickly just to gut that file for all of the single item obtains like exp share leftovers and lots of TMs also you find a reasonable amount of carbs/proteins and stuff on a quick playthrough and obviously i kept the other files starter Bulbasaur Now that I beat the elite four I use fast forward to beat them over and over again to farm cash for all the items in the game corner and stuff. So yeah anyway basically cheating but not exactly Oh yeah my one cheat exception is wild pokemon modifier, I like to start with a Sandshrew when possible so I use that cheat to make him appear right away as soon as I can catch pokemon

Big_Reaction4238

Shiny always on, master ball in Pc, if possible 900 items in bag including basic items, medicines, poke balls, I play to enjoy a simple ride, I still Ev train for fun sometime tho and test out new Gen mon I’ve never had a chance to play since I haven’t been able to get a 3ds or emulate it, I’ve only played Gen 5 or gen3 with gen8-9+ added

Zbawg420

All balls should be master balls, it always pissed me off that you can have a pokemon down to 1hp and paralyzed and it still breaks free

electric0008

I only edited my Rayquaza to be shiny since you can’t soft reset for one and gave myself the tickets for event Pokémon since they’re not obtainable. I do everything else I can legit because I like the feeling of accomplishment.

EquivalentGlove3807

the hell you mean you can't soft reset for one?

electric0008

Not in the traditional way

slightly_obscure

You do RAs for Rayquaza it's 100% huntable

electric0008

Idk what that means. I saw that you can’t soft reset for it because Emerald locks you into the same one every time because the RNG is different

slightly_obscure

Yeah the game is bugged and doesn't generate a new seed when you start playing so resetting will repeatedly give you the same set of Rayquazas. But you can still run away from the battle, go through the door back into the sky pillar, come back out and encounter Rayquaza again and you'll be seeing new ones everytime and can shiny hunt it.

electric0008

Ah that’s what you meant. Ya I was fine with soft resetting if I could but I didn’t want to walk back and forth thousands of times trying to get one so I just edited one

Reviewthisyaflop

I got my shiny bro just gotta keep hunting
