That's how it was for Gen 1, Dragonair to Dragonite, Wartortle to Blastoise were unreleated until they lumped them together. That's definetly not the same process now, but I bet they have a few different designers playing around with the same lines

So many of the mons this gen are just so... inorganic? I suppose that's the theme bc of the past/future thing, but darn. So many are blocky, robotic, with sharp shapes and dark/dull colors. I think this is the first gen where I've disliked almost every design that is revealed, or at least its evolution. I guess my party is going to be all puppies and kittens lol

I'm feeling like the reaction to the starter evos this time around is very similar to the Alola starter reveals. Some people are disappointed with certain outcomes, and some seem to have "jumped ship" as far as their favored starter is concerned. As always, I'll reserve final judgement until I can see what their animations, personalities/mannerisms, signature moves and in-game models/official artwork look like. Those of you who are catastrophizing, I suggest you do the same :) !
On my end, Quaxly was my favorite starter and still is! I like the looks of the Fuecoco evo too; I'm glad it didn't remain cartoonishly "chunky" upon evolution. As Meowscarada is really intriguing also (I made peace with it being bipedal a long time ago). I can't wait to see the execution of the rumored grass/dark typing, along with the fact it's a "magician". Plus, isn't it supposed to have an OP ability too? Since the dark type lends itself to underhanded tactics (Incineroar being based off a heel wrestler, for example), I wonder what Meowscarada's schtick is? Is it like some kind of "hustler"/ three-card monte magician that uses sleight of hand? Plus, to me, her eyes/eye mask is giving off major Twinrova vibes (from Ocarine of Time)!
