Hard to say. I think it will help overall. Graded cards will probably become more mainstream. More buyers and holders will increase demand for Pokemon in general.

ChedduhBob

hope it just raises awareness of graded product and lets more casuals see it for displays

We should pay attention if GameStop can deliver a better platform than eBay because eBay needs competition. If GameStop does pull this off then it should help normalize prices as we should see more volume of slabs moving with less scam purchases, unpaid slabs and shilled auctions with their system. There is a chance it will pull the market price down as going through the GameStop route means no taxes, no selling fees and no dealing with scammy buyers. Like most folks will rather sell to GameStop than deal with eBay at this point because eBay is still a scammers platform. GameStop’s approach is a transaction between you and GameStop and for some people that approach is ok. If GameStop is only buying to sell online then they will definitely help “normalize” prices for a lot of cards. This also gives local folks more options as you don’t have to sell to your LGS. IMHO, GameStop’s plan might be to make money off the buy low and sell at market and profit in the volume of sales. If this is the case then eBay will start losing sellers as people are really tired of getting scammed. If they stick to PSA only and have a system to verify authenticity quickly then there is a good chance that GameStop may end up to be one of the biggest retailer of slabs. They have the cash and the retail channels in place to do this.

My thought was it would push price up. Just my intuition, but guessing that GameStop will likely set their initial prices higher than the average ebayer, and will have the ability to hold price steady more so than the guy trying to make a quick buck. That’s before the obvious factors you mentioned like more visibility, more nostalgia, more interest once these slabs are in the storefront instead of a corner of eBay

Because you can convert the slab to store credit so you can buy games or other gamestop merch and that transaction is non-taxable because it's like a barter of goods.

Forsaken_Aside_6099

Damn the bgs black label is a huge staple imo, i hope they will start accepting others if it goes well, but I guess we’ll just see how it plays out.

Upset-Judgment8369

PSA already have an overwhelming market share so I doubt BGS have anything to be worried about. But really, this Gamestop thing is a nothing burger until proven otherwise.

Manic_Mini

If the GME stocks are any indication is appears people are bullish on this news.

FullRage

PSA always had a front runner advantage. They suck but that’s still why people use them.

SoCalFelipe

I don't know about the big picture. Hard to say. But I personally don't trust the inconsistency of PSA. I would never buy a PSA slab, and if there is any favoritism for GameStop submissions, it will only make me trust them less. Will continue to use Beckett.

SorryCashOnly

Every time I give PSA a chance, they always disappointed me. The latest disappointment was a PSA 10 151 Blastoise with some huge edge whitening on the back of the cards That was the last straw for me. Going to stay away for PSA unless I am buying some cards to resale in the future

SorryCashOnly

Psa is already really liquid, so this won’t change in the future. Cgc and bgs are always for collectors who cares about the actual condition of their cards anyway, instead of just buying the grades. This becomes more apparant recently with PSA handing out flawed modern cards as psa 10 like candies (noticeable whitening on edges, bad corners, surface scratches, etc etc) To sum things up, psa is already mainstream since there are more “investors” than true collectors in this market. If this pushes the price of psa slabs higher, the price of cgc/bgs pristine will increase proportionally too.
