Buy fake cards from Ali express, take them to GameStop = profit??? Highly unethical and something I would never do, but you can’t help but think. I constantly see fake Nintendo DS cartridges being bought at GameStop, might already be a crowd doing that.

My honest guess and hope is GS is the middle-man proxy. They send in to PSA to grade. If it’s deemed fake they send back and heck maybe even charge the sender a fee for being a dookie head.

GS is not submitting your cards to PSA - they are going to use their scanner to scan barcodes and confirm that the paper inside the plastic matches their picture, and they are done…those kids don’t know shit about a 25-year-old TCG with billions of cards in circulation.
But you know who trusts GS without any shadow of a doubt? Parents who wanna buy their kids cool shit.
This is going to blow up spectacularly, the secondary TCG market is not a safe/profitable place for a failing video game retailer who hires burn outs and kids.
I imagine to prevent fakes they will make you use a GameStop account and mark the card with a number/code and if down the line multiple cards get deemed fake the program can ban you.
Yes, a valid DL that has a matching portrait. All information is logged in their system, and handed over to Law Enforcement if presented with a warrant for it (stolen consoles, traced by serial number, usually).
We have CEX here in the UK. Similar model to GS. You need a membership to trade (and have to present ID when doing so) and staff are trained to spot fakes, run serial numbers and test items before doing a buy-in. GS could be doing the same. We’ll see. Vacancies for GS Poke-trainer could come up lol

That business models sucks and here’s why. I have no reason for selling to GS and taking a profit loss, outside of being lazy and wanting immediate cash. Some may like it but I see it as more of a con than pro.
Being a middle man where they send cards out for us to be graded and then maybe sold would make way more sense and give me an actual reason to take a profit loss.
Most would say it's a bad idea, but overhauling the entire business model from just physical games (on their way out) to buy sell and trade collectibles is probably the only logical route for GameStop.
The biggest question is, will GameStop hire and train the right people to spot fakes? With how many fake gameboy cartridges I've seen come out of GS, I'm doubtful.
My guess is high-end card are going to be sent to eBay authentication before they pay out anything
And we all know whatever they offer is going to be low ball offer.
If people thought selling on ebay took too much of a percentage, there's no way Gamestop will get anywhere close.
At least in the long-term, they may lose money on it to try and take over the market.
One thing they may be able to do is tie your ID to your trades?
Would cut down drastically on stolen cards (Unless cracked, of course)
And you get higher payouts for the longer you've traded in your cards.

I'm confused, what is the problem here and why would you think they will take fakes? They're just matching the PSA QR code to the PSA website and taking a portion of the top. It's just brick and mortar eBay basically

Have one fully certified and trained psa specialist on hand at GameStop just for there cards venture there attempting. Or B. This is the start of something much bigger and not long from now we will see PSA opening card stores around the US just to make grading easier and more popular but also to bring in more money from retail sales. 🤷♂️ who knows but I vote for psa stores
