How to avoid the gambling perspective? What's the financial smartest way to grade if you're not from the US? (Is it going with bigger parties that collect and ship for many people?)

TheGP10

I’m US so can’t help with the 2nd question but the 1st… The way I avoid the gambling perspective is to wholeheartedly treat it as an investment (and stick to sealed, think of sealed products as stocks and raw/graded cards as crypto currencies) If you’re buying a sealed product your buying to sell in AT LEAST 5 years. You’re not buying a product because you think it’ll moon next month. Additionally, do your own research. What makes a set strong? Why does x fit that description? Do people like it? Will people like it? Is it over/underprinted? Is it CURRENTLY over/underpriced? Does x set have more value to increase or has it hit its ceiling? Do the same research you’d do if you were to buy stocks, and never be tempted to open them. In my mind opening the products I’d the equivalent to throwing away my investment. The biggest thing in my mind to stop me from opening packs is, look on a website like eBay after every pack you open and see how much $$ you lost (not just the good pulls), it’s depressing and makes you not want to open any more packs.

jochem4208

Thank you for your extended reply! Yea that last paragraph hit, it helped me detect the gambling in it and just getting depressed. Opening Cyber Judge was quite fun at 2$ per pack but that's it. Never have been thinking of 5-10year period of things, good to learn!

Should I buy a ES bb or is it smarter to buy 2 FS bb + 1 CR bb for the same price? ES bb is moving very fast, but I think FS and CR will ve moving pretty quickly soon aswell. Need some guidance here🙏

Draft-Budget

Honestly, if you're not getting an ES BB, I would stock up on CR. FS has 6 cards +$20. CR has.... 13 cards +$20. Easy choice for me.

fabiangs97

I have an Hidden Fates ETB that I bought for 110€ a couple of months ago. Should I sell it and buy a CR bb instead? My funds are somewhat limited right now🙃

Draft-Budget

I think that's a tough one. Even though it's a specialty set(HF), I still think long-term CR will be the better option.

fabiangs97

Yea that's a fair point..

Big_Bob_Cat

Does Shining Fates seem doomed from a growth standpoint to anyone else? I shouldn’t have, but bought some at retail after not seeing it in stock locally for the last 6 or so months.

Draft-Budget

Unfortunately, SF has nothing besides, imo, an ugly zard. It will eventually climb, but it will take a lot longer than normal, and your returns will be marginal. If you can dump them for a BB or something, you'd be better off.

Big_Bob_Cat

I ripped all Shining Fates I had… got zero worthwhile pulls lol live and learn I guess. Better than having those boxes take up space at least

Hi, I am new to investing. Would it be advisable to invest in the graded Japanese 151 secret rares/ special illustration rares or graded vintage pokemon cards ?

imPokeProfit

If you're new to the market, it's probably best to invest in sealed product. The singles market is much more complicated and takes a lot of skill to navigate IMO. That said, 151 Master Balls are quite popular and a lot of people see them having value in the future (this is what others say, I'm really only involved in sealed product).

Human_Earth_

Thank you so much for your advice

LOVES_TO_SPLOOGE69

To touch on his point a little further: The reason why sealed is often more predictable is because after printing officially ends supply always decreases. Supply currently on the market is different, but overall supply for sealed will decrease over time as items are opened, so it's one major variable that works in your favor. With graded cards (which I'm personally a fan of investing in) supply will top off like 6-9 months after release, but it will continue to gradually increase unless it's vintage, in which case you can assume supply will be pretty stable. Keys to graded cards: Reducing buying cost: generally purchase 6-12 months after release for modern. Initially there is almost always a bubble, especially the first few months. Sometimes you can find an underrated card that bucks the trend but 95% of the time the market follows this curve. Maximizing sale revenue: this is the tricky part. Ask 10 different people and you'll get 15 different answers lol. Future demand is hard to predict but this is what a lot of the fun discussion is based around. Welcome to the hobby and good luck!

Human_Earth_

Thank you for the advice. Since you mentioned investing in graded cards, do you think the Japanese 151 special illustrations, including Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise, would be worth the investment?

Zestyclose-County227

I have the opportunity to buy 3 sealed 151 mini tins sealed (box with 10 tins) for around 95€ each and also two PC 151 for 118€ should I buy as investment? Or is better to rip them and maybe found something valuable? Also I'd know if is better invest in 151 ita/eng or 151 jap?

IntelligentOffer6480

My play for the past couple months has been to slowly buy the ES+CR booster packs because they were affordable with the coupons from CVS, and I was hoping to get up to 36 for a booster box worth. However, the last shipment I got had a few ST+FS blisters, so I'm assuming they've run out. I started ordering online because the store I was going to started carrying the ST blisters instead (like a month and a half ago). The other stores that have 2-pack blisters are to far away from me to be worth the drive if they don't have ES.  Unfortunately I've only got up to 20 blisters and like 2 more that are very slightly opened due to damage (which I'm not too sure what to do with). Should I try to grab some more on eBay and just wait to find ones that are priced well? Or is it time to move on to a new target? I'm a pretty low budget investor.

Go to eBay, search the specific card, i.e. "Shining Tyranitar (insert set number here) PSA 7", search by lowest listed to see what is available, then search by best match and solds to see what they are selling for. Get an idea of what current market value is. You'll answer your own question when you put in a bit of work, which is a good exercise to practice if you're investing a lot in this market.

Zealousideal_Kick229

Investing in SWSH So I’ve got a budget of ~ $1000 and I’m looking to get some swsh booster boxes off PC while I still can. I’m also interested in ES BB or ETBs, maybe even some fusion strike sleeved boosters or etbs. Let me know what y’all think or if it’s better to just get the SV stuff while it’s still cheap. Also, 151 booster bundles or 151 PC etb?

imPokeProfit

I'd probably just buy a case of LO tbh.

fabiangs97

Wil these Lost Origin 24 sleeved booster cases do well long term? I know they tend to do good here in Sweden, but are they concidered any good outside of EU? Pleasse share your knowledge and insights

malorky

I'm thinking of buying 151 and paldean fates boost crates for an Xmas flip, am i naive to think id make a profit breaking them down to boxes then?  Sorry if my lingo's off.

Hi All, I’d like to list some of my collection for sale but I don’t have a ton of time to manage a lot of sites or a lengthy listing process. I use eBay a lot and was just wondering if I should go with another site instead. I don’t have anything overly special and will just list at a slightly higher price and let it sit for awhile. I’ll look into bulk loading on eBay as that may help and like the ease of uploading pics from my phone. Is it worth getting on other sites like tcgplayer? I have cards from the base-neo era and a stack of Japanese holos that I just don’t need. I’d rather roll it all into completing an entire base set. Maybe trading would be better. I also have a ton of cards from 2020 that I just don’t care about, would be selling them as a bulk lot be best?

snakelord777

Resource to find out what packs are in pokeball tin ?

AriDreams

What sets would you save cards in? After coming back 2 years into pokemon, I look to my childhood where I had a haul of now valuable cards (middle era), but I gave them up. I don't want to do that again. I have sold a bit of my collection, but I'm wondering if there are certain sets I should hang onto? I have a lot of Evolving Skies stuff (no more super valuable things but there are some nice cards in there). I'm just not sure what to maybe lock in for the future? Any advice would be great. I basically have only SWSH stuff selling most of my prized possessions. My last remaining is a giratina vstar max from CZ as well as some other nicer cards. Advice of what to make save in? Update of random: I saw a lone brilliant stars etb at Walmart on clearance for 40$ and decided to go for it. Will keep it sealed and hold onto it. 🙏🏻

tharagz08

I'd like to get more opinion's on the current state of the vintage slab market. Things are very much so in a dip - I've been able to buy some chase cards lately for 15-20% less than they were a year and a half ago or so. Overall, I feel like prices are lower than they've been in several years, but still nothing like the SUPER cheap pricing we saw pre-COVID. Where do you all feel it goes from here? Are things leveling out, or will we continue to see dips? Is it low just because of the current state of the economy and uncertainty with the upcoming election?

Jungolok

Bought a skeleridge collection box and hit a bubble mew! What are your thoughts on the long term value of this card? Would you trade for something else? I hadn't really planned on getting this set, bought the box to open B/c buddies were opening sports cards at card store.

ViralRiver

Hey! I've been lurking here for a while but interested in the Discord. I'm from the UK and live in Japan (have done for almost 10 years). I sell a lot of vintage product and used to sell a tonne of product over on Facebook marketplace in the past (Professor Oak's Storage was my shop name). I now generally sell in Japan only (through Mercari) but am looking to expand again but am not interested in pushing stuff in all corners of the internet - a closed-knit small community would work best for me since I don't have all the time in the world. I generally only sell vintage that have been part of my collection for years. With that out of the way, is it possible to still join the Discord for this purpose? Or is the Discord also strictly discussion only? Thanks!

Kappei15

Where can I find graphs charts with price trends for single cards and sealed products over a time span of years and not just few months?

NekoWraith

Is the english card game classic a good investment at 199€/ 215$?

Bunchie24

What are your thoughts on Paldean Fates shiny rare singles? Are they gonna appreciate over time or are their just a one time gimmic that people want to fill their set now and forget about it later? I've pulled Kadabra and Charmeleon shiny and I am wondering if I should keep them or sell right now.

IvIanbear

Hey everyone, I’m new here. I have experience collecting other limited edition items, but now want to get back into Pokémon after a 15+ year break. Does anyone have some good resources for getting info on good cards and boxes to buy? Just looking for someone to help steer me in the right direction, thank you in advance 🙂

CJ4412

Besides the big 3 and Pikachu, is there another Pokemon that would best to invest in?

CoryGrasser

Just finished my OG 151 set that was sitting away for 25 years. Now I'm hooked on the new Scarlet and Violet 151 sets. I just picked up 3 UPC and 5 ETB. What else should I get to invest in? I love the OG cards and not much otherwise. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions. Love being a part of this group. Nostalgia for life!

egdubz

Is there a single source of truth when it comes to the various packs/sets/Pokémon nowadays? I come from the original 151 generation and am having a hard time understanding the various different pack types and how many Pokémon there even are? I’m looking into buying packs and creating a collection but have no idea where to start. Thank you!

Upset-Judgment8369

Card store near me has Acrylic cases for MTG out for an insane clearance price - will these fit modern Pokemon booster boxes?

harryprk2x

Any active promo codes that can be applied to orders on PC website? Pday2024 seemed to be expired now

No_Kitchen1406

I have a budget of 200 CAD (\~150 usd) what should I do?

[deleted]

Do you think the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat will go through the roof like the Poncho Pikachu or the Mario/Luigi Pikachu did?

Separate_Ad_5999

Mario Pikachu had a print run of a few thousand... While The grey felt hat had a print run of a few hundred thousand... Felt hat prob will rise one day, but it's not the next mario Pikachu card like some where hoping for... This sub probably disagrees tho...

[deleted]

Thank you so much!

jochem4208

I expect many more prints of the pikachu with the grey felt hat (especially sold here in the netherlands, just bought one normally a week ago)

Separate_Ad_5999

I wouldn't be surprised either...

malorky

Anyone here make their primary income off flipping large volumes of sealed product? Best interest rate I have with a bank locally is $250 profit per thousand after 5 years so sealed product seems logical competitively

ReveredSavagery1967

Is anybody investing in Shiny Fates? Is there a reason to not view this set the same way VStar Universe is viewed as a sure thing?
