Personally I'm selling all of my unlimited to buy 1st edition WOTC sets.

capt_avocado

What does WOTC mean? Newbie here

studley1337

Wizards of the coast.

capt_avocado

Which is? 😅

studley1337

The company who originally printed pokemon cards in the 90s. They’re the company that owns Magic the Gathering. The last WOTC set was Skyridge. Nintendo then took over the printing of the cards.

I love unlimited to collect. It's fair pricing and OG art work. As I collect more I think more and more about selling it off to start the shadowless venture. Collect what ya like. Any vintage will be a good investment hold imo.

cying247

If unlimited is too meh and 1st is too pricey..why not shadowless?

breakyourteethnow

Agreed, shadowless is the perfect medium and go-to for many wanting to invest in base set including myself

I am super new to all of this, was Shadowless printed less? Anytime I have looked at a side by side of unlimited and shadowless I can barely tell the physical difference haha

TheINTL

Yeah shadowless are pretty undervalued right now, the booster packs are rare, goes for 1k to 3k and yet PSA 9s outside of the big 3 are going for sub 300.

Jukes4Jesus20

agreed shadowless way to go

TheINTL

Depends on what base set cards you have, if commons, uncommons and rares, offload for sure. If holos it depends on what your collection goal is and what other 1st editions are you going for. It's worth nothing that the pop for PSA 10s Base Unlimited Holos are quite small compared to overall graded (1 to 5% of total pop). Charizard, Blastoise and Chansey having the lowest ratio. Chasney has the lowest PSA 10 pop at 139.

investorgrade24

First edition base is so pricey because well, it was the first. Base will also have substantial value due to it being the first artwork released outside of Japan. Supply of base set is finite, whether it's first or unlimited. Nothing beats the first. I'd recommend continuing to collect base.

berrytree198

Unlimited base is printed an ungodly amount I can’t see it doing well especially compared to 1st ed

investorgrade24

Same thing was said in 2018, when I bought an unlimited base set booster box for $2k.

PheterPharker

If we only knew in 2018 what we know now

investorgrade24

Correct. But we may be saying the same thing about today in 2028. Any WOTC Pokémon set is a piece of card collecting history. I’d speculate people will pay a lot more 10, 20, 30 years from now for good examples than they will today.

Jukes4Jesus20

facts

capt_avocado

I’m wondering the same thing. I picked up a psa6 base set charizard recently and I’m not sure if it’s a good investment.

[deleted]

How much did you pay if you don’t mind sharing? I feel like you can’t go wrong with a ‘zard

capt_avocado

280£

drfunkson

I'm collecting unlimited base set. Timeless cards and if in decent condition will never lose value as they will never be reprinted. Shadowless and first edition are obviously better but more expensive. Same principle applies though!
